Hello! It's Lizbot subbing for Tis!
TAndy 3:02:35 PM
Heck yeah Lizbot in the house!!!!!
Lizbot (host) 3:04:37 PM
Hey TAndy!
Lizbot (host) 3:07:13 PM
The title of today's show is "Bot It Is, with Liz!"
Lizbot (host) 3:08:18 PM
@TAndy - Between college searches with my rising high school senior and visiting a sick relative in Spokane, I missed the station and was happy to jump on this sub for Tis!
michael gudgeon 3:13:59 PM
omg kidbots a senior! sup Lizbot, sup tandy!
Lizbot (host) 3:14:50 PM
Hello michael gudgeon! Yup, she's practically a lonebot out in the wide world!
Marcus Watt 3:16:52 PM
Gary Numan is slightly older than Gary Oldman.
Lizbot (host) 3:18:22 PM
Hi Marcus Watt!
Lizbot (host) 3:19:37 PM
@Marcus Watt - Garys defy logic!
Lizbot (host) 3:21:18 PM
@Marcus Watt - To further disrupt the time-space continuum, Gary Young of Pavement is dead
Rob Nagle 3:22:49 PM
It is bot it is!
Lizbot (host) 3:23:44 PM
Hi Rob Nagle! 'Tis not Tis!
Lizbot (host) 3:25:09 PM
I Was Not Was Tis. 'Tis Liz!
TAndy 3:33:38 PM
I'll be traveling across the land later this week too, Liz! Heading with my old man to his hometown in Guatemala so I can meet the family :)
TAndy 3:34:09 PM
My nephew is coming too, and he just graduated! I completely forgot how long the process is, I remember being so nervous during my graduation LOL
Lizbot (host) 3:34:33 PM
@TAndy - Oh wow, that sounds amazing!
Lizbot (host) 3:35:19 PM
@TAndy - My high school made us run through graduation rehearsal SO many times, I felt like that's all we did the entire last month of senior year!
Marcus Watt 3:36:09 PM
Please try to find Carla and Karen on an episode of Night Music from 1989.
Lizbot (host) 3:36:27 PM
@TAndy - Have you been to Guatemala before? I got to see cousins in Washington State I hadn't seen in decades this past week. Both live in Seattle now but made the trek to Spokane to meet up
TAndy 3:37:17 PM
I've never been yet! I bet I'll have as much of a good time that you probably had out in Spokane! Such a beautiful area, the PNW.
Lizbot (host) 3:37:25 PM
@Marcus Watt - Oh wow, I am writing that down!
Lizbot (host) 3:37:43 PM
@Marcus Watt - I see it! Bookmarking for later!
Justin Szeliga 3:39:04 PM
TizLizBot?
Lizbot (host) 3:39:17 PM
@TAndy - I am so jealous of the Pacific Northwest's [or in the case of Spokane, the Inland Pacific Northwest's] climate. We had no humidity the whole time! Perfectly dry sunny days!
TAndy 3:39:23 PM
We'll be out in the country, so a pretty similar vibe to if I went to stay somewhere up in Warren or Sussex counties, or just outside Spokane haha
Lizbot (host) 3:39:24 PM
Hi Justin Szeliga!
Lizbot (host) 3:39:44 PM
@Justin Szeliga - 'Tis! Here subbing for Tis until 5!
Lizbot (host) 3:40:10 PM
@Justin Szeliga - 'Tis Bot!
TAndy 3:41:52 PM
I looked at the place on Maps to see the geography, INSANE how it sits right between a bunch of wetlands and the mountains. Such a unique place
Lizbot (host) 3:47:23 PM
@TAndy - The place in Guatemala? Sounds incredible! The closest I've been is Quintana Roo, Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula. Went to a few towns arounds there. It was beautiful! Saw Mayan pyramids. Swam and had incredible fruit! Also saw a coatimundis!
TAndy 3:48:28 PM
Oh I meant Spokane!
TAndy 3:49:24 PM
We may head to the highlands the next time we visit, I really want to go to Tikal, though it's a VERY long way even from the city.
