Classic Chuck

Havana Moon was one probable inspiration for Richard Berry (no relation) when he wrote "Louie Louie"
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:10:31 AM
These two tracks show Berry experimenting with different genres -- Thirty Days being a take on country, this showing a Calypso influence.

@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) Thanks for another sturdy show. Frank Hutchinson's "The Last Scene of the Titanic" is great. I really enjoy those blues historic-event songs. Of course, the form became high art in calypso.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:39:14 AM
Thanks Richard! It made me think of several songs about rail disasters. Any topical calypso records you'd recommend?
David Shortell 11:52:04 AM
Is there a worse version of "House of the Rising Sun" than Frijid Pink's?
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:52:25 AM
Haven't heard it....
Brian D 11:55:06 AM
Honkin sax from Red Prysock
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:55:18 AM
Gotta love it!
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:55:31 AM
Well, of course there's "It's Love and Love Alone (Caused King Edward to Leave the Throne)" about the British then-king to marry Wallace Simpson, an American divorcee. And Ry Cooder's charming cover of "Roosevelt in Trinidad" about president FDR taking part in an international conference in Trinidad & Tobago, an event of great pride for that small Caribbean nation.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:56:06 AM
Noted, Richard!
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:56:20 AM
@ Brian D Yessir! Wow!
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:59:30 AM
And what a joy for all of your listeners to have Blues Off The Record back, giving welcomed chill to this hot summer season. :-D
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 12:00:36 PM
Thank you!
