So there's an NK Jemisin short story in which humans have been eradicated and all of the remaining gods are moping around and slowly fading away. It ends with the god of death noticing that some octopuses are slowly gaining sentience and prepares herself for a tentacled future.

Have you seen the 1937 film “Sh! The Octopus” starring Hugh Herbert? I was advised to just watch it without looking it up beforehand, so as to fully enjoy its shocking conclusion. I foolishly ignored the advice, allowing a still photo to spoil it for me.

Putting it on the top of my watch list now!

I somehow feel like I've heard of that before, but I've never seen it. I wonder if it's on the streaming?

Saw a great solo show by Joe Jack Talcum about 10 years back in New Hope. Barely 10-15 people in the room. Sunny afternoon on the weekend. Part of this crazy haphazard "festival"at diff bars. He claimed he was jet lagged after just playing a Dead Milkmen gig in Colorado the day before but it did not show. Really fun time. All yer faves, hits n rarities, requests (Watching Scotty Die was one). Done up acoustic guitar & harmonica rack style. Go Talcum!

Were I a better DJ, I would have 100% played Octopus's Garden after the Merz

I've seen Jack Talcum a couple of times, including in a Manchester (NJ) log cabin.

Back in the Forties, the recurring villain in Will Eisner’s strip “The Spirit” was called the Octopus. He was a mysterious kingpin whose face never showed, but wore distinctive purple gloves. All of that was ignored in Frank Miller’s terrible 2008 movie that cast Samuel L. Jackson in the role.
