Backrooms won a ton of Chainsaw Awards from Fangoria magazine, which it deserves. 21-year-old director! Gives me hope to see such talent from younger folx.

Marcus, my then-wife and I saw the OG BWP in the theater before the hype; we thought it wuz an actual documentary... and were rattled.

I knew that Blair Witch wasn't an actual documentary about real events because we in the birding community would have known about the story/events already

I never watch horror films ever but I made an exception because of the western Maryland angle of BWP

@rosasolis, Seneca Creek State Park has regular woodland birds such as Red-tailed Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, wintering White-throated Sparrows, etc. I don't remember anything about any birds in BWP

BWP did found footage before it became commodified & overused.

@rosasolis, the insect choirs blended in perfectly with Experimental Audio Research

Grainy VHS contains lotsa ghosts and grease in its grain.

@Mats, the found footage thing definitely was a factor in seeing BWP

Barred Owls nest within a mile of our house so we hear them sometimes calling on our block (when we don't have WPRB streaming, obv.)

i just got a collection of her writings! i havent read much beyond some excerpts, but i figure it would align with a lot of what ive been reading, listening and writing

I find her style a bit tricky but worthwhile. She wuz suspected of being a spy at one point LOLOL. i don't have any specific recs, but I like her thoughts on abjection and bodily ejecta. She held her own against the french big league philosophers, which is impressive.

@Mats, I was trying to find info about moths that drink mammal tears. There's one species that drinks moose tears; I remember reading about species in the tropics that congregate around elephant or deer or antelope eyes and drink their tears. I didn't realize that other species drink bird tears
