Bečvou Warm Winters Ltd. 2022
Bečva is a river located in the Eastern part of Czech Republic. In September 2020, several chemical leaks into the river caused the poisoning and subsequent death of 40 tons of wildlife in the waterway – an unprecedented catastrophe. Growing up in Přerov, Bečva was an ever-present part of Tomáš Niesner’s youth and this environmental disaster affected him deeply. In an effort to understand the river better and inspired by Werner Herzog’s ‘Of Walking in Ice’, Niesner set out on a journey from the spring of Bečva to its confluence with river Morava, a journey of over 100km. This album is inspired by that journey.

Agree, lizbot.
Lizbot (host) 5:04:46 PM
@Esoterica - I woke up feeling kinda lousy today so I sought out albums that are like a salve for my mind and this is one
Lizbot (host) 5:05:49 PM
oh man, I have to invest in some curtains in my home studio because the the sun is blinding me right now!
DSM 5:11:03 PM
Hey Lizbot! This Colleen song is a nice reset at the end of the day.
Lizbot (host) 5:11:15 PM
HI DSM!
Lizbot (host) 5:11:42 PM
@DSM - Yeah, I need something chill and calming and reassuring today cuz I woke up sick!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:12 PM
@DSM - Or at least feeling out of sorts and like I'm about to come down with something...
Lizbot (host) 5:13:42 PM
I just got back from a great NYC trip on Tuesday, sadly had to miss DEVO on Wednesday night, much to my dismay, being they've been one of my all-time favorites since I was a kid, but I both managed to sprain my foot and wear myself out!
DSM 5:13:46 PM
Ah, sorry to hear that. I felt like I was really done for a couple of nights ago, right before bed I felt really hot and cold and achey, did sweat sleep and assumed I was gonna wake up a mess, but it went away..... mysterious and I hope yours passes quickly as well!
DSM 5:15:02 PM
that is a series of unfortunate events!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:38 PM
@DSM - I'm glad your malady passed quickly! I am hoping for the same. Had crummy fitful sleep on Tuesday night, so was really tired all day yesterday with a lot to get done, then woke up today feeling like utter crud, but have a busy weekend planned, so hopefully I can rally or this just straight-up passes soon
Lizbot (host) 5:20:11 PM
@DSM - Not to complain, I had a great NYC visit other than the foot injury at the end of the trip! Saw a very funny revival of Little Shop of Horrors off Broadway at Westside Theatre, finally visited that Little Island Park floating island off Pier 55 that was completed last year, got to The Whitney Biennial, got to The Strand, had some good bahn mi, etc
Lizbot (host) 5:20:22 PM
OH, AND, I MET/TALKED TO LOREN MICHAELS!
DSM 5:21:28 PM
Thanks. Yeah having to do anything when sick is the worst. But that does sound like an action packed lead up! How'd you meet Loren?! Was he nice? lol
Lizbot (host) 5:25:33 PM
@DSM - NBC Upfronts dinner - basically a giant cast party for the network with execs and writers as well, they hold every year that Sunday in May. It's when the network pitches to advertisers their planned line-up for next season in order to renegotiate commercial deals, and then they have a big flashy dinner afterwards at a restaurant in Columbus Circle. I already knew about it because I am in NYC that same weekend every year since it's a long weekend for me
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:28:57 PM
Hey gang!
Lizbot (host) 5:29:43 PM
@DSM - I like to see who comes out at the end cuz I stay near there anyway, and this time I saw Miley Cyrus (eh), Maritska Hargitay (I don't care about Law & Order, so whatever,) and some other TV ppl like Nicole Byer, but then Loren came out and he just stood 5 feet from me on the sidewalk talking to some writers for 20+ min, after which point I said "Hi Loren, thank you for SNL and Kids In the Hall and all that you do!" and he was actually really friendly and smiled and thanked me...
Lizbot (host) 5:30:03 PM
...and said goodnight before getting in the car waiting for him. HIGHLIGHT of the trip1
Lizbot (host) 5:30:19 PM
Hi Addie! Hi Mr. Slithers!

