Roffle 0x7EA 3:06:38 PM
Always go somewhere like you belong there. That's the trick.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:07:33 PM
i like that! maybe that will be my New Year's resolution.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:08:10 PM
i read something yesterday about making NY resolutions that are just fun or nice vs abstinence and decided I'm in.

Mats Sabbath 3:28:56 PM
horse helpers of the high country !! outta control alliteration
Lester Wiggs 3:29:33 PM
One of these days I am going to forget I had placed some vinyl in the toaster oven and fall off to sleep. Then Jenn, will put on the BeeGees, I will sit up in the bed, and have a fine pastrami sandwich. Cooked.
Mats Sabbath 3:29:36 PM
I appreciate a good organ, be it musical or in a Cronenberg film
Mats Sabbath 3:30:08 PM
Lester Lol!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:30:44 PM
I support toasted pastrami, but the smell of cooked vinyl...oof
Mats Sabbath 3:31:16 PM
baked analog master tapes, it's a thing
Mats Sabbath 3:32:07 PM
I wonder if Albini ever did that, it's kinda cool.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:33:10 PM
baked tapes? why?
Carlos Ramone 3:34:00 PM
@Matt..check Albini’s closet, never know what they might be selling there
Brian D 3:34:22 PM
Ya good organ sets. Love it when you dig into the garagey world.
Lester Wiggs 3:34:47 PM
We are a flawed species. But you cannot turn your back on your own kind.
Lester Wiggs 3:35:23 PM
this is a dirct quote from the great kuchar. Not mine.
Brian D 3:37:30 PM
Jen: They sometimes have to bake older magnetic tape masters to get the particles to adhere to the tape. Old tapes start to fall apart. Playing them once more to do a remaster / remix would ruin them and cause the particles to stick to the tape heads. So they figured out if they bake the tapes at a certain temp under strict conditions * they can get one more hail mary chance to play the tape and the particles stay put (*not some home oven kitchen baking but a very careful controlled environment)
Mats Sabbath 3:37:59 PM
@dj jen you can bake old master tapes to remaster albums, ween did it with their first album
Bike R 3:38:22 PM
More organ!!
Mats Sabbath 3:38:23 PM
what Brian D said
Jen Redlights (host) 3:38:34 PM
@brian oh wow, that's fascinating, i had no idea!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:38:55 PM
And glad you all dig the garage! we'll get more on.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:39:10 PM
you all remind me that i really need to take care of all those old tapes in my closet!
Mats Sabbath 3:39:23 PM
tape mold
Brian D 3:39:23 PM
Ya happens sometimes with certain eras or batches of tape I guess. Not always.
Carlos Ramone 3:39:33 PM
Or you can get master tapes and throw them in the Mississippi, like the replacements allegedly did!!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:39:48 PM
terrible idea, replacements!
Brian D 3:39:54 PM
Oh we're not talking your plastic cassettes ha... talking metal canisters of reels etc
Mats Sabbath 3:40:37 PM
Carlos LOL! I heard a rumour it's Dave Pirner yelling at cops on the Mats song Stink?
Mats Sabbath 3:41:06 PM
2-inch tape and suchlike
Jen Redlights (host) 3:41:09 PM
ah, got it! i had never heard that before, super interesting.
Lester Wiggs 3:41:12 PM
in this temporal reality, all will be lost. Everyone you knew, everything you love, all you hopes and all your dreams. All will be lost.
Carlos Ramone 3:41:50 PM
@Matt..could be..same location and time frame
Lester Wiggs 3:43:31 PM
But do keep a sense of humor.
Mats Sabbath 3:43:33 PM
the ol' Mats lore
Mats Sabbath 3:44:26 PM
jen I am excite about Sangeet into RRL !
aiffrig 3:45:04 PM
dude , where did you get the ludes
Brian D 3:45:09 PM
In another world there is the "Elmer's Wood Glue" vinyl record treatment. You take old, dirty muddy, dusty, moldy etc records (possibly damaged in floods, moldy basements, kids throwing them in various rivers - see below -etc or what have you)... .and you put the record on an older beater turntable. Apply glue blobs, turn the table and flatten out the blobs smoothly with a popsicle stick or some such... wait.... when glue skin surface dries you peel it off to remove the dirt. Repeat side B
Jen Redlights (host) 3:45:22 PM
right on! I have a suspicion that Sangeet may be out tomorrow too, but we'll see how it goes
Brian D 3:45:23 PM
Kinda like those face pore cleansing strips!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:45:45 PM
@brian HAHAHAHAHAH wow, that's pretty clever!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:46:10 PM
and i guess more efficient than tape because the glue gets into the grooves. But wouldn't water work?
Mats Sabbath 3:46:43 PM
glue blobs! Jen this talk of glue calls for some Gas Huffer
Jen Redlights (host) 3:46:59 PM
haha!
Brian D 3:47:06 PM
I have heard people get good results. Saw it online in various forums about 20-25 years ago. But I believe that practice goes back even further
Mats Sabbath 3:47:10 PM
or a glue huffing punk oufit as such
Brian D 3:47:34 PM
Mats Sabz: and a side of Scotch-Guard (tm) bongs.
michael gudgeon 3:47:44 PM

