Ragas Paraj and Basant apparently have the same notes, but different characters. They are often performed together
Sanjeev Ramabhadran 11:51:25 AM
Hi DJ Dave - that last track is indeed in Darbari Kanada, though can't for the life of me figure out how it got slotted in as a thumri (I am familiar with the album). It's just a regular khayal bandish (popularized by Ustad Amir Khan), its lyrical content notwithstanding. Nice albeit brief rendition by Pt. Ajay Pohankar.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:52:54 AM
Hi, Sanjeev! Yes, there are some dubious decisions made by unfamiliar techs at the record companies.
Sanjeev Ramabhadran 11:53:51 AM
Paraj and Basant have some very heavy overlap, so putting them together and giving the hybrid a distinct identity is a tall challenge, the kind that Baba Allaudin Khan was known for.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:57:20 AM
thanks for your insights
