hello hello!
Rob from Maryland 5:01:18 PM
¡Buenas tardes!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:01 PM
Hello Rob!
Rob from Maryland 5:02:05 PM
I'm glad you're feeling better, Lizbot!
Rofflestomp 5:02:22 PM
Hey Bot!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:39 PM
Thanks! Was really feeling good for the first time yesterday. Today I'm kinda tired but still good!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:44 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!
Rob from Maryland 5:02:45 PM
Hello stomp!
Rob from Maryland 5:02:54 PM
Yikes, Lizbot!
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:03:18 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Indeed, I hope you're now feeling ... well ... DoublePlusGood!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:41 PM
Hi Richard! ha!
Rofflestomp 5:04:04 PM
Hiya Rob.
Rofflestomp 5:04:41 PM
Yeah, hope your over that stuff Lizbot.
Lizbot (host) 5:06:12 PM
Rofflestomp - still taking antibiotics, but feeling mostly 100%!
Lizbot (host) 5:06:35 PM
I had to miss some shows and events I'd like to have seen in the past week and a half, but so be it!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:37 PM
this song reminds me to bring out the cardboard lamb and rabbit trader Joe's wall decorations an employee there gave my then-toddler daughter for springtime!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:24 PM
Tryna wake myself up with some upbeat music on this overcast day
Readie 5:21:57 PM
Hi Lizbot! back in the saddle again! Good to hear you are feeling BETTAH!
Rofflestomp 5:22:22 PM
The only lamb I have is in the fridge. lol
Rofflestomp 5:22:48 PM
Hey Readie!
Readie 5:22:58 PM
Hi Roffle!
Lizbot (host) 5:23:23 PM
Hi Readie!!
Readie 5:24:09 PM
💖 Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:28 PM
@Rofflestomp - bad memories of easter dinner at my grandmom's as a kid with her lamb and mint jelly. blech!
Rofflestomp 5:25:41 PM
Oh dear! :)
Readie 5:28:20 PM
Hi Rob! How've you been?
Lizbot (host) 5:28:29 PM
I just can't hang with mint jelly!
Rofflestomp 5:29:01 PM
I use Rosemary, garlic and butter. Mint Jelly is out of my league for sure.
Lizbot (host) 5:29:14 PM
This song is well-suited for a robot dance
Readie 5:29:49 PM
"Mint" and "jelly" are mutually exclusive keywords.
Rofflestomp 5:30:13 PM
Spot on Readie!
Lizbot (host) 5:30:17 PM
@Roffle - yeah, I love fresh mint and all manner of mint desserts and mint tea, but have been scarred by memories of mint jelly
Lizbot (host) 5:30:24 PM
@Readie - TRUTH
Lizbot (host) 5:30:46 PM
How have you been, Read? It is too foggy in Philly. It's getting to my head
Readie 5:30:56 PM
ty roff & Lizbot!
Rofflestomp 5:31:36 PM
Girl scout cookies are my only acceptable form of mint.
Readie 5:31:43 PM
@Lizbot- I am doing well- got most of my show prepped so I HAD to stop by !!
Readie 5:32:20 PM
Anyone try the dual Kit-Kats w/mint yet?
Rofflestomp 5:33:09 PM
Take me down the rabbit hole Readie.! lol
Lizbot (host) 5:33:15 PM
@Rofflestomp - or thin mint ice cream, as made by milkbar!
Readie 5:34:10 PM
uh-oh - I just had a vision of Mr. Creosote...
Lizbot (host) 5:34:34 PM
@Readie - Thanks! Glad to hear from you! Feels good to get show prep done early!
Rofflestomp 5:34:54 PM
@Lizbot, I just don't go there. But, it's a bigger world than I give it credit for at times. Worth a look.
Lizbot (host) 5:35:16 PM
Readie, those mint kit-kats look prettier than they taste imho, but they're an acceptable road-trip gas station treat
Readie 5:35:28 PM
True, that, Lizbot! Got up fairly early today
Rofflestomp 5:35:54 PM
One awesome Bowie tune!
Readie 5:36:19 PM
@Lizbot- ok, I will resist the temptation to try the mist KitKats but I admit, they look good on the big sreen!
Readie 5:36:31 PM
*mint*
Lizbot (host) 5:36:45 PM
@Rofflestomp - First time I saw that place in NYC years ago I tried a cornflake flavor that was meh, so I didn't go back. Honestly, the thin mint has these swirls of a mint goo that's of a toothpaste consistency but I like it anyway! with chunks of chocolate cookie!
