Lizbot (host) 5:04:17 PM
Hi Bike R!
Richard Mitnick 5:04:26 PM
I have been clicked in all day. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you have a great show.
Mr. Mont 5:04:36 PM
Hey! We just came back from Hawai'i. Yikes, bit of meteorological shock.
Bike R 5:05:03 PM
Your show is always great, and the chat always rocks.
Lizbot (host) 5:05:15 PM
Hi Richard Mitnick!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:22 PM
Hi Mr. Mont!
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:07:31 PM
hello all! i just got back from a truly mindblowing field trip to the Penn Libraries high-density storage facility.
Lizbot (host) 5:07:43 PM
Hi addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum!
Mr. Mont 5:08:01 PM
This song reminds me of "Crac!" a great bit of 1980s animation out of Canada. Won an academy award.
addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum 5:08:03 PM
AND i saw a loon on the way home!?
Lizbot (host) 5:08:16 PM
@Mr. Mont - How was the weather in Hawai'i?
Mr. Mont 5:08:49 PM
I can't lie. It's paradise. Don't ever go, you won't want to come back.
Lizbot (host) 5:08:59 PM
THanks Bike R!
Teresa Peacock 5:09:39 PM
So glad to hear your voice -- sounding strong and clear! -- back on these fair airwaves, Lizbot! You definitely deserve needed respite from all this winter's galloping cruds! Here's to spring 2026 absolutely boring healthwise! <3 <3
Lizbot (host) 5:10:05 PM
Hi Teresa Peacock!
Teresa Peacock 5:10:23 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:10:35 PM
@Mr. Mont - I've been! I dream of getting back there all the time!
Teresa Peacock 5:11:27 PM
Howdy to one and all of my DoublePlusBetters! <3 <3 <3
Mr. Mont 5:11:33 PM
We usually go to Kaua'i, which we love. But this time we went to the big island. It's a place you could live. We're saving our pennies... someday!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:36 PM
@Teresa Peacock - Sooo much crud has been going around Philly this winter!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:55 PM
@Mr. Mont - Been to Maui and Oahu!
Number 6 5:12:55 PM
Hola!
Lizbot (host) 5:13:00 PM
Hi Number 6!
Mr. Mont 5:16:21 PM
@Lizbot Hey - your logo is like the t-shirt logo from years ago. I really liked that one.
Lizbot (host) 5:19:59 PM
@Mr. Mont - Yes! I still have that shirt at home!
Mr. Mont 5:24:35 PM
I outgrew that t-shirt over COVID. (I got fat.) :(
Lizbot (host) 5:24:43 PM
@addie 🐍🐍🐍 plum - I'd love to hear about your field trip!
Bike R 5:24:51 PM
Moody show so far, right?
Lizbot (host) 5:28:56 PM
@Bike R - The rain is influencing my mood!
Mr. Mont 5:29:45 PM
Loving it.
Mr. Mont 5:33:40 PM
No, that was Bike R. Sorry Bike R.
Number 6 5:35:33 PM
@Lizbot- You've got mail! I left something about Smithville Synth night and some concerts at The Rotunda.
Lizbot (host) 5:37:34 PM
@Number 6 - Oh! I was down in that studio earlier today but forgot to check the mail! Thanks for the heads up!
Number 6 5:38:20 PM
I am leaving soon for synth night soon. BCNU!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:54 PM
More eerie fog music for a rainy evening!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:07 PM
@Number 6 - Have fun at synth night!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:42 PM
@Mr. Mont - haha, I relate, but I thankfully have a few other family members who wear the shirts when I don't!
TAndy 5:40:41 PM
The name of the game is lightworks! That was so awesome to hear before the mic break, I used to have the Flying Lotus remix of that on repeat YEARS ago.
Lizbot (host) 5:40:42 PM
@Mr. Mont - Never been to Kaua'i but I've heard a lot about it because a friend from Philly lived there for about 20 years and met his wife there before moving back to this area. I'd love to go to Kaua'i some time!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:50 PM
Hi TAndy!
