Wow! I would love for one of my kids to get into tennis... how did the tennis season go, Liz?

@Parrscream - She's a beginner, so not playing on the team much! BUt she had a lot of fun and wants to continue tennis in high school, which she starts in...just over 3 months! Yikes!

I think that they should put tape over certain knobs and switches so that nothing gets changed by accident.

@Liz - That's awesome! At least she is doing it right? That's how our oldest got into Track a couple seasons ago... he was just a beginner and now he is doing pretty good with it. And he is also going into high school in three months!!! DOUBLE YIKES!!!

@Number 6 - She really enjoys it, so that's what counts, and she'll get in a lot more practice in the fall, since high school girls' tennis is in the fall at her school, so who knows in a couple of years she might be hitting all those backhand shots!

I have a friend from Sydney who was in his early 20s there when Radio Birdman were just releasing these albums and he talks fondly about seeing them live and keeps trying to get me to do an all-Australian band show for Australia Day, which I've been meaning to do, but I never think of it in time!

@Parrscream - I know! It's on the top of my upcoming summer releases list I've looking forward to seeing, along with that insane-looking Barbie movie by Greta Gerwig & NOah Baumbach. I never liked Barbies, but that thing looks unhinged in a very good way

@Liz - Ha ha! I know! I hardly ever have time to get to the theater anymore but I am FINALLY taking my kids to see Mario on Sunday and I will DEFINITELY see Asteroid City in the theater. Hopefully the week it comes out. ANd totally agreed about Barbie! It looks insane!

@Francis - Yes! For real! I DO intend to do some time. One thing that always throws me off is that I think of Australia Day as a summertime thing, which it IS...for them. But of course it happens during our winter so I usually remember after it has passed!

@Number 6 - There is an absolutely bonkers documentary about Flat-Earthers I saw maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It was VERY satisfying watching them try to prove it scientifically and failing over and over.

@Unoclay - When my parents went to Iceland about 10 years ago, they took tours where guides talked about an ancient irish influence on icelandic folklore, which makes sense both geographically and when you think about the emphasis on trolls and fairy stories

@unoclay - ha, churches as tax dodges...definitely an old trick. I remember the sugar plantations in Maui were started by missionaries from Boston who got the land for the church...then conveniently turned it into plantation!

@unoclay - Whenever I see a cute lamb hopping around I think of the "Lisa the Vegetarian" Simpsons episode scene with the succession of increasingly giant-eyed cute lambs, eliciting ever-more-enthusiastic "AWWWs," and Homer kicking the first one aside "Outta the way, you!"

Great sounds as per the uzhe Lizbot! One of my fave moments on Simpsons is when they get a free sample in the mail. Homer sees the bottle of "Lemon Time" and drinks it right down. Marge says "Homer, that's dishwashing detergent!" Homer says, "Yeah but what are you gonna do?" - That was based on actual samples of lemon scented dish soap being sent in the mail and supposedly/urban legendy... people mistook it for lemon drink concentrate and tried to imbibe it. I remember getting the sample ....

I loved my ugly yellow small Weber charcoal grill Simpsons Edition. Pic of Homer with the impossibly big shish-kebab of a whole ham leg, whole chicken, whole fish head-on, giant sausage etc... used it for decade plus. Rusted out.
