Lizbot (host) 5:10:58 PM
Hi Thomas Hatch!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:18 PM
@Thomas Hatch - Batten down the hatches! Hide all sharps. DO not look Killbot in the eye, this taunts Killbot and stirs her ire.
thomas hatch 5:13:21 PM
I’m shaking in my boots
Number 6 5:14:34 PM
I hope that none of the bots in the studio start to come alive!

Lizbot (host) 5:17:44 PM
@Number 6 - Bot #2, the pinkbot, posed with me under the green glowing "WPRB" sign earlier today, and then whispered thinly-veiled threats in binary code
Lizbot (host) 5:18:16 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Ha! Might one consider going as a rolled out piece of Playdoh?

Rob from Scary Maryland 🦀 😱 5:36:13 PM
Hello Lizbot and listeners
Number 6 5:37:42 PM
We can't escape the robots, resistance is futile!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:42 PM
@Number 6 - A retired UPenn professor in Old City, Philly protests the robots by simply standing in front of them. Some people deface or hit them or kick them over, but she simply stands in front of them, but she was arrested just for standing there on the public sidewalk. There have been a LOT of those huge boxy bots on Philly's old historic narrow streets downtown! Sometimes they block older people, people in wheelchairs, strollers. And of course Philly famously killed HitchBot!
thomas hatch 5:38:49 PM
It was a prog trap!
thomas hatch 5:41:17 PM
I was in the hospital recently and they had robots roaming the halls overnight. It was scary. True story
thomas hatch 5:45:13 PM
I guess they were cure bots and not kill bots
Lizbot (host) 5:45:29 PM
@thomas hatch - yikes! Yeah, I don't trust those grocery bots in the aisles of Giant either! or the robots I encountered in a hotel near LAX that deliver razors and toothpaste to one's room. I don't know if I want robots armed with sharps roaming the halls at night!
𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 5:45:41 PM
I always fall for that prog trap - happily
Lizbot (host) 5:45:41 PM
Hi Rob from Scary Maryland 🦀 😱! Almost missed you there!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:38 PM
@𓀠 ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 𓀡 - A prog trap's got all other traps beat, and all other beats, including a prog trap beat
Tyler B. 5:47:54 PM
Have that richard Dawson track in a Halloween playlist from a previous year.Love that
Lizbot (host) 5:49:39 PM
Hi Tyler B.!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:18 PM
@Tyler B. - haha, yeah it would not be out of place on DevilPlusGhoul with Killbot next week!
iConJohn 5:50:58 PM
Hi Liz and Chat. This may be an unpopular opinion but I turned off WPRB both times I heard 99 Botltles this week. Lasted a 6 pack the first time, STAT today.
Lizbot (host) 5:51:44 PM
Hi iConJohn!
Mats Sabbath 5:53:20 PM
wazaaaaa
thomas hatch 5:53:28 PM
Icon j I was driving during 99 bottles and got to my destination but couldn’t leave the car until all the bottles were gone. I think you made the right choice
Lizbot (host) 5:53:54 PM
@iConJohn - haha, I heard that it was played today, but I did not hear it! 1 bottle won't make making an appearance on today's show, like alone 99!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:01 PM
Hi Mats Sabbath!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:32 PM
@thomas hatch - I believe I got caught in that bottle trap during more than one roadtrip!
thomas hatch 5:56:30 PM
Prog trap is better
Mats Sabbath 5:56:33 PM
Melvins covered 99 Bottles and I think it's their worst song ever. Luckily they are so prolific they are easy to forgive.
Lizbot (host) 5:58:13 PM
@thomas hatch - Prog trap is always better!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:55 PM
@Mats Sabbath - haha, I have seen Melvins with Lightning Bolt and I believe 99 Bottles might have cleared the room when they played too long!
Mats Sabbath 5:59:56 PM
I don't think even the mighty Jesus Lizard could get away with 99 Bottles.
iConJohn 6:00:36 PM
Getting a Residents dance vibe to this Celine Gillain.
Alex from Media 6:02:30 PM
Yes iConJohn! (Diskomo was a turning point in my life, for the record.)
Lizbot (host) 6:02:49 PM
@Mats Sabbath - At least once, former WPRB DJ Mr Various of The Worried Waltz played many consecutive versions of Pop Goes the Weasel!
