Hello Hello! Happy National Radio Day!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:03:26 PM
Hello! The funky drummer music ended after about a minute and now I hear silence
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:03:54 PM
And now I hear a song in ?Spanish
Lizbot (host) 5:04:09 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland 🦀!
Lizbot (host) 5:04:17 PM
Yeah i know. It's not on my end
Lizbot (host) 5:04:46 PM
THe broadcast didn't switch over from the other studio where the previous DJ is to the Barge for some reason
Lizbot (host) 5:05:10 PM
We are working on it. I can't really do anything about it from this end. Waiting for tech to fix it where they are
rosasolis 5:05:55 PM
hi its another tech issue; we are resolving it; im so sorry!!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:12 PM
Hi rosasolis!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:22 PM
@rosasolis - Marci is working on it
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:06:32 PM
I'll just sit here and look for tornado warnings in the DC & Philly area
Lizbot (host) 5:06:46 PM
Okay, well maybe I'll be on after this ad, I hope!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:34 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Raining here
rosasolis 5:07:46 PM
ok i think things should be fixed :) i hear your track liz!!
Lizbot (host) 5:08:08 PM
2rosasolis - Phew!
Danosaur🦖 5:13:31 PM
Hi everybody!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:01 PM
Up and running and playing all new releases for the next 45 minutes or so, then some older stuff, then tons of new releases in the final hour of the show, slightly shortened though, so we'll see what we get to!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:12 PM
Hi D Danosaur🦖!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:36 PM
@Danosaur🦖- Haha, accidentally gave you a first initial!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:17:12 PM
bye rosasolis and hi Lizbot and Danosaur
Lizbot (host) 5:17:28 PM
It wouldn't be National Radio Day without some live radio tech intrigue!
Danosaur🦖 5:17:29 PM
No problem, Lizbot 😁
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:17:35 PM
@Lizbot, it was raining here briefly
Danosaur🦖 5:17:44 PM

Danosaur🦖 5:18:06 PM
Hi addie!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:18:48 PM
Hi addie!
Lizbot (host) 5:18:55 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - I hope you and the fam & sneks are well
Lizbot (host) 5:19:59 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I just missed the rain on the way here. Looked out the window 5 minutes after arriving and saw it was raining outside the studio. Nervous about the heavy rain forecast / tornado warning during my drive home!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 5:20:08 PM
Hey Rob hey Danosaur! @lizbot we are mostly well today! Spouse has a cold, alas. Can report Hercule is feisty.
Lizbot (host) 5:20:36 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - For some reason I had a feeling things were gonna be screwy today!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:29 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Aw, feisty Hercule! Give my regards to poor ailment-addled Hawkeye!
Arlene Machiavelli 5:21:33 PM
hi everyone! yay I get to catch Lizbot's show! listening from oceanside CA, greetings from the beach :)
Lizbot (host) 5:21:47 PM
Hi Arlene Machiavelli!
Danosaur🦖 5:22:06 PM
@Lizbot - I'm here for the screwy energy. It IS National Screwy Radio Day, after all
Lizbot (host) 5:22:21 PM
@Arlene Machiavelli - Nice! I wish I had yr weather! Dank & rainy in Central Jersey and Philly today with tornado warning!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 5:22:36 PM
Hello Arlene!
Danosaur🦖 5:23:13 PM
Hey, Arlene! I'm listening from just north of you in Los Angeles
Danosaur🦖 5:24:19 PM
@Lizbot - I don't know if you'd like our weather here right now. Extreme heat advisory today so it's hot as blazes
Lizbot (host) 5:24:41 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I want a Calfornia burrito and a nice beach walk!
Danosaur🦖 5:25:09 PM
@Lizbot - Ha! Me too!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:19 PM
@Danosaur🦖- Yeah, that doesn't sound so good. I bet a lot nicer with Arlene's ocean breeze!
Arlene Machiavelli 5:32:04 PM
@danosaur waving in the direction of north!!!
Danosaur🦖 5:32:54 PM
@Arlene - Oh, hi! *waving back*
Arlene Machiavelli 5:33:21 PM
@lizbot ohmigosh tornado warning! my family and many of my friends are still in NJ (I grew up there) and the tornado warnings have been so much more frequent-- scary! it is 82 with an ocean breeze here in oceanside, lovely beach day!