Mats Sabbath 3:47:50 PM
Brian D oh chit
Jen Redlights (host) 3:48:41 PM
ON IT
Mats Sabbath 3:48:53 PM
Brian D, I am a bit of a Molly, seeing Ween with a live rhythm section was weird at first
Mats Sabbath 3:49:53 PM
Crack Cloud !!
Brian D 3:50:43 PM
My first Ween show was Trenton State WTSR Radiothon 1994. Ratskellar. I believe it was one of the first few shows with a full band (Sim Cain on d and Andrew Weiss on b). Great time. We had no idea that it was such a shift in their live experience. Just a few weeks/months prior it was all about the A-DAT player for them.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:52:16 PM
what's up, @michael?
aiffrig 3:53:39 PM
WTSR when it was the Alternative , whoops my bad that bumper sticker was from the late 80's
Jen Redlights (host) 3:54:19 PM
I haven't listened to TSR in many years, but right around then it was terrific.
Jen Redlights (host) 3:54:25 PM
(90s)
Brian D 3:55:08 PM
Aka "The College of New Jersey" ... great name change. Really rolls off the tongue. WTSR had a pesky signal. On a good day I could get it in most of my travels through Lower Bucks but... off an on.
michael gudgeon 3:55:08 PM
not much chillen gaming prbing @jen!
Jen Redlights (host) 3:55:30 PM
sounds like a perfect day to me
Brian D 3:56:05 PM
WTSR had a fun weekly show with classic TV show themes. That was a hoot. Miss Claudette reggae Saturday afternoon good stuff too

