One thing I can say for the old original Late Night with DL was he had far more interesting musical guests than the other shows!

He used to have Warren Zevon on a lot too, since he was a huge Zevon fan. Zevon went into some dark interesting territory

@Van Kapeghian - THat's one of those happy accidents that used to happen pre-internet when I just didn't have anything else to go on other than word of mouth or hearing stuff on the radio, so so many of my blind record store choices were album art or name-based! It worked out well in general. That's also how I stumbled upon the Soft Machine, since that debut 1968 album had moving cardboard cogs built into the cover, which intrigued me

Roffle, I like that phrase! We have a wood stove and use it for nearly all our heat now. In Morrisville I had a small generator that I used to power my heating oil burning furnace. But mostly we lost our electric in the shoulder seasons, especially in the spring when it was wet and trees would fall more easily. Perhaps look up suicide plug extension cord, and learn how to use it safely, and get a small generator. That might could help if you have heating oil.

@Roffle 0x7EA - True, returning large equipment is a pain, but we lose power at least once per winter, usually 1-3 times, plus a couple other times throughout the year due to wind, etc. Hell, a few weeks ago it was because the electrical pole across the street from us caught fire! So maybe it's worth it

Male to male extension cord triggers the google less. Just be Sure to turn off the main breakers coming into the breaker panel. Then plug one end into a plug that is on the same leg as the device you want powered, and you're going.....

I also think returning a snow blower and a Zamboni is appropriate given the current situation. My building has a generator fortunately.

@Carlos Ramone - Yeah, Philly and a lot of the surrounding area has too many cookiecutter houses. A lot of the old row homes at least have character. The newer grey box houses with boxy baywindows are ubiquitous and it's a bummer.

I used to have a doctor I liked whose practice moved out there, and even though it was really out of the way for me, I still went to her for a few more years because I liked visited Doylestown and making an afternoon of it. Siren, and also The County Theater!

@Roffle 0x7EA - That's one way of putting it.. Parking and traffic have gotten noticeably worse in Philly ever since SEPTA train schedules were scaled back. Some regional rail lines are only running once every two hours on Saturdays and Sundays, and once an hour on weekdays. Not great.

@OSsy - Oof, yeah I weirdly always pictured that accident in a comically unlikely way: That Steve was IN the boat and a ray sorta launched itself, stinger-first, at his chest, which makes no sense whatsoever, but it's always been the image I've had in my head ever since it happened

@Ossy - It makes way more sense that he was in the water and it got its defenses up. Still exceptionally rare for a ray to pierce so deep as to stab a heart! But weirder things have happened.

Hi all! Supposedly the water thing is due to the outdated pipes it travels through after it's treated. I hate to hear about your friend, Lizbot, but I definitely heard from every eye doctor I ever had to keep plain water of any kind away from contacts, and take them out if water gets in your eye :(

@Jim Otter - Yeah, it's scary! One of the many reasons I have never considered contacts. The formative one those was seeing my older cousin turn his eyelid inside out to remove his in front of me when I was little. Freaked me out!

For the ray, likely in close proximity. I always keep my distance from general wild animals haha...and plus when I was Disney water kingdom 2006, was afraid of deep water and couldn't swim well

Water has no taste per say, so if you tell someone that only has had that water that, that is good water, then how would you know otherwise? Vicious circle that one.

@OSsy - And it's better for the animal too! When snorkeling and scuba-diving with sea turtles, ppl are advised to keep some distance, not so much because the turtles are aggressive, because they really aren't, despite having the beak, which they mostly use to crack up shellfish - It's because they get startled and drown, which is so sad! I love sea turts
