Hello
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:11:52 PM
Hello
Tim (host) 3:12:19 PM
hey rob from amry land how goes it ... id thought you d be ut birdwatching today - its pretty nice
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:17:56 PM
Hi Tim, I was out in the morning, looking for the American White Pelican that I missed yesterday https://ebird.org/checklist/S376281432?view=photos. (Not my photos)
Tim (host) 3:18:35 PM
aha - ithought you woukd be out there and i was right -- did you see one this morning ?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:19:10 PM
It was a nice nice day, and still is. But there were a couple of things I/we had to do at home. And now I think I need to lay my head down
Tim (host) 3:19:28 PM
nothiog wrong with an afternnon nap in the summer --
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:19:47 PM
Oh, yes, I did see it this morning. It was pretty distant, standing on a mudflat. I missed it flying around
Tim (host) 3:20:08 PM
well it still counts
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:21:21 PM
Oh, it does count! The last ones I saw were in Texas almost ten years ago. They are very local in Maryland
G Jax 3:25:11 PM
Ha high school about 1980 this one. Keggers in the woods.
G Jax 3:25:30 PM
Probably close to 19 years old at that point
G Jax 3:25:36 PM
10
Tim (host) 3:26:03 PM
yup - i remember the keggers in the woods---
Tim (host) 3:26:11 PM
and then the cops would come
G Jax 3:26:14 PM
No new prog stuff coming out in 1980 so the prog heads had to look back
Tim (host) 3:26:51 PM
from the movie dazed and confused-- when the party? -- 9pm --9 pm ill be there maan... ( keg party ensues )
G Jax 3:27:06 PM
Cops half hearted chasing us. The hotter chicks would flirt with them too.
Tim (host) 3:27:10 PM
yeah 1980 was not a good year from prog
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:27:21 PM
@Tim, I just noticed the name for today's show. BURNNNN
G Jax 3:27:31 PM
Nope
Tim (host) 3:27:33 PM
haaaaaa. ...
G Jax 3:28:33 PM
Dazed and Confused is pretty accurate in a lot of ways. Not al”
G Jax 3:29:03 PM
Though older kids beating on the younger ones not so much
Tim (host) 3:29:05 PM
yeah -- gerat movie
Tim (host) 3:29:27 PM
yeah - i didnt have that - but do remamber kids wearing overals with no shirts in the spring in like 77
Rob from Maryland 🦀 3:33:32 PM
Nap time, bye Tim and G Jax. I hope to return
Tim (host) 3:33:59 PM
ok cya ---
David Shortell 3:35:02 PM
"Dazed and Confused" never became the revered period film that "American Graffiti" is.
Tim (host) 3:35:37 PM
umm kinda not - morea of a cilt hit and didnt take off when it was relased .. but jsut as ggood i think -- i
Tim (host) 3:35:46 PM
both movies are killer
Tim (host) 3:36:07 PM
they seem to kinda have stopped making cool teencoming of age movies --
Tim (host) 3:36:26 PM
we need a new john hughes
David Shortell 3:41:08 PM
"Welcome to the Dollhouse" remains my favorite.
Tim (host) 3:42:43 PM
i havent seen that one- its good?
Tim (host) 3:42:53 PM
came out in the ninties?
David Shortell 3:50:12 PM
It's brutal. https://imdb.com/title/tt0114906/
G Jax 3:50:25 PM
Had to run out. Looked back at the comments. Dazed And Confused was like my America Graffitti but yeah more of a cult hit
Tim (host) 3:51:36 PM
yeah kinda the same movie diffrent time periods
David Shortell 3:53:16 PM
It concerns kids in junior high. "The age when evil begins", I recall the director Todd Solondz said. The original working title was "Faggots and Retards".