Jen Redlights (host) 4:01:22 PM
thanks!
Mike Lupica 4:02:06 PM
Also, @Brian, I am contractually obligated to publicly acknowledge any mention of WTSR's Radiothon. Legend has it the actual Pagans (of Cleveland, USA) once played Radiothon, though I suspect anyone who might be able to confirm this is probably dead now, I suspect. I too saw Ween there... and I think that band Stumbling Way, who were from Trenton. I'm sure I saw Wilbo play in any number of bands there, too, but that was before I knew him.
Lester Wiggs 4:02:49 PM
@mike Audio Compression into Discrete Codes:A neural audio codec (e.g., EnCodec from Meta, used in MusicGen; or SoundStream; or Residual Vector Quantization in MusicLM/Jukebox) compresses the raw waveform. It often starts by converting the audio to a spectrogram (a visual representation of frequencies over time). Then, Vector Quantization (VQ) is applied: The continuous features are mapped to the nearest "code" from a learned codebook (like a dictionary of sound snippets). This produces acousti
Lester Wiggs 4:03:35 PM
Haha Get Your ...ass to the Kyber pass
Jen Redlights (host) 4:03:37 PM
@mike radiothon was live in person, or on the air? that's rad
Jen Redlights (host) 4:03:51 PM
Wilbo probably knows EVERYTHING
Brian D 4:05:44 PM
I will again repeat (contractually) that I won a prize during the WTSR Radiothon raffle. Probably at that Ween show. But was not a) the Spinal Tap Colander (yes, colander not calendar! Ha those crafty lads!) and it was not b) the Spinal Tap 8 Track Tape of their then new LP "Break Like the Wind" (a real working 8 track tape, blue plastic iirc and quite a novelty, throwback format even at that time)... but my prize was c) a CD copy of Tom Waits "The Black Rider" not a bad haul
Lester Wiggs 4:06:37 PM
Pretty Cool Brian. Do you remember the Omni Club? Or perhaps London Victory Club?
Brian D 4:07:18 PM
Carlos, yes Khyber, Nicks was a very nice bracket keys/ bookends of 2nd Shtreet sounds. Lester, no not sure of those mentions
Roffle 0x7EA 4:07:50 PM
A statistical victory. :)
Lester Wiggs 4:08:59 PM
TSR The Trenton State Radio.
Francis 4:09:09 PM
nice!!!
Jen Redlights (host) 4:09:33 PM
@brian a colander??!
Brian D 4:10:01 PM
Yes Jen. A Spinal Tap Colander. Lots of laughs from the crowd. They knew how to nail the swag
aiffrig 4:10:02 PM
Brian, this goes way back won albums from tsr had to pick up at college , actually remember meeting Kate P
Jen Redlights (host) 4:10:33 PM
that is amazing. memorable swag is quite uncommon.
Lester Wiggs 4:10:35 PM
We Strained some things. It was strange.
Jen Redlights (host) 4:11:03 PM
I will acknowledge, mostly for mike's sake, if he's still here, that I just threw away a can of Flipper canned tuna.
Lester Wiggs 4:11:37 PM
Buckethead has a colander, thus he would be better known as
Jen Redlights (host) 4:11:52 PM
also this is the request huffing set, and I'll note that this Plosivs song actually mentions huffing which was a TOTAL ACCIDENT
Jen Redlights (host) 4:12:01 PM
@brian GENIUS
Brian D 4:12:03 PM
It lined up right along with the Stonehenge measurements error... perhaps someone misheard "colander" for "calendar" on a scratchy transatlantic phone call with different accents hahahah. A joke executed physically in 3D as swag
Bike R 4:12:38 PM
Love this WTSR history!
Lester Wiggs 4:12:48 PM
Strainerhead. Shredding.
Jen Redlights (host) 4:12:54 PM

