Two hours of new jazz releases with a short feature on Sonny Rollins for his birthday, followed by a one hour tribute to the lave Mark Volman and the Turtles!

It may be hard to imagine a world where you tuned away from WPRB but ... WKCR will be doing their annual 24 hour John Coltrane marathon starting at midnight on his birthday Sep 23 (as soon as Sep 22 fades away at 11:59 pm...). They do so many of these 24 or more hour marathons for great jazz and other birthdays.

I heard the Jim Hall & Ron Carter duet of St Thomas the other day in honor of Sonny. A great stripped down version. Great interplay.

I bought a sealed copy of this Sonny Rollins and Big Band LP for $1 at a porch sale!

The Turtles’ "Grim Reaper of Love" B-side “Come Back” is a different song than “She’ll Come Back”. That latter song went unreleased until their 1970 compilation “Wooden Head”, but they mime to it in the dumb 1966 movie “Out of Sight”.

G Jax, before your days people used to love (me included) the snapper soup at Bookbinders in Philly, and warn't fish!

How was the alligator, I hear it tastes like chicken.

I was thinking of the caramel, nut chocolate confection.. .but yes turtle soup is great (aka snapper soup - that word does not refer to the snapper fish ha). I heard one of those tv chefs putting it down like it was some roadkill food but it was a popular dish in urban restaurants in the northeast going back a century or 2. Eat what ya have around I guess.

Pineville Tavern in Pineville, PA Bucks County always had a good snapper soup. That was the location where the annoying tv chef with bleached hair visited and was thinking it was a roadkill dish.

I think I've eaten turtle (soup) at a cajun restaurant near my old office in Maryland
