Hi Padma, good morning! Thank you for a lovely start to my morning so far! Sangeet and coffee is my favorite weekend ritual.

Singing right now is Veena Sahasrabuddhe. The composer is Meerabhai, a Princess of Northwestern India who lived in the early 15th century

Good morning addie "5 snakes" plum! On a rainy morning in Princeton today, coffee and music sounds perfect!

Mats, Carnatic musicians usually include a couple of Hindustani musical pieces in their concerts.

So, the Carnatic flute players bring a set of flutes of varying lengths to the concert stage.

The composer of this piece sung by Kishori Amonkar Meerabhai was an ardent devotee of God Krishna. One can feel the intense emotion and the longing to be united with the divine in this rendering I feel

Matt, the percussion accompaniments in the tune you heard were: mridangam, a double headed drum of animal skin, and Ghatam, an earthenware pot.

There are Ghatam experts who would throw the pot up in the air between two beats during live concerts while playing the percussion solo!
