Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:09:55 PM
I'm not sure I would go across the street to see the Phillies at this point. I'd rather do the Humpty Dance
rick hallahan 12:11:13 PM
Jerry, I agree with you. It's time for the Phils to put up or shut up!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:57 PM
Or give the money back
Patrick White 12:14:08 PM
50 years ago local entertainment options somewhat scarce. Gabor Szabo,Burning Spear ,Beverly Sills.Tracy Nelson w Mother Earth,Ian Matthew’s . Michel Legrand with Robert Goulet.
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 12:14:46 PM
LOL, @Jerry
Patrick White 12:15:57 PM
From what I’ve been reading I think the Watkins Glen crowd was bigger than Woodstock
rick hallahan 12:16:34 PM
Michel Legrand (IMHO) was a genius. His music for the original Thomas Crown Affair is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:28 PM
Phillies games are going to start looking like Watkins glenn.
Patrick White 12:18:47 PM
I remember Sid Mark always praising him when he did his Sinatra show
Mike Constantine 12:18:52 PM
Watkins Glen was bigger
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:42 PM
Was that the festival where someone was stabbed?
Patrick White 12:20:18 PM
That was Altamont . The death of Summer of Love.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:20:43 PM
Oh, the Phillies games are going to start to look like Altamont.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:21:19 PM
Christine, listen to the drummer
Patrick White 12:22:12 PM
Beware of driving in New Jersey. The police are dressing up as trees to nab cell phone users. Chief Wiggins from the Simpsons was a visionary
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 12:25:22 PM
I'm loving this percussion @Jerry! 🥰
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 12:25:51 PM
@Patrick, D'oh! 🫨
Patrick White 12:26:56 PM
Any C and W fans out there I happened to stumble upon a free Princeton concert by The Bakersfield Band. Nice persons .fine musicians. They have more free area shows.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:30:35 PM
Will anyone go to the reasonably priced art show tomorrow in Princeton?
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 12:33:06 PM
@Jerry, I was thinking about it, yep. It would mean getting up early but it would be worth it. Plus DJs Stitching Pink and Erin from 6 Layer Cake 🎂 will be there playing music.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:05 PM
That whole event sounds like alot of fun. If the weather is nice, it will be the perfect day!
Elias Throckmorton 12:36:59 PM
Listening to Stitching Pink inspired me to look for my old knitting needles.

Mike Constantine 12:45:35 PM

I have a wind up toy. I keep it on my sideboard Her Clown Hat keeps falling off her pretty head. BUT- my clown shoes have elevated heels. Seriously i do have a wind up toy that plays that tune next to my bed.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:20:04 PM
Hey Ossy, I like your assessment! Thanks for tuning in!
rick hallahan 1:27:17 PM
Wow! The Metropole Orchestra is truly world-class! Now I know why I enjoyed that arrangement of "Send in the Clowns".
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 1:27:47 PM
Hi, Ossy!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:31:34 PM
I agree, Rick. It made the song for me. But someone said it sounded too much like a show tune.
Russell Woessner 1:31:46 PM
Listening while driving around in Vermont is challenging! Lots of dropouts and dead zones. I guess I will have to get a Starlink connection next time! Sounds like a good show that I am hearing bits and bytes of.
Ossy 1:32:31 PM
And hi Christine, to this angelic bliss song

HI Friends, I retired 3 weeks ago and my schedule doesn't have me at my desk for hours at a time. I will check in but fear my regular participation with you all may be a bit less regular. I am ever so grateful for Jerry, his musical selections, and you regular folks on the chat who make this feel like a friendly place with warm people.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:12 PM
VC, get back to work! We miss you!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:36 PM
Nah, that's too selfish. But don't forget us! Thanks VC!
Mike Constantine 1:41:20 PM
Enjoy it, VC
vildachaya1 1:41:43 PM
I caught Howard Levy at Black squirrel in Philly this week. He played keys and harmonica with the Flecktones. Really nice show. He did a harmonica solo at the end that was astonishing.
vildachaya1 1:43:00 PM
Thanks for the good words. I will be figuring out more of a 'schedule' over time. Right now there is a lot o f grandkid energy and that's fun.
vildachaya1 1:44:18 PM
I am still listening - just not at the desk - I did figure out I can text from my phone...but probably shouldn't do that while driving ;-)
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 1:44:57 PM
That sounds like a fantastic show, @vildachaya
Dá Bəng Gôu 1:45:44 PM

