It's a sorely overlooked part of American history that I wasn't even aware of on any level in school. Still much to learn, much to experience. I'll be visiting the homeland this summer for the first time, I'm excited.

Honestly a lot of these words sound star wars to me (is that culturally insensitive to say?)

I think maybe because they appropriated 'foreign' sounding languages for the movies

nothing insensitive at all, just playin with words, language is fascinating. Remember that Star Wars was first movie dubbed into Navajo!

it's a trip watching Star Wars in Navajo, and oddly enough the first place that sold it (with a Han Solo matchbox car van!) with Navajo option was Wal-Mart!

(I spent some time down this rabbithole because for a time I was obsessed with watching SW in Navajo and it was rare to find)

Obsidian blades are so cool

Especially the maquahuitl

obsidian is amazing stuff, one of my fave rocks

Despite never using it, I would love to procure one someday. Such a labor for what can only last as a precision tool.

gotcha. I also love Faulkner, Morrison, Flannery O Connor, and the southern gothic style

another book that's kinda Blood Meridiany is Butcher's Crossing by John Williams

That is awesome. Keep reading and exploring that genre. I keep finding cool stuff. Some of the writers bordering the Deep South in Indiana, Ohio, etc are good too, brutal as hell.

sometimes those bordering states are more hardcore southern than the deep south LOLOL