Danosaur🦖 5:34:53 PM
@Arlene - Aah, gotta love that beach weather
Lizbot (host) 5:35:31 PM
@Arlene Machiavelli - Sounds so nice! I'm going down the Jersey shore for just the weekend tomorrow to have our annual family reunion, but the forecast is not so good all weekend!
Lizbot (host) 5:36:10 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I think I'd take yr heatwave, as much as I dislike those, over this dank tornado weather and rain all weekend when I'm gonna be down the shore!
Danosaur🦖 5:37:31 PM
@Lizbot - I can understand that. Tornadoes are no fun and can definitely put a crimp in the festivities
Lizbot (host) 5:38:08 PM
@Arlene Machiavelli - Yeah, the tornado warnings and the actual tornados and "micro-bursts" are no joke and have become FAR too frequent! I only remember a few of these from childhood through to about maybe 10 years ago, then there started being maybe one or two a year. Now there a many in one month!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:38:24 PM
Chester PA-Delaware PA- 534 PM EDT Thu Aug 20 2026 ...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 600 PM EDT FOR EAST CENTRAL CHESTER AND SOUTHWESTERN DELAWARE COUNTIES... At 534 PM EDT, a severe squall line capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage was located along a line extending from near Glenmoore to near Marshallton, moving east at 45 mph. Potential HAZARD...Tornado. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
Lizbot (host) 5:38:27 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I suspect our cookout will wind up being a cook-in
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:38:54 PM
@Lizbot, that warning means that a tornado could drop at any minute. A tornado has not been sighted
Lizbot (host) 5:39:03 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Oof. I hope that's gone by the time I drive from Central Jersey to Philly at 8!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 5:40:15 PM
Yikes!! We don’t need any more straight line wind situations!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:19 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Oh yeah, that still makes me nervous! Neighborhoods adjacent to mine in Philly got very damaged this summer in a micro-burst last month, so I don't love these sudden storms and tornado warnings!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:31 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Ughhhhh
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:41:02 PM
@Lizbot, I have the same memories of tornado warnings becoming more frequent. Part of the increase comes from warning about storms capable of producing tornados, rather than waiting for a tornado signature to show up on radar (or an actual sighting of a tornado)
Lizbot (host) 5:41:24 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Yeah, those can be just a damaging as a tornado. Boooo
Danosaur🦖 5:41:30 PM
@Lizbot - Yes, as annoying as these heatwaves have been this summer at least they are predictable unlike tornadoes
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:41:36 PM
@Lizbot, that particular line of storms should be gone by 8 pm
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:42:34 PM
We've had straight line wind damage as well as microdownburst damage near enough to our house in the past year or two
Lizbot (host) 5:44:07 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 / @addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 / @Danosaur🦖 - There was a severe actual tornado in Princeton about a dozen years ago and, after doing a 6-hour DevilPlusGhoul, followed by an episode of Mike Hunter's Music with Space, Mike Hunter and I were stuck in the old studio until about 4 AM sheltering in place with some Princeton students in the basement!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:53 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Heatwaves do really stink, but I'd rather drive an hour in one of those than in straight-line wind and heavy rain
Danosaur🦖 5:45:01 PM
@Lizbot - Now that's dedication!
Lizbot (host) 5:47:19 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - I do it for the love of Radio...and for National Radio Day!
Danosaur🦖 5:48:14 PM
@Lizbot - Yeah, driving in severe weather like that is no joke. Sometimes your wipers can't keep up with the rainfall
Danosaur🦖 5:50:37 PM
The Catburgers have a nice twee/rock sound
iConJohn 5:50:38 PM
Hi Liz! Tobias made note in his playlist that Punish My Mind is Playing Fort Mifflin in September. Found a 3 day festival with like 200 acts. huh?
Lizbot (host) 5:50:56 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I feel like my old car's wipers had a faster highest setting, and even that wasn't enough at times. Sometimes I just gotta pull over into the shoulder and wait it out
Lizbot (host) 5:51:06 PM
Hi iConJohn!