Mats Sabbath 6:03:50 PM
Lizbot LOLOLOLOL
Lizbot (host) 6:04:30 PM
@iConJohn - yeah, I actually almost put a Residents song in this playlist, but we will likely be hearing them next Thursday evening or Halloween night!
Mats Sabbath 6:04:56 PM
there's a great scene in Hills Have Eyes 2006 where Jame/Jamie/James Gumm from Silence of the Lambs sings My Bonnie...Ocean, and it's the creepiest shit ever LOL
thomas hatch 6:05:47 PM
I used to load up the juke box with What’s New Pussycat on repeat and then leave the bar when I didnt like the vibe
Mats Sabbath 6:06:12 PM
thomas LOLOL
Lizbot (host) 6:06:15 PM
@Mats Sabbath - oooh, as far as well-known childhood public domain ballads and folksongs go, that's one of the better ones and seems to have a creepy backstory!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:04 PM
@thomas hatch - a old John Mulaney trick, the old endless What's New Pussycat on the juke
Mats Sabbath 6:07:20 PM
thomas I did that at Red's Recovery Room in norCal (mentioned in a Tom Waits song) with Pink Floyd Shine On Crazy Diamond all parts, and the local rednecks threatened to kill me LOL
RofflelecticDyslexia 6:07:23 PM
This gong vibe... lol
RofflelecticDyslexia 6:07:30 PM
Hi
thomas hatch 6:07:50 PM
Oh yeah I knew I got it from somewhere
iConJohn 6:09:20 PM
@Alex from Media Discomo was the first Residents record I bought after hearing it played by the late great DJ Lee Paris.
Lizbot (host) 6:10:04 PM
@thomas hatch - My friend & I in our 20s spent a drunken evening playing The Lemonheads' "It's a Shame About Ray" faaaaar too many times on Sugar Mom's jukebox. Pulled a similar stunt at the old New Wave Cafe in Queen Village playing a slew of Girlfriend In a Comas
Lizbot (host) 6:10:14 PM
Hi RofflelecticDyslexia!
Mats Sabbath 6:11:13 PM
Lizbot haaaaa! Good songs tho!
thomas hatch 6:11:25 PM
@LB yeah Morrisey overload never fails
iConJohn 6:11:42 PM
I miss Sugar Moms! A pic surfaced of the untouched bar a few years ago. Like a bar ghost town.
Lizbot (host) 6:11:46 PM
@Mats Sabbath - oh no! I got chewed out by a bartender once just for playing a Joy Division song because someone else earlier in the evening had played it when I wasn't even there and didn't know!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:43 PM
@iConJohn - Sugar Moms was great. I preferred it to Tattoo Moms. It was less crowded, more hidden away, and you didnt have to deal with South Street crowds! And I liked their old bumper cars!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:51 PM
@thomas hatch - I once showed up at my Morrissey-hating friends's house with a boombox with a Smiths mix and held it to her front door to greet her. To be fair, she committed similar shenanigans
Mats Sabbath 6:14:28 PM
NJ had the Bumper Car Psychos, documented in Weird NJ. Two burly dudes in bumper cars.
Mats Sabbath 6:15:12 PM
Lizbot that was punk rock what you did. Nice!
Mats Sabbath 6:16:05 PM
Strangeways Here We Come is a banger album.
Lizbot (host) 6:16:33 PM
@Mats Sabbath - oh boy. Just the thought of bumper cars brings back that increase greasy oily smell and the sounds of screeching brakes. Those things caused me so much anxiety, not least because my older brother lived to chase me in his bumper car every time we went to Gillian's on the boardwalk!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:50 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I love Strangeways. I like singing along to A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours because of the gusto with which Moz sings "Rrrrrrush"!
Lizbot (host) 6:18:51 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I've played on ++good before Scottish electronic composer Anna Meredith's bumper car-inspired album, BPM!
Mats Sabbath 6:19:00 PM
it's amazing Gen X isn't more damaged from how we grew up (feral/unsupervised/dangerously)
thomas hatch 6:21:09 PM
@ MS speak for yourself. I feel pretty damaged
Lizbot (host) 6:28:24 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I think the bumper car fumes did more damage to my brain and spinal column than all the hits! I preferred "The Whip," (sometimes called other names,)- that incredibly simple ride wherein you just ride in a pod on an oval track that whips you around really fast when you get to the bend
Mats Sabbath 6:28:40 PM
thomas haaaaaaa! Me too. In the Black Flag sense especially.
