hello hello! last doubleplusgood for two weeks as I'll be in Mexico next week!
Number 6 5:01:06 PM
That should be a great vaycay, Just stay out of certain areas.
Lizbot (host) 5:02:42 PM
Hi Number 6!
Rofflestomp 5:03:16 PM
Heya Lizbot, hi #6. Mexico is on my no go list. lol Be safe dear!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:25 PM
@Number 6 - Yeah the news regarding Americans traveling in Mexico hasn't been that great this week! I will not be in a border area at all though. I'll be in the Yucatan peninsula
Lizbot (host) 5:03:50 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!
Number 6 5:03:51 PM
The Magic Secret Decoder says there's currently 122 online Botaholics!
Rofflestomp 5:04:34 PM
I had an American friend who lived on the peninsula for years without a problem.
Lizbot (host) 5:04:35 PM
@Rofflestomp - Yeah, it's the reason Ive put off going there for so long, but we're going to be as careful as we can. I was going to not rent a car and just take cabs. I am kind of rethinking that...
Lizbot (host) 5:04:50 PM
@Number 6 - Nice!
Number 6 5:05:37 PM
The peak for today was 188, there's many more over the air.
iamthelabhras 5:06:29 PM
Hello WPRB human & robot friends!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:39 PM
@Rofflestomp - Well good! I will be flying into Cancun since there are direct flights from PHL but then heading down to Tulum and then a couple hours inland for more Mayan ruins
Lizbot (host) 5:06:55 PM
Hi iamthelabhras!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:08 PM
@Number 6 - where do you find this data?
iamthelabhras 5:07:40 PM
Started the working day with Krista's Habitat Enrichment. Ending it with Lizbot. No complaints here!
Number 6 5:07:41 PM
That would be telling!:)
Lizbot (host) 5:07:50 PM
If anyone has been to the Yucatan and has tips for getting around, lemme know! I know the roads in Tulum are narrow and often flooded. I read they can be backed up for miles
Lizbot (host) 5:08:00 PM
@Number 6 - hmmmmm
Lizbot (host) 5:08:11 PM
@Number 6 - no, I see your point!
Rofflestomp 5:08:26 PM
Hi iamthelabhras
iamthelabhras 5:08:47 PM
Howdy Rofflestomp. What's the buzz?
Rofflestomp 5:09:00 PM
Number 6 is obviously a numbers kinda guy. :)
Lizbot (host) 5:09:10 PM
@iamthelabhras - Nice! A good way to lick off the day too! What was Krista's animal of the day today?
Rob from Maryland 5:09:45 PM
@Lizbot, enjoy your trip to Mexico!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:56 PM
Hi Rob! Thanks! I will report back on any birds I see
iamthelabhras 5:10:39 PM
If memory serves, I believe it was the hyrax?
Rofflestomp 5:11:32 PM
@iamthelabhras - Just enjoying tunes. Sounds like you're up to same. :)
Brian D 5:11:40 PM
Good stuff here. Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek
iamthelabhras 5:11:43 PM
Yes indeed, Rofflestomp! I am a man of simple pleasures. Like pysch-rock duos from Brazil.
iamthelabhras 5:11:52 PM
And sentient robots!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:06 PM
@Rob - I am going to be mostly on the gulf coast with some forays inland. As far as parrots, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a Yucatan amazon. might spot a keel-billed toucan. The black-and-white owl looks really cool!
Lizbot (host) 5:13:01 PM
@iamthelabhras - the hydrax? She's into deep cut animals!
Number 6 5:13:19 PM
Amazing what great music I keep hearing on WPRB that I never heard before.
Rofflestomp 5:13:36 PM
@iamthelabhras, South American music is so under-rated mostly. Shame really.
Lizbot (host) 5:13:49 PM
@iamthelabhras - Glad you enjoyed the Boogarins1
Lizbot (host) 5:13:54 PM
Hi Brian D!
iamthelabhras 5:14:06 PM
Agreed Rofflestomp!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:14 PM
@Brian D - I love a good Turkish psych band! Anatolian 4ever
Lizbot (host) 5:15:04 PM
@iamthelabhras - As far as sentient robots, I have a lot of competition lately, with the proliferation of AI and Megan the nanny killbot!
iamthelabhras 5:15:54 PM
@Lizbot ... I don't know. I don't think we'll ever improve on the OG sentient bots like yourself.
Rofflestomp 5:16:03 PM
Once the bots become competitive we are all in big trouble.
Lee Chandler 5:16:08 PM
I LOVE Oaxacan folk art & want to go in this lifetime collecting & agatherin’ there. Have friends from both coasts of Mexico & they go safely visit often.
Lizbot (host) 5:17:36 PM
Hi Lee Chandler!
Lizbot (host) 5:18:15 PM
@iamthelabhras - well I am not built to blush, but thank you!
Lizbot (host) 5:19:13 PM
@Rofflestomp - I was raised on The Terminator and T2, so I've feared the singularity my whole life! To the point I decided, in the words of Queen, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Rofflestomp 5:19:23 PM
I think visiting the Mayan ruins would be very cool. Perhaps once I done seeing all of ones in Philly I might get around to it.