TAndy 5:41:02 PM
Hi Lizbot!!
Mr. Mont 5:42:08 PM
@Lizbot We love Kaua'i - more our speed than Maui or Oahu. The Garden Isle.
Lizbot (host) 5:43:07 PM
@TAndy - Is Lightworks a console game?
Lizbot (host) 5:44:42 PM
@Teresa Peacock - Don't know if you're still on here - I was distracted with some studio stuff, but heads up: I am Northampton-bound in a couple of weeks! College tours for the kid! Only there for and a half with two college tours crammed in there before heading to Boston, but it'd be nice to meet up if there's time!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:04 PM
@Teresa Peacock - i want to at the very least pick yr brain on good restaurants and cafes in Northampton, South Hadley and surrounding!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:24 PM
@Mr. Mont - I get the impression that Kaua'i is maybe less commercial? Is that accurate? I'd been all over Maui, so Oahu was a real change, having a big city. I love Maui, but would love to compare it to Kaua'i! Annnnywhere in Hawaii is fine by me! Got a friend living on a farm on the big island too, one of these days I should visit him!
TAndy 5:49:07 PM
@Lizbot It was a reference to that flying lotus remix, which itself is riffing from a J Dilla production (RIP 💙). https://youtu.be/Bul7m3jN25Q
TAndy 5:50:05 PM
I can't find a good rip of the Flylo remix, apparently it was a vinyl only release way back in the day. I only heard it from an old b2b DJ set he did on pirate radio back in 2007 in the finest toaster quality recording haha
Rob from Maryland 5:51:20 PM
Hi everyone!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:03 PM
@Mr. Mont - Any time I feel lousy about the weather in the Philly area, I look at my weather app to see what's up in Maui and it's almost invariably 75 degrees and sunny! Then I plot a way to get back there!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:10 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:34 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Is Maryland suffering the endless rain Philly/Jersey has gotten this week??
Mr. Mont 5:53:08 PM
@Lizbot I actually don't mind the weather here all that much. But the island vibe... nothing like that here.
Van Kapeghian 5:53:40 PM
Evening, everybody. Welcome back from the Big Easy, Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:16 PM
@TAndy - oh man, I hope you find that recording one day in better quality! There are certain releases I've been hunting for years that don't exist digitally, i know the feeling!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:24 PM
Hi Van Kapeghian!
0x7EA Roffle 5:55:59 PM
Howdy Lizbot! Hey all, just another day until sudospring. Woot!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:47 PM
@Van Kapeghian - Thanks! This second visit to New Orleans only fortifies its spot in my list of favorite cities. It's the whole vibe there, not just the Mardi Gras partying, but all people and the communal feeling, public art and love of music, and they really fund their public school music programs well because they know how important it is!
Mr. Mont 5:56:48 PM
Interesting take on The Pretenders song!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:54 PM
Hi 0x7EA Roffle!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:40 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - I swear, this weather had better not go from blizzard to endless fog-rain to downright hot and humid! I demand a proper spring with sun and flowers, dammit
Van Kapeghian 5:57:40 PM
I've never been during Mardi Gras, but visited maybe a dozen times and adore that city
Rob from Maryland 5:58:05 PM
@Lizbot, no, we haven't seen too much rain in the past two weeks
Mr. Mont 5:59:25 PM
Yeah, that's March in the mid-atlantic. "April is the cruellest month" is wrong. March is lost somewhere between winter and spring.
0x7EA Roffle 6:02:12 PM
Spring and fall proper only lasts about two weeks most years.
Randy Marthins 6:02:18 PM
TS Eliot is never wrong
Mr. Mont 6:04:01 PM
@Randy Marthins You're right, of course. Perhaps "March is the dreariest month" is better.
