Those early sludgelords did not play around. Buzzov-en most notoriously.

You may dig Lord Mantis if you've not already heard them, they're a really cool blackened sludge band

Roff haaaaaa! She is a hot mess but has taught me a lot about russian culture. She even got me a can of real russian kvas, like a slice of pumpernickel bread in liquid form.

This harsh January winter with heavy snow and tunnels in the snow and subzero temps is like parts of Russia for months on end.

These guys are from Murmansk so this weather is probably summer for them, lol

We gotta summon Ozzy.. For some reason Ozzy listening to bleak russian metal is reassuring in this wobbly world.

I'm not familiar with the genre actually, I know theres a good overlap with black metal but I've personally never really looked into it

TAndy good idea. There are even some dungeon lords in NJ operating. Ranseur is NJ goblin dungeon synth I think.

I never dove too far into it myself, I really enjoyed what I did hear though. A former DJ, PAX, used to play it a lot in their last couple of seasons on the station.

Probably cathartic for a lot of these bands to go mano a mano with the howling void.

DJ, there's a ukraine band called Stoned Jesus you might like. "I am the Mountain" has the longest scream on a song, or close to it. (I know a Mr Bungle song has a superlong scream.)

I love Antic Clay, not just because its quoting Blood Meridian

"red grass, black pasture" is some dark stuff

Will check it out Matt! My favorite screams have to be Peste Noire on Sanie de Siecles

DJ the band Earth has an album wholly inspired by Blood Meridian, called Hex, it really captures the novel
