Jerry I attempted to watch the Mummers parade yesterday but they kicked me out for being sober.

Try explaining the Mummers thing to someone not from Philadelphia.

They are still thawing out the costumes.

Livestreams are usually about $20 for nonmembers and $5 for members of the Jazz Gallery.

Back in the day I got to march in the Mummers Parade as a musician backing one of the fancy brigades. The real hoot was the "after parade" down 2nd Street. Even the cops were imbibing along that route.

I marched in Mummers' one years playing the crash symbol for a friends group, and people were yelling out from of the crowd that I had not seen in years. So drunk, so fun.

Jerry, I did not. But after the parade the fancy unit invited all the musicians back to their South Philly clubhouse for great Italian food and much libation.

For one year I drove a cab at night out of Wynnefield. On my first night I was introduced to an African-American driver named Herbie, he stuck out his hand and immediately started talking to me in Yiddish.

I was embarrassed because he knew more Yiddish than I did. It turns out he worked for a Jewish butcher on 52nd street for years.

Ha Wynnfield? Used to go to the City Line Deli. Also a few meals at Hymies in Merion. HS friends father worked at City Line deli. Whatever your opinion, there is no arguing with great food and great service.

The Pickle Bar at Hymies! I don't drink so was one of the best bars I'd been to.

I have a Jewish deli/restaurant near me, Ben & Irv's...used to be really good

Ben and Irv's is still pretty good - was there the other day after a move at Penn Center

I had done work in Sam Barson's house after he had passed. He had bought the business. It sits above route 23 just before the crossing of Mill Creek.

My local library had a good selection of blues records you could take out - I learned a lot of blues music from my local library

Koch's deli was the best!

It was pretty forward thinking for a library in the early seventies

Beautiful spot. The original Barsons was in Wynnefield, that's where my family used to go for Corned Beef sndwiches and gargantuan pastrami sandwiches on Rye with mustard

Koch's. Lunch meat. I got some. But anyway Free People Store was next door.

Another place with free food while you waited in line - The Wagon Wheel on Sansom downtown - he had meatballs you could eat while you waited to order - once again you weren't hungry when you got to the front of the line
