Yunus Husain Khan (1927-1991) was the son and disciple of Vilayat Husain Khan, vocalist representing the Agra gharana.

Rudrapatna Krishnashastri Srikantan (1920-2014) was born in Rudrapatna, Karnataka. He was mentored by his brother, violinist R. K. Venkatarama Shastri, then by Veene Subbanna and Chowdiah.

Surinder Kaur was born in Lahore in 1929. She helped popularize Punjabi music in a career spanning nearly six decades. She passed away in New Jersey in 2006.

Vishnu Govind Jog, better known as V. G. Jog (Bombay: 1922 – 2004), was the foremost exponent of the violin in the Hindustani music tradition in the 20th century, and is credited for introducing this instrument into Hindustani music. The violin was already well established in Carnatic music before then.

Jnan Prakash Ghosh (Kolkata: 1909 – 1997) often known as 'Guru' Jnan Prakash Ghosh was an Indian harmonium and tabla player from Farukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music and musicologist.

S. Sowmya (born in 1969) is a Carnatic music singer. She learnt music initially from her father Dr. Srinivasan, and later from Dr. S. Ramanathan and T. Muktha. Sowmya made her concert debut at the age of 11.

Emani Sankara Sastry (1922 – 1987), was a renowned veena player. Born in Draksharama, Andhra Pradesh, he came from a family of celebrated classical musicians. His father was Vainika Emani Achyutarama Sastri.

Roshan Ara Begum (1917-1982) was born in Kolkata. She was the cousin of Abdul Karim Khan, the founder of the Kirana gharana, and received training from him for 15 years.

Kadri Gopalnath (1949 – 2019) pioneered the saxophone in Carnatic music. One of his teachers was vocalist and mridangam player T. V. Gopalakrishnan.

Madurai Thirumalai Nambi Seshagopalan (born, 5 September 1948) is a Carnatic singer, musician and composer.

Tiruvidaimarudur Ramaswamy Mahalingam (6 November 1926 – 31 May 1986) affectionately known as Mali, was a flautist who revolutionized the style of flute-playing in Carnatic music.

Born in 1947 in Chennai, L. Subramaniam made his first public appearance at age 6. Went on to earn a Master's degree in music and teach South Indian music at Cal Arts. He completed medical training at Madras Medical College and registered as a medical practitioner before leaving for the U.S.

He is also the brother of L. Vaidyanathan and L. Shankar. His uncles include Ramnad Raghvan and Ramnad Krishnan.

Abida Parveen was born in 1954 in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan. She received initial training in vocal music from her father Ghulam Haider, and later from Salamat Ali Khan. She has been dubbed as the 'Queen of Sufi music', performing mainly ghazals, qawwali, and light classical thumris.

Narasimhan Ravikiran was born in 1967 in Mysore. A child prodigy, he was able to identify about 325 ragas (melodic scales) and 175 talas (rhythmic cycles) of Carnatic music at the age of 2.

The melody for Rabindranath Tagore's "Purano shei diner kotha" ("Memories of the Good Old Days") was inspired to a large degree by the Scottish folk tune now associated with the Robert Burns poem "Auld Lang Syne". It is sung here by Hemanta Mukherjee.