rick hallahan 1:46:40 PM
VC, retirement IS all it's claimed to be. Very enjoyable, so enjoy your retirement!
vildachaya1 1:47:03 PM
Black Squirrel is nifty venue but no AC... it was ok the other night but I imagine can get pretty warm.
vildachaya1 1:49:53 PM
@Rick - I spent the morning throwing rocks in the creek with a 1 1/2 year old. Slowing down the pace will take some learning...I did see live music Sunday, Tues, Wednesday, and Thursday night this week and seeing Magic tonight in Glenside. (The magic club there is really fun) I will do my best to keep this group of friends into my schedule whenever possible.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:50:27 PM
Nice you have that active Grandpa energy and are keeping up with kids. You planned it perfectly. I'm waiting for the new album
vildachaya1 1:51:46 PM
First song title: Jump the Mechitza - We had an idea for a parody album where if you get the jokes, you'd be offended.
Christine 𓅓𓅥 𓅊 1:52:02 PM
Has anyone else been to the Black Squirrel and if so, how did you like the venue? I'll go last.
Mike Constantine 1:52:08 PM
I mean to check out the Magic Club some time
rick hallahan 1:53:53 PM
A clarinet warbling - so nice!
vildachaya1 1:54:14 PM
The Mechitza is the divider between Men and Women at orthodox synagogues. The lyrics are about a young man praying and although he can't see the women... he smells someone's perfume. He gets worked up into such a lather he Jumps the Mechitza
Elias Throckmorton 1:55:30 PM
Is that Moody Allen?
Mike Constantine 1:55:45 PM
Jumps the Mechitza could be right up there with Jumps the Shark
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:56:18 PM

Jerry You mentioned the radio station of my youth, WABC New York. Dan Ingram was my man!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:28:04 PM
Hi Sean! Golden! Lucky you! Where were you living?
sean burns 2:28:28 PM
I had picked up a stack of the old wfil or WMCA top 50 handouts. Record stores that carried 45s and stores like Sears that had them would have a new one each week. It's quite interesting, Philadelphia was listening to a lot more soul music than New York was on ABC
sean burns 2:29:01 PM
You probably know the sheets I mean, it would list the top 50 in their previous position, with a bullet if expected to get hot...
sean burns 2:29:16 PM

Mike Constantine 2:29:40 PM
WABC came in loud and clear in Philly....the 50k watt flamethrower
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:30:10 PM
Sean, I still have ALL by WIBG sheets from 1964 to 1966. For me, they are religious documents like the Torah
sean burns 2:30:12 PM
I still remember the jingle of course and even the jingles for some of the DJs
Amy Lee 2:30:24 PM
Hi Jerry & very prolific chat. @Patrick White - love C & W esp the Bakersfield sound so thx for sharing.
Mike Constantine 2:30:38 PM
Those PAMS jingles
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:30:50 PM
Hi Amy
sean burns 2:31:02 PM
We used to sleep out in the backyard during the summer, listening to WABC late at night. There were more oldies played then and less commercials, I was 12 in 1966 and that opened my ears to all the stuff earlier
Mike Constantine 2:31:39 PM
12 in 66 here too
sean burns 2:31:39 PM
It was a golden age
sean burns 2:31:55 PM
Mike Constantine will bear witness to that!

Tomorrow begins August …. Or as Junior refers to it….The Glory Days!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:37:47 PM
Junior had a big summer romance that summer.
sean burns 2:38:09 PM
It was interesting in 1966, well before the spread of the radio monopolies. There were regional hits and top 10 lists varied from place to place. Much more diversity in what was played
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:30 PM
So so true
Patrick White 2:38:38 PM
Growing up in 60s / early 70 s Philadelphia was very narrow mindset, parochial area. Tuning into to those powerful
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:58 PM
The Critters of NJ!
Patrick White 2:39:02 PM
Radio stations was like hearing from another planet.

I remember as a Mets fan, if I were in the Philadelphia area I would listen to the game and these DJs would just keep talking smack about New York
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:39:54 PM
Mr. Dieingly Sad
sean burns 2:39:59 PM
And when you you tuned in to the New York broadcast of the games they never mentioned Philadelphia at all!
rick hallahan 2:40:29 PM

My greatest memory as a kid with his radio while in bed was the night I picked up station KOA in Denver (for a very short time). I was never able to tune it in a 2nd time after that.
Patrick White 2:46:08 PM
