@richard i was surprised to learn that too! even the new nobel prize winner, han kang, was put on a cultural blacklist by the government in the mid 2010s for her novels on late-century censorship

This is such a supreme show so far.

@ DJ Bammers (host) Yes, South Korea is certainly preferable to any Korea alternative! But it's fair to say, even with recent government and social reforms, it's still a largely autocratic culture. And the K-pop performers -- who are so wonderfully talented and have captivated much of the world -- are not exactly what you'd call rebels.

I meant to write "preferable to any North Korea alternative" ...

And I should add my thanks to Fire Trail's for "Indian Summer" by The Doors. Lovely example of their jazz-influenced best from the very enjoyable although underrated Morrison Hotel / Hard Rock Cafe album.
