Music

Édouard Glissant was a poet-philosopher who emphasized how poetry and music can help us understand the hapzard connections between cultures. He wrote over 30 books, with interests ranging from William Faulker to salsa music. some worldly echoes with edward glissando pays homage to Glissant by playing music across cultures to build understand their similarities and build bridges across the globe.

On that note, I went to look for the Mississippi Kites nesting in DC yesterday afternoon https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/mississippi-kite

It is a southern insect-eating hawk that has expanded its range north in the past four decades.

Oh cool! How common is it to see them in DC?

And how does the range they travel change? Is it environmental factors?

Good morning TAndy!

It's the first nest found in DC; there are 2 nesting sites northwest of DC near Rockville, MD, and a handful of sites across the Potomac in northern Virginia. The species first started nesting in southern Virginia in the late 1980s iirc, in northern VA c. 1995, and in Maryland maybe 5 years ago

That's fascinating! And it's amazing that you were able to be see the first nest in DC

The species winters in South American and migrates through Central America and Mexico to reach their USA nesting grounds. Their breeding range has expanded northward because of global warming

Sadly it doesn't surprise me that global warming is the culprit

A teenage birder who lives near the DC nesting site noticed them last summer and put the word out. I saw both kites last summer a couple of times

Ahhhh gotcha

And I've been going to the first-found of those Maryland nesting sites since it was first found (iirc another teen birder had a large role in finding those birds) 5 or 6 years ago

I’m a sucker for various world music samplers. Does anyone still put them out? Mine are all ‘90’s I think.

As opposed to say Windam Hill samplers I’d say.

Which sound like Victoria Secret cd samplers, to me anyway.
