Russell Woessner 12:04:05 PM
So much to make difficult choices about!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:04:33 PM
Hi Brian, isn't that the ultimate summer song?
Brian D 12:04:46 PM
The loooonggg synth notes that bloom like PA sound effects at the ball game....
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:05:03 PM
Ha! !!!!!
Brian D 12:05:40 PM
Like if a vuvuzuela "player" in the stadium crowd could actually sustain a note and let it ride....
Patrick White 12:06:36 PM
Greetings and happy Charlie Parker day to Jerry and all Gordonzians. Bird lives indeed!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:07:16 PM
Hi Patrick, greetings and great comment. I hope you enjoy today's show
Brian D 12:08:26 PM
I have been moonlighting and checking out WKCR for their mega marathon Lester Young Charlie Parker 3 day 72 hour extravaganza.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:10:34 PM
How was it?
Patrick White 12:13:49 PM
Was able to attend both Charlie Parker festival shows last weekend. I saw Russ and was getting ready to say hello but then security proceeded to remove me
Russell Woessner 12:16:33 PM
Brian, Phil Schaap lives!
Brian D 12:17:49 PM
Still going on until midnight tonight RE the WKCR marathon(s). And YES Phil Schaap lives is right! I thought I had stumbled into the usual Phil S rebroadcasts that have been cranking out regularly.... then I noticed Charlie Parker was playing all day long when I checked in and checked their website.
Brian D 12:19:05 PM
His delivery is (was) so comforting. There should be a hosted livestream/satellite channel that just broadcasts Phil forevermore until the end of time. So informative. Such great dedication and research. RIP
Russell Woessner 12:23:45 PM
Larry Klein, husband of Joni Mitchell and Luciana Souza!
Patrick White 12:24:02 PM
In honor of Phil Schaap. After performing at the Showboat in Philadelphia Bird would head to Lintons and consume corned beef Hash, pancakes , bacon and a pot of black coffee.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:24:04 PM
Patrick, that was at Russ's request.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:24:46 PM
I love that story! Linton's, better than CrackerBarrell!
Patrick White 12:26:02 PM
Jerry best weather they ever had. Huge crowds both days . Shout out to 88 year old Bertha Hope still getting the job done. Tremendous old guy energy from Gary Bartz. What a duo Dee Dee Bridgewatef and Bill Charlap.
Roffled Synapse 12:26:11 PM
Definitive lists abound around this here joint. Menu's and all.
Russell Woessner 12:26:29 PM
Brian, I would listen to that channel!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:28:04 PM
wowowowowow! I didn't know Bertha Hope was still alive. Gary Bartz was a revolutionary. And my ex mother-in-law dated Bill Charlap's father (from Philadelphia_
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:29:36 PM
Hi "Roffle S"! I hope you get respite from the synapses every once in awhile
Patrick White 12:30:20 PM
Other Philadelphia venues frequented by Bird. West Philly 421 Blue note 15 and Ridge. Club Downbeat 12 and Market
Russell Woessner 12:30:28 PM
A friend described Braxton’s sound as a bathtub in heat.
Patrick White 12:31:27 PM
Very lame MCS since Phil passed. They barely mention Bird or his Tompkins square history
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:31:30 PM
Great info, Patrick & Russell
Russell Woessner 12:33:22 PM
Braxton makes me smile.
Patrick White 12:34:13 PM
The first Charlie Parker Jazz fest in 1993 featuredJackie McLean,Hank Jones,Roy Haynes,Percy Heath and Red Rodney
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:35:07 PM
When did you start going, Patrick?
Patrick White 12:35:54 PM
I remember Phil used to have a trivia contest between shows . He asked some arcane ? And I gave the answer to some young guy and he won the prize.
Patrick White 12:36:28 PM
Every year since 1993 Jerry . Amazing the changes in the neighborhood
rick hallahan 12:37:32 PM
This Anthony Braxton performance just blows my mind!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:30 PM
A love of that track is something Ru
Patrick White 12:38:34 PM
Albums given at birth for me were the Clancy Brothers rebel songbook
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:39:52 PM
Russ and I share. Rick. Every track is great. Funny thing is that it was supposed to be someone else's date, maybe Dexter Gordon. But then he couldn't make the gig and Braxton replaced him.
Russell Woessner 12:40:09 PM
Serenade to a Cuckoo is the passion of Jerry Gordon!
Stephen Higgins 12:40:25 PM
Hi everyone, I'm back to my fave Jazz show and host!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:26 PM

If you look up the word "cool" in the dictionary, Bob Dorough's picture has to be right next to it.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:46:14 PM
Now I am going to reveal Larry Klein's marital status thanks to you!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:46:46 PM