Randy Marthins 6:05:22 PM
Following is how is describe winter/spring in NJ to runners from other places
Randy Marthins 6:05:36 PM
What precip we do get is usually a semi-frozen/semi-corrosive slurry, covering rocks and sand and gravel and shoes and needles and underwear and little bottles of Fireball and hubcaps and roadkill and all sorts of other shit laying in the roadside. When that all dries out, the slush is gone, but all that other crap is still out there, usually migrating onto the part of the street that I’m using , and collecting in any number of brand new potholes
Mrs Wedge 6:06:20 PM
I saw some snowdrops yesterday in Society Hill
Lizbot (host) 6:07:06 PM
Hi Mrs. Wedge! I'm glad to hear that! I await their arrival in my yard!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:16 PM
Hi Randy Marthins!
Randy Marthins 6:07:43 PM
@mr Mont - I think cruel is accurate; you think it's gonna be nice, but nope - we went to a wedding in April which had all 3 previous in one day: rain, sleet, snow, then a thunderstorm
Randy Marthins 6:08:05 PM
"Sometimes it snows in April" Prince
Lizbot (host) 6:08:38 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Lucky you! Actually, my husband escaped to Baltimore last weekend for a show at Ottobar, but that was the last nice weather we had in Philly!
Randy Marthins 6:09:17 PM
March - I highly recommend googling "march John Belushi"
Randy Marthins 6:09:43 PM
"But that's not the WEIRD part!!! Oh no!!!"
Lizbot (host) 6:09:46 PM
@Van Kapeghian - I love NOLA so much. The first time I went a couple weeks before Mardi Gras, but of course the parades had already started. I never knew before that that they begin a month and a half before Mardi Gras day!
Van Kapeghian 6:10:21 PM
Love Serge!
Lizbot (host) 6:10:48 PM
@Van Kapeghian - Also was pleasantly surprised while leaving a restaurant to catch a show when the waitress offered to pour my cocktail into a to-go cup! I forgot about that nice perk to NOLA! No open containers in Philly, that's for sure
Randy Marthins 6:11:25 PM
I once asked in CCD - How can Irish Catholics celebrate st patty's day with corned beef if it's during Lent? I got kicked out
Randy Marthins 6:11:56 PM
I think there's a Patron Saint loophole?
Lizbot (host) 6:12:00 PM
@Randy Marthins - Oh today is the anniversary of Belushi's death?
0x7EA Roffle 6:12:15 PM
No open containers in Philly? Not according to my calculations. lol
Lizbot (host) 6:12:51 PM
This part of the song! The story is supposedly that Serge hit Melody Nelson with his car while she was on a bike. Love the rising chorus here!
Randy Marthins 6:13:24 PM
Not that I know of, but he did a bit on SNL weekend Update about "March comes in like a lion ..." which is amazing!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:14:26 PM
@Randy Marthins - OMG! BRillant! that hits SO close to home for me! My Irish Catholic parents adhered strictly to the fish on Friday rule throughout the whole year! I always had to announce what I was giving up for Lent. I was cheeky and tried to declare I was giving up things I secretly (or not so secretly) did not like
Mrs Wedge 6:15:48 PM
I still can't stand the smell of frozen fish because of my Catholic mother
Randy Marthins 6:15:54 PM
@roffle "No open containers in Philly? Not according to my calculations. lol" as someone who was frequently near the door when people left dirty franks with a bottle or cup, I can say "I didn't see you take that out"
Lizbot (host) 6:16:41 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - I mean, yes, you can 100% see people walking around with open 40 ozers, and I was once such a person, (my husband when in his 20s even hid one in the snow while he went in to the ritz to see a movie, and then retrieved it again, nice and chilled, when he reemerged,) but restaurants aren't allowed to send you out onto the street with open takeout cups of alcohol in Philly
Randy Marthins 6:16:46 PM
My Grandmom was strictly "no meat AT ALL during lent" except sundays
Mrs Wedge 6:17:16 PM
It was better than beaver on Friday, however
Lizbot (host) 6:17:23 PM
@Mrs Wedge - Oh my mom loved cooking fish, and I really really dislike fish! I would just eat the bed of rice on those nights!
Lizbot (host) 6:19:16 PM
@Randy Marthins - Oh I cannot wait to ask my Catholic mother about that conundrum on March 17th when she makes her corned beef & cabbage with Irish soda bread (which she loads with raisins...too many raisins!)