G Jax 3:53:20 PM
I woulda been about a year younger than the kids getting their asses kicked but I remember that time well. Yeah the overalls with no shirt was a cool look. I never did it though. I love the 70s. People cut on the fashion but I dig it
Tim (host) 3:53:40 PM
@david yeah that director is friggin right --hti thenail on the head
G Jax 3:53:54 PM
It was high school not jr high
Tim (host) 3:54:23 PM
@ g jax - i love the fasion too -- frig it to tell ya the truth i still wear bell bottoms
Tim (host) 3:54:37 PM
fu*k those facist straight leg jeans
G Jax 3:55:10 PM
Actually the TV show Freaks and Geeks was far more accurate for the time depucted
Tim (host) 3:55:28 PM
i nver saw that but i heard it was really good
G Jax 3:57:01 PM
Except for some major missteps. Mainly about the music. But other than that the show was pretty acvurate
Tim (host) 3:57:27 PM
yeah i really shoud check it out ..
David Shortell 4:01:29 PM
The movie's protagonist Dawn Weiner is said to have committed suicide in Solondz's subsequent movie "Palindromes". The more recent Solondz film "Weiner-Dog" contradicts this by showing Dawn (now played by Greta Gerwig) alive and working as a vet.
Tim (host) 4:02:15 PM
yeah i like the vet endinhg better---- resilience!
G Jax 4:02:19 PM
Solidarity on the bell bottoms brother. Well the look bell-ish. Levi’s 527s
Tim (host) 4:02:53 PM
oh no i wear friggi straight up bell bottome - heave to buy them form plave in england
G Jax 4:03:32 PM
Also 517s which are bout cut. Yeah NEVER straight leg
Tim (host) 4:03:46 PM
yup NEVER straight leg!
G Jax 4:03:48 PM
Wow really?
Tim (host) 4:04:08 PM
yep on. the internet
G Jax 4:04:13 PM
They on Amazon?
Tim (host) 4:04:29 PM
nope if ya tyoe in bell bottoms youll findem
Tim (host) 4:04:40 PM
on internet
G Jax 4:04:50 PM
527s will get you in the ball park tho
G Jax 4:05:14 PM
Thing I ran into buying so
G Jax 4:06:04 PM
Some off brand stuff was they just came in like small medium and large but not actual waist and length sizez
G Jax 4:06:39 PM
I got some cool plaid punk r
G Jax 4:07:07 PM
Rock look pants. Size worked out on them
G Jax 4:09:14 PM
Sorry I keep hitting ‘enter’ by accident. Takes like 5 separate times to complete one thought. I hate typing on a phone
Tim (host) 4:10:35 PM
no probemi get the thought
G Jax 4:20:37 PM
What’s that from? Sounds familiar. I’m terrible with movie lines. Is that from MORE American Graffitti? Christopher he’s being pretty good wow he’s actually not barking his head off. I know well today at the farmers market. A dog came over and went after him and nobody saw that but they saw his reaction. He went wrong and narrow at of course everybody’s looking to be like I got the mean dog, and it was the old dog and went after right right all right have a good one.
G Jax 4:20:51 PM
Shit sorry
Tim (host) 4:21:15 PM
no biggie--
G Jax 4:21:28 PM
Caught conversation with the neighbor. I started to say….eh I forget
Tim (host) 4:21:35 PM
sound bite from montery pop movie
G Jax 4:22:21 PM
Ok I saw that too
Tim (host) 4:23:05 PM
that good moive - montery pop was the real woodstock groovier and wellorganixed
G Jax 4:23:08 PM
Haven’t in a while though. It’s on me list..
