Havana Moon was one probable inspiration for Richard Berry (no relation) when he wrote "Louie Louie"

These two tracks show Berry experimenting with different genres -- Thirty Days being a take on country, this showing a Calypso influence.

@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) Thanks for another sturdy show. Frank Hutchinson's "The Last Scene of the Titanic" is great. I really enjoy those blues historic-event songs. Of course, the form became high art in calypso.

Thanks Richard! It made me think of several songs about rail disasters. Any topical calypso records you'd recommend?

Well, of course there's "It's Love and Love Alone (Caused King Edward to Leave the Throne)" about the British then-king to marry Wallace Simpson, an American divorcee. And Ry Cooder's charming cover of "Roosevelt in Trinidad" about president FDR taking part in an international conference in Trinidad & Tobago, an event of great pride for that small Caribbean nation.