Randy Marthins 6:19:24 PM
Many years ago, I read about a beer writer/brewer/aficionado who followed a Belgian monk's fast for Lent - no food AT ALL, only BEER!!!
Randy Marthins 6:19:44 PM
Fish sticks in the cafeteria
0x7EA Roffle 6:20:07 PM
Oh, take out opens. Yea, that's a liability. I too believe in cooling beer naturally in god's own snow. :)
Lizbot (host) 6:21:11 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - My husband's friend insisted he test the cap first, lest the Olde English had been replaced with pee during the course of the movie!
0x7EA Roffle 6:21:11 PM
I rarely drink nowadays, but it barely snows too. Works out.
0x7EA Roffle 6:21:52 PM
Wise move!
Randy Marthins 6:22:01 PM
Lent is a good time to experiment with vegetarian dishes; south Asian food!!! Hit up your nearby Indian or Pakistani joint!!!
0x7EA Roffle 6:22:17 PM
That open beer question . :)
Lizbot (host) 6:23:07 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - My days of 40 ouncers and malt beverages are decades behind me now, but they sure were cheap when I had just a few bucks to spend!
0x7EA Roffle 6:23:40 PM
I stick to Jesus pizza during lent Randy, but I like that idea.
Lizbot (host) 6:23:48 PM
Sister Rosetta Tharpe promises "the sun will shine in my backdoor some day". I am patiently waiting!
Randy Marthins 6:24:08 PM
Alton brown makes fish fingers & custard #IYKYK https://youtu.be/JLgeA_Qsbls?si=K_zIBSHmDtQglws9
Lizbot (host) 6:25:28 PM
@Randy Marthins - I was already vegetarian! Much to my mom's annoyance, I went fully vegetarian at 15, remained so until 35.
0x7EA Roffle 6:25:33 PM
Good Eats was my favorite food channel thing in olden days.
Mrs Wedge 6:26:12 PM
I feel sorry for the fish. They just want to swim & be free.
John Coffey 6:27:01 PM
Biased to Maui for the incredible Tradewinds for windsurfing, kiting and now wing sailing. And of course Peʻahi for the big winter waves! 2 time Road to Hana survivor.
0x7EA Roffle 6:27:18 PM
Wow, lizbot, I did the same around that age, but lasted around 6 months. Pretty good for me back then.
Lizbot (host) 6:27:34 PM
@Randy Marthins - I tried being vegetarian at 12, but wasn't willing to cook all my own meals then. At 15, when I fully committed to it, my mom told me she would not be altering her menu for me, so I got good at cooking my own meals. The joke was on her, however, because just a few years later my brother began dating and then married his wife, who was Hindu and vegetarian since birth, so suddenly my mom had to offer more veggie options at family get-togethers!
Lizbot (host) 6:28:39 PM
Hi John Coffey!
0x7EA Roffle 6:30:09 PM
@John Coffey, The wind surfers in the Columbia Gorge move at insane speeds.
John Coffey 6:30:26 PM
Hi Liz, can't get my wife to quit the red meat, pork, salami and pepperoni. Yuck! I order tofu or seitan all the time if I can.
Lizbot (host) 6:30:56 PM
@Mrs Wedge - I love watching fish while snorkeling. Not so much their smell when dead!
Lizbot (host) 6:31:14 PM
Love that clip-clop sound!
John Coffey 6:32:11 PM
@Roffle Sort of regret never sailing the Gorge. Maui is much warmer. OBX is my go to spot now.
0x7EA Roffle 6:32:54 PM
Definitely colder than Maui. LOL
Lizbot (host) 6:33:05 PM
@John Coffey - I was strictly veggie 20 years, and vegan 10 of those years, but after my kid was born, I developed some pretty challenging food allergies, including to soy and legumes, so I now eat poultry! I remember really resisting it at first!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:51 PM
@John Coffey - Oh man, I did the Road to Hana! THANKFULLY, I did not drive!
0x7EA Roffle 6:34:10 PM
Never did that myself John. Looks like crazy fun.