Readie 5:37:00 PM
Bowie feels good rn
Lizbot (host) 5:37:33 PM
Too bad George isn't here right now cuz this is one of his favorite bowie songs and he never can resist the urge to do a silly dance to this song!
Andrew Gruen 5:37:34 PM
hello there!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:40 PM
Hi Andrew!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:10 PM
@Andrew - we're talking mints and lambs and minty lambs
Rofflestomp 5:38:34 PM
Mint Mr Magoo Lizbot!
Readie 5:38:34 PM
Hello Andrew!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:06 PM
I am missing the middle school play right not, but my kid opted not to be in it this year and stage manage instead. Into the Woods Jr...Sondheim for kids. So George is there instead of prancing to bowie
Rob from Maryland 5:39:08 PM
Hi Readie! I've been mostly ok. How about you?
Lizbot (host) 5:39:34 PM
@Rofflestomp - Ha! I'll start calling it that! I got some during my infection to help soothe my throat
Lizbot (host) 5:39:42 PM
sooo minty fresh and cooling!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:24 PM
@Rob - How's early spring down in Maryland?
Rofflestomp 5:40:27 PM
Chinese medicine? All good. :)
Andrew Gruen 5:41:11 PM
i prefer the mint-free varieties of lamb
Readie 5:41:22 PM
Hey @Rob- doing just fine, thanks! I wish we had more snow the other day though - it only stuck for a few minutes!
Rofflestomp 5:41:25 PM
Minter Magoo. Just sayin'
Lizbot (host) 5:41:41 PM
@Rob - I was just listening to Nina Simone's version of "Baltimore" last week. Reminds me...I gotta play that song soon on the show
Lizbot (host) 5:41:49 PM
Minter Magoo!
Andrew Gruen 5:42:09 PM
this set is a really good remedy for the gloominess outside
Lizbot (host) 5:42:26 PM
@Andrew - I prefer no lamb, and def no minty lamb. I prefer cardboard lamb (by Crash Course In Science)
Lizbot (host) 5:43:21 PM
@Andrew - thanks! glad to hear it! yeah, this day is GETTING to me. I had more energy yesterday than Ive had in weeks and was feeling great and now today's relentless fog gloom blanket is putting me in a trance
Rofflestomp 5:46:03 PM
@Readie, no snow on the ground at all in this Philly year so far. Good or bad, I dunno.
Readie 5:47:01 PM
Being from NEPA, I can't abide a winter with no snow, it just ain't natcherl!
Readie 5:48:26 PM
I really like this new Langendorf U jawn
Rofflestomp 5:48:39 PM
I lived in western WA state, and it would snow one day and be gone the next. Just the way of things.
Lizbot (host) 5:49:02 PM
@Readie - I would've been bummed about no show before having a kid, but man, I do NOT miss having to schlep the kid to school in early morning pre-plowed streets only to have the school call for last-minute early dismissal and other shenanigans! Although she DOES still like to sled with her friend, so I guess I shouldn't be a grouch about snow
Readie 5:49:16 PM
I hear you, Roff.
Readie 5:50:42 PM
@Lizbot- understand completely! School Admin is pretty sorry in general. I remember when we used to get snow days from work and then Zoom changed all that....
Rofflestomp 5:51:28 PM
Shenanigans! What a thing to balance!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:56 PM
@Rofflestomp - My favorite word.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:29 PM
@Readie - Plus kids hate zoom school...at least mine does!
Rofflestomp 5:53:41 PM
I hear ya Lizbot! Right there with ya!
Readie 5:55:51 PM
I'm sure Zoom school has muchas challenges, work meetings are crazy enough - with ppl messing up the muting and generally bloviating
Lizbot (host) 5:56:22 PM
@Rofflestomp - My uncle and cousins live in WA and I ventured up Mt. Rainer high enough to reach the snow even in summer when I was a teen. My uncle is in eastern WA - Spokane - and my cousins are in Bellevue and Seattle
Readie 5:56:47 PM
Shenanigans is an awesome word. Siri says it's of unknown origin, but I know for a fact it's from the Irish!
Dennisons 5:57:03 PM
Hi all! Ready for the comet.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:57:19 PM
Hey y’all!
Rofflestomp 5:57:24 PM
Also, home school? Yea, just let my kid choices. No,no! Insane. We learn to deal with no choices. Then we grow up.
Readie 5:57:50 PM
Hi Addie!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:11 PM
Hey Dennisons! I listened to the Angel pod today. Look at you, standing on your hind legs like some kinda Rory Calhoun!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:58:24 PM
I’m ready for the comet too! Bring it.
