good evening young alien types!
Steve Keane 8:03:39 PM
Hey
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:03:43 PM
Yo
Richard Lyons 8:03:52 PM
howdy!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:04:27 PM
I am no longer in exile. I have to change my name.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:04:30 PM
Hi Richard!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:06:49 PM
Howdy
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:07:05 PM
Hi Rob! Welcome!
Liz Bot 8:08:23 PM
Hey Dana!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:09:24 PM
Hi Dana in exile, Lizbot, Richard, and Steve
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:10:23 PM
Argentina 2, Cabo Verde 1, looks like it's in extra time though
Liz Bot 8:10:49 PM
Hi Rob 🦀 🦀 🦀!
TAndy 8:11:48 PM
That extra millisecond of silence after you said "knock on wood" had me scared for a second haha
Liz Bot 8:12:11 PM
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about the Boz Scaggs era
Richard Lyons 8:12:16 PM
on the nose
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:12:44 PM
Hi Liz! Hi TAndy! Yeah, technical difficulties while on the air are always a little traumatizing.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:13:25 PM
There are people setting off fireworks in my neighborhood
Marcus 8:15:09 PM
Hello DK!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:15:35 PM
Hi Marcus!
Marcus 8:16:48 PM
In mental health and law (particularly under the Mental Health Act 1983), "nature" and "degree" are distinct medical criteria used to justify psychiatric assessment, treatment, or confinement.
Marcus 8:17:50 PM
The name of the album is similar to Van Halen 5150 (involuntary psychiatric hold under CA law)
Liz Bot 8:18:27 PM
@Dana K - I’m hearing fireworks too now, and it’s silly cuz it’s still light out!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:18:44 PM
I believe it's called a 302 in PA but I could be wrong
Liz Bot 8:18:59 PM
I think it’s cuz it might rain a little later tonight
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:19:24 PM
Remember during the pandemic when there were just nonstop fireworks all night all summer?
Marcus 8:19:35 PM
All I wanted was a Pepsi....
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:21:10 PM
Ran into a former WPRB DJ at the bar last night. It was Kat who used to do a show called the Litterbox!
Marcus 8:22:02 PM
ARG 2 CBV 2
Liz Bot 8:22:30 PM
omg, the pandemic fireworks were endless!!! I think about that a lot. I’m glad my dog doesn’t get super scared by fireworks! My previous dog did and would have completely lost her shit during the pandemic
Liz Bot 8:23:10 PM
@Dana K - Oh yeah, I remember that show! Was she at JB’s?
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:23:22 PM
She was at Ruba!
TAndy 8:24:23 PM
Oh finally some RAIN IN TRENTON
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:24:39 PM
This is quite a song ("Don't Try to Cure Yourself")
TAndy 8:24:41 PM
It's going to feel like a swamp when I leave for work in an hour 😞
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:25:57 PM
@Marcus, I would not have thought that *this* game would be tied at the end of 90 minutes.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:26:27 PM
@TAndy, let's hope it doesn't rain or it will also be a swamp when leave for work
Marcus 8:27:10 PM
Rob, if CBV beats ARG Brazil is going to throw a party and fly the team to Rio
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:28:38 PM
I will be completely honest, I have not left the house today.
Liz Bot 8:33:13 PM
Where in Cleveland did you get the Shoes This High record? I was just in Cleveland last week. Saw one old Booji Boy mask and one DEVO jumpsuit. Didn’t make it to Akron!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:33:57 PM
I forget what the record store was called...it was near the pinball bar.
C Monsta 8:34:01 PM
howdy! listener storm report! a line of showers was approaching my area, southern mont co, but broke up and missed. they reformed to my south.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:34:03 PM
I just looked it up. Hausfrau.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:34:25 PM
Hi Colin!
C Monsta 8:34:34 PM
i am now the victim of a very pretty sunset as a result.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:35:45 PM
Sounds awful!
