World Goth Day is May 22. And KEXP in the other Washington is playing Goth music all day long. And the weather here around the real Washington (DC) is overcast, rainy, dreary, just like the other Washington so often is

get ready to step on the dark gas then, we'll do some goth darkness next and see how it goes

@Marcus, I believe that all the new/upgraded smoke detectors in my county must be hard-wired. I miss the days when I could rip a beeping battery-powered one apart and not have to replace it immediately

I think the most punishing hell of all would be being trapped in an apartment where it is forever Sunday night at 11:40 PM and one of the smoke alarms is doing the every-two-minute-chirp to signal its battery is dying but you are unable to locate the problematic unit and so you just wander from room to room with an ever-increasing sense of anxiety.

Mike, that's how the hardwired ones work. When one goes bad, they all beep and you have to hunt for the bad one

I short-circuit beeping hell (pun intended) by having all our smoke detectors replaced a year or more before the 10-year date on the devices. Especially if we've had power outages lasting a few hours.
