@Rofflestomp - First time I saw that place in NYC years ago I tried a cornflake flavor that was meh, so I didn't go back. Honestly, the thin mint has these swirls of a mint goo that's of a toothpaste consistency but I like it anyway! with chunks of chocolate cookie!

@Readie - I would've been bummed about no show before having a kid, but man, I do NOT miss having to schlep the kid to school in early morning pre-plowed streets only to have the school call for last-minute early dismissal and other shenanigans! Although she DOES still like to sled with her friend, so I guess I shouldn't be a grouch about snow

@Rofflestomp - My uncle and cousins live in WA and I ventured up Mt. Rainer high enough to reach the snow even in summer when I was a teen. My uncle is in eastern WA - Spokane - and my cousins are in Bellevue and Seattle

@Addie - Are you driving towards snow or snowbound at home? We got a TINY bit of snow finally here in Philly a couple days ago and it melted right away. Fine by me, MOSTLy because George still struggles with his leg injury every day. He's walking unassisted most of the time, but does have to rely on a cane here and there, and ice and snow are his enemy!

I was lucky and on the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria in Canada during the summer solstice and they announced and stopped the ship to let us know. Priceless!

@Addie- that sounds exciting! I was watching that new Eugene Levy show last night and it was all about Finland and sled dog traveling, so cool!

@Readie it sounds like the fest is 200K in debt. They say they’re pausing for this year, but they’ve been in financial trouble for a while now.

@Lizbot @Readie The Phila Folk Festival is indeed canceled for 2023. The Phila Folksong Society is in the red and is in the process of reorganizing and paying off its debts.

Yeah no fest this year. After Jason soured every act last year with his awful showboating about what a great job he's doing and how there's gonna be 60 more folk fests. He resigned and the fss has no money for fest

@Lizbot, early spring is early. It was 80+ last Thursday when I was out birding in the afternoon. A couple of days later I was able to see a flock of 67 Tundra (Whistling) Swans on the water. Then they took off.

@Tyler B- I kinda remember someone gabbing on and on about how great everything was...

Good news is: fundraising was off to a tremendous start. After a zoom meeting held by the chairpersons a huge rush of donations and member renewals came in

@jimboo - We went to the puck fair years ago and every year a poet is dubbed the official poet of the fair. Only in Ireland.

I was in a grouchy mood that year so maybe I'm just under a cloud. But yeah the guy coming up between every act bragging about his wonderful work was a little annoying. Top it off with the Disney concert that took the stage Saturday night.. gotta say it was one of my least favorite fests ever

@Rob - 80+?!!! wow. It hasn't reached higher than the mid-60s here yet, but still crazy. Cherry blossoms blooming early, too early for the mid-April Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Shofuso House & Garden in Fairmount Park that I look forward to every year. This is the first year they're bringing back the sakura fest since 2019

@Lizbot, last Thursday there was a frontal boundary (a warm front) between DC and Phlly, so it never got anywhere near 80 up your way that day. (I was looking at a real-time temperature map throughout the day.) Our cherries and magnolias are blooming too. I'm glad that your cherry blossom festival is comiung back!

@Teresa - A lot better, thank you. It was pretty rough for a while there, scary how fast it spread. The hospital was so overcrowded but the doctors there actually diagnosed the issue correctly, so it was worth the wait. I am still taking my RX but started feeling way way better days ago

@Mary - The first (and most instantly recognizable) part is the simplest, but it's really in three movements and it gets gnarly! I love it. Oil Gusher is another great one

@Mary - I have a lifelong philosophy George has heard me spout off often that everything can be sorted into two categories: Powerhouse, or a dog dragging its butt across the ground. That is the binary.

@Mary - haha, yeah, I played clarinet in school (purely chose it because I saw The Benny Goodman Story on PBS at an impressionable age) and I can't even begin with some of Ray Scott's compositions! He was a bandleader, composer and electronic instrument inventor, and he made two very different styles of music and broke boundaries with both

Hey we always are making/eating dinner when the shows rolling so I miss out on the chat, but I wanted to say Tom Chapin was my FIRST ever concert. Mom was a big Harry Chapin head and took us to see Tom a lot - he seemed to play around North Jerz pretty frequently as a kid. So cool to hear you talking about Whale Song.

@Rofflestomp - Woodwinds took on a whole other unfamiliar and somewhat uncomfortable association early in the pandemic when spit flying around wasn't the best thing!

@Joe - my mom drove a little Volkswagon Beetle for most of her life and it always freaked me out that Harry got crushed in a bug by a tractor trailer

@Readie - George played an odd show in Scranton many years ago with a band named Fifty Foot Furbie and the police showed up and broke up the show because of some rowdy teens out front! there was also a giant illuminated Winnie the Pooh nearby for some unknown reason

@Lizbot - I'm pretty sure I had landed in the Philly area by then! Sounds like a wild party nigh- "there ain't no party like a Scranton party cuz a Scranton party don't stop" (The Office)

@Readie - Assuming you slid into Philly on a wave of banana peels

@Readie - George & his bandmate were the oldest ones there and it was a warehouse near a high school so I think word spread of this show spread to these kids and someone managed to get them booze. They were spiking these stuffed animals the other band brought all over the room!

There is a Benny Goodman exit or road on the Canada 1 Highway across southern Canada. True story. I saw it!

All my rowdy shenanigans happened in Bucks & Montgomery counties!

I’m so used to listening to “I Can Hear The Heart …” all the way through it’s always surprising to hear one of the songs out on its own in the wild.

@Readie - George is currently sitting in a middle school production of Into the Woods, but I'll ask him when I can! I might be misremembering what kind of building it was. I did not go on tour with him, but he told this tour story with great relish because there were several absurd elements.

@Dennisons - I Can hear the heart beating as one and And then nothing turned itself inside out are my YLT favorites

@ Lizbot (host) LOVED the snarly vocal FX on "Killer"! Love that real rockabilly!

@Dennisons - This song has inklings of ICHTHBAO era YLT. Most recent yo la tengo show I saw was at The Dell East last summer with Japanese Breakfast and all the kids were there for JP and didn't have a clue who YLT were!

@Dennisons / Mary - I just got tickets yesterday for Alvvays with Alex G at The Dell August 26th. It's another benefit show, this time booked by Sean Agnew. I am not a huge Alvvays fan, but they're a nice breezy summer indie pop band for as summer night in Fairmount Park!

@Dennisons / Mary - This summer at the Mann so far it's just beck, which isn't til September and I don't care about Beck, Roots picnic, cake...not much. Don't care about any of these. Hoping they'll add more