C Monsta 8:37:17 PM
there are so many illuminated heavenly cloud structures... tragic
Liz Bot 8:41:39 PM
@Dana K- oh, in Ohio City area? That’s where we played pinball at that pinball bar called 8-Bit. There were two pinball bars within a block or two of each other
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:42:18 PM
Superelectric Pinball Bar! I didn't know there was more than one!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:42:28 PM
DEVO fam go to that one every year.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:43:02 PM
I'm hoping I can make it to DEVOtional this year, but it's also the same week as the WFMU record fair!
yoni from kdu 8:45:15 PM
I loved that baby song
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:45:21 PM
Argentina 3 Cabo Verde 2, extra time is almost over
Liz Bot 8:45:27 PM
@Dana K - Steve Keane recommended Citizen Pie pizza, so we ate there, but we went to the Ohio City location. There is apparently another location near the DEVOtional venue!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:45:33 PM
The game is over
Rob from Maryland 🦀 8:47:04 PM
@Marcus, I bet Brazil would have. But Argentina eeked out a victory
Liz Bot 8:47:17 PM
Cleveland apparently has a lot of pinball!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:48:21 PM
It's true. But they have nothing on the Silverball Museum.
Liz Bot 8:52:10 PM
I was at a pinball dive called Silverball in St Louis, and a different place called Silverball in Asbury Park. Don’t know if that’s the one you’re referring to
Liz Bot 8:52:58 PM
That Chocolate Grinders People With Leukaemia track was fun!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:53:40 PM
Haven't actually played it yet! Clicked on the cued track before I was ready. But it's so good.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:53:47 PM
Asbury Park is the one I've been to
Liz Bot 8:56:01 PM
Ah then it was the previous track that was cracking me up! I wonder if it was Househunters?? Man and woman’s voice, language + gibberish-sounding words, maybe Welsh??
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:56:58 PM
Yep! That was Househunters.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 8:57:11 PM
The man is Jowe Head from Swell Maps
Liz Bot 8:57:39 PM
ah well that makes sense. No wonder he sounded familiar
Liz Bot 8:59:47 PM
Last time I was in Asbury Park, it was right after seeing DEVO! Went and rented a motel room with three friends near Holmdel’s PNC bank arena for DEVO/B-52s/Lene Lovich and then went to Asbury Park for lunch and records/thrift stores / boardwalk dog costume parade that we happened upon as luck would have it!
Liz Bot 8:59:54 PM
Also encountered a listner who stopped George because he was wearing a PRB shirt.
C Monsta 9:00:43 PM
one plus of the heat and humidity is that it has activated the lightning bugs. Out back is super blinky.
Marcus 9:01:56 PM
Herrs and Utz: nobody outside the 1985 broadcast range has ever heard of these brands
C Monsta 9:02:55 PM
I here for swell maps adjacent anything!
Ossy 9:03:55 PM
Hi Dana bash the front
Ossy 9:04:09 PM
And Liz
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:04:27 PM
Hey Ossy!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:04:59 PM
It was very bizarre when I left New Jersey for the first time and couldn't find Herr's chips or Tastykakes anywhere.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:07:13 PM
I talked to a listener at Fred Frith last week because we were both wearing the same new purple cat shirt. He didn't know my show though!
C Monsta 9:07:29 PM
was it in pa where you couldn't find herrs or t cakes?
Marcus 9:07:30 PM
Synder's of Hannover has better range
Jim Otter 9:07:38 PM
Hi chat!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:07:40 PM
@Colin, California
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:07:52 PM
Hi Jim!
C Monsta 9:09:05 PM
good evening jim, you joined us at the perfect time this dag some is jammin!
Jim Otter 9:09:09 PM
Hope your surgery goes well, Dana!
Jim Otter 9:09:30 PM
I missed a good Julian Cope song looking at last week's playlist, not making the same mistake tonight
Liz Bot 9:09:38 PM
Hi Ossy!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:09:43 PM
Thank you so much, Jim!