Alex from Media 6:29:19 PM
Just had a rogue brain wave that matched the low tones in Zervas to the harmonica in Fool on the Hill. I'm afraid there's been some erosion.
Mats Sabbath 6:29:40 PM
Lizbot The Whip! Yessssssss
Mats Sabbath 6:29:50 PM
Alex LOL
Mats Sabbath 6:30:20 PM
ah the mighty Cheer-Accident and the Autumn wind pirate
thomas hatch 6:30:24 PM
@ms that album defines my teenage years
Mats Sabbath 6:31:10 PM
thomas I have the Everything Went Black tattoo proudly on a wrist :)
Lizbot (host) 6:31:13 PM
@thomas hatch - ha, I'm just called I survived New Jersey's "Great Adventure" before it was Six Flags. It had a horrible accident record when I was a kid. Not as bad as North Jersey's Action Park by any means, but not great! Someone fell off the Salt & Pepper Shaker, and their haunted house, which I loved even though it was so janky and bad, burned down the day after one of my visits there.
Lizbot (host) 6:32:28 PM
My mom's purse was actually snatched in Great Adventure's haunted house in the 80s BY an employee dressed as a ghoul! Turns out that person had been pickpocketing a lot of park-goers!
Mats Sabbath 6:32:32 PM
Action Park is the New Vietnam, as Eyehategod said.
thomas hatch 6:33:09 PM
Action park was a death trap. There’s a documentary about how dangerous it was
thomas hatch 6:33:59 PM
I think MS and I are on the same wavelength
Mats Sabbath 6:34:05 PM
I've seen blood spilled at AP in the 1980s. Basically fun anarchism.
Mats Sabbath 6:35:15 PM
AP was a good boot camp for D.R.I. and Slayer live.
Lizbot (host) 6:35:18 PM
@Matts Sabbath - Action Park got so much attention and reminiscence in recent years with that doc that came out about it and Chris Gethard talking about going there on his show. I actually have an old friend whose parents' 1st date was at Action Park! It's pretty funny because it was clearly their dad's idea. Their mom was not into that place at all
Alex from Media 6:35:30 PM
Weren't NYC gangs scheduling their rumbles there at one point.
Mats Sabbath 6:36:01 PM
Alex LOLOLOLOL prolly
Mats Sabbath 6:36:24 PM
Lizbot that is rad re the date!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:47 PM
@Alex from Media - Probably! I mean, I don't think one needed to SCHEDULE a rumble in Action Park for a rumble to occur. The staff itself was made up of very drunk teenagers and a lot of ppl went there to stir up trouble and lose some limbs!
Mats Sabbath 6:38:07 PM
band name: Scheduled Rumbles
Lizbot (host) 6:38:39 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Yeah! That couple didn't last, but that date is responsible for leading to the existence of one of my favorite people in the world, so yay to Action Park!
Mats Sabbath 6:40:53 PM
crossfaded teenyboppers as staff at a dangerous fun park was such a bad idea, but only in retrospect
Alex from Media 6:41:06 PM
LOL Mats, some kind of jazz band. maybe Russ Tamblyn could front for full effect.
Mats Sabbath 6:41:52 PM
Alex Lol! Wuz just reading about Russ T in Kyle MacLachlan's excellent memoir.
Lizbot (host) 6:43:11 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Scheduled Rumbles! Ha! Rockabilly chaos + synthy darkwave order perhaps??
Mats Sabbath 6:44:06 PM
Lizbot sounds good
Lizbot (host) 6:44:34 PM
@Alex from Media - Yes! Add Amber Tamblyn's dad for a rumbling ramble in a park in shambles!

how did we go from the innocence of Fooblitzky 1985 to the fukn techno Blade Runner Nick Land utter dystopia we enjoy now LOL
Lizbot (host) 6:57:38 PM
@Andrew Pantry - It's a good one! I love that bassline!
Lizbot (host) 6:58:04 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:01:18 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Glad you're digging it!
Amy Lee 7:01:27 PM
All the talk of action park reminds me I need to see the doc. Pretty sure that's the reason I don't like water related stuff. Cause of the cement below the water at ac..
