I saw Belly open up for Cranes at the 930 Club in DC back in the day. If I remember correctly. I was not all that familiar with either band and they both were amazing

Good, of course! I have the idea that my friends Noise Petals opened but that could be projection. Their bass player loved them.

My favorite song of theirs is "Were Yeats Gene Simmons." Their bassist, Jeremy Toback, is still releasing music as a solo act and as half of Renee and Jeremy, which started by making covers of 80s songs reimagined as lullabies....

I think I bought my 1st LP at Woolworth's in Somerville: Steve Miller's Greatest Hits -- though that title was premature, because it featured songs from his first 5 LPs, before he hit it big with The Joker!

Agreed Rob, it started off almost Van der Graaf Generator-like with the dismal second-person lyrics

I have to check out van der graff - i know a few songs that were pretty good -- I really should try to find more newer prog --

The only Strawbs song I know at all is "Part Of The Union", so it's nice to hear other songs. And same with Nektar, I don't know them at all.

jsut checekd rick wakeman was n strawbs-- 21 century is fun i can just find out .. instead of haning out in front of the 7-11 discussing wheather its true or not... or maybe that was more fun

I'm not a deep prog person myself, a friend recommended VdGG after I said the only prog I really enjoyed was King Crimson. "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" is a good 20+ minute introduction I guess

A 1972-strength tab from what I have heard, while out in the ocean, sounds like a terrifying ordeal

I read in the wiki for the band that Richard Hudson and John Ford were in The Strawbs at one point. They ended up as/in The Monks, the late 70s punk band that did "Bad Habits" and a few other songs I knew
