I am always bending Jerry’s ear about the greatness and uniqueness of 1971 to 1974 pop but this weeks charts 1975 were perhaps the nadir of pop. Number one song the execrable Island Girl by Elton John

"Farrah, it turns out, is living in Kingsland, Ga., a few miles from the Florida border, where he is known as the Rev. Anthony Domacase, the pastor for the last 17 years at the Jerusalem #1 Baptist Church. “I don’t toot my own horn,” he said in a phone interview. “I played saxophone with different Christian music groups down here, but I never said, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m Shamek Farrah!’ No, I just fit in with the scenery.”"

I remember a friend making an impassioned statement about 1973 being the greatest year in recorded music...

I like the title World of the Children. When I watch my 9 year old granddaughter I often wonder what goes through that mind!!

WFMU Gaylord and Uncle Michael had a 1972 vs 1973 showdown show. 1973 was declared the victor. I think by 1975 the record execs and promo and DJS were paying the piper for their rampant substance abuse

The industry slowly became a beast once profits really soured. There was a whole infrastructure for music that disappeared, a case of collecting the apples without caring for the roots.

The HBO series TREME had a New Orleans popular musician James Sugar Boy Crawford who would only play gospel. He was popular jazz performer severely beaten by N. O. police.

Always try to keep the percussive end fed....

Was able to see the great local saxophonist David Puryear over the weekend busking at 4th and Market.Keeping the legacy of Rufus Harley and Byard Lancaster alive!
