Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:20 PM
Russ, last night I turned the game off for 2 minutes and turned it back on. I'm glad I did.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:52 PM
What business was Squeaky operating, that capitalist?
Christine 𓅓 12:11:16 PM
Enjoy, @TAndy!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:21 PM

Hi Rob F, thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:33:21 PM
I look at Christine as the manager and the scorekeeper.
Christine 𓅓 12:34:44 PM
How much does that job pay, btw?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:11 PM
Unfortunately you have to pay, Christine!
Russell Woessner 12:37:57 PM
My completely unsolicited and irrelevant recommendation for tonight: Last chance to see my friend Dan Kitrosser in Queer Window https://www.broadstreetreview.com/reviews/philly-fringe-2025-dan-kitrosser-is-karen-tenderness-in-queer-window
Christine 𓅓 12:38:42 PM
@Jerry, that's fine. WPRB can have lots of my money.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:42:30 PM
You pre-paid!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:44:01 PM
Thank you, Russ
Jimbo Daily 12:44:25 PM
Hey Jerry. Long time listener, first time chatter. Howyudoin? Do you have pics of your record store? Put them on the playlist page sometime?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:46:49 PM
Hi Jimbo! Thanks for chatting! I put one on the landing page of Spinitron, I know it's there because I see it when I log in, don't know if it is visible to other. Thank you for asking!
Russell Woessner 12:51:17 PM
Yep, you are right there in front of the Coltrane wall in all your long-haired glory!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:51:44 PM
And my paisley shirt!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:52:23 PM
Jimbo, I have one good exterior shot of the store I will try and post!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:52:46 PM
Do they make paisley anymore?
Russell Woessner 1:06:39 PM
Here’s a link to the Franklin Kiermyer show at Lincoln Center. September 23, of course, is John Coltrane birthday. https://ticketing.jazz.org/19332/19333

Brian D 1:18:00 PM
It may be hard to imagine a world where you tuned away from WPRB but ... WKCR will be doing their annual 24 hour John Coltrane marathon starting at midnight on his birthday Sep 23 (as soon as Sep 22 fades away at 11:59 pm...). They do so many of these 24 or more hour marathons for great jazz and other birthdays.
Brian D 1:19:43 PM
I heard the Jim Hall & Ron Carter duet of St Thomas the other day in honor of Sonny. A great stripped down version. Great interplay.
Russell Woessner 1:23:19 PM
I bought a sealed copy of this Sonny Rollins and Big Band LP for $1 at a porch sale!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:24:26 PM
Get out of here
Russell Woessner 1:26:15 PM
Big band on one side and trio on the other side. Plus solo version of Body and Soul. Great stuff!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:26:58 PM
Now I know someone else who has the album. Sealed, yet!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:32:34 PM
Someone's cough will last for eternity
Christine 𓅓 1:36:29 PM
Ha ha
Patrick White 1:56:30 PM
They called Sonny Rollins Newk because of his resemblance to Brooklyn Dodgers great Don Newcombe. Great Day in Harlem photo . He is the last person alive.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:57:38 PM
Thanks, Patrick!!! Don Newcombe, he was a great one
Bruce Kelso 2:04:09 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:14:45 PM
Hahhaha
Mike Constantine 2:14:57 PM
Hell of an August too
David Shortell 2:16:29 PM
I sometimes confuse this Turtles song title with Spanky & Our Gang's "Like To Get To Know You".
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:17:00 PM
Hi David!
Roffled Synapse 2:17:31 PM
@Mike, absolutely mind blowing August!
Mike Constantine 2:18:16 PM
Loved it !
Bruce Kelso 2:18:18 PM

Brian D 2:23:01 PM
WITH A HIT SINGLE THAT'S ON THE CHARTS!!!???
Brian D 2:23:27 PM
Can't hear this without the Frank and Mothers stage comments ha
Bruce Kelso 2:23:52 PM
they wernt happy bout the ray produced it so they did their own mixes. more of a full band sound on version 2. both are great tho
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:24:19 PM