G Jax 4:24:14 PM
Woodstock the movie is rather disappointing
Tim (host) 4:24:55 PM
i like it -- thought it was good - man rhino realesed every tape they had entire fetival - i may buy it some day maybe not the whole festival reacoring
G Jax 4:27:34 PM
I dunno the split screen stuff it just was unappealing to me.Monterrey might even be the same way. I haven’t seen it in so long. I just remember having a better feeling about that one
G Jax 4:28:15 PM
Maybe I just appreciated the lack of mud
Tim (host) 4:28:31 PM
yeah iliked them both - i was cool with the split screen -- trippy cool different very sixties
Tim (host) 4:29:27 PM
yeah montery ws a the way better fetival - most of the goo woodstock acts were playing at 3 am 4 am 5 am - yessh i mean i gues if yur eighteen ya dont care
G Jax 4:30:44 PM
Just looked too high school film production class. Don’t get me wrong though. I did like it. It’s Woodstock after all. I think I gotta watch that one again too. On me list part deux
Tim (host) 4:31:35 PM
oh dude--! you shoukd check out buildng woodstock on youtube-- from the organizers point of view annd what they did to put it together
Tim (host) 4:32:12 PM
definatley check that it out its pretty cool
G Jax 4:33:40 PM
Would one put Gimme Shelter in as the third in sort of a trilogy of the time? I might..
Tim (host) 4:34:08 PM
yeah - its the bummer movie - not that into it caus e the fun is over ...
G Jax 4:34:24 PM
Li know there are others Fedtival Ecprezs for instance. But those three are the big three
G Jax 4:34:51 PM
I agree with you point there
Tim (host) 4:35:17 PM
oh yeah i saw that a whie ago but dont really remmeber - man there were tones of little festival across the county if ya check youtube - they all the little fims of ever big.; little festical of 1970 etc
G Jax 4:36:07 PM
Yes. A better time for sure. Music was everywhere
Tim (host) 4:36:55 PM
yeah - qualtiy ws way cooler - btu the older generationalways says that - but its kinda true
G Jax 4:39:18 PM
Well I can say this. What came before me was cooler than what I experienced but what I experience was better than what came after me. And what the kids have today in the way of entertainment and music in particular is absolute rubbish.
Tim (host) 4:39:46 PM
agreed- christ ther are no teen movies summer bloackbuster or bands for them
Roffleaphonic 4:39:53 PM
Does this weirdo DJ even have a time slot?
Roffleaphonic 4:40:28 PM
Asking for a friend...
Tim (host) 4:42:10 PM
whaaa?
G Jax 4:43:19 PM
Well I would want to actually be 10 years older than what I am now. Jeez I’m old enough. But those 10 to 15 years older than me hit the pinnacle. Just slightly to young to be drafted to go to Viet Nam but old enough to def all the great band (well most of them) in their heyday
Roffleaphonic 4:49:53 PM
LOL... Love the subs...
Roffleaphonic 4:58:44 PM
Excellent cover!
Tim (host) 4:59:12 PM
yup lighthouse was a good band --- i think there were like eighteen people in the band
Tim (host) 4:59:33 PM
maybe a little less then that...
Roffleaphonic 5:01:55 PM
Eighteen people take up a lot of slack.
Roffleaphonic 5:03:12 PM
The whole point of orchestra.
Roffleaphonic 5:03:50 PM
Noise drowning like a mix board.
Roffleaphonic 5:07:57 PM
If you sit for tune ups in orchestra, you know. Shut them up and let them loose .
Tim (host) 5:10:14 PM
duly noted
Roffleaphonic 5:13:06 PM
Man, around my ass to get to my elbow to make my dopey point. Wake and bake dude.
Tim (host) 5:13:17 PM
lol !
Roffleaphonic 5:15:28 PM
Such fun. Thanks for setting that up.
G Jax 5:15:38 PM
That wake and bake bit sounded like it coulda been the same dudes who did the Duane Stomp PSA. Ever hear that?
Tim (host) 5:15:53 PM
no -- i never ehard that one
G Jax 5:16:30 PM
https://youtu.be/C8ssRWtafp8?si=O2QzYShMpEvrJAoG
Roffleaphonic 5:16:57 PM
No, but that's got my ear G
G Jax 5:17:39 PM
Used to play on the rock stations in Baltimore.least that where I heard it. Early 90s I’m thinking
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:17:42 PM
Hello, I'm back
Tim (host) 5:17:59 PM
hey rob how was the nap
Tim (host) 5:18:31 PM
got it - ill check it out - did you ever listen to 98 rock - i sued to live in that area
Roffleaphonic 5:18:45 PM
The "Wake and bake" station check is my favorite.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:19:10 PM
It was nice. I woke up like 40 minutes ago and was doing other stuff. Wasn't waking and baking
Tim (host) 5:19:12 PM
mine too//...