Randy Marthins 6:34:21 PM
@lizbot - my daughter was vegetarian for a couple years (end of hs, beginning of college, maybe) as the house chef, so became I as well, about 1/2 the time?
Randy Marthins 6:35:51 PM
Ultrarunner scott Jurek has a book "eat to run" which has many "plant-based" recipes - his mushroom lentil burgers still play well in our house
Lizbot (host) 6:36:11 PM
@Randy Marthins - My husband's mom was vegetarian for a couple years, so he ate vegetarian mostly then by default. When I was vegetarian, he used to get a chicken cheese steak for dinner for himself on Thursday nights while I was at the station!
Randy Marthins 6:36:32 PM
Kevin smith became vegan after his heart attack
Lizbot (host) 6:36:45 PM
@Randy Marthins - I LOVE a good lentil soup, but sadly can't have it anymore!
Randy Marthins 6:37:39 PM
Yeah plant based meals are NOT something you can just throw together, which is a huge problem for busy people
Gerard Donaghy 6:39:30 PM
Residents, Snakefinger and Tuxedomoon? Ralph Records would be proud.
Zach 6:41:29 PM
I’m now curious as to how we misheard those lyrics
Lizbot (host) 6:46:32 PM
Hi Gerard Donaghy!
Lizbot (host) 6:47:25 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Ralph Records has a good chunk of my change from all the albums I've gotten from them over the years! Love their artists! RIP Hardy Fox
Gerard Donaghy 6:47:28 PM
Greetings from Portland OR- grew up in Philly and PRB was my lifeline in the 80's-90's.
Gerard Donaghy 6:47:44 PM
Buy or die!
Lizbot (host) 6:48:43 PM
Hi Zach! haha, I might be the only one to have misheard those Snakefinger lyrics the first time I heard "Here Come the Bums", but the "shadowland" is the phrase in question that threw me for a loop the first time I heard it!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:25 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Same! I grew up in Philly and Jersey and was lucky to have stumbled onto WPRB's airwaves at an impressionable age!
Ossy 6:50:24 PM
hi liz
Lizbot (host) 6:51:33 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - So glad I have physical copies of those albums and didn't get rid of them in favor of streaming services. So many aren't even on streaming, some not even available digitally!
Lizbot (host) 6:53:15 PM
Hello Ossy! How's it smelling in all these rains? Think Tara has wielded her yellow wellies boots?!
Gerard Donaghy 6:53:34 PM
Never count on the streamers. And yes, PRB made me the person I am today. Lots of nights at Khyber Pass and J C Dobbs and City Gardens.
Lizbot (host) 6:55:08 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Exactly. Streamers = paying many times over for music that can be taken away at any time, while not paying artists a fair share!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:55 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Oh man, I spent so many nights at The Khyber! I miss that place and its ancient bar! JC Dobbs too! My friend Dan B used to work at City Gardens
Lizbot (host) 6:56:54 PM
@John Coffey - Maui is SO warm...until you go up Haleakala! I was very underdressed to watch the sunrise up there! I wrapped a blanket around myself since I didn't have a coat!
Ossy 6:58:08 PM
Liz - Who knows liz, hahaha! Pretty also sure with pre spring showers, the wellies are totally smelly like Princess Daisy's LOOL https://www.deviantart.com/deaththeshadow/art/A-Royal-Rubbery-Stench-1108543397
Gerard Donaghy 6:58:43 PM
Bragging rights for shows at Khyber Pass include seeing Boredoms and Bongwater (not on the same night, obvs)
0x7EA Roffle 6:59:32 PM
@Gerard Donaghy, I lived in Longview, I miss the west coast more than I thought I would, but Philly is working for me for now. Big world out there, still would like to go to the Rainbow again though. Flip side. :)
Ossy 7:00:59 PM
and speaking of tara sands!! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DS8ML3xkid6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Van Kapeghian 7:02:40 PM
Back from dinner. Ahh, love that Adam Ant song
Gerard Donaghy 7:08:03 PM
@0x7EA glad Philly is working for you. It ground me down. Moving saved my sanity.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:08 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - haha, what a bill Boredoms WITH Bongwater would be! I saw Boredoms, never saw Bongwater live! I caught one of Melt Banana's earliest U.S. tours at The Khyber!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:13 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - But my favorite Khyber memory was meeting Jonathan Richman outside the front door after a show and he was chatty and in a great mood! Upstairs at The Khyber, my friend, a former WPRB DJ who is a massive Jojo/Modern Lovers fan, was DJing, and I tried to talk him into going up there, but he wanted fresh air since it was a very hot night and sweltering in the Khyber! (To be fair, he asked for the AC to be turned off and then got too hot!)
