I haven't. But, I recently got a download of the mother of all Quad releases, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music from a very rare Quad 8 track

OMG, when that album was released it was like death. A two record set, I sold maybe 1 copy.

It was OOP in three weeks

If you're going to be a band that can cover anything as their stump the band moments can prove, the NRBQ guys really showed their stuff by covering Sun Ra. Not yer average bar band

They were/are fantastic people. They hooked up Ra with their booking agent. They were terrific mensches.

I played Metal Machine Music on 88.9 when the DJ who followed my show was late one day. When he arrived, he immediately ripped it off the turntable.

But in time, I believe that album was re-appraised for it's music value.

I just watched an hour long video, very good, by a professor on tips to make a powerful, unforgetfull speech. One of his things was "Don't thank people for attending the speech." It derived from the import of the speech. Well I need to thank all m radio friends for tuning in today, really!

One of my biggest regrets: I was at a library book sale which I used to frequent like an addict, buying more books than I could ever read because they were great and cheap. I found this ancient Connie Mack biography which no one bought because it didn't have a bar code and was therefore missed by the Scanner People. In the end I put it back, saying to myself I had already found too many books for the day. One of my biggest regrets.

Russ used to read excerpts of CAMUS on his radio shows much to the chagrin of his corporate masters.

Bill Janovitz (writer of bios & also member of Buffalo Tom) also wrote a great book on The Cars. Really dug in there and did it well.

The last entertainment book Russ suggested to me was the biography of Ether Merman. I will go with Bill Janovitz.
