See, the trick is to inject the listener with an immediate dose of Zeuhl, or perhaps some Blackgaze if you're feeling particularly malicious >:)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 7:07:10 AM

Just think of them as seasonably cool jams. 🍁🍂
TAndy 7:23:01 AM

..and it's over.
TAndy 7:25:20 AM
Two minutes, didn't count.
TAndy 7:25:45 AM
In fact, two minutes is the typical length of a lot of modern "edm" songs
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 7:26:46 AM
True. It's you're charging by the song, why make 20-minute ones, when you make ten 2-minute ones.
TAndy 7:27:38 AM
hahaha
TAndy 7:28:13 AM
Better save some money and recycle the same synth, kickdrum, and basic chords from the last three releases.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 7:28:55 AM
Now you're thinking. Never lose sight of the profit.
TAndy 7:29:44 AM
You see, that has to be done because you only have a small handful of people producing tracks for all of the big EDM live acts. That's why they sound the same. I wish I was joking, but hey.
TAndy 7:29:59 AM
This song making me feel nostalgic

Selecta Jerry 9:31:28 AM
Maybe he is listening ?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:31:39 AM

Christine 9:31:51 AM
😱
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:31:56 AM
Dave, your turntable needs oil
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:32:06 AM
HA ha, Stevie p!
TAndy 9:32:28 AM
Hey Selecta!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:32:42 AM
Good morning, Selecta Jerry!
TAndy 9:32:53 AM
Hey Dave I have a request for a future show.
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:33:14 AM
@Selecta Jerry: Best wish Bruce a Big Up, just in case.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:33:36 AM
TAndy, lemme hear it
Brian D 9:33:57 AM
Värttinä and Gamarna in one show! Very cool
TAndy 9:33:59 AM
Next year your show is the day before April Fool's, assuming you'll still be on the same Friday morning slot. Please do a Yacht Rock special set for that, if you may.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:34:40 AM
Hmmm. 🤔 I think I can do an Abnormal yacht rock set.
TAndy 9:34:40 AM
I'll pay you 5 backseat fruit gummies for each song
TAndy 9:34:48 AM
omg!!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:35:26 AM
The biggest challenge will be remembering this request in late March.
Selecta Jerry 9:36:09 AM
Hate the term yacht rock “dumb”
TAndy 9:36:17 AM
I'm sure if you do, Mike will bestow his presence in the chat 🤣
Strawberry Alarm Mok 9:36:47 AM
if we are doing reqs...Keef Hartley Band - Theme Song / Enroute / Theme Song Reprise from Overdog album😃
Selecta Jerry 9:37:38 AM
Just want to say In parting Dave the obscure is the true Boss 🔥
TAndy 9:37:50 AM
Truth!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:38:10 AM
🧯 hardly
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:38:28 AM
@Mok, I am not familiar but will check it out.
Brian D 9:38:39 AM
Yeah Jerry. Not a valid term that Yacht. No hate. Just did not see the need to celebrate 70s 80s am radio lightness as if it is a big retro deal. I understand things like Disco being a craze that keeps popping up each decade since.
Brian D 9:39:35 AM
Music in parents/ aunts/ uncles cars of the 70s. I heard it. Did not see a need to revisit really
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:39:42 AM
yacht rock... hehe
TAndy 9:40:09 AM
>:)
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:40:12 AM
Every summer, sirius xm has a yacht rock channel.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:40:26 AM
I might pay an abnormal revisit.
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:40:29 AM
I think the entire playlist is about 20 songs, mostly
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:40:47 AM
pop hits from the 70s
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:42:10 AM
"... we'll go dancing after dark... and reminiscing..."
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:42:13 AM
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yacht_rock. It's in Wikipedia, so it must be a thing.
TAndy 9:42:46 AM
Let's go further back in time and listen to what a honky-tonk in 1926 would have most likely been playing.
Brian D 9:43:13 AM
I went to a "beach" club in Highlands Jerz (bay or inlet whatever that body is... not Ocean) And they had that Sirius Yacht thing playing way loud. The announcer w the pre recorded bits had a strange affect. Trying too hard at comedy. Sounded like a cough syrup experiment gone wrong
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:43:48 AM
Sounds about right...
TAndy 9:43:59 AM
😇
Strawberry Alarm Mok 9:45:30 AM
lots of Hall/Oates, Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross
DSM 9:45:43 AM
I thought the Yacht Rock term came from the Funny or Die comedy series spoofing it, which if you haven't seen is really funny
DSM 9:47:30 AM
maybe a new genre, Yacht in Opposition will be born of this chat
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:48:26 AM
@DSM - good one
Christine 9:49:34 AM
Interesting, DSM.
Brian D 9:49:44 AM
Read a funny story about early Led Zep tour in the south when Page n Plant met a local musician to buy a bass guitar off of him. They had to commute to him via a small boat for some reason. Allegedly the local young musician was Christopher Cross. Story was on the LZ official site in the show by show listings where people post comments entered by supposed former band mate of Chris i think. Doesn't matter if true or accurate. Funny story picturing it.
Brian D 9:50:27 AM
Not a yacht btw ha
Christine 9:50:47 AM
Hey, this is toe. I heard toe a couple days ago another fine WPRB show.
ѕтєνιє ρ 9:51:20 AM
Brian, that announcer is somebody doing a shoddy impression of Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III
Bud Burroughs 9:52:04 AM
@Christine I remember that. Which show was it?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:52:33 AM
@Christina - zenfoyel's show
Brian D 9:52:35 AM
That's it Stevie! Ouch . Small doses it would be annoying enough. But they had that playing for hours...
Christine 9:53:40 AM
Just yesterday? Wow. That was a good show.
gboss 9:53:55 AM
I thought Yacht Rock was a clever descriptor when it was poking some fun. But the unironic embrace of the term by its fans has taken any fun out of it.
gboss 9:54:30 AM
So, I think abnormal YR show would be quite appropriate
Brian D 9:54:38 AM
Mi guitarra quiere matar..
Brian D 9:55:06 AM
My guitar wants to burn your dad..... rock records... and the yacht ones too
Brian D 9:55:30 AM