Lizbot (host) 5:51:42 PM
@iConJohn - Oh that's definitely gotta be the Making Time Transcendental Fest
iConJohn 5:51:59 PM
I know Fort Mifflin has EDM raves. Does this old guy have that right?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:52:40 PM
Danosaur, I agree about Catburgers. And I like Sweet Tooth too
Lizbot (host) 5:53:10 PM
@iConJohn - I've attended most of those. It happens every September at Fort Mifflin. Booked by Dave Pianka
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:53:38 PM
@Lizbot, yikes about that actual tornado that kept you, Mike, and students in the basement until 4 am
Lizbot (host) 5:53:45 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Glad you dug that twee interlude!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:13 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah The Catburgers have been around since the mid-80s in Edinburgh, but they just don't have a lot of releases
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:54:19 PM
Sonic Blume is good too! Reminds me of older Alvvays
Lizbot (host) 5:54:38 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - That was a very memorable Devilplusghoul Halloween night!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:55:00 PM
Oh no said my bank account, the Catburgers have a new album on Slumberland ...
iConJohn 5:55:08 PM
Can we trade the Ft Mifflin fest for the one Under the Brooklyn Bridge for punk boomer and Ben Xers.
Lizbot (host) 5:55:31 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, I could see that. I wish Sonic Blume played longer. They are from North Jersey. Speaking of Alvvays, I saw them on a beautiful summer night at The Dell in Fairmount Park, Philly a couple summers ago!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:55:43 PM
@Lizbot, was that actually on Halloween night? I'm going to look it up
Lizbot (host) 5:56:26 PM
@iConJohn - EDM raves? Yeah, more or less! Ben Xers! = Gen-Xers who hang out under Philly's Ben Franklin Bridge??!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:57:27 PM
@Lizbot, that's great that you saw Alvvays! It takes a whole lot to get either one of us to see live music anymore
Lizbot (host) 5:59:05 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yes. I am pretty sure! It was years before the pandemic. I did 6 hours that night, maybe 8, but I think 6, then MIke came on after me. It was pre-current playlist system (there have been...4? 5? playlist systems since I started 24 years ago!)
Lizbot (host) 6:05:18 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Might've been 2019, but feels longer ago than that! I looked up dates Halloween fell on a Thursday. All I know is I did a double-long show, Mike Hunter made it in after me, so I did 5-11 pm, he made it in before the tornado, then the storm picked up shortly after he arrived, so I stayed and hung out during his whole show, during which a bunch of Princeton students were sent to our basement to shelter in place
Danosaur🦖 6:06:08 PM
Enjoying this 80's flashback set
Lizbot (host) 6:06:22 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I remember distinctly that some of the students watched "A Quiet Place" on someone's laptop in the basement, so I guess it was Thursday, Oct 31st 2019 since Quiet Place came out 2018!
Lizbot (host) 6:06:37 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - THis one is just on the cusp, being 1990!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:25 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - And Big Star is early 70s, and that Cure song was 1992, but if you average them out, it's all 80s!
Danosaur🦖 6:08:42 PM
@Lizbot - Haha!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:15 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - And here's yet another 1990 jam from my early teens!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:36 PM
I'm having a weird flashback, but gonna leave it soon!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:10:00 PM
@Lizbot, I just found a National Weather Service page about the Oct 31 2019 overnight storm. Yiiiikes!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:10:16 PM
Oh mannnnn, this is such a nostalgic song!!!
Danosaur🦖 6:10:22 PM
@Lizbot - the older I get the more it all just blurs into one, amorphous memory of the past. More of a feeling than anything
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:11:41 PM
@Danosaur, vibing the 80s
Lizbot (host) 6:11:52 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - I know, right! This song always puts me back in my early teens, for better or worse! It's drenched with nostalgia. Also feels summery but melancholy
Lizbot (host) 6:12:31 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - haha, there ya go!
Danosaur🦖 6:13:21 PM
Were everyone's teen years a mixture of happiness and melancholy or was it just me?