Readie 5:58:25 PM
@Dennisons - I didn't hear about a comet....do tell!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:36 PM
Hi Addie!
Lizbot (host) 5:58:46 PM
Then DO look up
Rofflestomp 5:58:47 PM
Hi Addie!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:58:57 PM
Hey Readie and Lizbot! And roffle!!

About to be!
Readie 6:00:02 PM
Snowing rn, Addie?
jimboo 6:00:10 PM
BOT! 🤖 Love the transition from L.U. to the Comet ☄️
Rofflestomp 6:00:22 PM
Mt. Rainer was this thing outside my window.
Lizbot (host) 6:00:30 PM
Hi jimboo!
Lizbot (host) 6:00:47 PM
@Roffle - wow! nice view!
Readie 6:02:00 PM
Oh yeah we're all doomed
Dennisons 6:02:08 PM
@Readie rumored comet… still I’m ready for it!
Readie 6:02:53 PM
LOL, Dennisons - it feels so right to welcome it!
Tyler B 6:03:27 PM
Folk Fest!!!!
Readie 6:03:28 PM
Hey Jimboooooo!
Readie 6:04:01 PM
Ah! Tyler B has been summoned!
Rofflestomp 6:04:03 PM
I lived in west Seattle. When the sun set the whole city was golden with that mountain in the lower right. Marvelous!
Readie 6:04:14 PM
Hey Tyler B!
Readie 6:06:15 PM
George is an EPIC dancer!
Rofflestomp 6:06:52 PM
George is dancing again? That's rather hip indeed!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:31 PM
Hi Tyler B!
Tyler B 6:07:53 PM
Hey readie! As you know, mention folk fest> I come running
Lizbot (host) 6:08:04 PM
@Readie - It's true! I was so glad when he was able to start dancing again after breaking his hip!
Readie 6:08:09 PM
@Roffle - good one!
Rofflestomp 6:08:21 PM
Folkin' around Tyler B
Lizbot (host) 6:08:26 PM
@Tyler B & Readie - I heard the Phila Folk Fest isn't happening this year!!
Readie 6:08:41 PM
I know, and it looks like he is back to fine form, as I saw in a recent post of yours!
Readie 6:09:15 PM
@Lizbot - whoa, really? Wow.
Lizbot (host) 6:09:15 PM
ahhh, typing malfunctions!
Readie 6:10:18 PM
I'm on the mailing list for the fest and I guess I missed that one...
Lizbot (host) 6:11:44 PM
@Tyler B - That's gorgeous! I was in Seattle and Portland in August 2017 and was near the path of totality while in Portland. Would've been clearer but there were forest fires in Canadian wafting smoke south
Lizbot (host) 6:12:24 PM
@Dennisons - I never saw that Angel, but I love Susan Tyrrell. I might have to watch it, spoilers aside
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:13:01 PM
Just flurries now, @readie. But maybe a foot tomorrow night!
jimboo 6:13:33 PM
Good Gravy...Curved Air gives any of this newfangled 2023 stuff a run for it's 💰
Lizbot (host) 6:14:20 PM
@Addie - Are you driving towards snow or snowbound at home? We got a TINY bit of snow finally here in Philly a couple days ago and it melted right away. Fine by me, MOSTLy because George still struggles with his leg injury every day. He's walking unassisted most of the time, but does have to rely on a cane here and there, and ice and snow are his enemy!
Lizbot (host) 6:14:34 PM
@jimboo - haha, yeah I love them!
Lizbot (host) 6:15:01 PM
@jimboo - also, I love the minimalist super-graphic album cover art on their second album
Rofflestomp 6:15:23 PM
I was lucky and on the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria in Canada during the summer solstice and they announced and stopped the ship to let us know. Priceless!
Readie 6:15:51 PM
@Addie- that sounds exciting! I was watching that new Eugene Levy show last night and it was all about Finland and sled dog traveling, so cool!
Dennisons 6:15:55 PM
@Readie it sounds like the fest is 200K in debt. They say they’re pausing for this year, but they’ve been in financial trouble for a while now.
Shut Up Wesley 6:16:27 PM
@Lizbot @Readie The Phila Folk Festival is indeed canceled for 2023. The Phila Folksong Society is in the red and is in the process of reorganizing and paying off its debts.
Lizbot (host) 6:16:33 PM
@Readie - New Eugene Levy show?? and my dog is a born sled dog!
Readie 6:16:54 PM
@Dennisons - wow that is sad...I remember hearing about the new venue they acquired a couple years ago...a church or something...
Lizbot (host) 6:16:54 PM
Hi Wesley! I saw the head of the PFS resigned.