Lee Chandler 5:19:45 PM
Hi Lizbot! You can always take a trip to San Francisco & see the parrots!
iamthelabhras 5:19:55 PM
"Not built to blush". Calling that for my next robot-inspired beat.
Rofflestomp 5:19:59 PM
I think visiting the Mayan ruins would be very cool. Perhaps once I'm done seeing all of ones in Philly I might get around to it.
Lizbot (host) 5:20:47 PM
@Lee Chandler - I love Oaxacan wood carvings! I used to go down to the Eyes Gallery on South Street in my 20s and early 30s (RIP The Eyes Gallery) and spend any spare cash I had left after visits to Space Boy Music and buy Oaxacan wood carvings of frogs and demons!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:27 PM
RIP Gal Costa. This is an awesome mid-career song I re-discovered when I made my tribute to her months ago just after her death
Rofflestomp 5:22:23 PM
@Lizbot, Yea, I applied to Skynet, but to no avail.
Lizbot (host) 5:22:47 PM
@Lee Chandler - I don't even need to go that far! I was just in NYC a couple weekends ago and the monk parrots were all over the entrance gate of Green Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn
iamthelabhras 5:22:52 PM
Anybody ever seen Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives? I watched it this week & was really taken by it.
Rob from Maryland 5:23:13 PM
@Lizbot, I'd love to know what birds you end up seeingd!
Lee Chandler 5:23:15 PM
Same-went to Eyes often! I always said I wanted my ashes spread out on the floor at Eyes.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:17 PM
@Rofflestomp - I will never shake the melted apocalyptic skeleton child playground scene in T2. Burned into my brain
Andrew Gruen 5:23:20 PM
Gal 💚
Lizbot (host) 5:23:27 PM
@Rob - I will be sure to report back!
Rob from Maryland 5:23:31 PM
@Lizbot and I hope you do spot a toucan
Lizbot (host) 5:23:34 PM
Hi Andrew Gruen!
Andrew Gruen 5:23:36 PM
and hello there!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:28 PM
@Rob - I hope so! I saw LOADS of chestnut-mandibled toucans in Costa Rica a few years back. They were dropping nutshells on our tin-roofed cabin very loudly!
Brian D 5:25:11 PM
Have fun in Mexico Lizbot! We definitely want to go back to Playa del Carmen sometime. One of these days
Lizbot (host) 5:25:40 PM
@iamthelabhras - Oh my god! I love that movie! The crazy fish scene! I keep trying to get my husband to watch it but he always falls asleep! It IS a very dimly-lit movie!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:00 PM
@iamthelabhras - nice! I wanna hear that beat!
Lee Chandler 5:26:22 PM
I AM SKYNET.
Rofflestomp 5:26:31 PM
@iamthelabhras, I thought spinning prayer wheels in Tibet would be more fun in past lives. Now I can do it on an iPhone. Who knew?
iamthelabhras 5:27:25 PM
@Lizbot...seriously? That's crazy. And further proof that we're living in a simulation. But, yeah, I really liked it. There was a track by a Thai artist - Shazam was kind enough to let me know it was Penguin Villa's "Acrophobia" - that I also really dug. Bits of it felt oddly Luna-like to me...
Lizbot (host) 5:27:40 PM
@Lee Chandler - I for real spent all my non-music cash on eyes gallery for years! I had a sleeping loft in my 20s and I hung Eyes Gallery Oaxacan carved skeletons with monarch butterfly wings from the rafters of the loft so they were the first thing anyone saw in my apartment
iamthelabhras 5:27:42 PM
@Rofflestomp...we do indeed live in interesting times!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:52 PM
@Lee Chandler - oh no!
Lizbot (host) 5:29:39 PM
@Brian D - I have never been there before and have always wanted to go! We might be stopping by Playa del Carmen. I hope the sargassum seaweed is not too crazy there right now!
Lizbot (host) 5:30:57 PM
@Lee Chandler - You'll have to wait until Eyes opens its new pop-up elsewhere on south street and either spread your ashes there, OR you'll end up on the floor of Jim's Steaks! Jim's grease fire burned down Eyes Gallery and NOW Jim's is talking over Eyes building and expanding their business to it. It makes me so sad!
Rofflestomp 5:32:25 PM
OMG, that is so Johnny Quest to me. Sargasso sea episode flashback.. lol
Lizbot (host) 5:33:00 PM
@Rofflestomp - I'll have to reread The Wide Sargasso Sea while I'm there! I will need to go find and watch that Johnny Quest episode!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:38 PM
@iamthelabhras - I have to dig up that Thai song! sounds up my alley!
Rofflestomp 5:34:40 PM
@Lizbot, I have all of the originals love it. Corny, but kid cool.
Michael Y 5:36:50 PM
DOUBLE PUP GOOD
Brian D 5:38:56 PM
We just got a brand new set of 7 Nepalese singing bowls. Vibrating away....
Rofflestomp 5:39:30 PM
Sweet Brian!