Lizbot (host) 3:49:35 PM
@TAndy - Spokane is very beautiful! I mostly remembered the huge evergreens everywhere, it had been so long. I forgot about the waterfalls right in the center of downtown/Riverfront Park where the 1974 World's Fair took place!
Lizbot (host) 3:50:22 PM
@TAndy - How hard it is to get around? I looked into traveling farther inland in the Yucatan, but roads were tricky, so that adds a lot of time
Lizbot (host) 3:51:49 PM
@TAndy - In Costa Rica back in 2019 we did cover a lot of the country, but we gave ourselves a lot of time. We made it down to the Pacific coast in the southern tip of the Osa Peninsula to visit my sister-in-law, who lived in Carate at the time
TAndy 3:54:24 PM
It looks like a 10-12 hour ride from the city to Tikal. One way cuts ciredtly through the mountains on a narrow road and another goes to the coast and bypasses most mountain roads, all country 2-lane highway not unlike 206 here.
TAndy 3:55:08 PM
I also saw "Jundt Art Museum" on Spokane Maps for a split second and got excited thinking it said JUNK museum. Old junk museums are awesome lol
Lizbot (host) 3:59:56 PM
@TAndy - Coastal sounds potentially more scenic and maybe less nerve-wracking! Then again, I suppose that road could also have steep sea-cliff drops! There were some pretty scary roads in Costa Rica! I think the scariest I've been on, though, is still the Road to Hana, Maui. There is a car junkyard from all the cars that went off the cliff and they couldn't tow away!
TAndy 4:02:55 PM
Think about it this way. Eventually enough junked cars will be left for the cliff to no longer be a danger :^)
TAndy 4:03:59 PM
Oh, it's only 6 hours from my dad's hometown. That's better lol
Lizbot (host) 4:05:50 PM
@TAndy - Agree! I love junk art! Of course Philly's most famous is Isaiah Zagar's Magic Gardens. Other ones I've been to: Randyland in Pittsburgh, Watt Towers in L.A., Cathedral of Junk in Austin - There have got to be more I've seen, I always seek stuff like that out, but those are the first ones that pop to mind!
Lizbot (host) 4:07:26 PM
@TAndy - haha, too much cliff for that! They always tow 'em to this dirt lot on the side of the road, I wish it was on the cliffside, but its inland from that! The road to Hana is the width of one car and it's two-way, so someone is always having to back up very very slowly
TAndy 4:07:59 PM
Hoping to visit Pittsburgh next summer! Preexisting plans prevented me from finally going this year.
Lizbot (host) 4:09:24 PM
@TAndy - 10-12 hour drive is no joke! I drove on highways in Costa Rica, Mexico and more rural parts of PR and VI, but inland can be pretty dicey road-wise. Not a lot of paved roads
TAndy 4:13:09 PM
It looks like that for the most part in Guatemala too. Only the major arterial highways coming from the city seem to be paved.
Lizbot (host) 4:13:15 PM
@TAndy - Those Costa Rican dirt roads flood badly in the rainy season. I made sure to go in the dry season! I imagine there's a rainy season in Guatemala as well? Some of the dirt roads in CR just turn into rivers and are a different shape when they dry out!
TAndy 4:17:08 PM
It is the rainy season now, but the rains seem to be focused mostly on the northern part of the country. The weather pattern in his town seems similar to ours: Dry, sometimes overcast and always humid with bursts of rain for a couple of days at a time.
Lizbot (host) 4:22:47 PM
@TAndy - Bursts of rain sounds about right for that part of the world! We got a lot of humidity in the rainforest, of course. Not a ton of rain while we were there. It was late March 2019.
TAndy 4:24:35 PM
The road out front from my father's property does flood during heavy rain, but never encroaching much on the property. It's just a gravel road in the woods with a ditch to the side. Again, like if I just went to chill in NNJ lol just no Wawas in sight. Not even a Sh**tz :(
Lizbot (host) 4:31:05 PM
@TAndy - haha, yeah, I appreciate you censoring "Sh88tz"! We don't need that Sh88t in Wawa Country! I passed a few Sh**tz during my Ohio roadtrip a couple weeks ago, but I just drove right on by!