Dennisons 6:17:26 PM
@Liz Angel was so much better than we expected. I’d seen the cover on the TLA video court shelf all the time but just assumed it was just some soft core porn trash flick.
Readie 6:17:42 PM
Hi Wesley- man, time for some new fiscal management for PFS
Lizbot (host) 6:18:02 PM
@Dennisons/Readie/Wes - yeah, I get the impression that their troubles began even before the pandemic. I don't know the full story with the PFS head's stepping down but happened to see the announcement the day it happened. Very sad there's no fest this year
Dennisons 6:18:18 PM
@liz thank you for those beeps!
Readie 6:18:36 PM
@Lizbot- TRUE! and Nuala is more beautiful than the sled dogs they had on the show- It's called the Reluctant Traveler, and it's hilarious!
Lizbot (host) 6:18:51 PM
@Dennisons - Yeah, I wasn't expected much, but sounds actually good. I remember the lead actress from JAWS 2! She was the shivering teen with the bowl cut on the boat, the cousin of one of the Amity Islander teens.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:06 PM
@Dennisons - my pleasure!

Dennisons 6:19:57 PM
@liz I haven’t seen Jaws 2 in forever. I just remember a leaping shark that was not in 3D.
Lizbot (host) 6:20:06 PM
@Readie - Oh wow, I have to check that out! I love Richard Ayoade's travel show too, Travel Man! Very dry humor.
Lizbot (host) 6:20:48 PM
@jimboo - GGG + another side of G. BYOG
jimboo 6:20:59 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:21:34 PM

Shut Up Wesley 6:21:51 PM
@Lizbot - see this article by Jonathan Takiff (remember him?) from last summer: https://www.phillymag.com/news/2022/06/11/philadelphia-folk-festival-60th/
Readie 6:21:56 PM
@Liz, I just heard about Ayoade - gotta see that one - Levy is on Apple TV.

Shut Up Wesley 6:22:27 PM
Oh no! Technical difficulties?
Lizbot (host) 6:22:55 PM
@Dennisons - JAWS 3...D was the 3D one. Jaws 2 is less unhinged and still has Roy Scheider and Lorraine and a lot of the original cast, including the mayor everyone jokes is STILL mayor even though he let a shark eat a buncha bathers a few years prior!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:07 PM
@Wesley - wait. on the station???
Lizbot (host) 6:23:18 PM
Is there doom funk right now?
Tyler B 6:23:38 PM
Yeah no fest this year. After Jason soured every act last year with his awful showboating about what a great job he's doing and how there's gonna be 60 more folk fests. He resigned and the fss has no money for fest
Lizbot (host) 6:23:43 PM
@jimboo - I hope it's a fainting goat cuz those are the best and most entertaining goats
Readie 6:23:45 PM
@Roffle, I was gonna say - I was gettin iron butterfly vibes....
Rob from Maryland 6:23:55 PM
@Readie, at least your snow stuck. The last snow we had (on a Saturday morning) didn't stick at all.
Lizbot (host) 6:24:25 PM
@Tyler B - boo. they PFS sorely needs new management and fundraising I guess
Dennisons 6:24:33 PM
This song goes places!
Rofflestomp 6:24:34 PM
You see it too Readie! LOL all good!
Readie 6:24:46 PM
@Rob, yeah it was gone in a flash...I just happened to atch a glimpse & got stoked!
Lizbot (host) 6:24:58 PM
@jimboo - Crown that goat in the style of the Irish Puck Fair!
Rob from Maryland 6:25:34 PM
@Lizbot, early spring is early. It was 80+ last Thursday when I was out birding in the afternoon. A couple of days later I was able to see a flock of 67 Tundra (Whistling) Swans on the water. Then they took off.
Readie 6:25:36 PM
@Tyler B- I kinda remember someone gabbing on and on about how great everything was...

Good news is: fundraising was off to a tremendous start. After a zoom meeting held by the chairpersons a huge rush of donations and member renewals came in
Lizbot (host) 6:25:39 PM
@jimboo - We went to the puck fair years ago and every year a poet is dubbed the official poet of the fair. Only in Ireland.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:25:47 PM
Ooo, thanks for the tip on the Eugene Levy show, Readie!