C Monsta 9:10:28 PM
oh yeah. cleaning the room is a good idea. when you were talking about that i thought healing is a mind state.
C Monsta 9:11:08 PM
sometimes my personal chaos behaviors disrupt my mind state.... man
Liz Bot 9:11:19 PM
@Dana K - I was so sad Fred Frith came during our Ohio trip. I bought two tickets to that show when it first went on sale before I planned the trip, but the trip ended up having to be that week, so I released the ticket back to Steven/Fire Museum. Boo.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:11:40 PM
I was totally expecting to see you and George there before I realized you were in Ohio.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:12:55 PM
THIS is Chocolate Grinders
David Shortell 9:14:07 PM
"Slaughterhouse Five" was shown on TCM recently. You can see Kilgore Trout's name on the book Eliot Rosewater reads when Billy Pilgrim's mom visits in the hospital.
Marcus 9:14:57 PM
David: I knew I recognized that name!
Jim Otter 9:15:00 PM
David, I just read a memoir by Theodore Sturgeon, who was the inspiration for Kilgore Trout
Marcus 9:15:37 PM
Chocolate Grinders kinda funky
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:15:51 PM
I'm adding it to my saxophone playlist.
Marcus 9:16:28 PM
Remember your funk show Dana?
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:16:45 PM
I think so?
Jim Otter 9:17:03 PM
How long is the saxophone playlist?
Liz Bot 9:17:13 PM
@Dana K - Oh I wonder if the listener at Frith was Mark Foreman. He goes to a lot of Fire Museum type shows and wears PRB shirts. Short white hair, glasses. He used to DJ at XPN before it changed
Marcus 9:18:15 PM
APB, A Certain Ratio, Liquid Liquid, Blancmange: the funky Post-Punk/New Wavers
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:18:56 PM
Yes! I've done a few variations on that show and it's always fun.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:19:13 PM
@Liz, it might have been! He was there with a woman who I presume was his wife
C Monsta 9:20:22 PM
did the chocolate grinders song have me dancing about playing air sax? absolutely!
Chris Mohr 9:20:31 PM
Hello, DJ Dana K!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:21:03 PM
Hi Chris!
Steve Keane 9:21:59 PM
Movie's over. Am here full time now.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:22:34 PM
Hi Steve. We've been talking about Cleveland.
Steve Keane 9:22:36 PM
Hi Lizbot!
Chris Mohr 9:23:00 PM
Today I got to meet the pope, meet the pope. Or at least attend the ceremony at the National Constitution Center where they gave Pope Leo XIV the Liberty Medal. Which makes me think of "Southern Mark Smith" by Jazz Butcher!!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:25:22 PM
Meet the pope, meet the pope, meet the pope
Chris Mohr 9:25:33 PM
Which makes me think of The Fall, The Fall, The Fall because of course it would
Chris Mohr 9:26:05 PM
Thousands of people are queuing in line to meet the pope!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:26:29 PM
What a great song.
Marcus 9:26:33 PM
I gotta go get the papers, get the papers
Steve Keane 9:27:39 PM
@Chris Mohr: the Jazz Butcher!
Chris Mohr 9:28:35 PM
@Steve Keane: The Jazz Butcher indeed! RIP Pat 🙏🏽
Liz Bot 9:29:59 PM
Hi Steve! Thanks for the Citizen Pie rec! I got peach pizza special!
Liz Bot 9:30:54 PM
@Chris Mohr - I just saw an old photo of you from the WPRB history archive this week! Mid-80s?
Steve Keane 9:32:05 PM
@LizBot: I've only had it twice. They're usually out of dough by the time I get to the Beachland.
Chris Mohr 9:32:42 PM
@Liz Bot, yep, that was my heyday! When Jon Solomon and Mike Lupica were in high school
Steve Keane 9:32:52 PM
@Chris: Max died a few months ago.
