What's up, Wednesday Night Pitcrew. This evening, I address you in puddle/zombie form, thanks to a server at our transmitter site that went kaplooey and took down our webstreams along with our ability to air live broadcasts until earlier this afternoon. Although the problem is now fixed, the fact that this outage occurred during a week when the staff is down to skeleton crew levels means that I've had only the faintest whiff of sleep since Tuesday. Did I mention we've also been killing ourselves to get all of the Fall membership drive packages into the mail for all y'all? Well, that too.
As such, since I've had zero time to investigate any of Britain's latest hitmakers (in the metaphysical sense), most of tonight's selections are of the moldy oldie variety, yanked haphazardly from my large and unspectacular vinyl collection. We'll get back to the business of spinning new sounds next week, but between the tech woes, the frantic packing and shipping, my hosting of the New Music Hour this past Monday, and running the chat on last night's rebroadcast of my show from last week, I need a night of mercy.
But fear not! All of tonight's thoroughly road-tested selections are also 100% Guaranteed and Wednesday Night Pitcrew Approved! So say hello in the chat and please go easy on my because I am literally propping my eyelids open with toothpicks at this point.

Pix of the building that (once) housed City Gardens, Trenton NJ.
Rumors of its impending collapse/demolition abound.
This is its condition as of 12/2/22
Who knows if it's gonna stick, but I'm presently on Mastodon. Click here to follow me there.

Wednesday night pitcrew please rise! And in the words of my man Crosley Bendix, "why don't you just put down that fanzine, turn off that TV, take off all your silly clothes and... think this over?"
Tonight (for a change), we gather here for a purpose. I've been spinning a freeform mix of all 7" singles over the course of the last two shows, but tonight, we narrow the focus to zero in on the 1990s punk, DIY, independent, and experimental scene -- a scene which was just lousy with 7" singles and which I acquired gazillions of as a Gen-Xer who spent most of the 1990s haunting gigs and hole-in-the-wall record shops. However, as I got older and ornery-er, and the specter of (boring) life changes one's 30s tends to usher in, I eventually decided that a ton of that music had aged badly and I wanted it out of my house. So I got rid of it -- some of it I sold, some of it I gave away (at least a car trunk's full of it to the kids who hosted the legendary Unaccompanied Minors show on WPRB circa 2000), and some of it was probably skimmed by unscrupulous roommates, of which I had plenty on my path from being the longhaired, cig-huffing slacker-of-yore, to the refined, cultured, and urbane Gentleman Of a Certain Age that graces your airwaves this evening.
But some of those singles I kept. And tonight, I will play 7" selections from that era and from those scenes from all the stuff that narrowly escaped the axe of vengeance some of us call Getting Old And Not Giving A Shit Anymore. BY NO MEANS is this meant to be a comprehensive or academic overview of the 1990s indie / punk singles scene. That horse has been beaten to death (partially by me, back in another life). Instead, tonight aims to be an intensely personal review of music I was likely tempted to jettison at some point, but decided to hang on to for some profound reason or another.
Above all else, don't forget to support freeform radio! Our Fall Fundraiser is still cranking away in the background, so if you feel like validating our weirdo tendencies, the best way to do so is by visiting our pledge site and making a donation. Thank you!

This is week #2 of WPRB's Fall Fundraiser, so please consider making a secure credit card pledge in the name of freeform radio. Recurring monthly donations are the BEST way to support WPRB because they allow us to budget for future projects and crazy ambitions, though one-time gifts are also welcome and appreciated. If you're already a monthly donor, you'll automatically receive all the WPRB gear your pledge level entitles you to, but if you want to show us some extra appreciation, please hit up our secure pledge site. Thank you for supporting independent, freeform radio!

Last Wednesday night's all-vinyl 45 throwdown was a hoot, right? Well did you know that when we wrapped up last Wednesday at 11 PM, I'd played less than half of the 45s I'd pulled for the show? So tonight, because I am lazy (read as: I didn't re-file last week's records yet), we're going to take yet another stumble through the land of scratchy 7" singles. If I can get myself organized, we'll even throw in some Halloween-adjacent jams throughout the evening.

Wednesday Night Pitcrew, please rise! And go sift through the debris field you call a home and get your wallets out because it's fundraising time here at WPRB! To tempt your better judgement, we've got a pile of 7" singles racked up for you here in the Starlite Lounge tonight. Peep the ever-changing lineup of picture sleeves (even the boring/plain ones) with the webcam link, while also getting a glimpse (at a new angle!) of the proceedings here in the studio tonight. It's a veritable love-fest of love crackles!
Credit card pledges as low as $10/month are the BEST way to support independent, freeform programming originating from here in the wilds of the Jersey Badlands, so as we stumble through the bins tonight, please hit up our secure pledge site when you hear that one 45 that just sends you over the moon and back. You'll be rewarded with the new WPRB t-shirt, sticker, and bottle opener, PLUS, you'll be in line to automatically receive every piece of new WPRB merch we roll out during future fundraisers. In other words, we'll charge your credit card at your preferred amount every month until you tell us to stop. I call it the "set it and forget it" model for keeping independent radio alive in the 21st century. (Though we also welcome one-time pledges if that's more your speed.)
It's been a crazy three years of pandemic tymez, and these weekly hangs in the Starlite Lounge have been a huge part of what's made it all bearable for me. If you feel the same way, I hope I'll be hearing from you tonight. Thank you!