Rob from Maryland 6:26:07 PM
@Lizbot, I'd love to hear that (or any) version of "Baltimore"
Readie 6:26:20 PM
@Wesley - I remember Takiff, what was his show? I forget that
Rob from Maryland 6:27:12 PM
@Readie, it's always good when snow sticks, as long as it's a small amount of snow
Tyler B 6:27:12 PM
I was in a grouchy mood that year so maybe I'm just under a cloud. But yeah the guy coming up between every act bragging about his wonderful work was a little annoying. Top it off with the Disney concert that took the stage Saturday night.. gotta say it was one of my least favorite fests ever
Lizbot (host) 6:27:37 PM
@Rob - 80+?!!! wow. It hasn't reached higher than the mid-60s here yet, but still crazy. Cherry blossoms blooming early, too early for the mid-April Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Shofuso House & Garden in Fairmount Park that I look forward to every year. This is the first year they're bringing back the sakura fest since 2019
Readie 6:27:43 PM
@Addie- yeah, you're welcome! I was missing snow so much during the first show!
Rofflestomp 6:28:47 PM
Addie reminds me that snow is a thing! :)
Shut Up Wesley 6:28:59 PM
@Lizbot Jonathan Takiff was a DJ on WMMR many years ago. He’s been a writer for many years (he gives a bit of his history in the article I linked to)
Rofflestomp 6:29:16 PM
And snakes
Lizbot (host) 6:29:19 PM
@Tyler B - Oof. Sounds rough. The guy who brags he's gonna run things forever and pats himself on the back excessively always seems to be the guy who hightails outta there at the first sign of trouble
Readie 6:29:33 PM
@Tyler B- naw, it wasn't you, I remember that guy too and how annoyed I was! I kept murmuring about it and my companion was getting annoyed...at ME, lol
Shut Up Wesley 6:29:47 PM
BANJO ON WPRB!! 🪕 My day is complete!
Tyler B 6:30:28 PM
@Readie yo for real! I complained to my gf and I was the jerk!!
Lizbot (host) 6:30:49 PM
@Wesley - haha, I thought you might like that. Ron Geesin is a funny guy
Lizbot (host) 6:31:10 PM
Readie and Tyler B VINDICATED
Rob from Maryland 6:31:23 PM
@Lizbot, last Thursday there was a frontal boundary (a warm front) between DC and Phlly, so it never got anywhere near 80 up your way that day. (I was looking at a real-time temperature map throughout the day.) Our cherries and magnolias are blooming too. I'm glad that your cherry blossom festival is comiung back!
Shut Up Wesley 6:32:21 PM
@Lizbot - Thanks! That was some fantastic tenor or plectrum banjo playing! Very Roy Smeck.
Teresa Peacock 6:33:58 PM
Welcome back to the airwaves, Lizbot!!! Hello feller DoublePlusBetters all! Having an epic, hassled-filled, lysergic, bureaucratic hellscape of a day. Then I heard your voice on PRB and finally got a much-needed respite from mon enfer!
Readie 6:34:02 PM
@Tyler B- YEAH! go figure! I'm no longer with that guy anyway, ao everything worked out all around, eh? LOLOLOL!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:17 PM
@Rob - I am glad it's coming back too but wonder if there will be any cherry blossoms left by mid-April! Fairmount Park looks beautiful when the trees are in bloom. There will still be crafts and lots of Japanese bands, so still worth my while. I love that fair!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:22 PM
Hi Teresa!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:33 PM
@Wesley - I gotta check out more Roy Smeck!
Teresa Peacock 6:35:04 PM
Are you feeling better? How's your throat?
Readie 6:35:34 PM
Hi Teresa! Nice to see you!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:35:35 PM
Woah, Teresa, sounds like my day! Solidarity.
Lizbot (host) 6:35:49 PM
@Teresa - I'm happy to provide some relief! Sorry your day has been a drag!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:36:27 PM
@roffle goals achieved! I love being associated with snow and snakes!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:39 PM
@Teresa - A lot better, thank you. It was pretty rough for a while there, scary how fast it spread. The hospital was so overcrowded but the doctors there actually diagnosed the issue correctly, so it was worth the wait. I am still taking my RX but started feeling way way better days ago
Teresa Peacock 6:37:49 PM
Aw thanks! <3 Loving the playlist today! I want to hear ever so muchly much more Daniela Casa now!
Lizbot (host) 6:38:10 PM
@Addie - and Snow Snakes! That'd be an easy animal to craft outta snow!
Teresa Peacock 6:38:54 PM
No wonder you're experiencing the brain-fogs! Those meds always really wipe me out.
Readie 6:40:12 PM
@Wesley- yes, I remember especially Ed Sciaky (RIP) and Michael Tearson...great radio!
Lizbot (host) 6:40:27 PM
I want to see identical rows of synchronized wind-up robots dance to this, or maybe a Rube Goldberg machine
Teresa Peacock 6:40:31 PM
@Addie -- Snow Snakes! What a great idea! I might have to get creative with the 8-12 inches(!) of snow we're supposed to get overnight Friday-Sat.