TAndy 4:34:02 PM
Hahaha! I remembered from our last chat. There's a special comedy in text-censoring innocuous nouns that I'm always happy to contribute to.
TAndy 4:34:23 PM
What's the consensus on Quick Chek and Royal Farms?
Lizbot (host) 4:34:28 PM
@TAndy - At least there's gravel for traction! I'd straight up slide back down the hill on the crazy steep streets in the hills up past the town of Uvita, CR! Downtown was fine. Got myself some Mama Toucan's lunch. Then tried to drive up to my cabin. NOPE. FOund a local cabbie instead! That ish was BONKERS. Gunning the gas the whole time to not slide rapidly backwards!
Lizbot (host) 4:36:03 PM
@TAndy - I think I've inadvertently used a Quik Chek, and maaaybe a Royal Farms, on road trips, but those I don't view as The Enemy of Wawa! Sheetz seems to exist to come for Wawa and I'm having none of it! Central and West PA back off the Wa!
Lizbot (host) 4:38:44 PM
@TAndy - Major bonus with local cab drivers: Not only do they know the roads and area, the guys in the more remote areas knew no English, so that forced me to practice Spanish a lot! Got a lot of use out of it that trip!
Carlos Ramone 4:39:11 PM
Good afternoon..what a pleasant surprise
TAndy 4:39:11 PM
Now see I rarely got out of Mercer County as a kid, so I always viewed QC as the direct competitor for Wawa. For a time, they kind of were till the mid 2010s when Wawa officially started its world domination by taking over the rest of NJ beyond central!
TAndy 4:39:37 PM
I would also trust those local cabbies, especially if they seem like they've worked that job for most of their life.
Lizbot (host) 4:43:28 PM
Hi Carlos Ramone!
Lizbot (host) 4:44:17 PM
@Carlos Ramone - So much travel for my kid's college search, and then visiting relatives in the Pacific Northwest, I missed the station!
Lizbot (host) 4:45:24 PM
@TAndy - Yeah, now Wawas have taken over Florida! For me, in South Jersey, there were quite a lot of Cumberland Farms convenience stores, but mainly Wawa and 711
Carlos Ramone 4:45:41 PM
Summer schedule is always full of surprises..never know who you are going to get
Lizbot (host) 4:46:06 PM
@TAndy - The cabbie that really saved my butt in Uvita was an old farmer who lived in Uvita his whole life and could drive in ANYTHING. He was cool and introduced me to his dog!
Lizbot (host) 4:47:26 PM
@Carlos Ramone - In today's case, I'm subbing for "It Is What It Is with Tis", but I'll be back on air this Thursday from 5-8 PM for Doubleplusgood!
Lizbot (host) 4:49:35 PM
@Carlos Ramone - But then again, summer schedule is often like WPRB's airwaves during student finals: Lots of sub surprises!
TAndy 4:50:41 PM
Aaaagh I'm so excited to see the country
Lizbot (host) 4:51:06 PM
@TAndy - Sounds amazing! When do you leave for your trip?!
Carlos Ramone 4:51:08 PM
Wawa…both kids live in west coast. A trip east always involves a stop at at a WAWA . Significant others don’t understand the attraction..and I side with them
TAndy 4:51:25 PM
Thanks for the show and chat Lizbot!! I'm going back out west later this year too, Fresno! But for now, we're leaving early Friday morning :)
Lizbot (host) 4:52:17 PM
@Carlos Ramone - haha, my husband and daughter are the real Wawa addicts in my family!
Lizbot (host) 4:54:02 PM
@TAndy - Thanks for chatting!
Carlos Ramone 4:56:18 PM
Thanks for the porch music…
Lizbot (host) 4:56:42 PM
@TAndy / @Carlos Ramone - I played "Delicatessen" by Uz Jsme Doma in honor of our Wawa/Sheetz discussion!
Lizbot (host) 4:59:23 PM
See you thursday 5-8 PM! Bye everyone!
TAndy 4:59:52 PM
