@lizbot ohmigosh tornado warning! my family and many of my friends are still in NJ (I grew up there) and the tornado warnings have been so much more frequent-- scary! it is 82 with an ocean breeze here in oceanside, lovely beach day!

@Arlene Machiavelli - Yeah, the tornado warnings and the actual tornados and "micro-bursts" are no joke and have become FAR too frequent! I only remember a few of these from childhood through to about maybe 10 years ago, then there started being maybe one or two a year. Now there a many in one month!

Chester PA-Delaware PA- 534 PM EDT Thu Aug 20 2026 ...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 600 PM EDT FOR EAST CENTRAL CHESTER AND SOUTHWESTERN DELAWARE COUNTIES... At 534 PM EDT, a severe squall line capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage was located along a line extending from near Glenmoore to near Marshallton, moving east at 45 mph. Potential HAZARD...Tornado. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

@Lizbot, I have the same memories of tornado warnings becoming more frequent. Part of the increase comes from warning about storms capable of producing tornados, rather than waiting for a tornado signature to show up on radar (or an actual sighting of a tornado)

@Lizbot - Yes, as annoying as these heatwaves have been this summer at least they are predictable unlike tornadoes

We've had straight line wind damage as well as microdownburst damage near enough to our house in the past year or two

@Danosaur🦖 - Heatwaves do really stink, but I'd rather drive an hour in one of those than in straight-line wind and heavy rain

All I know is I did a double-long show, Mike Hunter made it in after me, so I did 5-11 pm, he made it in before the tornado, then the storm picked up shortly after he arrived, so I stayed and hung out during his whole show, during which a bunch of Princeton students were sent to our basement to shelter in place

I was a solitary weird kid in high school. Moving twice while during that period (military father) did not help matters

Yeah, I went to a bit of sports-oriented preppy high school so I did not relate to 90% of the students, but it was thankfully a big enough school to have arts kids. I was an "art major" (we had to choose majors in my high school, weirdly.) and they let me do my senior project on symbolism in Irish folklore films and how they incorporated modern Irish Troubles (This was a couple years before the Good Friday Agreement!)

@Ossy - I never played Kirby when it came out because my pet German mini-lop rabbit had chewed through my NES cord by that point and my parents refused to replace it. Plus that game was I'm guessing for Super NES anyway. I never had that. I had NES from its inception until it was murdered by my bunny in 8th grade or so

@Danosaur🦖- haha, I don't remember Slim Whitman on old UHF station ads, but I saw a lot of those and can 100% picture that! I also like to play Gheorge Zamfir sometimes on air and he had an old low-budget UHF ad back then calling him the "master of the Romanian pan-flute"!

@Danosaur🦖 - Yeah, I love Momus, both musically and lyrically always engaging and unique. I've seen him live a few times over the past three decades, but not in a long time. WHen he came to Old City, Philly's now-defunct (as a venue) Khyber when touring for his Folktronica album in the early 2000s his laptop died mid-set, and he just went to the bar and had a drink and we chatted. he charged it for about 20 minutes and then resumed the show. Seemed unbothered!

@Number 6 - I have an excellent shirt of the dog inmate from Eastern State Penitentiary I bought about 25 years ago. A lab lived there in the 1920s to boost morale. They made up a whole backstory for the inmates about how he was in there because of sausage theft or something!

@addie “5 snakes” plum 🐍 - ah yeah. Jay Schwartz of The Secret Cinema used to screen old 35mm films inside ESP. That was fun! I was never a fun of the haunted penitentiary thing, though. It drew too many drunk frat types to my neighborhood and was very pricey and kinda eh. I had a few friends 20 years ago work as haunted house ghouls for the company that put together that haunted house and they were pretty aggrieved working there!

@Ossy - Cassowaries are freakin terrifying, it's true! Nightmare birds!

@Lizbot - nobody wants an aggrieved ghoul

@Ossy - The last setbreak? the music was 7FO (pronounced nana-F-O), an anonymous Osaka-based electronic music producer. I really like their stuff
