I was looking at one of those sock knitting machines, old style. Way above my pay grade, but I was Sooo unhappy with my socks I thought I could knit my own. lol.

Crazy mechanical contraption. And then you have to make it go retrograde to stitch the heel.

Looked into the Mingus v Christy. Kinda nuts. Mingus also recorded 'A Stranger Called the Blues', in 1954. But Christy's was penned by Mel Torme' and Robert Wells, not a name I know.

You've totally understand where I'm at. It seems that everything I read is to trust the pattern.

My mother had this sort of sewing tool that was sort of a light bulb shape, it was for 'darning' sock, I believe. A lost art.

Oh @Lester yes I've seen the darning egg. I think darning is making a come back with visible mending

At a certain point in time it was so cool to patch up your old blue jeans. I did it a few times myself. Probably in elementary school I was taught the 'blanket stitch'. You push the needle through the two pieces of clothe, then bring it back around through the loop.

We have many pillows/cushions around the house filled with lots of useful-tbd--in-what-way bits of fabric/clothes.

OTOH, take all the scrap material and weave it into a rug. Like a circular braid in rag rug.

that is a great idea! A friend of mine had a grandmother who did that with old worn sheets

No scrap left behind!

@Amy- reminds me of an old NY'r comic. Laying around the house on giant pillows, caption reads, You can't call us rich, but we are comfortable. lol

Old worn sheets? Man I love that. Its exactly how I escaped from Alcatraz.

I have a quilting story. My GG grandfather placed on a a needle on the bed, trying to murder his domineering wife. In an unfortunate reversal of fortunes, he sat on the needle himself, and died from lockjaw. Or so the story goes. OK I will take imaginative license.

Fred Flintstone sat on knitting needles, that is how he found out Wilma was preggers with Pebbles

She was knitting booties

Its s family story. I made up a lot of it. But the foundational story was he sat on a pin left after the quilting meet.

my husband sits on pins all of the time. He then places them in random places for me to find. Like onions and soap

He thinks it is hilarious

Stitch, I had a friend who was a little versed in Chinese thought. The idea was to 'extend Qi' energy. Sure cool But walks oftly and carry a small voice.