Lizbot (host) 7:10:58 PM
@Van Kapeghian - That's a fun one! First off, as a non-horse-girl, my inquiring mind wants an answer to that question. Secondly: horse clop sounds to the beat at the end!
0x7EA Roffle 7:11:01 PM
@Gerard Donaghy, I totally get that. I've lived many, many places and came back here. Strange world. Who knows what's in the next act though. :)
Van Kapeghian 7:11:47 PM
can't go wrong with horse clops... don't quote me on that
Lizbot (host) 7:12:03 PM
@Ossy - The Smelly Wellies could 100% be a Scottish twee band circa 1990
Lizbot (host) 7:12:57 PM
@OSsy - Tara is double yellow and gold there! Fuzzy baby chick sweater looks cozy tonight!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:09 PM
@Van Kapeghian - ha!
Mr. Mont 7:15:05 PM
Been in southeast PA all my life. But travelled to lots of places in the southwest I thought had a great vibe. Boulder in the 90s before it got commercial; Taos; Flagstaff. But I think the big island of Hawai'i is where I want to end up.
Lizbot (host) 7:15:33 PM
@0x7EA Roffle / @Gerard Donaghy - I like the four seasons here in the Mid-Atlantic...but actually getting a real spring or fall is a crapshoot! My uncle grew up in Philly and Jersey and moved to Washington state a long time ago. Said he missed the seasons. My mom used to make him regional Philly food care packages.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:43 PM
@Mr. Mont - I loved Taos. Made it to Northern Arizona on a southwest roadtrip around 2017, but stayed in Williams instead of Flagstaff when visiting the Grand Canyon. Next time I'd pick Flagstaff! NOt much in Williams!
John Coffey 7:16:45 PM
I missed Snakefinger? Oh well, I have numerous Residents versions of Picnic in the Jungle.
0x7EA Roffle 7:17:54 PM
It was mostly a warm spring for Summer, and Wet winters. Fall was a nice idea, but the Birch tree pop.
Mr. Mont 7:17:54 PM
@Lizbot True! I would miss hoagies, soft pretzels and scrapple. In PA, we have the (mis)fortune of living in the snack food capital of the world. More chip and pretzel factories here than anywhere else. I'd miss my Wise potato chips too.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:39 PM
@Mr. Mont - My friend who lives on the big island is from Philly originally and moved to Hawai'i in his 30s. He's been there nearly 20 years and loves it. The co-op farm he works on was partially destroyed by that volcanic eruption several years ago. Occupational hazard of farming on the Big Island!
Mr. Mont 7:19:38 PM
True! Looking for real estate, you have to pay attention to what lava zone you're in! Can't say that in many places on Earth.
Lizbot (host) 7:20:07 PM
@John Coffey - I hope surviving members of The Residents are pulling through. I know one member was sick recently and thus they had to cancel their tour
Gerard Donaghy 7:20:59 PM
It's sad that when I visit Philly, all I really eagerly anticipate is the food. The west coast tries, but they just can't land hoagies, steak sandwiches, bagels, pizza.
0x7EA Roffle 7:22:34 PM
Cheesesteaks are a special order item. lol
Lizbot (host) 7:22:59 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Oh i was downright distraught at what L.A. tried to pass off as a hoagie, and I could not find a satisfactory bagel. Maybe it's better now, I haven't been in a few years. Pizza was sad. On the OTHER hand, I'd happily take some West Coast burritos!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:28 PM
@John Coffey - More Residents on the table
Gerard Donaghy 7:24:20 PM
There is a food cart in Portland that has Amarosso Rolls air freighted to them every day. A steak sandwich costs $15, but totally worth it.