DJPUP 6:42:29 PM
This song!
Lizbot (host) 6:42:37 PM
@Teresa - She was awesome. She died at only 42 and most of her music is from her 20s to her mid-30s
Lizbot (host) 6:42:43 PM
Hi DJPUP!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:32 PM
@Teresa - That's enough for many a snow snake!
Readie 6:43:45 PM
Greetings, DJPUP!
DJPUP 6:43:50 PM
Howdy howdy! Listening in the kitchen and boy this song made me hop in the chat faaast haha greetings everyone!
Rofflestomp 6:45:29 PM
Hey PUP! Yea "these songs". Quite nice.
Lizbot (host) 6:45:55 PM
@DJPUP - Well it's fitting since pup and wolf are both canines. I never took French, but the band's name has "white wolf" in it I believe!
DJPUP 6:46:22 PM
A valid correction Roffle!
Rofflestomp 6:46:55 PM
My mind speaks so PUP.
DJPUP 6:47:11 PM
Oooh the more you know! Canine adjacent trivia for the win
Lizbot (host) 6:47:24 PM
Etron Fou Leloublan is the brainchild of oddball actor and saxophonist named Chris Chanet. I love their music.
DJPUP 6:48:23 PM
Yeah definitely digging more into that later, thanks for sharing it! Gotta go back to cooking, but will continue listening in. Have a good one folks
Readie 6:49:05 PM
bon appetit, Pup
Readie 6:50:28 PM
so cool to see the dogs at work!
Rofflestomp 6:51:02 PM
So do that well deserved wait for a marinade. mY HAPPY SITUATION pup.
Lizbot (host) 6:56:11 PM
@DJPUP - WPRB is my cooking soundtrack as well
Mary Jones 6:56:23 PM
Hello Lizbot! I had to mute the show because Dennis claims he doesn't know Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse", which I had to demonstrate is false. Everyone who watches cartoons knows Powerhouse even if they don't know what it's called.
Lizbot (host) 6:56:30 PM
@Readie - haha, I blanked on the name of the travel show while on mic!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:42 PM
Hi Mary!
Lizbot (host) 6:57:17 PM
@Mary - WOT?!!! Has he never seen Looney Toons?! the baby climbing on the construction girders!
Rofflestomp 6:57:19 PM
"Probably fall to my death" Lizbot?!? May I use that for a song title?
Readie 6:57:44 PM
@Lizbot- oh okay- it's "The Reluctant Traveler" I was laughing out loud!
Mary Jones 6:58:05 PM
@Lizbot exactly! I queued it up, and he said it was a Mummers song. Baffling.
Lizbot (host) 6:58:29 PM
@Mary - Powerhouse was so ahead of its time. So sneaky and complex for trad jazz. I spent years looking for a good piano sheet music transcription of it and finally found a great one but it's so tricky to play! I can't play the whole thing
Readie 6:58:40 PM
Hi Mary!
Mary Jones 6:59:06 PM
Yeah, I think because it's so familiar, we don't realize what a complex composition it is.
Mary Jones 6:59:13 PM
Hello Readie!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:27 PM
@Mary - Mummers song?! Wha? Tell him he's confused!
Mary Jones 7:00:24 PM
@Lizbot I hope he's pulling my leg (again).
Lizbot (host) 7:02:46 PM
@Mary - The first (and most instantly recognizable) part is the simplest, but it's really in three movements and it gets gnarly! I love it. Oil Gusher is another great one
Lizbot (host) 7:03:43 PM
@Mary - I have a lifelong philosophy George has heard me spout off often that everything can be sorted into two categories: Powerhouse, or a dog dragging its butt across the ground. That is the binary.
Lizbot (host) 7:04:25 PM
@Readie - ah, The Reluctant Traveler! I have to write it down before I forget, or scroll back through the chat later!
Mary Jones 7:04:39 PM
@Lizbot Oil Gusher is great! Though as a sometimes-sax player, much out of practice, I can't imagine what those players are going through.
Mary Jones 7:05:25 PM
@Lizbot ahahah, is this one of those Looney Tunes dogs?