Bike R 4:14:35 PM
About the glue vinyl cleaning…
Jen Redlights (host) 4:15:14 PM
precisely. showing we can make sets out of anything. ;)
Brian D 4:16:15 PM
I never tried that wood glue on a record cleaning trick. Never needed to do so. But it does sound interesting.
Lester Wiggs 4:17:00 PM
@briam Once tokenized, the song becomes a long sequence of tokens (like a "sentence" in music). The AI (usually a Transformer) can:Predict next tokens to continue or vary the song. Condition on text prompts (e.g., "make this rock song into jazz"). Mix sequences: Blend tokens from multiple songs, insert parts, or guide with a melody from one song into the style of another. For mashups: Tokenize Song A and Song B, then generate a new sequence combining elements (e.g., vocals tokens from A over in
Lester Wiggs 4:17:42 PM
I am sorry about al of this. But keep rocking. We shall overcome
Brian D 4:17:48 PM
This Wax Chattels is definitely a WPRB 2020 playlist memory deal.
Jen Redlights (host) 4:18:09 PM
i love this machine gun sound
Mats Sabbath 4:18:25 PM
Wax Chattels is intense
aiffrig 4:18:26 PM
Wtsr brutalizing psa's especially the bad effects of cocaine , no i don't have the tapes
Jen Redlights (host) 4:18:40 PM
just avoid huffing
Lester Wiggs 4:18:46 PM
Ace King Four Seven.
Brian D 4:18:51 PM
Lester, have you tried to Tolkienize the songs? You can get them to convert into impossibly long multivolume sets in different worlds.
Mike Lupica 4:20:08 PM
Sorry, got called away for something. Yes, Radiothon was live in person (in Trenton State College's Rathskellar!) AND on the air. Also, I cannot fucking believe you threw away that priceless Flipper tuna! For reference: https://c.im/@mlupica/111768088171202034
Mats Sabbath 4:20:18 PM
Carlos request huffing songs of every wprb dj let's do it
Roffle 0x7EA 4:20:48 PM
"Citizen Ruth" is my all time huffing favorite movie.
Carlos Ramone 4:20:59 PM
Starting with first Ramones album
Mats Sabbath 4:21:04 PM
Haaaaaaa!! Roff
Lester Wiggs 4:21:23 PM
No. Its important to understand how. how it works. What I did was ask for Frank Zappa to run an uber service, and pick up Schopenhauer. at thre train station. Then listen in on the conversation.
Mats Sabbath 4:21:34 PM
I prefer Gummo, or that tragic Philip Seymour Huffman huffing film
Roffle 0x7EA 4:21:56 PM
Mat saw the movie! lol
Jen Redlights (host) 4:22:18 PM
@mike hahahhahaha thank you for memorializing it! I was kind of worried it would explode.
Roffle 0x7EA 4:22:21 PM
Huffman? lol
Carlos Ramone 4:22:41 PM
I once threw out a jar of Bobby Clarke peanut butter
Mats Sabbath 4:22:57 PM
I've had huffers as social work clients and they are a fascinating lot.

Where was the tuna purchased?
Roffle 0x7EA 4:24:10 PM
It's magical from the King O' the Ocean.
Mike Lupica 4:24:16 PM
Hot Glue Gun! Maybe the only time 90s indie rock tried to make phaser guitar FX cool.
Jen Redlights (host) 4:24:23 PM
Flipper's PR company, @roffle
Jen Redlights (host) 4:24:46 PM
@mike that's the part where the flames shoot out and he circles the guitar around his head, right?
Lester Wiggs 4:25:00 PM
Bobby Clarke Peanut Butter? You made the right spectral analysis.
Roffle 0x7EA 4:25:54 PM
Dangerous guitars are what our parents warned us about.
Jen Redlights (host) 4:26:46 PM
that one scream from Guy makes me laugh EVERY DARN TIME
Carlos Ramone 4:26:46 PM

Mats Sabbath 4:27:20 PM

Lester Wiggs 4:28:50 PM
At 2:17 a.m., the app pinged. A new rider: Arthur Schopenhauer, verified account, pickup at the corner of Wilshire and Existential Dread.Frank pulled the pod down through the sky-traffic with a flourish, landing soft as a rimshot. The door irised open.Schopenhauer climbed in, looking exactly like his portraits: severe black coat, white cravat, hair like an angry hedgehog. He carried no luggage, only a small leather-bound copy of The World as Will and Representation.“Mr. Zappa,” he said in crisp
Mats Sabbath 4:30:03 PM
pretty sure Schopenhauer invented punk
Lester Wiggs 4:30:28 PM
Schopenhauer bristled. “The Will is not to be trifled with. It is the blind, ceaseless striving that underlies all phenomena. Music, at best, offers temporary respite—an aesthetic contemplation that quiets the Will. But when the final chord fades, the suffering resumes. And after death? Nothing. Complete annihilation. The most honest philosophy demands we accept this.”
