have an affinity for uk battle rap( all battle rap, but i got into UK early in to my dive into battle rap so it holds special place

I've been a fan of some of the UK underground coming out lately, but also ofc it is fun to listen to as an american

I've been meaning to get into battle rap, who are your favs?

and br is like a sub set of hip hop probs wouldn't say adjacent but idk maybe something like that

I feel like the only br I've heard is what was in the 8 mile movie but ik I'm missing out

damn man i got like 11 years of watching, that is somewhat loaded ( although loaded lux is beloved by everyone as a GOAT, not my personal fav)

yeah it's essentially depending on where you would want to start, what you would be really looking to get out of it, if you wanted a true recommendation or suggestion. It can be pretty insular, meaning when you are hearing the things they are saying in modern era, you may have to be in tune to years of cultural stuff that is like common knowledge for the audience that is in tune, but for someone who has never seen it may not get like 25 of the 30 references used in the bars

but if you had something specific you think you would like or want to hear or describe like " 2 uk guys" " two west coast gang bangers" " a west coast vs east coast guy" nerdy white guys" etc. i could give you like something yoiu may like

it's evolved since 8 mile, but like essentially there was an era of UNWRITTEN BATTLE RAP/FREESTYLE ERA, and then there's like modern era where everything is written and rehearsed and catered to an opponent you know you have for weeks/months in advance

Hmm yes I think I'd be down to listen to something close to 2 uk guys or a east coast vs west coast guy, I'm sure a lot of references would fly over my head -- but that's part of the fun, learning about the genre in its own language

how do you feel about the change up between older freestyles to the planned battle raps of today

it's a very weird dynamic though, because althought Battle rappers make good music, it's very hard for them to cross over, even with the exposure they get from rap, and then rappers that come and try battle rap have historically gotten bodybagged pretty handily lmao

Cannibus,Cassidy,Joe budden, ( although cassidy's first battle back he didn't do that bad)

well i got into it 2014, and by that time it was well in to the modern era

so for me going back to the pre written era, while impressive for the time, feels clunky and just isn't a good of rewatch product for me to go back and get into all of it

but there are people who were succesfull in both era's and still battle to present day so that's dope

with updated style, but these guys are the forefathers of bringing multisylabbics and shit to the table

im like a pen junky, so i like the guys who have crazy pens, write crazy metaphors, double/triple entendre's

oh yeah rappers on beat use multi's for sure, the acapella aspect probably is tough, and people do it now all the time, but during the freestyle era people weren't doing that type of in depth stuff and obviosuly so, it's not easy to come up with stuff off the top catered to an opponent you may of met 5 mins ago

over the past handful of years entendre's are like the big thing everyone's always going for

double's are like regular now so people are trying to weave triples in, all while keeping your setups relevant to the punches it's crazy, admittedly i follow way less over the past 5/6 years, 14 to 20 i was pretty heavily following the scene, now i just catchbattles that i'd like to see, ya know like wrestling or any sport, as time goes on all the matchups have happened so until new talent gets developed and it makes sense for matchups it can get stagnant

oh yeah i gotta take a 5er after this song, gonna come back and rip some rocket league to the electric part of the set, and i gotta ask you a qeustion that i think you know the answer to or maybe even point me in the direction of

on a pretty cool installment on URL ( ULTIMATE RAP LEAGUE, widely considered the NBA, or the top league, although there is tons of other leagues and stuff this is probs jsut the most prestigious)

they have names for their big events, and every year its something to build hype to ie: NOME( Night of main events) Summer Madness. this particular battle is the volume series, so it's small room kinda invite only crowd lotta big names to watch

that's the link paused to right before the battle starts, you'll get the intro's and then into the battle 3 rounds ( usually about 1.5 to 3 mins depending) unjudged battle

don't necesarily watch to judge the battle, but im curious to see who you think wins cause i've seen it like 20/30 time maybe even more, and i still don't know if i could call a winner

offensive words warning, just consider what they are saying art but it is intense and vulgar if you aren't prepared or okay with hearing that kinda stuff, im like tone deaf to it, but my friend daniel can't watch cause it gives him anxiety, and my ex hated it for the same reasons so i guess beware of that if thats a thing lmao