Chris Mohr 9:34:37 PM
@Steve: Sorry to hear that, I hadn't heard about it
Liz Bot 9:34:47 PM
@Steve Keane - Had a very satisfying Citizen Pie and pinball afternoon at the Ohio City location. Went to 16-Bit arcade and Pins mechanical pinball
Steve Keane 9:35:26 PM
@Chris: Those two didn't take real good care of themselves.
Chris Mohr 9:35:48 PM
We DO ❤️ Commie Francis❗️
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:37:51 PM
Man. I always get hungry in these chats.
C Monsta 9:39:47 PM
speaking of hungry, which i am not. but there is a demon on my shoulder. I bought a peach pie for tomorrow stuff. but now i am at home alone with a peach pie...
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:41:05 PM
You're living on the edge!
Liz Bot 9:41:47 PM
@Chris Mohr - You do not look like you aged more than a 20 years since then!
Liz Bot 9:42:19 PM
@C Monsta - You know what to do. Peach pie beckons.
Jim Otter 9:43:47 PM
Now wait just a minute, are you all talking about a pizza pie with a peach pie on it?
yoni from kdu 9:44:13 PM
This song is just the best
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:44:35 PM
Hiiiiii Yoniiii
Steve Keane 9:44:56 PM
I have my patriotic meal planned for tomorrow. Lasagna and German beer. And my anarcho-punk playlist all ready. I'm also flying the anarcho-communist flag outside. Happy Saturday to everyone!
yoni from kdu 9:45:27 PM
Hello hi
yoni from kdu 9:45:32 PM
How is Sleeve
Steve Keane 9:45:36 PM
Hello
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:46:33 PM
Sleeve didn't want to hang out with me all day until I started putting my show together and she decided she wanted to try and sit on my laptop
C Monsta 9:48:16 PM
radio cat boss says the show needs more of all of these buttons pushed at the same time!
Liz Bot 9:53:06 PM
Happy Saturday in July, Steve! My birthday being on the Fourth of July always feels weird and conflicted, but these days a lot more so
Steve Keane 9:55:14 PM
Wasn't Tom Cruise also Born on the 4th of July?
Steve Keane 9:55:30 PM
I'm sorry. I'll see myself out...
C Monsta 9:55:33 PM
lol steve!
David Shortell 9:57:25 PM
The real Abe Vigoda's been dead a decade now. AntennaTV repeats "Barney Miller", but not "Fish".
Jim Otter 9:57:56 PM
Abe "Phish" Vigoda
Dana K (in exile) (host) 9:59:07 PM
You can check his status here: http://isabevigodadead.com/
C Monsta 9:59:52 PM
liz, enjoy your birthday! wprb is a perfect start to fixing america.
Steve Keane 10:01:07 PM
I had the Barney Miller boardgame when I was a kid.
David Shortell 10:02:02 PM
Were Gregory Sierra, Linda Lavin and Barbara Barrie depicted in it?
Liz Bot 10:02:57 PM
@C Monsta - thanks! Yeah, WPRB helps! One year for my birthday show I just played The Residents’ demented-sounding Stars & Hank forever John Philip Sousa covers
Steve Keane 10:03:53 PM
The only thing I remember was that it became the game me and my cousins would play on our birthdays and that we'd lose pieces and replace them with homemade ones. It was the Ship of Theseus.
Tyler B. 10:08:35 PM
Folk fest!
C Monsta 10:10:11 PM
tyler b!
Marcus 10:11:53 PM
Sick Gazelle, Tame Impala, ...
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:12:00 PM
Hi Tyler! I still have that picture of you wearing Jon Solomon's parents on your shirt!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:13:34 PM
I yapped too much...not gonna have enough time to play everything.
C Monsta 10:13:35 PM
has trenton's own cryptkeeper 5 made the 10th list? i've known those guys for years they are sweeties.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:13:48 PM
I've never heard them!
