Indiana! Have only been thru via train

Was there this past winter; it's a whole different life out there. Very liminal. I had never seen land so flat and barren

When I was in Louisville, Kentucky, for work, I walked across the river into Indiana for an hour or something. And I saw about 10 species of birds. So I have been in/to Indiana

When my wife went with her son to Wisconsin and Iowa to look at colleges, they flew into Chicago, drove to WI, then drove to IA. He called the Iowa experience "high tide in a sea of corn"

Oh yeah, I'm sure it would be a completely different experience in the warmer seasons. It was also -5 degrees on average and windy when I was there

Minus 5!!?? That's f'ing cold. Reminds me of the time me and two friends flew to Boston then drove Vermont to look for rare owls. The temperature at sunrise at our motel's city was -15 degrees F and where we were going was -22F. (By the time we got there at noon it might have been -5F)

At that point I'd just accept that the universe wants me to stay inside

Understood! The owls were fine with it, and we saw both of the ones in Vermont we went to see ... Northern Hawk Owls, which hunt in the daytime. It's a species which normally never gets as far south as Vermont.