Rofflestomp 5:40:05 PM
7 tone C scale?
Zachary S. 5:40:40 PM
Sounds like another good show tbh
Lizbot (host) 5:40:52 PM
Hi Zachary S.!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:10 PM
Hi Michael Y - yes! Double Pup Good or DoublePlusPup!
Zachary S. 5:41:58 PM
Enjoy the vacation (or trip or hiatus, whatever it is) Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:42:10 PM
@Brian D - I love the reverberant sounds of those singing bowls. When friend of mine was very sick she took comfort in listening to those
Michael Y 5:42:59 PM
Dang this one is a groove... love that hi-hat chishhhh
Lizbot (host) 5:43:06 PM
@Zachary S. - Thanks! I will be going to Mexico for the first time
Lizbot (host) 5:43:37 PM
@Michael Y - Yes, I am really digging The Winston Brothers recently!
Dennisons 5:44:39 PM
That ending was fun in headphones.
Dennisons 5:44:49 PM
And hi!
Zachary S. 5:46:05 PM
Nice! I’ve heard good things about Mexico. Have fun!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:29 PM
@Michael Y - I suggested DoublePupGood for his ++good sub show name next week and he likes it and said it's perfect because his regular show is already Thursday mornings so it will be a doubled-up Pup takeover of the airwaves!
Zachary S. 5:46:40 PM
Exploring or beach trip?
Lizbot (host) 5:47:06 PM
Hi Dennisons! Looking forward to you & Mary's Swimming to Cambodia episode tonight!
Michael Y 5:47:14 PM
Wow perfect!
Lizbot (host) 5:47:33 PM
@Zachary S. - Both! Half the time on the beach, and half into the jungle exploring Mayan ruins!
Zachary S. 5:47:44 PM
Very cool.
Dennisons 5:48:18 PM
@liz I hadn’t seen it in a while, it was better than I remembered.
Lizbot (host) 5:49:51 PM
@Zachary S. - I leave one week from today and I have to still figure out some logistics re: getting to all the ruins I wanna fit in! Like in Costa Rica I am going to leave for these day excursions at like 4 am because it is HOTTT and I generally would go out at the crack of dawn for birding expeditions and other journeys and then be finished by 3 pm and sleep for an hour during the worst part of the heat.
Rofflestomp 5:51:13 PM
Swimming to Cambodia? What Mekong adventure travel agent booked that one?
Dennisons 5:52:01 PM
@rofflestomp the movie studio kind!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:19 PM
@Dennisons - I love that movie. My parents showed it to me at an impressionable age and I've watched it countless times since. I love his storytelling. I could listen to him for hours. I liked Monster In a Box too, but not as much. I didn't care as much for his Gray's Anatomy movie. It didn't suck me in as much and it also just has some yuck stuff about eye injuries that I can't stomach. The gross eye section the one area of the Mutter Museum I couldn't handle.
Rofflestomp 5:53:01 PM
LOL, Coppula Travel agency. :) Got it.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:07 PM
@Rofflestomp - ha! That would probably involve more than a few waterborne parasites!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:14 PM
@Rofflestomp - haha! I still think about the candiru stories I heard from a friend who grew up in Paraguay and stayed in Brazil with her Brazilian boyfriend. ughhhhhhhh. No rainforest river swimming for me!
Rofflestomp 5:55:22 PM
I refuse to even think about swimming in the tropics. I might go to Malaysia and the last thing I am doing is going swimming in anything but a pool with chlorine.
Lizbot (host) 5:55:40 PM
@Rofflestomp - not to mention the last time I was on a river in a boat it was in Costa Rica and a massive crocodile sidled up to our sad little dinky boat and I was UNEASY
Lizbot (host) 5:57:47 PM
@Rofflestomp - So I DID swim in the Pacific Ocean along the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica and the water was like bath-water warm and kinda dark, not at all like the Caribbean coast of CR. There were a lot of wild dogs on the beach. Honestly the biggest threat was the ceviche in carts in 100 degree heat that tourists were buying and then getting sick!
Rofflestomp 5:57:49 PM
Exactly!
Rofflestomp 5:59:44 PM
I lived and did some school in Texas, and the lakes were hot on the surface and got cooler as you dove down! That was enough for me.
Lizbot (host) 5:59:53 PM
@Rofflestomp - okay, ALSO the crocodiles...they were ON the beach in some towns...ON. THE. BEACH. like waiting to strike... I went on one boat to see spinner dolphins and we had to wade way out into the water to get to this little boat moored a ways out and that beach was so deep before you reach the water and no bathers hang there or sunbathe, it's just empty, because of all the cocodrilos (I love that word!)
Dennisons 6:00:40 PM
@lizbot I saw it on Prism a long time ago a few times, each time I’d see a part I had to watch to the end. I’m not sure if I’d ever seen it all the way through. Jonathan Demme had quite the streak making Stop Making Sense, Something Wild and Swimming all in a row.