Lizbot (host) 7:01:43 PM
Hello Amy Lee!
Amy Lee 7:02:38 PM
Rides, theme parks, etc.
Lizbot (host) 7:02:55 PM
@Mats Sabbath - oh nice! I follow a Dutch comedian who seems to structure most of his comedy around the notion that many Dutch are humorless! His words, not mine! They make good anarcho-punk, that I know for sure!
thomas hatch 7:03:02 PM
Fun fact: I recently looked at Robin Hytchcocks Bio page and discovered we have the same birthday
Lizbot (host) 7:04:49 PM
@Amy Lee - Oh man, I lived for waterparks as a kid, I loved waterslides and log flumes, but the ONE thing I really hated was those wave pools, and apparently more people died at Action Park's unassuming wave pool than on any other ride (doc spoiler!)
Amy Lee 7:05:05 PM
I tried to catch up w/the chat but it's a chatty bunch
Mats Sabbath 7:05:20 PM
Lizbot totally true about dutch humorlessness LOL.
Alex from Media 7:05:36 PM
Will be exploring Lather!
Alex from Media 7:05:46 PM
Ok that sounded wierd.
Amy Lee 7:05:57 PM
It was the wave pool, so no surprise there
Mats Sabbath 7:06:00 PM
Alex LOL
Andrew Pantry 7:06:16 PM
that burst of noise was fantastic
Lizbot (host) 7:07:35 PM
@Amy Lee - The first time I saw a wave pool I thought it'd be fun because I love swimming, I love the ocean, so sure, why not?! Turns out you really need the buoyancy of salt water to safely swim in waves. The relentlessness of the waves with NO easy way out and overcrowded pools was apparently wildly dangerous, (unlike when you can just back up the beach gradually in the ocean,) AND apparently the waves of people effectively hid people in distress from lifeguards!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:16 PM
@Andrew Pantry - I love this song, it cracks me up!
Mats Sabbath 7:08:41 PM
waves also need much more space than contained pools
Lizbot (host) 7:08:47 PM
This song goes out to my sister-in-law and his husband, whose baby boy was born today! "I am your father, mother too!"
Mats Sabbath 7:09:28 PM
George Saunders has a short story about a deadly waterpark. One of his best.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:32 PM
@Mats Sabbath - YES. Those pools were evil! I remember the panic I felt in them, and I was a swim team kid who could not get enough time in the water!
Lizbot (host) 7:09:48 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I must check that out!
Mats Sabbath 7:10:33 PM
"The Wavemaker Falters" I believe is the title.
Lizbot (host) 7:10:59 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Nice, I will add to my list!
Lizbot (host) 7:12:39 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I like the author Yoko Ogawa, and she has a short story called The Diving Pool about a creepy teenaged girl obsessed with a diver
TAndy 7:12:43 PM
Hey hey Lizbot and all!
Mats Sabbath 7:13:47 PM
Lizbot on it! Simon Hanselmann has a super disturbing story about a waterpark gone wrong.

Lizbot (host) 7:15:41 PM

TAndy 7:20:33 PM
@Lizbot I actually kinda have less sleep despite my bedroom being completely blacked out. Not entirely sure why that is!
Mats Sabbath 7:21:03 PM

@thomas hatch - Scheduled Prog Rumble - every Thursday at 5 pm on WPRB!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:40 PM
@TAndy - Yeah, somehow that happens to me too! I was super tired last night, so I watched Canadian B horror movie Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II instead of sleeping!

Mats Sabbath 7:26:44 PM
Lizbot what!! Chopping Mall rules. Barbara Crampton!
Mats Sabbath 7:26:59 PM
Roff! wazaaa
Mats Sabbath 7:28:05 PM
Chopping Mall has so many WTF moments.
Lizbot (host) 7:28:32 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Check out the credits! Look for the name "George Mahlberg". That was Dr. Cosmos! I also love that the friends/dry comedy duo of Mary Worinov & Paul Bartel have cameos in the beginning!
Mats Sabbath 7:29:20 PM
Mahlberg!! (Chopping) Mallberg!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:47 PM
@Mats Sabbath - WHen I first saw it, I was really hoping Mary and Paul would reappear, but it's okay it was just a cameo because that movie was highly entertaining and ridiculous! Great soundtrack too! Killbot MIGHT play something from it next Thursday or Saturday night!