John Coffey 7:25:33 PM
@ Liz Homer Flynn's daughter alluded to her father's illness on Instagram. I wasn't gonna go but if they reschedule Eskimo tour in a close venue to Philly I'll go. The Residents documentary from 10 years ago basically pulled the curtain from what fans already knew.
Gerard Donaghy 7:25:49 PM
@lizbot- yes- Last time I was in Philly I got a burrito somewhere near the Italian Market and it was just apalling.
Lizbot (host) 7:26:22 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - oh man, that's so funny. I have a friend who lives directly across from the Amorosso roll factory and the constant intense roll smell becomes oppressive! She's at the point where she can't even smell it anymore, but I sure can!
Mr. Mont 7:26:38 PM
@Gerald Donaghy Now that's commitment. I'm not a cheesesteak fan - sacreligious, I know. I actually don't remember them being a thing growing up. Hoagies, though... mmmmm.
Lizbot (host) 7:26:40 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Our Mexican food situation is kind of sad
Gerard Donaghy 7:27:47 PM
Fun chat. So much more fun that the work zoom call I am now on
Mr. Mont 7:28:05 PM
Camera off?
Lizbot (host) 7:28:42 PM
@John Coffey - oh yeah, the secrecy is long gone! It's fine though. I didn't need the anonymity of the group to keep it interesting. I have been periodically checking The Residents fan group i'm in for news about Homer's health. I was so sad when Hardy Fox died
Lizbot (host) 7:29:19 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - Thanks for dropping by!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:43 PM
@Gerard Donaghy - I lived in a very Mexican neighborhood of South Philly for a while years ago, but the food just is a different focus from the West Coast mexican food. I do love El Jarocho on S. 13th Street (at Ellsworth) in South Philly. Good Huevos al Jarocho!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:24 PM
@Mr. Mont - The lava zones are no joke in Hawaii, and drastically affect insurance rates!
Mr. Mont 7:33:48 PM
My mom was a Philly girl, but my dad is Mexican, so I guess I had the best of both worlds? When grandmom visited, she would fry up corn tortillas for tacos and make her own salsa. I still make them that way. To this day, I can't eat those awful prefab taco shells.
Van Kapeghian 7:36:05 PM
unsettlingly pleasant
0x7EA Roffle 7:36:10 PM
Taco's are a buck and a half on the west coast or were. I got 3 for 15 dollars and it was some kind of Island country taco.
0x7EA Roffle 7:36:24 PM
Here
Lizbot (host) 7:38:42 PM
@Mr. Mont - I hate the prefab tortillas and those hard taco shells. Best tortillas I ever had in the states were from a little place in Tuscon. People lined up just for the tortillas, baked fresh all day. Best I had anywhere was in Mexico from my daughter's friend's grandmom!
Ossy 7:39:13 PM
cheese burritos and nachos are a tbt for me
Lizbot (host) 7:39:52 PM
@Ossy - Making me hungry! I love in San Francisco how they melt a mild provolone-type cheese into the inside of the tortilla!
Mr. Mont 7:40:23 PM
@Lizbot Just a totally different experience. You wouldn't think the tortilla would make a difference but it does. The smell of corn tortillas frying in a pan with a little oil is one of my favorite smells.
Van Kapeghian 7:40:39 PM
This Jose Gonzalez song is amazing
Lizbot (host) 7:41:43 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - Tacos can be so great, or so bad! I had some good ones when I went to Austin for a wedding about 10 years ago. I made it my mission to visit as many well-reviewed taco trucks and restaurants during that trip! The only name I remember is Porchy's, which is better known and has a few locations. It was good, but there were better ones there
Mr. Mont 7:41:44 PM
Really enjoying the whole foggy/rainy/blue edition of DoublePlusGood, Lizbot!!