He made three the magic number. No more no less!!
Patrick White 12:55:59 PM
Anxiously awaiting the new fall WPRB schedule to see if they are airing the Polka program I auditioned
rick hallahan 12:56:59 PM
My wish list for a future "Cuckoo" show is an hour of Latin Jazz followed by an hour of Klezmer!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:58:54 PM
Thanks Rick, I love that idea!
Brian D 1:23:47 PM
Jeffrey has some great performances in Wes Anderson films. And Broken Flowers (Jarmusch). Good stuff.
Brian D 1:25:33 PM
1st time I ever heard the Ethiopian jazz piece "Yegelle Tezeta" by Mulatu Astatke was thanks to Jeffrey's character in Broken Flowers (let me make you a mix tape...). Later featured on the Ethiopiques series etc....
G Jax 1:27:24 PM
JERRY!!!!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:29:33 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:30:33 PM
G Jax, what is happening?!!! How are you and your dogs doing?
G Jax 1:33:25 PM
The dog Christopher is great thanks. Now the cat - Jackie Treehorn - has issues. These animals put a hurtin on the wallet. I love 'em to death though
Patrick White 1:35:07 PM
Diane Venora played Chan Parker so great in bird movie. Nobody voiced a better Maaaan!!
Mike Constantine 1:35:23 PM
Someone said there's scrapple?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:35:51 PM
G Jax, we love our animals. Sorry to hear about Jackie!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:36:16 PM
Patrick, you are the King of Media!
Patrick White 1:36:30 PM

Mike Constantine 1:36:56 PM

Patrick White 1:37:35 PM
Thanks Gordski but the only king I resemble is Kong.
Mike Constantine 1:38:08 PM
I thought of you as more Fay Wray
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:38:27 PM
Mike, I could eat some fried up scrapple right now! One time a very big deal in Philly. I want some! My parents never gave me Scrapple (probably because of the chicken toenails therein, so they used to fry up liverwurst.
G Jax 1:38:30 PM
On another huge positive note. I saw Stanley Clarke and band this
G Jax 1:38:39 PM
past Monday
Patrick White 1:38:41 PM
When the fall schedule is released I will look at Thursday 11am hoping for a Will c comeback.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:38:55 PM
The Hendrix project he has going on?
Mike Constantine 1:39:16 PM
Fried Liverwurst???? I must try!!!!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:00 PM
Fried eggs and liverwurst. I was the only kid in my school with liverwurst breath. I didn't care
Mike Constantine 1:40:11 PM
I hope to see Will C next week
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:37 PM
Patrick, I encourage Will all the time
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:40:55 PM
Really Mike? That's fantastic
Mike Constantine 1:41:34 PM
Hoping he's spinning in Lambertville....haven't been there since March
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:43:12 PM
I don't know if he is still doing every other week. I wilil find out.
G Jax 1:45:36 PM
I used to eat Liverwurst and mustard every day in elementary school. Kids would give me shit about that. I don't think I've eaten it in 45 years
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:03 PM
Hahaha. It may be out of print.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:34 PM
Those kids weren't gourmets like you.
Mike Constantine 1:46:38 PM
Liverwurst and onions on rye.....
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:51 PM
Yeah man
Mike Constantine 1:47:27 PM

rick hallahan 1:50:13 PM
Dr. Jerry, I'm ready for my B-3 shot.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:50:50 PM
That's why this is here. I know you need it weekly if not sooner
Mike Constantine 1:51:16 PM
What a sound
rick hallahan 1:51:18 PM
indeed!!!
G Jax 1:51:26 PM
Ha. No they weren't. But then I've always been very singular in what I eat. For instance, I cook up my crazy stews and whatnot and my wife won't even eat it. I love it though. So does the dog.
Mike Constantine 1:52:25 PM
My roomie won't eat my crazy mashups
G Jax 1:59:57 PM
My wife named mine 'Hobo Stew'
Mike Constantine 2:01:10 PM
Ha!....I like a Hobo stew
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:01:33 PM
I bet you and your dog just fart away, having a good old time!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:02:01 PM
Hobo Stew. Yum!
Mike Constantine 2:02:49 PM
Right?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:03:08 PM
It's good for you. Give some to the cat.
G Jax 2:03:36 PM
My dog is remarkably not farty. Me on the other hand
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:03:48 PM
hahaha
Mike Constantine 2:12:04 PM
Now I get why Jeff Beck was in your post
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:12:33 PM
Good connection, but that's not why!
Mike Constantine 2:13:26 PM
Ah!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:13:48 PM
Although Truth, as you know, is one of the greatest albums ever make
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:13:55 PM