Lizbot (host) 6:00:58 PM
@Rofflestomp - I love to go to Malaysia! I have a friend from Kuala Lumpur. Her dad is Indian and her mom is Chinese and they met in Malaysia
Rofflestomp 6:02:11 PM
On the beach with a gun is not my idea of a good time, but I don't see a way around that one. EGADS!
Lizbot (host) 6:03:43 PM
@Dennisons - For real! All great movies! I am so glad Hattie loves Talking Heads. myself and some other DJs had a great time dancing in the aisles of the Princeton Garden Theatre when we sponsored a screening of Stop Making Sense there years ago!
Lizbot (host) 6:04:15 PM
@Dennisons - Jon wrote a really great intro and came out with the boombox and tape playing the intro to Psycho Killer just like in the movie!
Rofflestomp 6:04:20 PM
@Lizbot, my girlfriend is Chinese doing work at the University of Malaysia. It's a USA friendly country, so maybe later this year. Dunno, but it's on the radar again.
Lizbot (host) 6:04:48 PM
@Rofflestomp - I will stay the hell away from THAT particular beach if I ever go back to CR!
Andrew Gruen 6:04:55 PM
omg cardiacs! I hardly ever hear them played.
Lizbot (host) 6:05:25 PM
@Dennisons - Tell Mary I heard her on Tom's show telling her crazy Subway Wiccan firing story Tuesday night!
Andrew Gruen 6:05:41 PM
dana k played them recently, though.
Number 6 6:06:04 PM
MSD says 132 online Lizbetters currently.
Rofflestomp 6:06:20 PM
Well there go my expat ideas about Costa Rica. lol
Lizbot (host) 6:06:26 PM
@Andrew Gruen - I LOVE them! So manic! They hit all the right notes for me - prog AND punk and amazing instrumentation! Ever see the doc about them??
Andrew Gruen 6:07:08 PM
I haven't seen it but I keep meaning to!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:13 PM
@Andrew Gruen - Dana is the only other person at PRB I ever hear play Cardiacs
Lizbot (host) 6:07:26 PM
@Number 6- haha, thanks for the update!
Dennisons 6:08:04 PM
@lizbot that showing sounds awesome! Mary and I both had a number of quitting/fired stories but that was the best one.
Andrew Gruen 6:09:06 PM
I do love the Mares Nest video and Fairytales from the Rotten Shed
Lizbot (host) 6:09:17 PM
@Rofflestomp - oh, I STILL would loooove to like in Costa Rica! Except rainy season and terciopelos aka bothrups aspers everywhere is a BIG downside! I kept meeting people who had friends or family members killed by them and they're everywhere and so hard to spot! My sister-in-law lived in Costa Rica for years. That's who we were visiting while there. And she had some horror stories!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:46 PM
@Andrew Gruen - I wonder where it's available at the moment...hopefully streaming somewhere or on youtube
dan Cochrane 6:10:18 PM
Hi Lizbot, BrianD, all others. Boy, I’m tardy, subbed 7th grade math today. Played Dark side of the moon for every class. I told them it was either that or one hour of a baby crying. No contest.
Lizbot (host) 6:10:34 PM
@Dennisons - haha, it was a good one! I dare say best of the night. Good episode too. I had to catch Matt Berry talking about prog!
Lizbot (host) 6:10:46 PM
Hi Dan Cochrane!
Ted 6:10:48 PM
Cardiacs rule! Lizbot in the pond!
DSM 6:11:07 PM
Hey Lizbot! I just realized I totally forgot to compile my "Tulum Tips" for you, but I'm sure you've figured it all out. I would have basically just said Cenotes, Tacos and the Beach anyway lol.
Lizbot (host) 6:11:12 PM
Hi Ted! haha, glad you enjoyed it!
Lizbot (host) 6:11:16 PM
Hi DSM!
DSM 6:11:42 PM
Great tunes tonight
Lizbot (host) 6:12:01 PM
@Dan Cochrane - I have a middle-schooler. I feel your pain in subbing for 7th grade math! haha, a good memory for those kids, for sure! I'd be psyched if my math class consisted of Floyd...and maybe NO math?
Dennisons 6:12:39 PM
@lizbot Matt Berry quitting a telesales job and storming out with his headphones still on was great too!
Rofflestomp 6:12:54 PM
@Lizbot, There was a place on a hilltop with a view of three waterfalls on five acres for 30,000 USD. I really have always had that as an off center goal. But fuck snakes. lol
dan Cochrane 6:13:15 PM
With a side portion of David Lindley El Rayo X, he too passed earlier this week.
Lizbot (host) 6:13:47 PM
@DSM - Thanks! oh yeah! I DO plan to go to the cenotes, but every site says they get really crowded, and also the tour groups can be kind of a rip-off, even charging people for taking photos with their own cameras! So I gotta figure out some lesser-visited spots at least-busy times. Also, WHAT IS TACO BEACH?! Oh wait...tacos AND beach...I got excited for a second there
dan Cochrane 6:14:16 PM
This is really haunting!