Lizbot (host) 7:06:55 PM
@Mary - haha, yeah, I played clarinet in school (purely chose it because I saw The Benny Goodman Story on PBS at an impressionable age) and I can't even begin with some of Ray Scott's compositions! He was a bandleader, composer and electronic instrument inventor, and he made two very different styles of music and broke boundaries with both
Lizbot (host) 7:07:41 PM
@Mary - Uncovered my sad neglected clarinet while organizing recently and it sorely needs new pads
Joe Moore 7:10:12 PM
Hey we always are making/eating dinner when the shows rolling so I miss out on the chat, but I wanted to say Tom Chapin was my FIRST ever concert. Mom was a big Harry Chapin head and took us to see Tom a lot - he seemed to play around North Jerz pretty frequently as a kid. So cool to hear you talking about Whale Song.
Joe Moore 7:10:22 PM
Killer show, so glad you're back and feeling better!
Rofflestomp 7:10:42 PM
Moist reeds are a thing too. I don't do winds much but own a flute.
Lizbot (host) 7:11:04 PM
Hi Joe!
Lizbot (host) 7:12:56 PM
@Joe - Oh wow! I saw Tom Chapin at the Annenberg on Penn's campus with my mom and brother as a kid. My parents were big fans of Harry and I loved 30,000 Pounds of Bananas as a little kid
Lizbot (host) 7:13:07 PM
Thanks, Joe!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:54 PM
@Rofflestomp - At least it's easy to replace reeds. I was always running through reeds quickly. But the actual pads are another story
Readie 7:14:44 PM
...and of course, you know, @Lizbot that 30k lbs of bananas happened in my home town!
Joe Moore 7:14:54 PM
"Harry... it stinks." haha
Joe Moore 7:15:18 PM
My dad lives up that way Readie, do you know which hill it was on???
Lizbot (host) 7:15:38 PM
@Rofflestomp - Woodwinds took on a whole other unfamiliar and somewhat uncomfortable association early in the pandemic when spit flying around wasn't the best thing!
Joe Moore 7:15:57 PM
(Look at me asking perfectly googlable questions in the prb chat. ha)
Lizbot (host) 7:16:02 PM
@Readie - the No. 1 thing I associate with Scranton, PA!
Readie 7:17:42 PM
Haha! I could go into a marketing rant for Scranton, but I'll not...
Lizbot (host) 7:17:52 PM
@Joe - haha, harry and tom seemed like great collaborators
Lizbot (host) 7:18:20 PM
@Joe - my mom drove a little Volkswagon Beetle for most of her life and it always freaked me out that Harry got crushed in a bug by a tractor trailer
Lizbot (host) 7:20:59 PM
@Readie - George played an odd show in Scranton many years ago with a band named Fifty Foot Furbie and the police showed up and broke up the show because of some rowdy teens out front! there was also a giant illuminated Winnie the Pooh nearby for some unknown reason
Readie 7:24:42 PM
@Lizbot - I'm pretty sure I had landed in the Philly area by then! Sounds like a wild party nigh- "there ain't no party like a Scranton party cuz a Scranton party don't stop" (The Office)
Lizbot (host) 7:26:02 PM
@Readie - Assuming you slid into Philly on a wave of banana peels
Lizbot (host) 7:28:07 PM
@Readie - George & his bandmate were the oldest ones there and it was a warehouse near a high school so I think word spread of this show spread to these kids and someone managed to get them booze. They were spiking these stuffed animals the other band brought all over the room!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:42 PM
a rowdy night in Scranton!
Rofflestomp 7:33:23 PM
There is a Benny Goodman exit or road on the Canada 1 Highway across southern Canada. True story. I saw it!
Readie 7:34:23 PM
@Lizbot- lol- but seriously that hill is a real killer...and I wonder which high school that was - there was no warehouse near my high school
Readie 7:35:49 PM
All my rowdy shenanigans happened in Bucks & Montgomery counties!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:26 PM
@Rofflestomp - oh wow! I'd be psyched to come across that on a road trip!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:43 PM
@Roffle - Sparkle Moore had the best stage name!
Rofflestomp 7:36:50 PM
This last song sounds alot like Charlotte Gainsbourg
Lizbot (host) 7:37:38 PM
@Readie - dunno, but George would possibly remember. this was at least 15 years ago.
Lizbot (host) 7:37:57 PM
@Readie - I think there was nothing else going on in Scranton that night!
Rofflestomp 7:37:58 PM
Shenanigans!
Lizbot (host) 7:38:14 PM
Shenanigans indeed! And a 50 Ft Furby
Readie 7:39:42 PM
@Lizbot, on Saturdays, the locals used to say - "Dead town, no games!" on the nights the high schools weren't playing b-ball or football....if George can remember, let me know - I could ask my brother... he would have some intell...
Dennisons 7:42:39 PM
I’m so used to listening to “I Can Hear The Heart …” all the way through it’s always surprising to hear one of the songs out on its own in the wild.