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:13:28 PM
That song sends me back to working in the Cherry Hill I. goodberg
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:13:38 PM
Goldberg!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:55 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, More of a feeling than logical sequential events it how I'd categorize many of my dreams. Feelings and images. I think most of our memories slowly mutate in that direction!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:14:22 PM
@Danosaur, maybe it's just you? ;;-)
Danosaur🦖 6:15:22 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Haha!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:21 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - OMG, I remember that I. Goldberg! I used to wear utility jackets with patches. I went in that place. I usually got my jackets in my teens and 20s from the Pennsauken Mart used "Work Clothes" store, (the bucket of used embroidered nametag and company name patches was a source of endless amusement and 25 cent purchases for me). But I also went in that I Goldberg, perhaps while you were there@
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:17:05 PM
I’m sure you did come by when I was there! I think 1996-1997ish
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:17:20 PM
I worked there with my brother
Lizbot (host) 6:18:49 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Mine definitely were! I spent warm summer days indoors listening to The Smiths and generally moping, but was also hyper and went to a lot of shows
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:20:04 PM
I had lots of existential crises when I was a teen, @Danosaur
Lizbot (host) 6:20:16 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Oh yeah, that would be prime I Goldberg era for me, although by '97 I was living in PA and going to the one in Center City just as much, but also spending a lot of time in Jersey at my parents' and hitting up Cherry Hill
Danosaur🦖 6:21:16 PM
@Lizbot - That's what I'm talking about - lots of manic energy with periods of moping
Lizbot (host) 6:24:03 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Same. I was grateful for most of my high school English teachers and my art teacher for making those years more bearable. I loved printmaking in Mr. Cook's class and explicating poems.
Danosaur🦖 6:26:12 PM
@Lizbot - Yes! Thank heavens for good teachers. My high school art teacher and my drama teacher were the only bright spots in high school
Lizbot (host) 6:29:38 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Aw, teen intense feelings, ups & downs and growing pains!
Lizbot (host) 6:30:24 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I lucked out with almost all my high school English teachers. And my art teacher didn't get a lot of funding or supplies, but he still came up with cool projects for us
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:30:25 PM
Same same, thank goodness for the arts and my super wonderfully weird best friend.
Danosaur🦖 6:30:34 PM
Ha! The lyrics in this song. "strip down to your underwear". Can relate
Danosaur🦖 6:31:42 PM
@addie - Same! I had a best friend that I could be weird with too. We were in a world of our own
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:31:47 PM
@Lizbot, be careful on your drive home, there's a Flash Flood Warning for [all of] Mercer, e. central Montgomery, s.e. Bucks, and n.e. Philadelphia Counties
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:33:02 PM
I was a solitary weird kid in high school. Moving twice while during that period (military father) did not help matters
Lizbot (host) 6:34:32 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - For real! Yeah, I went to a bit of sports-oriented preppy high school so I did not relate to 90% of the students, but it was thankfully a big enough school to have arts kids. I was an "art major" (we had to choose majors in my high school, weirdly.) and they let me do my senior project on symbolism in Irish folklore films and how they incorporated modern Irish Troubles (This was a couple years before the Good Friday Agreement!)
Ossy 6:35:02 PM
hi Liz
Lizbot (host) 6:35:52 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - One girl I befriended simply because in middle school lunchroom she knew who Phil Ochs was and no other 6th graders in my school listened to that music! We remained friends because it turns out we had other things in common
Lizbot (host) 6:36:04 PM
Hi Ossy! How are you?
Lizbot (host) 6:36:31 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I still will take the summer-y weather to Philly winter!
Danosaur🦖 6:36:56 PM
Hey Ossy!
Ossy 6:37:27 PM
Liz - aside from a great birthday week, not feeling in nicknaming good moods lol
Ossy 6:37:36 PM
Hi danosaur
Lizbot (host) 6:38:16 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Ugh, Good to know. I saw something about that, but yeah, that's very specifically my route home! I go through Mercer County, NJ, a big chunk of Bucks County etc on my drive home. George's car actually FLOODED on Kelly Drive earlier this summer and was totalled as a result, just driving in the left lane!
Lizbot (host) 6:39:00 PM
@Ossy - Sorry to hear that but Happy Birthday!
Danosaur🦖 6:39:16 PM
Ooh, this is a breezy tune
Lizbot (host) 6:39:19 PM
This song is aspirational!
Lizbot (host) 6:39:39 PM
Maybe if i play sunny music this storm will clear sooner...fingers crossed!
Danosaur🦖 6:40:16 PM
Dance the clouds away
Lizbot (host) 6:40:32 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - I can't even imagine how I would've handled switching towns/schools as a kid/teen. Not well, I'm sure!
Lizbot (host) 6:40:45 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - The opposite of a rain dance!
Danosaur🦖 6:41:26 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Agree, switching schools must be rough
Lizbot (host) 6:41:46 PM
The next show is REALLY gonna be wishful thinking.