Mats Sabbath 7:30:14 PM
yesssssssss
Mats Sabbath 7:32:00 PM
I think the youth today want mall culture to return. It was, for all its faults, social and analog. Orange Julius!
Mats Sabbath 7:32:47 PM
the Hot Dog on a Stick work outfit is total drip/rizz
Alex from Media 7:34:04 PM
Def on board for the return of Wurlitzer shops featuring live bossa nova instrumentals.
Lizbot (host) 7:34:40 PM
@Mats Sabbath - WIthout malls we wouldn't have Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Logan's Run or the many movies shot in the Sherman Oaks Galleria!
Mats Sabbath 7:35:08 PM
good point, dj
Mats Sabbath 7:35:53 PM
Aloha Mr. Hand!

Lizbot (host) 7:44:30 PM
@Alex from Media - As a piano-playing/keyboard kid, I lived for those mall keyboard/piano/electric organ stores! I loved to play all the weighted key keyboards my parents would never in a million years buy!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:39 PM
Hi Chris Mohr!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:11 PM
@Chris Mohr - oh my god, that sounds amazing. I must watch after the show!
Mats Sabbath 7:45:57 PM
in Atlanta GA in the 1980s there was a strange mall underground beneath another mall that featured an organ grinder monkey who'd tug on yer pantleg and panhandle.
Lizbot (host) 7:47:18 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Long Live Spicoli. Also props to Taylor Negron as the pizza guy who plies Spicoli with his classroom pizzas. Taylor Negron is one of those guys who steals a scene in the shortest of cameos! Also great in Better Off Dead
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:47:50 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Just lurkin' while workin' at my desk and digging on DoublePlusGood as always
Lizbot (host) 7:48:23 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Are you sure you didn't just dream that organ grinder monkey subterranean mall? Sounds like a nightmare!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:38 PM
Hi Richard of Rocky Hill!
Richard of Rocky Hill 7:48:54 PM
Thanks for the Jack Bruce track. There was more to his music and career after the supergroup band Cream.
Lizbot (host) 7:48:55 PM
@Richard of Rocky Hill - I always welcome a good lurk!
Mats Sabbath 7:49:39 PM
Lizbot the monkey checks out! My ex experienced it. Indeed, surreal.
thomas hatch 7:50:22 PM
Thanks for the tunes and chatter everyone
Mats Sabbath 7:50:39 PM
Lizbot you reminded me with Prom Night 2 of this book I'd forgotten reading https://arpbooks.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9781894037211.jpg
Lizbot (host) 7:51:33 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Monkey shines at night, sailor's fright
Alex from Media 7:51:33 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:52:39 PM
Thanks Mats! I gotta check out that Canadian horror book, looks great! ANd i should watch more Canadian horror!
Mats Sabbath 7:52:55 PM
DevilPlusGhoul yessssssss. Clever!
Mats Sabbath 7:53:52 PM
Humongous messed me up as a kid, but on rewatch it is just silly teenybop canadian horror.
Lizbot (host) 7:56:52 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Sounds like most of the horror I grew up on! Fun now, terrifying upon first viewing at a tender age! Even Poltergeist messed me up because I saw it when it came out because my parents let my older brother take me. I was nervous to show it to my daugher when she was younger - She just laughed at how silly it was!
Mats Sabbath 7:56:58 PM
wprb forevah
Lizbot (host) 7:57:15 PM
@Mats Sabbath - I maintain that the old TV static was scary AF, though!
Mats Sabbath 7:57:29 PM
Poltergeist is incredibly fucked up, and was rated PG!
Number 6 7:58:57 PM
Thanks for the ++ Ghoul pre show, BCNU!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:20 PM
Thanks Number 6!
RofflelecticDyslexia 7:59:35 PM
Ghoul man, real ghoul. See ya Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:41 PM
@Mats Sabbath - Poltergeist was one of many movies I saw too young!
Andrew Pantry 8:00:11 PM
thanks for the extremely freeform show lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:18 PM
@Mats Sabbath - few rated films and a general blasé attitude led to me seeing many scary movies, but I loved most of them. I also somehow wound up seeing Blue Velvet with my parents, Im sure they just didn't want to get a babysitter!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:32 PM
Thanks, Andrew Pantry for tuning in!