Lizbot (host) 7:42:41 PM
@Readie - George is currently sitting in a middle school production of Into the Woods, but I'll ask him when I can! I might be misremembering what kind of building it was. I did not go on tour with him, but he told this tour story with great relish because there were several absurd elements.
Lizbot (host) 7:43:26 PM
@Dennisons - I Can hear the heart beating as one and And then nothing turned itself inside out are my YLT favorites
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:44:10 PM
@ Lizbot (host) LOVED the snarly vocal FX on "Killer"! Love that real rockabilly!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:35 PM
@Dennisons - This song has inklings of ICHTHBAO era YLT. Most recent yo la tengo show I saw was at The Dell East last summer with Japanese Breakfast and all the kids were there for JP and didn't have a clue who YLT were!
Mary Jones 7:45:23 PM
@Lizbot we were at that show! I felt so old!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:26 PM
@Richard from Rocky Hill - haha, yeah Sparkle Moore ruled AND she wore men's nudie suits and had a bit of a d.a. haircut
Dennisons 7:45:43 PM
@ Liz so good! We were there too, it was a good vibe at that show!
Lizbot (host) 7:46:18 PM
@Mary - for real! Great show, I loved both bands, but odd pairing! I feel in the overlap fanbase between both bands, but I feel like there wasn't much overlap in that Venn diagram!
Lizbot (host) 7:46:56 PM
@Dennisons / Mary - I'm already looking at tickets these past few weeks for upcoming summer shows. I love a outdoor shows!
Mary Jones 7:48:04 PM
I need to see what the Mann is offering this year.
Dennisons 7:48:28 PM
@liz are there any good ones coming up?
Rofflestomp 7:48:35 PM
Gotta go, but thank you loveliness's! I appreciate it very much. See you. Lizbot! Thanks! Love you. George, I am in the camp that you will step up! :)
Lizbot (host) 7:49:08 PM
@Dennisons / Mary - I just got tickets yesterday for Alvvays with Alex G at The Dell August 26th. It's another benefit show, this time booked by Sean Agnew. I am not a huge Alvvays fan, but they're a nice breezy summer indie pop band for as summer night in Fairmount Park!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:21 PM
Thanks for hanging, Roffle!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:58 PM
@Dennisons / Mary - I check The Mann schedule often and they add some shows waaaaay in advance and others kinda creep up on me, but so far there's more at the dell I'm interested in
Mary Jones 7:50:12 PM
@Lizbot Ooo, I do enjoy Alvvays--as you say, breezy. I'm not sure if that overlaps when we're down the shore, I'll have to look into that.
Lizbot (host) 7:51:27 PM
@Dennisons / Mary - This summer at the Mann so far it's just beck, which isn't til September and I don't care about Beck, Roots picnic, cake...not much. Don't care about any of these. Hoping they'll add more
Lizbot (host) 7:51:47 PM
@Mary - yeah Alvvays should be great!
Readie 7:56:38 PM
Thanks, Lizbot, glad you're feelin' better!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:45 PM
Thanks Readie! Have a great show tomorrow!
Readie 7:58:23 PM
Thank you!
Mary Jones 7:59:05 PM
As always, a great show! And made a nice come-down from my run this afternoon after work.
Lizbot (host) 7:59:55 PM
Thanks Mary! I'm super-psyched for Swimming to Cambodia! I love that movie!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:29 PM
@MAry - Bonus - Laurie Anderson did the music for it...hope it's okay to tell you that!
Mary Jones 8:01:11 PM
@Lizbot I'm OK with that--I also found out it was directed by Jonathan Demme, so I'm excited!
Rofflestomp 8:01:50 PM
Laurie Anderson is the right side of nutzo!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:53 PM
@Mary - Yes! It's so good! I've seen it a dozen times at least! My parents love Spalding too. I was at a Laurie Anderson show just after he died and she brought it up
Lizbot (host) 8:02:06 PM
@Rofflestomp - I love her so much.
Rob from Maryland 8:02:06 PM
Thanks Lizbot! I hope you continue to feel better, and you get warm weather
Lizbot (host) 8:02:09 PM
Thanks Rob!
Lizbot (host) 8:02:34 PM
@Mary - Laurie's soundtrack is very ambient and nonintrusive for Swimming to Cambodia
Lizbot (host) 8:02:58 PM
@Mary - Monster In a Box is great too, but StC is my favorite. Gray's Anatomy was okay
Rofflestomp 8:04:32 PM
Thanks friend
Lizbot (host) 8:04:43 PM
Thanks Roffle!