Rofflestomp 6:14:47 PM
That was a cool cover for sure
Lizbot (host) 6:15:32 PM
@Dennisons - ha, true! I love him from Garth Marengue's Dark Place and loved that his friend kinda tricked him into attending a GMDP convention of sorts! Those fans must've been so psyched!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:36 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Oh yeah, RIP David Lindley! I think you might be a favorite sub for some of these kids!
dan Cochrane 6:17:38 PM
I still haven’t been able to find, “Citizen’s Band” by Jonathan Demme. I’ve seen all his others. But not all his Roger Corman first films.
Lizbot (host) 6:17:42 PM
@Dennisons - I missed this but Tuesday night at Ardmore Music Hall Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison performed all of Remain In Light.
Lizbot (host) 6:18:33 PM
@Rofflestomp - I love that cover so much but have very little info on the woman who sang it. She's Swedish and was on Dolores Records but not a lot about her online.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:10 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Yet another director who cut his teeth working for Corman!
dan Cochrane 6:19:14 PM
Funny you said that! One girl approached the desk before lunch, “You’re now my 2nd favorite sub!” Dang baby dang! All I would aspire to!
Ossy 6:19:50 PM
Hello Liz, that Cardiacs R.E.S. song felt like something of Banjo Kazooie and nice rainbow in the dark
Lizbot (host) 6:20:18 PM
@Dan Cochrane - My kid would love you as a sub! She's an 8th grader and lives for music and loves that the art teacher always talks bands with her and puts on music in class
Lizbot (host) 6:20:22 PM
Hi Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:21 PM
@Ossy - Ah! My husband played and still reminisces about Banjo Kazoooie! I never played it but it sounded really fun!
dan Cochrane 6:21:32 PM
I just watched his reboot of Manchurian Candidate. It was better than I thought it might be. I forgot that I haven’t seen his Charade reboot either.
Dennisons 6:22:04 PM
@lizbot whoa! I saw Andrian Belew was just at the Keswick.
Lizbot (host) 6:22:27 PM
@Dennisons - I always think of that flight attendant guy who opened the inflatable slide, flipped everyone off, and then slid onto the tarmac when I think of great quitting stories!
DSM 6:22:31 PM
I was there about 8 years ago, but one of my favorite things about it was how laid back and chill everything was. None of the cenotes we visited were what I'd consider overly crowded, a comfortable and friendly amount of people. We just rented a car in Cancun then took it down and got around that way, then took it back up at the end. Nothing felt sketchy tbh. Tho again I can't say what has changed in 8 years.
dan Cochrane 6:22:48 PM
The class only had one request- AC/DC.
Rofflestomp 6:23:08 PM
@Lizbot, Stina Nordenstam is my Swedish goddess of cool covers. I am not familiar with Paola, but she sounds like a name I know other than similar to one of the hosts. lol.Swedish
DSM 6:23:15 PM
we didn't do any tour groups
Lizbot (host) 6:23:29 PM
@Dan Cochrane - I gotta check out that reboot still. I'm usually wary of reboots but he can pull it off
dan Cochrane 6:23:47 PM
Rewatching School of Rock last week inspired me somewhat.
DSM 6:23:58 PM
I always think this is Christine McVie!
dan Cochrane 6:24:39 PM
Meryl Streep isn’t Angela Lansbury.
Lizbot (host) 6:24:43 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Oh my god, that figures. AC/DC NEVER dies. Middle schoolers of many generations turn to AC/DC for some unknown reason. I never got into them, but my brother had a phase so I heard them a LOT when he got his license and I didn't have mine yet and had to be subjected to his musics to get rides to rehearsals
Lizbot (host) 6:25:51 PM
@DSM - I get the impression the cenotes have gotten more overrun in recent years. Tulum as well. I hope to go to them on off-days and early hours to skip crowds!
Rofflestomp 6:26:51 PM
@dan Cochrane, But Streep sure can make one think she is. :)
dan Cochrane 6:26:59 PM
Many years ago I was at a HS football game and the marching band played the TV theme song to Land Of The Giants. I felt like I was in a time warp, the ballsiest choice I ever heard. Loved it!
dan Cochrane 6:27:39 PM
True, true, good point.
dan Cochrane 6:28:36 PM
Old Irwin Allen sci fi tv series. The themes were better than the shows!
Ossy 6:29:55 PM
Liz - Currently stuck on the final battle against the smelly green witch! Big up kudos to your husband playing Banjo Kazooie, I started that 2 years back, inspired playing DK64. Yes, it is fun and has a sequel, Banjo Tooie!
Rofflestomp 6:30:09 PM
@dan Cochrane, totally agree!
DSM 6:31:20 PM
PRONK
Rofflestomp 6:32:46 PM
@dan Cochrane, Both Lost in Space themes were great. Not shure why they changed it mid-streem, but they were rather cool. All of them were great for his productions for sure.
Lizbot (host) 6:34:37 PM
@DSM - PRONK is the sound of toucans dropping nutshells on my cabin roof, but I don't care who much noise those birds make, I want to to come out in droves on my Mexico trip!
DSM 6:35:37 PM
lol
Lizbot (host) 6:35:50 PM
@Ossy - My husband's dad is a programmer and always had loads of games, plus he has five kids and three were a lot younger than my husband so he played some games I never heard of!