G Jax 2:14:04 PM
I caught part of what you said, and I heard you say Bill Wyman. But it's not for this is it this does not sound like him at all.
Mike Constantine 2:15:05 PM
Tis a good one
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:15:18 PM
How about this one?
G Jax 2:15:32 PM
Now this sounds like it could be Bill Wyman
G Jax 2:20:07 PM
Barney
David Shortell 2:20:12 PM
I saw "The Hustler" in Princeton two nights ago. Mike Constantine played Big John.
G Jax 2:20:18 PM

G Jax 2:20:33 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:20:40 PM

Mike Constantine 2:27:36 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:27:47 PM
Hey Bruce!
Mike Constantine 2:28:24 PM
Hey Bruce
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:29:02 PM
Bruce, you know this song?
Bruce Kelso 2:29:14 PM
3 lps u need to hear. eddie boyd 7936 south rhoades with fleetwood mac, eddie boyd with cuby and the blizzards.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:30:00 PM
I still have the first one, never knew about the second
G Jax 2:30:02 PM
The funny thing about the Kings is when I'm listening to Freddy I'm like damn Freddy is my favorite when I'm listening to Albert I'm like damn Albert is my favorite and when I listen to BB King, I'm like wow BB is my favorite. Guess they all are my favorites. When you think about this post made no sense at all what was the point?
Bruce Kelso 2:30:22 PM
i know the track yes but never heard this version. eddie boyd boyd with john mayalls breakers
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:30:28 PM
It made perfect sense
G Jax 2:31:15 PM
yes, Rite, the second BB King is my favorite king
Bruce Kelso 2:31:28 PM
never a fan of any of the kings or willie
Mike Constantine 2:32:03 PM
Three Kings, eh?
Bruce Kelso 2:32:23 PM
yup
Mike Constantine 2:32:58 PM
Agreed about BB Bruce....a bit vanilla
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:33:10 PM
Mike: Albert, BB, Freddy
Mike Constantine 2:33:17 PM
Never heard this one.... : )
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:33:20 PM
We Three Kings
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:33:50 PM
What was the name of the Mayall album, Bruce?
Mike Constantine 2:33:54 PM
Exactly!
Bruce Kelso 2:34:06 PM
the young rascals cut mustang sally first
Bruce Kelso 2:36:29 PM
its called dust my broom on london 1967 with peter green
G Jax 2:37:39 PM
Have to say never got Buddy Guy as a guitar player. He's really not good. Good singer though. Good luck Jeff take this one.
G Jax 2:38:06 PM
What I meant was good that he let Jeff take this one. But why wouldn't you let Jeff take one? He's like the best of all time.
Mike Constantine 2:38:06 PM
Ah....there's the Jeff Beck conection
Bruce Kelso 2:39:08 PM
never got buddy guy at all
Bruce Kelso 2:41:01 PM
the first james gang has 2 great trax, the yardbirds lost women and the springfields bluebird
G Jax 2:41:26 PM
I think would help buddy a lot is his personality. He just seems like such a cool guy like the kind of guy you'd wanna hang around. He's always happy and smiling.. But man, he's ham handed and awkward on a guitar. And everybody just kisses his ass in some kind of way. Like Jeff Beck and Keith Richards and all them cats.
Mike Constantine 2:41:48 PM
Ringo's brother in law plays some o guitar.... : )
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:42:18 PM
G Jax, Buddy Guy deserves ass kissing
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:42:31 PM
So does Joe Walsh
Bruce Kelso 2:42:57 PM
buddys chess trax are very good tho
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:43:13 PM
Yes
Mike Constantine 2:45:17 PM
In new dog news, my dogs in digging in some dirt in the backyard and rolling in it....oy vey
Bruce Kelso 2:45:19 PM
my fav black blues guys were sonny boy num 2 and little walter.
Mike Constantine 2:45:34 PM
dog is digging
G Jax 2:46:21 PM
Yeah disagree there. That's cool. That's why there's chocolate and vanilla. I just think Buddy is weak as a guitar player. And that kind of blues guitar is of the utmost importance.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:46:26 PM
Very hard core, Bruce! Great, tho!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:48:18 PM
The context of Buddy Guy is important also. His style. And he's often powerful.
Ossy 2:49:05 PM
afternoon jerry
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:49:24 PM
Hi Ossy, how are you doing?
Bruce Kelso 2:49:38 PM
i collected blaclk blues but in 95 sold it all. ill stick with butter early mayall mac savoy brown chicken shack early tya british stuff and early cuby/blizzards
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:50:07 PM
noted
G Jax 2:51:51 PM
He's a showman I'll give him that. And a damn good showman and I do like the way he sings. I just don't think he's a good guitar player and I see other really great guitar players putting him up on the pedestal and I think he deserves to be there.
