i've been using 100wt invisafil to do needleturn applique!

In a pinch, use your phone cameras (or tablet) zoom for reading glasses

What size needle do you use for that?

The glasses kind of work - just missing one arm lol

ummm i don't know what size needle i've been using. i have 2093480548 unclassified needles around so i just use what feels good and right

haha! Me too! I keep thinking I will make one of those nifty needlebooks with labels for needle sizes but we both know that will never happen. ;)

i do have a nice needle book i got from alabama chanin/the school of making that helps you organize them, but i don't really know if my organization is correct

I do not follow instructions well. Would it make things easier - heck yeah.. exponentially. Through experience, trial & error, etc I know the type of needle & thread I prefer to use & how it works w/whatever I'm sewing. And prob why I gravitate toward hand sewing.

Hand sewing is very relaxing. And it's nice to really feel connected to what you are making

i use woolly nylon in my bobbin for sewing with knits. really nice for the stretchiness.

Regarding sourcing & reuse, like that you are discussing & sharing old thread for sewing in terms of reuse, etc.

Warning I mean

I don't like to discourage the use of old thread but I think it's risky!

i still have hundreds of skeins of needlepoint and embroidery threads from a "scholarship" i got in 2007. i should maybe redistribute some of that. probably fine since it's not for construction

a lady that graduated from my college in the 70s and was a needlepoint artist sent the fibers department five long file boxes filled with approximately $4000 in threads apiece. there were maybe 12 of us in the department so we voted for the recipients, and i got one. it's WILD.

Let's discuss...

she had organized it all into ziploc bags that were labeled by the thread fiber, mostly organized by brand or color, and printed out a corresponding spreadsheet with information and value.
