The most local band I've played in ages.

@Jon, wrt 1 hour shows, I was surprised/sad a few years ago when I realized that WMUC (U MD College Park) had gone from 3 hour shows to 1 or 2 hour shows. Then I realized that more of the ~30k undergrad student body could have radio shows, and the shorter time-frame was better for their schedules as well as more programming diversity.

Definitely pro-programming diversity but hard to learn / succeed by failing if you're only on an hour a week I believe.

Hi Jon, I am just back to WPRB after a long absence. I am saddened that the station is down from four Jazz programs to just two. I especially miss Will Constantine Jr and his alter ego, Latin Jazz impresario Rico Calamari.You have been around the station a long time. Maybe you have some sway and can help us get back at least the two Jazz chairs we have lost. A fair amount of what I am hearing could be called "noise" ala John Zorn. I admire WPRB's hands off approach to what is aired, but...

Hey Jon, there's a good reason I try to tune in to your show and tonight the gem was The Untouchable All-Girl Band! Took a quick peek at the linked article and it's gonna be another rabbit hole to go down. Shame Jerry Blavat passed away as I definitely sought out his memories of the band.

Richard, good to hear from you. Will's lack of a computer (and lack of willing to get online) made it impossible to broadcast on WPRB when we went remote in 2020. He's welcome to try and return to the airwaves anytime but he has never mentioned any interest when our paths have crossed.

John, the piece Mike A wrote for Ugly Things about that band was a real eye-opener since it all happened in my childhood backyard! I hope more recordings exist as Tollbooth is very of the time AND very New Jersey!

Rob, I think the digital-only approach is going to result in much stronger DJs than giving everyone an hour-long show. You learn so much more about yourself and doing a show with that second (or especially third) hour.

I had something else planned but it violated two of my rules and I didn't realize. Would have played same label twice in a set (which I avoid) and would have included a collaboration with a band heard earlier tonight (also avoid).

Thus, Bird People pulled in because the track was in my "to play" folder and it was the right length. The process!

I think "label once per set" is pretty standard unwritten radio rules.

But I always think it is odd (personally) when someone returns to play the same band later in their show. There are so many other bands!