Steve Keane 10:13:52 PM
There's no sax but when DEVO opened for themselves as Dove, the Band of Love the music for their brain of Dylan's Gotta Serve Somebody is Contort Yourself. I have it as an MP3. I'm sure we can figure out how to get it on the air.
Steve Keane 10:14:15 PM
Version, not brain. Autocorrect...
C Monsta 10:14:21 PM
oh i think only earlier versions of that band had sax.
Marcus 10:14:55 PM
New York's All Right If You Like Saxophones
C Monsta 10:15:11 PM
they always correct me when i call them rockabilly 🤣 they say... rock....
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:15:55 PM
The show is gonna be called Don't Back the Front's Alright If You Like Saxophones
C Monsta 10:16:36 PM
some say at one point most band members had product in their hair and a comb in their pocket.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 10:16:54 PM
We hope your surgery goes well, Dana. And this has been a great show! Good night all
C Monsta 10:17:09 PM
a brilliant anniversary show name
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:17:57 PM
Goodnight Rob! And thank you!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:25:30 PM
I want to thank all of you for sticking with WPRB over WXPN but Robert Drake put together a really cool Philly punk/new wave playlist this evening...gonna have to listen to that one.
Jim Otter 10:27:06 PM
WPRB forever, WXPN never!
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:29:02 PM
I like Robert's show. I will keep my opinion on the rest of WXPN to myself.
Steve Keane 10:30:59 PM
He's alright but he's an old spud like me, not a human dynamo like you.
C Monsta 10:31:09 PM
lol, thanks dana, i just deleted a lot of words...
Jim Otter 10:32:06 PM
Their playlists are kind of hard to find! I like what I see of this archived one though.
David Shortell 10:32:20 PM
Besides the Cryptkeeper Five, Johnny Ott fronts a quintet with two saxophonists called the Night Shakes. I saw them November at Wild Air Beerworks.
Jim Otter 10:33:55 PM
David, you said cryptkeeper and saxophone so I kind of feel compelled to request Cortex's "Mayhem Troopers" for the sax show. If that's not too coffin-shaped-upright-bass horrorpunk, and so long as there's nothing too sordid about Freddie Wadling that I don't know
David Shortell 10:34:19 PM
I'm surprised this sax-intensive program hasn't featured X-Ray Spex, considering it's Poly Styrene's birthday.

I saw this band Cartoon last night. They were SO good.
yoni from kdu 10:37:08 PM
Cortex is the best
yoni from kdu 10:37:28 PM
And I love the Anti-Cimex connection. Truly silly.
Jim Otter 10:38:40 PM
Yoni I didn't even know about that! I always feel... reserved requesting stuff where I know very little about the people involved
yoni from kdu 10:38:55 PM
(silly cause those are truly Very Different Bands)
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:39:25 PM
Don't feel too bad Jim! I only know the jazz-funk Cortex
Scooter France 10:40:14 PM
I'm so bummed I kind of booked a show for Carnivorous Bells and Cartoon next Saturday in Boston, and because I'm an idiot and got the date mixed up, I booked another show on the same day. I handed the Cartoon show off to my friend Jason who I was booking it with because I have to run the other show, but I'm really bummed to not see Cartoon.
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:40:59 PM
Aw, that IS a bummer!
C Monsta 10:41:45 PM
i have a feeling this is not my cheltenham (class of 93!!!)....
Dana K (in exile) (host) 10:43:11 PM
I spent a lot of time in that Cheltenham when I was at college in Glenside. But I'm pretty sure Milk From Cheltenham is a reference to the "historic spa town" in the UK.
Jim Otter 10:44:28 PM
Loved the Slapp Happy/Henry Cow btw. And all of this show

Gonna mostly keep my XPN opinions to myself. Not a fan but I like Robert Drake. A couple family members DJ at XPN though so I will say no more.