Lizbot (host) 5:32:15 PM

Ambrose Hughes 5:34:02 PM
Hello Lizbot! Must be a bug going round, I came down with same symptoms, ugh ...hopefully we get over it soon, my ex GF sent me a vid clip of the Devo concert last night AND it was Mark Mothersbaugh's birthday too!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:49 PM
Hey Ambrose!
Tyler B 5:37:09 PM
Ahh Nahid Akhtar! Her stuff is great, I first heard her on wprb years ago
Ambrose Hughes 5:37:21 PM
This is very nice!
esoterica! 5:37:36 PM
Feel better Liz!
esoterica! 5:37:48 PM
Agreed, Bo!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:38 PM
@Ambrose - I was just watching earlier today a video Dana K took of Mark dancing with orange pom-poms at the DEVO show last night. Former WPRB DJ Abbie from Mars was there too, and a buncha other friends and acquaintances. Wish I could've been there! Had to come back from NYC by Tuesday at the latest, so even if I hadn't mess up my foot or gotten sick, I wouldn't have been able to rush back up again the next day - too much to catch up on!
Ambrose Hughes 5:38:59 PM
@Esoterica, Hi! Thanks😊
Lizbot (host) 5:39:29 PM
@Tyler - I love Nahid Akhtar's voice!

Hi Rob! I can picture that."Call me....Ride the King's Highway..." LOL
Lizbot (host) 5:47:38 PM
@Rob - I have a habit of wiping out the Chipmunks on 16 Speed when the first truly hot days of the season roll around, maybe cuz they make me sluggish!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:29 PM
@Rob - I was in NYC most of this past week - from last Friday til Tuesday - but the catbird was VERY active and vocal right before I left for the trip and I'm sure is patrolling my yard as I type

Lizbot (host) 5:53:45 PM
@Rob - She's not wrong, though! I just never made the connection!
Christine 🌛 5:53:56 PM
I recently heard some concert dates that might be of interest to doubleplusgooders: MATMOS at PhilaMOCA on 8/12, and the Linda Lindas opening for Japanese Breakfast at the Foundry (upstairs at the Fillmore) on 7/21.

Lizbot (host) 5:58:35 PM
@Christine - My daughter is VERY excited for the Linda Lindas with Japanese Breakfast show! She's a fan of both, but especially The Linda Lindas! Have you ever seen the Japanese movie "Linda Linda Linda" from the mid-2000s? If not, I highly recommend it! About teen girls who form a band for a high school talent show and cover The Blue Hearts' "Linda Linda," for which The Linda Lindas are named!