Lizbot (host) 6:36:58 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Whoa! I was in both and marching band. I would've been happy if our bandleader's choices had been so bold, but alas!
Ted 6:36:59 PM
What’s the name of the Cardiacs doc? Have you heard Perhaps Contraption? They’re a UK pronk marching band. Very visual. Just extraordinary.
dan Cochrane 6:37:28 PM
Are you staying at White Lotus type resort? Half kidding.
dan Cochrane 6:38:53 PM
I heard Smackwater Jack once too! Carol King. So funny.
Lizbot (host) 6:39:14 PM
@Ted - No I haven't! I gotta check that out if it's anything like Cardiacs/pronky!
Lizbot (host) 6:39:37 PM
@Dan Cochrane - haha, I don't plan on it! I don't wanna encounter any dead bodies in the water!
Ossy 6:39:48 PM
Liz - Nice stuff, Liz! Your husband has a great extraordinary life! Speaking of games, that new Mario movie is looking great, especially Peach!
dan Cochrane 6:40:31 PM
Or worse, that beach where you age a year every minute!
dan Cochrane 6:42:16 PM
Liz have you seen Black Orpheus, set in Rio de Jinero? Really cool. All during carnival. I rewatched it the other day. This reminds me of it.
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:42:33 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Another outstanding show! I've been listening mostly in the shuttle vehicle, but now I'm back and base and thru the airlock and beaming myself into The Chat.
Rofflestomp 6:42:55 PM
I would double down on sun screen on that beach.
Lizbot (host) 6:43:16 PM
@Ossy - oh boy,i heard about the Mario casting displeasure from some Mario fans!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:23 PM
Hi Richard from Rocky Hill!
Lizbot (host) 6:44:09 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - Glad you caught it a bunch of the show!
Lizbot (host) 6:45:10 PM
@Dan Cochrane - oh god, I saw a parody of that Thinner movie...I think that's what it was called? Or younger? I am not a fan of M. Night Shyamalan
dan Cochrane 6:45:45 PM
Old
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:46:44 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Thanks so much for the Harry Belafonte spin. I'm old enough to remember was a Truly HUGE Star Belafonte was in the 1950s and beyond. Maybe the most widely popular Black entertainer of that time ... but always clearly his own man.
dan Cochrane 6:47:02 PM
Yea, his movies all get really low rotten tomato scores, post 6th sense, unbreakable, signs.
Lizbot (host) 6:47:19 PM
@Dan Cochrane - oh right! Yeah, I don't wanna get trapped on a beach that ages me. Seemed like a hack-y version of a Bunuel concept like Exterminating Angel or Discreet Charm
Andrew Gruen 6:47:29 PM
@Ted - the cardiacs documentary is called Some Fairytales from the Rotten Shed. I guess I have seen it!
Brian D 6:47:30 PM
Ina Mina Dika =so much fun
dan Cochrane 6:48:03 PM
Exactly.
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:48:16 PM
That is, big time entertainment but without any pandering or compromise to the dominate commercial culture. Wow! Big admiration from me, I'll tell you ...
Lizbot (host) 6:48:21 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - Belafonte is such an incredible singer and person! ALSO major credit to him from introducing musicians like Miriam Makeba to an American audience
Andrew Gruen 6:48:48 PM
King Missile was so much better with Dogbowl
Andrew Gruen 6:49:02 PM
this is one of their best songs
Lizbot (host) 6:49:23 PM
@Brian D - I love Kishore and his work with Asha Bhosle!
dan Cochrane 6:49:28 PM
Geez, David Lindsey, Wayne Shorter the same week!
dan Cochrane 6:49:44 PM
Lindley
Lizbot (host) 6:50:14 PM
@Andrew Gruen - YES! Srsly! I love John S. Hall so much more with Dogbowl! JSH had a mini tour a few years back and we tried to get him to come to Philly but it was not meant to be
Rob from Maryland 6:50:27 PM
These last several songs have been great!
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:51:06 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Absolutely! How many South African Black talents like Ms. Makeba were introduced to mainstream popularity in the 1950s? Not many! But Belafonte had the clout to enable it, and he used it, bless him.
Lizbot (host) 6:52:34 PM
@Dan Cochrane - RIP Wayne Shorter! I had a moment driving to Princeton to buy a used shelf last summer where I was in a Weather Report mood and listened to nothing but Weather Report all the way there. And of course now I know more about Peter Erskine's family thanks to his daughter Maya's show Pen15, starring her and his wife!
Brian D 6:52:47 PM
Taught guitar at 2 of the actual School o Rock locations here (no relation to the movie). Every beginner guitar student wanted to learn AC/DC. I was happy to help. Angus is a fave of the kids
Lizbot (host) 6:53:05 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Glad you're enjoying them!
DSM 6:54:35 PM
Liquor Store!