Bruce Kelso 2:26:22 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:27:44 PM
Mike, do you know this song from WFIL? Were you listening to WFIL in 1967?
Mike Constantine 2:29:15 PM
I was....but don't recall this
G Jax 2:30:28 PM
Cool just got here. Never heard that Camaro spot before I know Paul Revere the Raiders did a Pontiac GTO one.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:30:47 PM
Hey G Jax!
G Jax 2:31:04 PM
JERRY!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:31:15 PM
What it is?!
G Jax 2:31:35 PM
Could it be anything else?
David Shortell 2:31:47 PM
Yeah, I didn’t hear that Camaro commercial on all the other Turtles tribute programs I’ve listened to lately!
Mike Constantine 2:32:46 PM
A night many years ago on a mind altering substance trying to figure out what the hell this song was about
Mike Constantine 2:34:26 PM
Heh....we were mis hearing the lyrics as "they took her away"
Liana Gordon Kahn 2:35:19 PM
popular chat! hi everyone! special shout out to grandpa G and JK
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:35:27 PM
Perhaps too many voices for mind altering substances
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:36:41 PM
Haha, thank you wonderful daughter who delivered one of the two greatest grandkids possible!!!!! (Along with Josh the K)
David Shortell 2:37:06 PM
The Turtles’ "Grim Reaper of Love" B-side “Come Back” is a different song than “She’ll Come Back”. That latter song went unreleased until their 1970 compilation “Wooden Head”, but they mime to it in the dumb 1966 movie “Out of Sight”.
Sheila Kohen 2:38:08 PM
I soo remember that Camaro commercilal!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:31 PM
Hi Sheila!!!
Joshua Kahn 2:38:32 PM
JK <3 LGK
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:38:59 PM