@Christine - oh MAN! I am GLAD you mentioned the Linda Lindas show because they made me realize I scheduled conflicting events! I have tickets for that AND for Maria Bamford the same night!! I gotta see if I can switch Bamford to a different night. She's doing a few nights at Helium.
Christine 🌛 6:22:16 PM
@Lizbot, I hope you can change your plans!
Christine 🌛 6:24:17 PM
I just saw the Linda Lindas Summer Tour announcement the other day. They're playing 8 cities in July. I have a lot of admiration for these fierce young women!
Bud Burroughs 6:26:07 PM
I think he pronounced it van-JELL-is.
Bud Burroughs 6:26:16 PM
Or maybe van-GELL-is
Lizbot (host) 6:26:48 PM
@Christine - They're awesome! I love the songs about their various cats! Especially "Monica"! Nice touch: lil meow at the end!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:57 PM
@Bud - Good point
Lizbot (host) 6:28:02 PM
@Bud - I'll be playing something else from him way later in the program, probably the last track, and I'll try to remember that then!
Ossy Hyouka 6:29:17 PM
Hello liz and all
Lizbot (host) 6:29:32 PM
@Christine - I was glad Hattie got to see a lot of her favorites recently: David Byrne, Girl In Red, Angelique Kidjo in Princeton last week, and Linda Lindas in July, but bummed she'll be at camp during Mitski's Philly show. She adores Mitski.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:35 PM
Hello Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 6:29:47 PM
@Ossy - there was NES talk earlier in the chat !
Bud Burroughs 6:29:55 PM
He created some excellent music long before he became the king of soundtracks. I think Heaven and Hell is my favorite.
Lizbot (host) 6:31:04 PM
@Bud - True! of course, since my dad was a track & field and cross-country coach and lifelong runner, he had us watch Chariots of Fire A LOT
Bud Burroughs 6:32:04 PM
Ha, I can imagine!
Ossy Hyouka 6:32:10 PM
Ooo, nice Liz and heard a few songs that feel like NES or something similar!
Christine 🌛 6:32:21 PM
Hey Ossy!
Ambrose Hughes 6:33:02 PM
@Lizbot, that's where I remember Vangelis from, was on Top Of The Pops a LOT! R.I.P.
Lizbot (host) 6:34:34 PM
@Ossy - George mentioned playing Code Name: Viper, cuz I played Rosetta Howard's "If You're a Viper," which is very much not chiptune, but DOES indeed mention vipers! Played some other stuff that would fit in better with that game's soundtrack!
Lizbot (host) 6:35:52 PM
@Ambrose - He and Jean-Michel Jarre both had a lot of mega-crowd ginormous stadium shows all over europe
Christine 🌛 6:36:18 PM
I have to listen to the one by Faust later tonight.
George Korein 6:37:14 PM
Relaxing. Q Burns abstract massage
Ossy Hyouka 6:37:39 PM
Almost thought it was Missy Elliot's Rain!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:53 PM
@OSsy - haha, oh yeah!
Ossy Hyouka 6:38:00 PM
Hi Christine!
Lizbot (host) 6:38:02 PM
@GEorge - ha!
Lizbot (host) 6:38:57 PM
@Christine - The original is great of course, but I really like that cover and it brings me back to a very specific time in my early 20s...kind of a odd time for me, the late 90s, but still loved that cover then and love it now
Lizbot (host) 6:40:47 PM
It just sounded in this Welsh that the singer said "The whale's a manatee"
Hir0-Protagonist 6:41:25 PM
Just dropping in to say that the Q-burns song was hitting the spot 👌
Lizbot (host) 6:42:07 PM
Hi Hir0 - Glad to hear it!
Christine 🌛 6:42:12 PM
@Lizbot that cover of Jennifer is magical. ✨ I hadn't heard it in years! I want to go back and re-listen to both renditions. Can't stay up too late; Dave the Obscure is presenting part 2 of his dive into the Canterbury Scene tomorrow starting at 7:00 😴💤
Lizbot (host) 6:44:44 PM
@Christine - Oh yeah, DTO! I love the Canterbury Scene. I'm supposed to be meeting a friend in Harleigh Cemetery in Camden tomorrow to visit Walt Whitman's grave and then tour his house with her but I no feel up to it, so we'll see. If I feel better tomorrow, I may be listening to DTO on the way there
Hir0-Protagonist 6:45:49 PM
@Lizbot, a couple of months ago I forgot to turn off the radio and your show started up at 3am with this song. I woke up and thought I was dreaming
Lizbot (host) 6:46:28 PM
@Christine - That Q Burns "Jennifer" Faust cover came out when I was 20 and everything is intense then! There are songs I liked back then that stood the test of time and others I'd rather not revisit, even though I still like many of them, they just are too associated with one particular time or feeling, but that one I love to go back to
Hir0-Protagonist 6:46:51 PM
it was the most surreal feeling ever with the dreamy vibes and still being half asleep. I stayed up for another 90 minutes in pure bliss
Lizbot (host) 6:48:05 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - Oh wow, I love that! I often wonder if anyone catches the 3 am rebroadcast!
Lizbot (host) 6:48:44 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - Yeah, that song is perfect for a liminal dream-state! Glad you caught the rest of the show!
Hir0-Protagonist 6:49:33 PM
That wasn't the only occurrence lol. The wildest way to wake up at 3am was Taken by Anna Meredith blaring.
Hir0-Protagonist 6:50:01 PM
That was INTENSE!
Christine 🌛 6:50:31 PM
I hope you do feel lots better, so you can go ahead with your plans @Lizbot. And you can hopefully catch DTO's show.
Lizbot (host) 6:50:57 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - I love that! Taken is so joyous and builds fast!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:51:11 PM
@Lizbot, my wife is envious of you seeing MATMOS
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 6:51:27 PM
@Thanks, Christine!
Christine 🌛 6:54:27 PM
Anytime, aRob! I am looking forward to that Matmos show, never having seen them live.
Lizbot (host) 6:54:39 PM
@Christine - Thank you! I'd drink some caffeine to revive me but it's not just tiredness and I really need a GOOD sleep tonight...BONUS if I'm a chickadee-plover in my dreams
Lizbot (host) 6:56:39 PM
@Rob - Tell her I've seen Drew and Martin walking around Princeton's campus on more than one occasion! Drew has taught classes in the English Dept on Renaissance lit! They are very aware of WPRB. Dan Ruccia interviewed them years ago.
Hir0-Protagonist 6:57:40 PM
@Christine, where are you seeing Matmos?
Lizbot (host) 6:57:57 PM
@Rob - My favorite Matmos bill was with Princeton Laptop Orchestra and So Percussion many years ago. Since that show, So Percussion got a music dept. residency at Princeton and I subsequently saw them perform there a handful of times. I miss seeing them easily after my shows!
TAndy 6:59:05 PM
Gooooood evening everybody 😁
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:59:47 PM
Hiya TAndy!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:26 PM
Hello Tandy!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:00:37 PM
Christine, my wife is eyeing NYC. I might go to the Baltimore show. Or neither one of us might see them live
Christine 🌛 7:01:28 PM
@Hir0, Matmos will be playing PhilaMOCA on 8/12.
Lizbot (host) 7:02:52 PM
@TAndy - How's yr evening going?
Lizbot (host) 7:03:22 PM
@Christine - And dang, I'm supposed to be down the shore then!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:03:28 PM
@Lizbot, my wife is envious. She only recently became obsessed with that band. She listened to At Chockwell [sp] Park every day for a couple of months.
Christine 🌛 7:03:33 PM
@Rob, I hope you can both go to one of the shows 👍
Ambrose Hughes 7:03:44 PM
@Lizbot, I believe Wire just put out an album of outtakes of a lot of their earlier stuff.
Lizbot (host) 7:04:08 PM
@Chrsitine - not that that's a BAD thing! And I've seen them a bunch anyways, so it doesn't hurt too much to miss them
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:04:17 PM
@Lizbot, cool about that Matmos bill with the laptop orchestra
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:04:25 PM

Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:05:02 PM
@Christine, if they played in DC, I'd surely go
Lizbot (host) 7:05:18 PM
@DSM - If you're referring to Eliiot Klein, yeah, he's great! Philly 'burbs -based!
TAndy 7:05:27 PM
Hey! All of this music I've heard since waking up at 6:50 is very new to me, but I love it. That Suso Saiz album is definitely being queued up for later listening!
Ambrose Hughes 7:05:40 PM
Howdy Tandy!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:05:42 PM
@Christine, I was planning on going to that show! Though, I don't think I'll be able to because I'm going to the Here and There festival with courtney barnet, hana vu, faye webster, men I trust + many more in Mass the next day
Lizbot (host) 7:06:01 PM
@TAndy - Glad this music has ushered you into a new day/night! I think it's fitting for that!
Christine 🌛 7:06:23 PM
@Hir0, wow that sounds liked a packed bill!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:08:48 PM
I'm going to be in musical heaven with all of my favorite female led bands 🥴
Lizbot (host) 7:08:49 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - Ooh, I'd like to see Courtney Barnett on that bill! So many good shows coming up! I gotta plan my summer out carefully!
Christine 🌛 7:09:38 PM
This Eliot Klein track is So. Much. Fun.✨These sounds! When synths sound like this I call that "brain candy"
Hir0-Protagonist 7:09:44 PM
I saw Hot Chip last week! They were sooo much fun
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:09:56 PM
Me and the bearded dragon are really loving these last few tracks.