Tim (host) 5:19:21 PM
lol
G Jax 5:19:35 PM
Yep and The Underground. I didn’t live there but had friends that did. Hung out a lot. Way better than WMMR and WYSP
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:19:36 PM
98 Rock was my favorite DC radio station even though it came from Baltimore
Tim (host) 5:19:39 PM
sometimes ya just need a good nap
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:19:51 PM
That's where I first heard The Cars
Tim (host) 5:20:04 PM
oh yeah reamember coredth and lopez and noontiem nugget-- yeeesh that taakes me way back ....
Roffleaphonic 5:21:10 PM
Sleep be my friend, until I am tired of sleep! You?
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:21:29 PM
But by the time the Duane Stomp PSA came out I was totally into WHFS (alternative from Annapolis) and WMUC (U MD College Park station)
G Jax 5:24:23 PM
I remember a metal station called The Undegroung. I don’t think it was a college station but it was I think up about 103 on the dial. Great station. So was 98 rock. Philly radio at that time had gone all Morning Zoo and real bland music. No metal. Which is what I wanted to hear at that point in my life. I’m better now. Haha
Roffleaphonic 5:25:35 PM
I wonder why people dream. We have a lot of shit on the waking table already.
Tim (host) 5:25:39 PM
yeesh yeah im way over metal - juda priest kinda seem silly now
Tim (host) 5:26:57 PM
I gooled it but the da thing wont let me cut and paste h
G Jax 5:27:02 PM
It was actually a good thing though did MMR and YP were so lame. It’s how I discovered college radio. I used to have a job where I had to drive all day around the city and so I happened upon WKDU. Which was absolutely fantastic in those days. Pretty much unlistenable now sadly and it’s been that way for quite some time. I don’t know what happened to him.
Tim (host) 5:27:03 PM
basically they dont know
Tim (host) 5:27:35 PM
yeah i heard wkdu -- i think they have a really small signal
Roffleaphonic 5:28:07 PM
The house? First song Americans with a guitar in the closet learned,
G Jax 5:28:20 PM
I’m close enough to catch it where I live. I just don’t want to. It’s really bad anymore.
Tim (host) 5:28:41 PM
yeah i havent heard it in a while
David Shortell 5:43:37 PM
I switched stations after 4 and missed the double dose of Dutch raga!
Tim (host) 5:43:58 PM
welp i hope you learned your lesson!
Tim (host) 5:44:58 PM
you were listening to nprs hot newshow - button collecting - is it for you? werent you
Roffleaphonic 5:48:51 PM
That is the smartest thing Today! Hmmm
Tim (host) 5:49:21 PM
@ roffle yu can start the podcast for the button collecting set
Roffleaphonic 5:49:39 PM
From my little window
Tim (host) 5:50:07 PM
tahts usually how its done --- as far as know
Roffleaphonic 5:50:55 PM
We are here until otherwise for sure.
David Shortell 5:51:27 PM
Actually, I tuned into another NJ station's interview with former child actor Bill Mumy.
Tim (host) 5:51:52 PM
oh no demeirts your excused - that sounds good
David Shortell 5:59:00 PM
The Carpenters sang the theme to the 1971 movie "Bless the Beasts and Children", starring Bill Mumy.
Roffleaphonic 6:00:29 PM
I got a job offer from the manager of WNBC radio (Bob Sherman) to run cables in sound rooms at 30 Rock because of the commute from Jersey, I took a pass.. That was dopey on my part.
Tim (host) 6:01:17 PM
cya have a good one
Roffleaphonic 6:01:48 PM
Bye
