Hello!
vildachaya1 12:06:59 PM
Hey Rick - nice to have the gang here
Anthony B. Creamer III 12:09:06 PM
I had breakfast with John Szwed this morning. John appears briefly in the Ra documentary airing tonight on PBS.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:09:23 PM
Hi Tony
Anthony B. Creamer III 12:09:55 PM
Hey Jerry!
vildachaya1 12:10:22 PM
Jerry is very good at not Over Intellectualizing. He barely intellects at all. :) The Record of Sun Ra Hits is all inside stuff and some of my favorite. Also the Disney stuff is an easy entry to Sun Ra for some folks
Anthony B. Creamer III 12:10:41 PM
Szwed's book on RA is ESSENTIAL!
Mike Constantine 12:11:19 PM
As I've mentioned before, the Sun Ra albums on back wall of 3rd Street fascinated me.
Anthony B. Creamer III 12:12:01 PM
So was the Coltrane wall at TSJ!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:12:13 PM
Vilda, my teachers didn't think I was much of an intellectual OR student!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:12:32 PM
Nice memories, thank you guys
Anthony B. Creamer III 12:13:09 PM
I was at TSJ once when someone from the RA camp brought in a pile of records, each bearing original and unique artwork.
Mike Constantine 12:13:51 PM
So cool looking
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:14:48 PM
Anthony, I could send my grandkids to college on that pile if I had it still
Richard Mitnick 12:14:56 PM
Hi Jerry, I have been clicked in. Happy to have you in my digiteria. I hope you have a great show.

Mike Constantine 12:18:50 PM
Oh....THAT Be In
Mike Constantine 12:19:10 PM
I had no idea
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:54 PM
"The meeting of the tribes", made it to the cover of Rolling Stone
Mike Constantine 12:20:59 PM
Right!....heh that's what I used to call my yearly 4th of july party
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:21:30 PM
Rofl, what is happening?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:24:52 PM
Rick, this is one of my favorite organ records
rick hallahan 12:25:33 PM
I've got a window seat in this spaceship. I'm looking out the window and there's a guy playing a B3. So good!
Mike Constantine 12:27:02 PM
Next stop Saturn
rick hallahan 12:27:06 PM
And right next to the guy playing the B3 is a cranking bari sax guy!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:29:06 PM

Roffle 0x7EA 12:36:08 PM
Cacophony of love.
rick hallahan 12:36:46 PM
Speaking of ears, this is music to my ears.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:52 PM
You got it, bro!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:36 PM
A true stero Ra track from back in the day
Mike Constantine 12:41:54 PM
Most were Mono?
vildachaya1 12:42:46 PM
I put a dedication to Sun Ra on my CD Cover - He influenced me so much. I've shared this before - He picked me out as one of 3 costume contest winners at a Halloween show they played. His eyes met mine as I went onstage and he gave me a big smile.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:43:42 PM
Half of Ra's output was mono, often rehearsals at the Ra houose on Morton Street in Germantown
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:04 PM
Now that's a memory, VC! You had the spirit, still do!
vildachaya1 12:45:47 PM
At one point I called the Evidence office and asked if I could purchase the entire Sun Ra Catalog at once from them. I was told sure, but with no discounts offered. I think I ended up owning the all purchased from record stores. I have deliberately left 2 unopened so I can have some 'New" Sun Ra to listen to at some point in the future.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:47:16 PM
Love it, Benj
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:48:08 PM
"Pleasant Twilight" is a twilight on another planet in space.
Russell Woessner 12:48:47 PM
An outstanding show by one of the planet’s foremost experts on Sun Ra!
rick hallahan 12:49:29 PM
This tune is spiritually refreshing.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:50:05 PM
Thank you, Russ!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:51:05 PM
Russ interviewed Ra three times, I believe. Is that correct, Russ?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:52:30 PM
It sounds like they used a fishing rod here
Æars 12:55:56 PM

Li Maria 12:56:41 PM
adding a little Sun...Ra!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:57:03 PM

It was well known that Ra roamed at least one of the Be Ins. I am not positive it was the first one, I have to investigate to refresh my memory. If you can find it, Space Cowboy, it is discussed in the Ra Rolling Stone Cover story

The Really Rosie soundtrack got heavy play in my world last summer. Musically and lyrically so playful! ❤️
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:08:09 PM
Impressive!
Russell Woessner 2:10:21 PM
Really Rosie was one of my kids' favorites!
Mike Constantine 2:10:54 PM
Little Eva once said that her BF beat her because he loved her which inspired Carol
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:11:59 PM
And I guess the result was the song "He hit Me and It Felt Like a Kiss"
Mike Constantine 2:12:53 PM
Indeed
rick hallahan 2:14:06 PM

Hello
Mike Constantine 2:16:13 PM
Hey Rob
rick hallahan 2:16:21 PM
Freddie Scott performs this truly admirably on one of those old PBS specials.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:17:08 PM
Hi Rob, we're in the early sixties listening to songs written by Carol King in celebration of her birthday
Mike Constantine 2:17:11 PM
Ah....those fund raising shows?
Mike Constantine 2:21:41 PM
Never heard of 'em
vildachaya1 2:21:57 PM
@Russell thank you for those links to all the shows
Æars 2:33:27 PM
My favorite John Lennon quote, "we wanted to be Goffin/King of England."
Mike Constantine 2:33:32 PM
Liverpool being a port city, had sailors bringing records back from America so the Beatles got to hear these soul records.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:34:10 PM
Ears, Mike, good stuff!
Mike Constantine 2:34:26 PM
There's your WPRB Beatles minute.
vildachaya1 2:35:36 PM
I saw Carole when I was young - the across the street neighbor worked for Waxie Maxies record stores and gave me 2 tickets to see her at Consitution Hall in DC. It was a snowy night and only half the audience showed up. She had everyone move down close. It was great. I was much older when I learned who she really was and how lucky I was.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:35:46 PM
A great one, you famous guy you. Mike did Beatles related things for WMMR!
vildachaya1 2:36:49 PM
I might have actually wondered why Carole King was playing covers of other bands ;)
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:37:25 PM
Wow, NICE NEIGHBOR! GREAT STORY, Benj. BIG! And you got to drop in Waxie Maxies!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:38:21 PM

Hi Jerry, it's great to hear this Monkees cover (Pleasant Valley Sunday)!
Mike Constantine 2:44:11 PM
Mike and Pete play on this
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:44:54 PM
Great song (anti-establishment) and King's lyrics reflected the changing times!
Russell Woessner 2:45:05 PM
When I listened to Taj Mahal sing Giant Step, I wondered why he was covering a song by the Monkees and who this songwriters Goffin and King were.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:45:53 PM
Haha, Russ!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:46:21 PM
Russell, I heard this Monkees cover when I was around 10, first heard Carole King about 4 years later, and many many more years later learned that she had written Pleasant Valley Sunday
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:46:51 PM

Mike Constantine 2:46:52 PM
Ah....reminds me of Easy Rider
Russell Woessner 2:52:00 PM
One of the best Carole King covers ever! Laura Nyro!

G Jax 2:56:50 PM
Wow, did not know that she wrote wasn't born to follow. I did know she wrote going back which also happens to be my favorite bird too. Yes I know not that kind of bird but I'm talking into this while I'm driving and I just happened to drive past Pleasant Valley Road
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:57:46 PM
G Jax, we also have noted bird expert Rob from Maryland in the house.