Hir0-Protagonist 7:11:03 PM
@Lizbot, you should check out https://www.hereandtherefest.com/
Lizbot (host) 7:11:11 PM
aawww, Addie! I love to think about a bearded dragon grooving to these tracks! Are they hanging out outside their terrarium?
Hir0-Protagonist 7:11:38 PM
Each day is a different set of artists that accompany Courtney Barrnet.
Christine 🌛 7:11:51 PM
I'm envious, @Hir0. Speaking of female rockin' bands, if you like Otoboke Beaver, they will playing Johnny Brenda's on 10/2.
Hir0-Protagonist 7:14:34 PM
@Christine 😮 OOO my! After checking out a couple songs, that's going to be a WILD show
Lizbot (host) 7:14:58 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - oh wow! That sounds amazing!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:16:24 PM
sidenote, are there any email chains/chats that are active for WPRB peeps meeting up at shows.
Lizbot (host) 7:17:16 PM
@Christine - An Otoboke Beaver would be as high energy as a Melt Banana show, I'd imagine! I saw MB I think every time they came to Philly and it was always a fun show!
Lizbot (host) 7:18:01 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - that would be a good idea, but there isn't anything official. just ppl talking about shows they're going to in the prb chats!
Lizbot (host) 7:18:39 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - oh man, you're getting in so many shows! I love Hot Chip, they're a fun band live!
Andrew Gruen 7:20:02 PM
otoboke beaver, pavement, and stereolab all in the same week this october!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:20:20 PM
I'm currently recovering from my stint of 6 shows in 8 days 😵
Lizbot (host) 7:20:34 PM
Hi Andrew!
Lizbot (host) 7:21:01 PM
@Andrew - I'll be going to the Pavement and Stereolab shows too - It'll be like 1998!
Lizbot (host) 7:21:38 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - Whoa! I used to get to that many shows in a week. I have been known to squeeze in two in the same day, but not so much lately!
Christine 🌛 7:23:22 PM
@Hir0, good for you; that takes stamina!
Christine 🌛 7:24:21 PM
@Lizbot, I'm not familiar with Melt Banana, so thanks for mentioning them.
Lizbot (host) 7:25:32 PM
@Andrew - In other bands who began in the 90s reuniting shows this summer, I am seeing a band who never broke up but is celebrating the anniversary of one of my favorite albums of theirs this summer- They Might be Giants "Flood" album anniversary tour, which was rescheduled so many times since 2020, is finally happening this June!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:25:42 PM
@Christine, thanks haha. I need to chill out for a hot minute lol buuut I'm always looking for concert buds.
Christine 🌛 7:26:11 PM

Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:33:40 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:34:13 PM
@Christine - I got that Bowerbird mailing list reminder email this morning about the jjjjjerome ellis show. Played them on my show a while back! Should be a good show!
Krista 7:34:17 PM

@liz late reply... I'm seeing TMBG in august! that show has been postponed twice since Aug 2020. they're so much fun live
Lizbot (host) 7:42:22 PM
@Brian D - haha, you were right! I somehow whack the pitch knob - I never touch it, I don't know how I didn't catch that sooner!
Hir0-Protagonist 7:42:23 PM
Ok, now I'm out for good. I had to stick around for that last tune lol
Lizbot (host) 7:43:27 PM
@Hir0-Protagonist - A Sunny day in Glasgow came to the station to record a set for Jon's show during my show once a million years ago and they stopped by in Studio B and were so nice and comped me to go to their show at Johnny Brenda's that night! Love those guys!
Christine 🌛 7:43:36 PM
@Brian, if anyone could discern a pitch variance, you could!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:48 PM
@Andrew Gruen - I know! I bought the ticket when they first went on sale pre-pandemic to see with my TMBG-loving friend show usually goes with me to their shows, and the subquent reschedule dates were fine, but now it's on my anniversary and my husband isn't a TMBG fan, so I am TORN. Also, I will be down the shore and driving from LBI to see them if I still go.
Andy Wing 7:48:49 PM
Just seeing the news about Vangelis, noooo! We just lost Klaus Schulze! Too much bad musical juju this month.