Lizbot (host) 6:42:39 PM
@Rob from Maryland / @Danosaur🦖 - I think switching schools is hard for any kid, but especially more sensitive creative types who aren't necessarily the most extroverted
Ossy 6:42:39 PM
Liz - thanks and also get alot too many times, that i joke around tooooo much, that people find not fun
Danosaur🦖 6:42:42 PM
This XTC song has a bit of a McCartney feel
Lizbot (host) 6:43:16 PM
@Ossy - It's fine here! The chat is always here!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:31 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I could see that
Lizbot (host) 6:43:45 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - But with maybe Van Dyke Parks influence
Lizbot (host) 6:44:11 PM
This is the most incantation for a rainless day song of the set!
Danosaur🦖 6:44:24 PM
@Lizbot - Yes!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:45:09 PM
Whoa, am I high or is this song?
Danosaur🦖 6:45:24 PM
If David Lynch had owned a roller rink this is the music they would play there
Lizbot (host) 6:45:52 PM
This Bill Nelson song also makes me feel like I'm slightly dizzy on a merry-go-round or those amusement parks hanging swings, "wave swings" i think
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:45:52 PM
@Danosaur lolllllllll
Danosaur🦖 6:46:11 PM
I love this Bill Nelson song!
Lizbot (host) 6:46:14 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - haha, spot-on!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:46:36 PM
Yes, dizzy!
Danosaur🦖 6:47:22 PM
Yes, I can imagine an amusement park ride playing that song
Danosaur🦖 6:47:55 PM
I feel like I'm at Lizbot's Haunted Circus
Ossy 6:48:29 PM
And October 2 months away
iConJohn 6:48:55 PM
Was that Bill Nelson some sort of tribute to the musical Oklahoma?
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:49:07 PM
Hi Ossy!
Ossy 6:49:28 PM
Hi addie
Danosaur🦖 6:50:12 PM
I remember Slim Whitman albums being advertised on UHF television stations years ago
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:50:35 PM
That was some sweet sweet yodeling.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:51:30 PM
@Lizbot, bummer about George's car!!
Danosaur🦖 6:51:52 PM
Wasn't that Silicon Teens song used in the National Lampoon's Vacation movie?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 6:51:55 PM
@Ossy, happy birthday (and sorry to hear that)
Alex 6:52:53 PM
You never fail to, "Bring It". Thanks so much for the hip tunes!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:39 PM
Hi Alex!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:58 PM
@Alex - Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the music!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:56:10 PM
This is delightfully wonky.
Alex 6:56:48 PM
Mario
Ossy 6:56:57 PM
NES/GBC/DOS vibes
Ossy 6:57:21 PM
Hi Rob and double thanks
Lizbot (host) 6:57:39 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Slim Whitman is pretty great! Incidentally, Tim Burton chose to use a clip of one of his song as the sound that killed the invading aliens by making their heads explode!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 6:58:18 PM
Oh yes!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:17 PM
@Ossy - VERY much! Like I grew up on Atari and then original NES, original Nintendo being the most formative for me, and this is very much like those "chip tunes," 8-bit to 16-bit era using those square waves and reminds me a little too of the background music in some levels of Mario 2
Ossy 7:00:01 PM
Now it sounds like Kirby also
Ossy 7:00:28 PM
I grew up on GBC and DOS before NES in middle school era
Lizbot (host) 7:00:33 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Glad you're digging it! Yeah, I am a sucker for when people compose whole modern classical pieces or covers in chiptune format!
Alex 7:02:32 PM
Waiting for game over bleeps.
Lizbot (host) 7:02:52 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Was on mic when you asked this, so seeing it now, but I know Silicon Teens was Red River Rock was used in a different John Hughes movie I love: Planes, Trains & Automobiles very memorably! Might have turned up in Vacation as well but I don't remember that, mostly remember Lindsay Buckingham's "Holiday Road" with the keyboard hand-claps and dog-barks in Vacation!
Lizbot (host) 7:03:31 PM
@Alex - That would have made sense!
Ossy 7:04:07 PM
The last 8bit tune sounds off from GBC Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Ted 7:05:09 PM
My favorite movie The Greasy Strangler has an excellent chip tune soundtrack. Not a film for everyone.
Danosaur🦖 7:05:31 PM
@Lizbot - You might be right about it being in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. One of my fav movies
Lizbot (host) 7:05:43 PM
@Ossy - I never played Kirby when it came out because my pet German mini-lop rabbit had chewed through my NES cord by that point and my parents refused to replace it. Plus that game was I'm guessing for Super NES anyway. I never had that. I had NES from its inception until it was murdered by my bunny in 8th grade or so
Lizbot (host) 7:05:49 PM
Hi Ted!
