ok, so i'm studying radio, and every time someone brings up the verve's "bittersweet symphony," our current dj will look either extremely excited or pained and go "listen... bittersweet symphony is neither bangin' nor cringe nor something in between. it eludes all attempts to categorize it. we do not know what it is. some covers are immortal. some produce night-saving catharsis. some are so closely related to bubblegum music that listening to them may cause an allergic reaction against your own ears. I cannot teach you about the bittersweet symphony."

returning to an old last-minute show-planning tradition by playing a bunch of covers and reworks of b.s., interspersed with various bitter and sweet symphonies drawn from the world of video game music. maybe tonight is the night we'll figure out if b.s. is a good song or not, but i wouldn't hold your breath.

went to The Verve with an old friend who is into shoegaze and such, and I was into heavier and darker music, so it was a cool cultural exchange.

oh, that stuff is great -- had that at a Justice show once

I am reading Extra Lives by Tom Bissell, about gaming, tis well-written and interesting

i've had my eye on that one! what parts of gaming does it touch on?

Mass Effect, Resident Evil, BioWare, RPGs, Myst, it is deep. My game knowledge is wide but not deep.

oh, cool, i can kind of see the throughline there - that's an interesting path to take

all those narrative games, not as much arcade-y stuff

my claim to fame is I beat Shadow of the Colossus on an old shitty PS2, but it took me 10 years, three states, and 3 PS2s LOL