Lizbot (host) 6:54:36 PM
@Brian D - Yeah, AC/DC never goes away...(you can tell I don't like them!) I think the original guy was kinda fascinating in a tragic, drunken way. But yeah, not a fan of any era of AC/DC. Ever hear that theory that they always experience a resurgence in interest in the US during a recession?
dan Cochrane 6:55:06 PM
I got to see Weather Report with Shorter and Jaco twice in Chicago. Black Market tour. Shakti with John McGlaughlin opened.
Lizbot (host) 6:56:11 PM
@Brian D - I was just in Doylestown on Sunday and passed their School of Rock location. Stopped in Siren Records and it was PACKED. Gen Z loves vinyl. Watched a couple kids no more than 10 years old break the video game console in there, one holding a copy of London Calling. They didn't mean to, but they were smacking the keys so hard and then it glitched out!
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:56:15 PM
@ dan Cochrane Wow! I am more than slightly envious LOL ...
Lee Chandler 6:56:20 PM
Always appreciated Harry Belafonte, however, few months back watched The World, The Flesh and The Devil & it’s made me seek his work out more.
dan Cochrane 6:56:32 PM
Bri I feel the same. Someone once told me Walmart bought their whole catalog. I believe it.
Lizbot (host) 6:57:36 PM
@Dan Cochrane - oh wow! Would love that show!
dan Cochrane 6:57:37 PM
Pastorius such a tragic end. Beyond gifted.
Lizbot (host) 6:58:26 PM
@Dan Cochrane - two different ppl have gifted my husband the Jaco Pastorius biography since he's a bassist
Dennisons 6:58:50 PM
@lizbot Siren should get a hold of that Track Abd Field arcade game to really get something for those kids to slam bottoms on. My friends and I were practically playing Noel Peart drum solos on that thing when I was a kid.
dan Cochrane 6:59:47 PM
Nice! I’m embarrassed to say I still haven’t heard his one solo album in it’s entirety.
Lizbot (host) 6:59:59 PM
@Dan Cochrane - I currently live only a couple exits from where Jaco grew up in Norristown. His death was so crazy. I heard he could be a bit difficult, but wow, excessive force for a bouncer!
dan Cochrane 7:00:30 PM
Yep
dan Cochrane 7:01:32 PM
His contribution to Hijera Joni too!
CARLOS RAMONE. 7:02:19 PM
@liz..Blair at siren had purchased most of my albums and 45 about 10 years ago. Hopefully they all sold by now
Brian D 7:03:32 PM
Ya taught at the Doylestown and "Princeton" (aka Hamilton at the time) SOR locations. Nobody left tho that I know at Dtown. Fun job for a few years there until I got the current job. Good kids. Polite bunch at both locs. Always wanted to learn
Number 6 7:05:15 PM
MSD says 124 online Lizbotteers currently.
Lizbot (host) 7:05:35 PM
Hi Carlos Ramone!
Brian D 7:06:03 PM
Blair helped one of our old bands out w putting out a cd. Siren Records is great. Spent some hours there. Mostly at the smaller 1990s era location. Brief moment there they rented dvds... some good foreign flicks.
Lizbot (host) 7:06:24 PM
@Dennisons - Oh wow, I haven't played that one but George spent a LARGE portion of his youth in an arcade on Chestnut Street, growing up in Center City, and he likely has played it
dan Cochrane 7:06:35 PM
My home town, Chicagoland. Sounds note for note!
Lizbot (host) 7:06:58 PM
@Carlos Ramone - I hope! They have a great selection!
Lizbot (host) 7:07:46 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Yes! I love Hejira. Was playing Amelia from that album on ++good recently. Wonderful gooey fretless

Andrew Gruen 7:08:24 PM
YES
dan Cochrane 7:08:46 PM
I used to pass Steve Albini’s studio twice a day, Belmont Ave., to and from my work studio. Never saw any rock stars.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:55 PM
@Brian D - A good number of friends taught at the original School of Rock location. Matt Hollenberg and a kid I babysat a long time ago, Jonathan Pfeffer, both excellent musicians! I heard a LOT of stories about Paul Green...
Lizbot (host) 7:10:19 PM
THIS f'n BRIDGE

Rick Nielsen had a pizza parlour northwest suburbs, he’d serve you on occasion.
Lizbot (host) 7:11:14 PM
@Dan Cochrane - my husband's old bandmate worked at electrical audio for a while. I used to follow all the stories on the ea forum but haven't been on there in years
dan Cochrane 7:11:49 PM
There’s not one musician credited individually in that movie. Just a band mentioned. Weird.
dan Cochrane 7:13:13 PM
Marx Brothers!
dan Cochrane 7:14:01 PM
Lizyeronarollgirldontstopnow
Lizbot (host) 7:14:01 PM
@Dan Cochrane - I loved the Dream Police video as a kid and enjoyed Rick's outfits!
Lizbot (host) 7:14:12 PM
@Dan Cochrane- haha, thanks!
CARLOS RAMONE. 7:15:38 PM
@liz…great Simpsons one where Apu is washing his Firebird singing Dream Police
dan Cochrane 7:15:40 PM
Even their Austin City Limits appearance rocks hard.
