Welcome to monday Jazz!
Patrick White (1) 12:04:27 PM
Greetings to Dan and his listeners
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:09:46 PM
Hey Patrick! How'd the World Series work out for ya?
Patrick White (1) 12:13:21 PM
I was crushed. I was rooting for Toronto . I actually went to 2 games there this summer. Great atmosphere
Patrick White (1) 12:14:43 PM
This weeks Fugitive episode had Philadelphia actor Bill Gunn .Spparently he made some historically significant movie called Kash and Ganja from 1973.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:17:14 PM
I taught a class on Bill, fascinating figure. Gay, a close friend of James Dean's, wrote onne of the great films of the early '70s, Hal Ashby's THE LANDLORD....
Richard Mitnick 12:18:30 PM
It took forever to find your Chat. I just donated $103.30 in honor of your program.
Patrick White (1) 12:20:07 PM
He write The Landlord??Wow that’s an underrated great movie abandoned by TCM
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:20:17 PM
Thank You Richard, much appreciated!
Patrick White (1) 12:21:01 PM
That Dias De Los Muerte parade looked epic in the pictures I saw. Were you able to go?
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:22:30 PM
The first time I saw the LANDLORD I was about 15 minutes in before I stopped and thought, "My God, who wrote this?" The whole racial attitude stood out, because there had been almost no Hollywood films written by a black screenwriter at that time.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:22:59 PM
No, unfortunately no parades for me...
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:23:39 PM
This ethereal version of "Somewhere" closes out the new Lloyd double set.....
TAndy: Monthly Doner🥙 12:24:14 PM
Good afternoon guys!
Patrick White (1) 12:24:44 PM
I like how the movie veered from comic to serious to ludicrous to tragic.great performances. Sad that Diane Sands passed away at such a young age
Patrick White (1) 12:27:21 PM
I thought I was Elvised out but I am enjoying Peter Guralnicks new bio on Colonel Parker.True genius and shrewd negotiator. Much more than than that godawful Tom Hanks portrayal
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:30:36 PM
When gI heard about it I thought, "Rehabilitating Colonel Tom's reputation!?! Who's next, "Murray Wilson?"
Patrick White (1) 12:32:11 PM
Peter Guralnick is such a good bio writer I think he could make Air Supply interesting.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:40:41 PM
Yeah, I love his writing on elvis and Memphis music...
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:50:50 PM
Have a friend who said his tinnitus keeps him from enjoying vibraphonists.....
Anthony B. Creamer III 1:04:42 PM
Patricia is a proud graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia!!
Bike R (monthly$) 1:06:48 PM
Love that from Patricia!
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:10:36 PM
Yeah, she's the greatest! Gotta get her in for an interview some day!
Richard Mitnick 1:10:54 PM
I appreciated the on air acknowledgement. Thanks. I am also supporting Jerry Gordon and Marvin Rosen.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:11:33 PM
Great shows as well!
Richard Mitnick 1:15:18 PM
Last Saturday night I caught the Jazz program at Midnight. Excellent. But at midnight not much audience. I wrote to the station manager to see if she could be moved to an earlier hour, good for her and the station. I ask for your influence to help in this, as I will also ask Jerry. The loss of Will Constantine Jr and the Sunday Jazz program cut deep. Please try to help if you can. Thanks.
Bike R (monthly$) 1:24:30 PM
@mitnich w you, sir!
Richard Mitnick 2:15:00 PM
For the horrors of algorithms read "Filterworld" by Kyle Chayka. He holds up Paul Cavalcante [now at WBGO] as one of the last curators of music on the radio and decrys how our culture has been flattened. Sounds like it is right up your alley. Surely he would approve what happens at WPRB. Too bad the station was not on his radar.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:16:48 PM
Yeah, it's crazy that people listen to those computer generated playlists, it seems like they rarely surprise ya....
Bud Burroughs 2:32:24 PM
Grateful Dead vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux has apparently died today
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:35:35 PM
Just spotted that...
Patrick White (1) 2:41:30 PM
Also RIP to Scottish Folk Singer Archie Fisher frequently appeared locally and a Weingart perennial
Patrick White (1) 2:42:17 PM
Richard Paul Calvacante is currently airing on NYC classical WQXR
Bud Burroughs 2:43:55 PM
Oh wow, yeah! Archie Fisher had an incredibly long career
Patrick White (1) 2:50:23 PM
Bud I saw him at Cavalry Church on Baltimore Avenue about 8 years ago. Great showman
Patrick White (1) 2:52:54 PM
Thanks Dan for a great 3 hours and providing us with a non algorithmic pre programmed corporate approved playlist of nonsense!!
Bud Burroughs 2:53:40 PM
I saw him at the philadelphia folk festival probably at least a decade ago
Marcus Watt 2:54:27 PM
And the Murry Wilson joke was excellent.
John Ceneviva 2:57:35 PM
Kudos. That was a great show, at least the last hour I was tuning in. Thanks.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:57:37 PM
Ha! Hey Mark!
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:57:54 PM
