I heard that "circus" song quite a bit in my childhood. I'm not sure which of my older siblings I have to thank for that.
Commie Francis (host) 7:17:10 AM
the record it's on is a top bubblegum lp! it has an anti reagan song on it which we will hear a cover of later
Commie Francis (host) 7:18:14 AM
the cover is very mad magazine-inspired

The Shondells somehow became the official band of the 1968 Humphrey campaign (and Tommy James was asked to be his Adviser on Youth Affairs). The MC5 played at the Chicago Dem Con. Why couldn't they get that job?
Commie Francis (host) 7:28:02 AM
the mc5 didn't play the official convention, did they?
Mike Lupica 7:28:49 AM
I dunno how "official" it was... I kinda feel like they just showed up in the park, played, there was a police riot, and then they took off.
Commie Francis (host) 7:28:58 AM
yeah that was my impression as well
Mike Lupica 7:29:06 AM
That's the way it's explained in the MC5 doc, anyway.
Commie Francis (host) 7:29:26 AM
maybe that was a joke though. i don't think they were a democratic party kinda band
David Shortell 7:31:27 AM
Norman Mailer saw the MC5 there and wrote about it in "Miami and the Siege of Chicago". He didn't know their name though.
Mike Lupica 7:32:33 AM
Big fan of the MC5's lesser-known B-side: "All the way with LBJ!"
Mike Lupica 7:32:49 AM

Commie Francis (host) 7:36:57 AM
this reminds me that a long time ago i found a frijid pink record in the garbage and googled them and found something saying nixon said they were his favorite rock band and they played the white house
Mike Lupica 7:43:23 AM
Back in the early 2000s when the internet was more for creative weird projects than it was for being racist, I invented a game which became popular in my office called "Six Moves to Frijid Pink". The idea was to look up ANY artsist on allmusic.com, and then in only six clicks, get to the allmusic page for Frijid Pink. You could click on any link on any artist's page (another artist, the name of a producer, a record label exec, etc.) but you only got six clicks.
Mike Lupica 7:44:03 AM
I haven't tried in a while, but I think I was almost always able to do it.
David Shortell 7:45:06 AM
I can't believe Nixon had a favorite rock band! Not even Jefferson Airplane, whose singer was invited to a White House tea party by fellow Finch College alumnus Tricia.
Commie Francis (host) 7:45:57 AM
maybe tricia was into them and he was like "yes tricia this is fine"
David Shortell 7:50:27 AM
Was the lead vocalist for "Wait Til Tomorrow" credited? I want to know if it was Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper or Snork.
Commie Francis (host) 7:51:32 AM
i just looked and the vocalists are not credited but doin the banana split says it's written by barry white
David Shortell 7:59:42 AM
Do you know the 1910 Fruitgum Company played at the 2016 Red Bank Oyster Festival? So close to me. I can't believe I missed it.
Commie Francis (host) 8:06:05 AM
no! i was going to go see them with joey levine and ron dante in 2012 i think? but my cat died and i was too sad to go
Space Cowboy 8:43:48 AM
Cool bubblegum! Partridge family echo valley?
Space Cowboy 8:44:08 AM

Commie Francis (host) 8:45:13 AM

Rob from Maryland 8:59:38 AM
This Fevers song could be The Ohio Express ... maybe?
Commie Francis (host) 9:00:08 AM
it's the fevers trying to sound like the ohio express in their song entitled ohio express!
Rob from Maryland 9:00:32 AM
Yes!!
Commie Francis (host) 9:00:39 AM