Russell Woessner 2:40:04 PM

Bruce Kelso 2:41:21 PM
elenore is happy together with the chords switched. where happy goes up elonore goes down when happy goes up elonore goes down
Sheila Kohen 2:41:22 PM
Hi from my visit to the Wildwoods too!
Brian D 2:43:04 PM
Yep, nothing more romantic than "you are the best my pride and joy et cetera"! Not many people know but "et cetera" is Latin for "and that guy that used to play bass for Chicago Transit Authority then got interested in martial arts in the 80s"
Sheila Kohen 2:43:10 PM
Great show as always.!! Thanks Jer! As Val n Ken came down here too
Mike Constantine 2:44:07 PM
lol Brian
Mike Constantine 2:44:54 PM
Have fun in the Wildwoods Sheila the K!
Brian D 2:45:02 PM
There is a little zombie flavor in the turtle and a little turtle flavor in the zombie
G Jax 2:46:27 PM
yes, I' have repressed turtle urges…
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:46:40 PM
Bruce, I love that!
Russell Woessner 2:46:52 PM
I feel so excited!
Brian D 2:47:02 PM
Turtles, way better flavor than the Crunchy Frog
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:47:47 PM
Sheila, have a great time!!! And you hosted Val and Ken! You are the greatest!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:48:05 PM
Haha G Jax
Brian D 2:48:12 PM
This is the one that was re-done on Them or Us I believe
Mike Constantine 2:48:42 PM
Flo and Eddie did some great background vocals for a couple of TRex albums.
Russell Woessner 2:48:54 PM
I would be so delighted
G Jax 2:48:57 PM
Never ate turtle. Or fried for that matter. I have eaten alligator though.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:49:13 PM
From Funky Nothingness
G Jax 2:49:28 PM
*frog not fried
Roffled Synapse 2:50:00 PM
Turtle zombies! LOL Brian!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:50:20 PM
G Jax, before your days people used to love (me included) the snapper soup at Bookbinders in Philly, and warn't fish!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:50:57 PM
How was the alligator, I hear it tastes like chicken.
Brian D 2:51:13 PM
I was thinking of the caramel, nut chocolate confection.. .but yes turtle soup is great (aka snapper soup - that word does not refer to the snapper fish ha). I heard one of those tv chefs putting it down like it was some roadkill food but it was a popular dish in urban restaurants in the northeast going back a century or 2. Eat what ya have around I guess.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:51:56 PM
Hello?
G Jax 2:52:02 PM
Nah I could never eat turtle. Even back in the days when I still ate things with eyes.
Mike Constantine 2:52:07 PM
Bookbinder's Snapper.......oh yeah
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:52:14 PM
It was so good. You could buy it from canned as well. I would have roadkill soup if it were available today
Roffled Synapse 2:52:18 PM
I've never seen more dead flat turtles than driving across eastern Kentucky.
Mike Constantine 2:52:26 PM
With a dollop of Sherry
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:52:37 PM
That's a sport over there, Roffle
Brian D 2:52:40 PM
As for zombie comment I meant the band The Zombies. There are some similarities in their vocals, writing, instrumentation, recording techniques.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:53:29 PM
Mike, you and your cousin were such gourmets! Absolutely with Sherry. Is that where you were taking your dates?
Roffled Synapse 2:53:47 PM
In my mind that's here to fore Flo & Eddy Mother's era. lol
Brian D 2:53:48 PM
Yep, Sherry definitely.... and her sister too if she's not busy.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:54:06 PM
Dellicious.
Mike Constantine 2:54:21 PM
Yeah...the girl I was dating in New York demanded fine dining!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:54:22 PM
Hello, just passing through and wondering what I'm hearing since the last song on the playlist is from 2:11?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:54:47 PM
Hi Rob!
Mike Constantine 2:54:52 PM
Le Bec Fin in the late 70's...wonderful
Patrick White 2:55:02 PM
Thanks Gordski everyone have great weekend. The last snapper soup sighting for me was Pearl Oyster Bar in Reading Terminal
Brian D 2:55:05 PM
Rob we are still crowd funding the "Jerry Learns how to Copy Paste Lessons". Coming up in a couple years.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:55:06 PM
It was all The Turtles until this track
TAndy 2:55:23 PM
Man this was an awesome show! I'd not heard of The Turtles before now, but these guys rock.
Russell Woessner 2:55:23 PM
Quite a solo from Sugarcane Harris!
TAndy 2:55:30 PM
Thanks, Jerry G!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:55:31 PM
It's because Mark Volman, co-founder of the Turtles died.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:56:09 PM
Hi Jerry, is this Flo & Eddie? The playlist seems to be stuck in the 70s
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:56:14 PM
Tandy, that's great to hear! Yeah, they were cool and funny
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:56:33 PM
Thanks for doing this hour, Jerry. I wasn't aware that Mark Volman had passed
Brian D 2:56:35 PM
Rob this is Flo and Eddie with Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:56:36 PM
Rob, I haven't been able to keep up with the typing.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:57:23 PM
Thanks Brian D (2:55 pm) re the crowfunding, er, crowdfunding
Roffled Synapse 2:57:38 PM
I can't believe I'm thinking about finding trutle soup somewhere. oy!
Roffled Synapse 2:57:59 PM
Thanks Jer!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:58:03 PM
@Brian D 2:56, thanks. Jerry, I understand. No problem!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:58:29 PM
Rob, That was Flo and Eddie with Zappa in 1970 on an album
Brian D 2:58:39 PM
Pineville Tavern in Pineville, PA Bucks County always had a good snapper soup. That was the location where the annoying tv chef with bleached hair visited and was thinking it was a roadkill dish.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:58:56 PM
I think I've eaten turtle (soup) at a cajun restaurant near my old office in Maryland
Rob from Maryland 🦀 2:59:23 PM
@Jerry, thanks! I knew The Turtles but never really Flo and Eddie
Mike Constantine 2:59:35 PM
Don't care for that guy a bit
Roffled Synapse 2:59:39 PM
Cool! Thx! Gotta try it!
Mike Constantine 3:00:02 PM
Drove past the Pineville yesterday
Brian D 3:00:07 PM
yep Mike. No need to mention that g-- er person's name
Roffled Synapse 3:00:30 PM
None at all!