Lizbot (host) 7:42:34 PM
@Van Kapeghian - "unsettlingly pleasant" - The Ken Nordine track? His voice is so full and round. I could listen to him all day!
Lizbot (host) 7:43:12 PM
@Mr. Mont - Your mom's homemade salsa sounds so good! I love a good fresh salsa
George Korein 7:43:28 PM
++good!! The show truly was
Lizbot (host) 7:43:34 PM
This is pretty much consistently the time of the program when the chat turns to food talk!
Lizbot (host) 7:43:43 PM
Hi George Korein! Thanks!
George Korein 7:43:52 PM
Loved the segue from Tuxedomoon into “why do girls love horses”
George Korein 7:44:01 PM
Dig this version of this tune
George Korein 7:44:31 PM
I like the non pitch shifted voice
Lizbot (host) 7:44:59 PM
@George Korein - I played you Deadweight on Velveteen by José González from Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils on Dolores Records back in 2003! I like his covers
0x7EA Roffle 7:45:10 PM
My God yes, the burrito trucks that hang out on 6th street are awesome at 2 am!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:20 PM
@Mr. Mont - Thanks! Glad you dug it!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:49 PM
@Van Kapeghian - It's from a comp of Arthur Russell covers
George Korein 7:46:51 PM
Is that the comp with subhuman girl?
George Korein 7:47:06 PM
I mean the “evils” comp
0x7EA Roffle 7:47:21 PM
I like the non-vocoder vocals too.
Lizbot (host) 7:47:35 PM
@0x7EA Roffle - One Philly burrito place I miss is Salsalito on South Street. Nowhere near as good as the west coast burritos or southwest, but they were better than most Philly burritos. I have better luck finding good non-burrito or taco mexican fare in Philly than those items. I still dream of the best Mission burrito I ever had in San Francisco
Ossy 7:47:46 PM
liz - mmmmmm gotta try that provolone cheesy!
Ossy 7:48:22 PM
btw liz - been to ensemble arts philly theatre? I was there two fridays ago, for beauty and the beast musical!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:57 PM
@George Korein - Yes! Caesars Palace did that song
Lizbot (host) 7:49:47 PM
@George Korein - What was the story you read about the guy who'd had a horrible day biting into the best burrito of his life, his salvation?? Was that on Electrical audio?
Commie Francis (1) 7:49:53 PM
i was just mulling over playing something off of the who will buy these wonderful evils comp!
Commie Francis (1) 7:50:02 PM
in my sub shift which is coming up after this
0x7EA Roffle 7:50:08 PM
In NoLibs I tried a few Mexican places. Meh at best.
Lizbot (host) 7:50:31 PM
@Ossy - Yes, Ensemble Arts books for The Miller Theatre, Academy of Music, I think the FOrrest Theatre, maybe a few others. A lot of the traveling Broadway shows
Rob from Maryland 7:50:33 PM
Lizbot, we have loved your show tonight, especially all the Stephin Meritt, and Residents-related songs
Lizbot (host) 7:50:38 PM
Hi Commie Francis!
Commie Francis (1) 7:51:01 PM
hi lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:33 PM
@Rob from Maryland - THanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
0x7EA Roffle 7:51:56 PM
Heya Commie. Looks like we have more music than they have ammunition.
Lizbot (host) 7:52:09 PM
@Commie Francis - Oh nice! I love that comp! A mainstay of my very early Doubleplusgood shows!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:16 PM
@Commie Francis - Are you in person or LRB?
Van Kapeghian 7:53:33 PM
spacey wonderfulness. Dig this!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:31 PM
@Van Kapeghian - Yes! Brand new release!
Commie Francis (1) 7:55:27 PM
lrb in case you couldn't tell
Ossy 7:55:37 PM
Liz - Oh yeah, and the sights around there were so NYC lively, especially City Hall! Inside the theatre felt really like an enchanted castle and the beauty and beast play was 'enchanted wonderful'!
michael gudgeon 7:55:44 PM
sets been great lizbot!
Ossy 7:56:08 PM
A sound of music play, I think, is coming this month there!