Lizbot (host) 7:07:31 PM
@Ted - I am not familiar with that movie and always looking for new recommendations. Intrigued by the soundtrack...What is the gist of the movie (with no spoilers)?
Lizbot (host) 7:08:33 PM
@Ted - Oh I just looked it up and I am further intrigued!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:20 PM
@Ossy - I need to check out more of these game soundtracks. Even the games I never played, I often really enjoy the old chiptune soundtracks
Danosaur🦖 7:11:44 PM
Always love a fuzztone guitar
Ted 7:11:49 PM
Trying to describe it would only make me sound insane. Director Jim Hosking was the maniac behind Tropical Cop Tales on Adult Swim.
TAndy 7:12:05 PM
I've risen for the storm, but I'm staying for ++👍
Lizbot (host) 7:12:08 PM
@Danosaur🦖- haha, I don't remember Slim Whitman on old UHF station ads, but I saw a lot of those and can 100% picture that! I also like to play Gheorge Zamfir sometimes on air and he had an old low-budget UHF ad back then calling him the "master of the Romanian pan-flute"!
Lizbot (host) 7:12:43 PM
Hi TAndy!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:26 PM
@TAndy - Happy to have you along for the ride, hopefully staying warm and dry from the storm!
Danosaur🦖 7:14:19 PM
@Lizbot - I definitely remember Zamfir and the pan flute albums
Lizbot (host) 7:14:25 PM
@Danosaur - Same!
Lizbot (host) 7:14:57 PM
@Danosaur🦖 (Same referring to the fuzztone, but Zamfir too)!
Danosaur🦖 7:15:32 PM
This Momus song is cool
Lizbot (host) 7:15:50 PM
@Ted - Ah, okay I DO need to check this movie out for sure. SOunds like it has to be reserved for a certain mood, but I do like a good absurdist horror-comedy and that is the vibe I'm getting from the descriptions
Lizbot (host) 7:16:50 PM
The Royal Meteorologists in this SImon Bookish song have a lot to answer for!
Danosaur🦖 7:17:46 PM
Appropriate song given the present weather in your area
Amy Lee 7:18:43 PM
Hi Lizbot. Happy to tune in
Lizbot (host) 7:18:56 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I love Momus, both musically and lyrically always engaging and unique. I've seen him live a few times over the past three decades, but not in a long time. WHen he came to Old City, Philly's now-defunct (as a venue) Khyber when touring for his Folktronica album in the early 2000s his laptop died mid-set, and he just went to the bar and had a drink and we chatted. he charged it for about 20 minutes and then resumed the show. Seemed unbothered!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:01 PM
Hi Amy Lee!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:13 PM
@Amy Lee - Happy to see you here!
Ossy 7:21:23 PM
Liz- you'll enjoy those games lot
TAndy 7:21:26 PM
Warm! I opened the window and I could FEEL the difference. Finally some cooler days ahead of us
Ossy 7:21:50 PM
As well midway arcade games
Number 6 7:23:01 PM
Greetings! I was at the WPRB to do down near ESP.
Lizbot (host) 7:23:39 PM
Hi Number 6!
Danosaur🦖 7:23:52 PM
@Lizbot - Wow! Momus sounds pretty chill
Lizbot (host) 7:24:17 PM
@Number 6 - That record store is a couple of blocks from my old house in Fairmount neighborhood, but it didn't exist when I lived there
Lizbot (host) 7:24:28 PM
@Ossy - I believe I would!
Number 6 7:24:39 PM
I was listening to your show on the way home, and then I had to sit in the car for 10-15 min. in my driveway until the deluge passed.
Lizbot (host) 7:24:53 PM
@TAndy - Oh yes, but I need there to be significantly drier weather for my weekend plans!
Lizbot (host) 7:25:23 PM
@NUmber 6 - Yikes!
Number 6 7:26:57 PM
I wanted to go into ESP, but it was closing by the time that I got out of the store.
Ted 7:28:10 PM
Watch the Spotlight Dance scene on YouTube. Chiptunes meet an outrageous prosthetic penis. You’ll soon discover whether it’s up your alley!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:28:41 PM
Cassowary are deadly!