Lizbot (host) 7:15:48 PM
@Brian D - Siren still has a buncha used DVDs on the floor if you're willing to dig through em! They had a big Weyes Blood display - hometown hero! - in both windows this weekend
Ossy 7:15:51 PM
Liz - Cheer-Accident Dream Police, felt like a little remix of a fiery boss battle in Zelda 64
Lizbot (host) 7:17:47 PM
@Ossy - I gotta acquire some more of this chip-tune and post-chip-tune you speak of! My favorite game soundtracks of recent years are Night In the Woods and all the Katamari Damacy stuff
dan Cochrane 7:17:59 PM
Liz, science teachers can’t tell kids about A.I. I realized today. They’ll discover No More English for starters.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:03 PM
@Carlos Ramone - oh my god, I forgot about that!
dan Cochrane 7:19:32 PM
This is ENO guitar!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:16 PM
@Carlos Ramone - A very intense childhood memory: I was in my 3rd grade best friend's mom's Pontiac Firebird when it CAUGHT FIRE. We all got out safely and the closest business was a biker bar we had to all go in so my friend's mom could call for help!
Lee Chandler 7:21:43 PM
Lizbot that is insane!
dan Cochrane 7:22:09 PM
MONICA a must for middle schoolers!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:20 PM
@Dan Cochrane - The kids KNOW. I haven't heard about any classmates of my kids using AI to cheat...YET. But it's probably coming
dan Cochrane 7:23:10 PM
Redefine plagiarism
Lizbot (host) 7:23:27 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Yes! My 8th grader got into The Linda Lindas a few years back and we got tickets to see them with her during their tour last year, but it got rescheduled due to covid to a date she was at summer camp, sadly. She loves "Monica"!
dan Cochrane 7:24:15 PM
Are they very young like they sound?
Lizbot (host) 7:25:45 PM
@Lee Chandler - YUP. And my friend's mom was SO proud of that car. She loved that thing. This was in the 80s, and she called AAA to get it towed. I don't remember how we got home, I just remember being a little intimidated in the biker bar! I was maybe 10 years old. I know we were stuck there for while. I think her husband picked us up after AAA left with the car. I never saw that car again!
Ossy 7:26:56 PM
Liz - Katamari, I know little of that game, of it, if it's from Namco. Sounds fun. Speaking of woods in the night, love Kokiri Forest/Saria song and Ordon Woods music🍀🌳🟢💚🌲
Lizbot (host) 7:26:58 PM
@Dan Cochrane - They're teenagers, although the oldest is just now starting college
Andrew Gruen 7:27:54 PM
The Linda Lindas were so much fun when they opened for jawbreaker last year
Lizbot (host) 7:28:23 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Bela Salazar is the oldest I think. She wrote about worrying they'd be seen as a novelty act who people won't care about once they're all adults, but I think they have staying power
Lizbot (host) 7:28:33 PM
@Andrew Gruen - I WISH id seen that show!
Andrew Gruen 7:31:00 PM
For the encore Jawbreaker played Want and had the Lindas join them. That was a fun moment
Lizbot (host) 7:32:39 PM
@Andrew Gruen - oh nice!!
Lizbot (host) 7:34:16 PM
@Dan Cochrane - I tracked down a region-free DVD of the Japanese movie about teen girls forming a band called Linda Linda Linda from the 2000s, based on a song by the 80s/90s Japanese band The Blue Hearts. I liked Baseball Bear's version of Linda Linda from the movie a lot more than the original Blue Hearts version, and I love The Linda Lindas' cover
Lizbot (host) 7:35:12 PM
@Dan Cochrane - You teach teens and play them movie in class, and this is a solid movie! It's just hard to track down
dan Cochrane 7:41:08 PM
I want to hear everything they have.
dan Cochrane 7:43:17 PM
Halfway through class girls just stand up walk over and start braiding each other’s hair. Just turn and look at me now and then, see if I notice. Surreal.
Lizbot (host) 7:43:36 PM
@Dan Cochrane - Another way they resonated with Gen Z girls: There was a reboot of The Babysitters Club as a TV show beginning a few years ago that was very popular with girls my daughter's age when they were in about 5th/6th grade and brought back my daughter's favorite character from that series, the Japanese-American artistic kid, Claudia Kishi, so Linda Lindas made a banger of a track about her
dan Cochrane 7:44:37 PM
Or they’d come up, get two pieces of tape, color them gold, make a X and put it over their mouth.
dan Cochrane 7:46:00 PM
We’re gonna MISS YOU, big (and stylish) shoes to fill.
DSM 7:46:33 PM

Rob from Maryland 7:54:39 PM
I'll be so glad to have it play in my head for three weeks!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:42 PM
@Dan Cochrane - brouhaha is yet another fight word that I believe, if memory serves, comes from Ireland, much like donnybrook
Lizbot (host) 7:55:00 PM
@Rob from Maryland - yeah, I can't resist singing along with this one!

Thanks again Lizbot. Much love, you folks be safe. Happy hip time to George. I really don't think he is gonna escape from crocks swimming, so, just sayin'. No swimmin' George!