Danosaur🦖 7:29:30 PM
Big birds - no thanks Big Bird - yes, please
Number 6 7:31:01 PM
At Burger King they sometimes show a video of people feeding the EMUs at one of those farms.
Danosaur🦖 7:31:19 PM
Wow! Eating all those nachos and fries has made those beach gulls strong or maybe tis' the cigarette butts
Amy Lee 7:33:07 PM
My evening listening+engagement has taken a hit this summer. Blame the cicadas.
Tyler B. 7:34:58 PM
Omg I just left the wprb event at records forever what a fun time!
Lizbot (host) 7:35:54 PM
Hi Tyler B.! Glad it was fun! Did you see Mike and Dana?
Lizbot (host) 7:36:24 PM
@Amy Lee - Ah, darn those cicadas...nah, I love their sounds!
Lizbot (host) 7:37:10 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - The big'uns with the gray and white plumage and yellow with red spot beaks are huge and they mean business!!
Tyler B. 7:38:07 PM
I did! And Mishka, and Robin, and listener Chris, Robin and some others!
Tyler B. 7:38:40 PM
I hope there are lots more wprb live events coming up. These have been such a joy
Lizbot (host) 7:38:55 PM
@Number 6 - I have an excellent shirt of the dog inmate from Eastern State Penitentiary I bought about 25 years ago. A lab lived there in the 1920s to boost morale. They made up a whole backstory for the inmates about how he was in there because of sausage theft or something!
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:39:38 PM
I’m so glad I was able to tune in tonight, this show has been stellar!
Lizbot (host) 7:39:43 PM
@Number 6 - Very soon Eastern State Penitentiary will be all lit up for their haunted house attraction, but I was never a fan of that particular event!
Ossy 7:39:54 PM
Cassawories are scary
Lizbot (host) 7:39:58 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Thanks! I'm glad you're here!
Ossy 7:40:20 PM
Plus what was that setbreak music
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:40:35 PM
I got some behind the scenes tours of ESP when friends worked there.
Lizbot (host) 7:43:28 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - ah yeah. Jay Schwartz of The Secret Cinema used to screen old 35mm films inside ESP. That was fun! I was never a fun of the haunted penitentiary thing, though. It drew too many drunk frat types to my neighborhood and was very pricey and kinda eh. I had a few friends 20 years ago work as haunted house ghouls for the company that put together that haunted house and they were pretty aggrieved working there!
Lizbot (host) 7:43:48 PM
@Ossy - Cassowaries are freakin terrifying, it's true! Nightmare birds!
Danosaur🦖 7:47:07 PM
@Lizbot - nobody wants an aggrieved ghoul
Lizbot (host) 7:47:36 PM
@Ossy - The last setbreak? the music was 7FO (pronounced nana-F-O), an anonymous Osaka-based electronic music producer. I really like their stuff
Lizbot (host) 7:47:54 PM
@Danosaur🦖 - True. Those are the angriest ghouls!
Ossy 7:49:08 PM
Totally and thanks
Lizbot (host) 7:49:19 PM
@Ossy - You're welcome!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:51 PM
@Tyler B. - Oh nice! I wish I could've been there, but then I wouldn't have been able to be here broadcasting!
Ossy 7:50:08 PM
Sounds like something of Earthbound Nintendo
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:52:45 PM
No, also not a fan of the haunted ESP sitch.
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:53:02 PM
It is, btw, completely gorgeous out now that the storm went by.
Danosaur🦖 7:54:58 PM
Thanks for another fun show. Stay safe out there!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:55:24 PM
We enjoyed your show, Lizbot! It looks like the rain is essentially over. Drive safely!
Tyler B. 7:55:29 PM
Well thank you for being on air! It could have been a dreadful ride without you. Im having a quick Zorba's before heading home. I never come down here for leisure
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:55:50 PM
And bye everyone
addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 7:56:31 PM
Later skaters!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:37 PM
@Ossy - "Earthbound Nintendo" - as opposed to a Nintendo in flight? Not familiar with that game but intrigued! Now I'm picturing the old Windows 95 "flying toaster" screensaver but it's Nintendo consoles with wings instead!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:06 PM
@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - Good to know! DOn't know what it's like outside in PRinceton RN. Curtains drawn!

Thanks Tyler B.! Oh wow, Zorba's! I haven't had their food in so long, but they used to be onee of the closest restaurants to my old house!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:16 PM
Glad you could tune in, TAndy!
