Hi DTO!
Christine 𓅓 5:03:54 PM
I love the techno-babble on this intro. 🤖
Lizbot (host) 5:04:09 PM
Man, the station didn't switch over to my broadcast until 5:03! Was worried for a minute there!
Christine 𓅓 5:04:12 PM

Enjoying the extra minute of daylight today
Lizbot (host) 5:05:15 PM
I love this song. Unsurprisingly, Jethro Tull has more than one wintery yule song
Christine 𓅓 5:05:32 PM
Hi Lizbot, ǝɹnɔsqO ǝɥʇ ǝʌɐᗡ, & all
Lizbot (host) 5:05:51 PM
Hi Carlos! How did you spend your precious minute of light? I thought about summer
Carlos Ramone. 5:07:09 PM
My extra minute was used in watching Argentina beat France for the 5th time!!🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Christine 𓅓 5:07:12 PM

@Carlos - Ah! Excitement-packed minute! I am so far enjoying the long nights, but talk to me in late January or early February, when I tend to start getting impatient with winter
Lizbot (host) 5:09:07 PM
@Christine - Nice! Gotta love Ian Anderson's prancing
Christine 𓅓 5:09:44 PM
They are miming the song, but still very entertaining.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 5:10:09 PM
Is this a solstice song?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 5:11:54 PM
Besides Tull, I am not aware of any other solstice songs.
Lizbot (host) 5:13:34 PM
@DTO - Not gonna be super-literal. Although many of the songs today do mention the winter solstice, many do not but convey a wintery/cold/long night feeling, at least in my mind!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:14:19 PM
Happy Solstice! Good evening all!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:36 PM
I was at Longwood Gardens in Chester County yesterday and visited their organ, which made me think of this piece, which reminds me of shimmery bright winter sunlight on snow.
Lizbot (host) 5:15:21 PM
Hello Addie! Happy [one-day-belated] Solstice! I spent the solstice walking in a very large series of gardens. How about you?
Christine 𓅓 5:17:13 PM
Hi Addie🐍🐍!

Hi Lizbot! Hi all!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 5:22:42 PM
Sounds like she might have studied with Steve Reich.
Rofflestomp 5:23:08 PM
This sounds like somebody's smoking the pot.
Lee Chandler 5:24:39 PM
I feel like Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, etc had to have some winter solstice songs.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:25:29 PM
@lizbot had a super solstice dinner by candlelight! We didn’t burn a Yule log this year as last year Z got weirdly attached to the log and was sad when it burned.
Lee Chandler 5:25:32 PM
Of course, may not fit anyway..
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:26:02 PM
Hi Christine!! The snakes got crocheted cozies for solstice!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:10 PM
Hello Ossy! haha, a bit!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:19 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!
Christine 𓅓 5:26:19 PM
Really enjoyed that tremendous Anna Von Hausswolff piece.
Lizbot (host) 5:26:37 PM
@DTO - A bit of entrancing repetition, yes
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 5:26:48 PM
@ Lee, yeah , I wouldn’t be surprised. But I am not aware of any.
Lizbot (host) 5:27:07 PM
@Lee Chandler - Likely! I will see...
Christine 𓅓 5:27:18 PM
@Addie that sounds like the coziest gift for the sneks.
Ossy Hyouka 5:27:50 PM
I think I heard that song last year, it's crystal magical
Lizbot (host) 5:28:02 PM
@Addie - Aw! I saw the snake cozy photos and they are the Best Thing!
Lizbot (host) 5:29:18 PM
@DTO / @Lee - It seems like their purview, but will have to dig around to see if any mention solstice or thematically work in some way!
Lizbot (host) 5:31:45 PM
This is the radio debut of this Settled Arrows song
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:32:48 PM

Christine 𓅓 5:33:16 PM
That David Byrne composition suits today's mood: mournful, introspective and a little discordant.
Christine 𓅓 5:34:32 PM
Aww! 💚💙🐍@Addie
Lizbot (host) 5:34:51 PM
@Christine - I love a lot of his soundtrack work. Yeah, today's rainy overcast day calls for something like that.
Lizbot (host) 5:35:26 PM
@Addie - I love that robin's egg (snake egg?) blue color against the cream-colored snek skin!
Rofflestomp 5:35:57 PM
I was on the ferry from Victoria, Vancouver island to Vancouver on the mainland during the moment of the Summer stolstice and it went form Zero to Hippie in a heartbeat. Very cool.
Lee Chandler 5:36:29 PM
Settled Arrows sounding pretty good!
Lizbot (host) 5:36:39 PM
The piano on that Settled Arrows song is so pretty. That's a Philly band whose members have cool solo projects as well
Christine 𓅓 5:37:12 PM
Thanks for putting them on my radar.
Lizbot (host) 5:37:16 PM
@Lee Chandler - That song was just recorded and made available on Wednesday! WPRB debut!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:11 PM
I know this song mentions April, but I don't care because it captures a chilly morning and I wanted to play Nick and his mom back to back!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:14 PM
@Rofflestomp - Beautiful! I love that area. My uncle and cousins lives in the Pacific NW. Last time I was up that way was during the solar eclipse of August 2017, near the path of totality
Lee Chandler 5:41:33 PM
That is some farm to table recording!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:37 PM
@Christine - No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. They are on bandcamp
Christine 𓅓 5:41:40 PM
Baby Dee 💜
Lizbot (host) 5:41:50 PM
@Lee Chandler - ha!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:44 PM
@Rofflestomp - When I was a kid, we used to take those Washington ferries and we missed the last one outta Orcas Island and had to crash in a weird hippie commune that rented out beds because the only motel was booked solid. I got the worst flu of my teen years in that place, sleeping across from a woman who sounded like she was coughing up a lung. I ended up sleeping the second half of the night in the rental car, but the germs had already invaded me!
Rofflestomp 5:45:05 PM
Lizbot, Sweet, I have yet to catch a totality. Bucket list item. I was in Vancouver for a Lunar eclipse with a blood red moon and of course the radio played Black-hole Sun. LOL It was just too good. I the Pacific NW.
Rofflestomp 5:46:25 PM
Oh no! the hippie hostel!
Lizbot (host) 5:47:03 PM
@Rofflestomp - Yeah, that place had a "hot tub" that was just a mud pit
Lizbot (host) 5:48:52 PM
@Rofflestomp - The main thing I remember from that early 90s Pacific NW trip when I was in high school was being SO SICK on the ferries and lying down on their benches. Before I got sick, I was psyched to spot some orcas. I've heard that area's orca population has sadly dwindled drastically in recent years
Lee Chandler 5:49:44 PM
Mud pit doesn’t sound too bad, I mean, considering other mediums it could have been.
Rofflestomp 5:49:56 PM
OMG! lol Big nope and a pass for sure. If you ever get out to the islands again check out the docks. There are shrimp swimming around the piers!
Rofflestomp 5:50:59 PM
A friend of mine live out there and once the ferry shuts down for the night your just stuck.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:44 PM
@Rofflestomp - For the summer 2017 eclipse we ended up in Portland, so NEAR the path of totality, but not completely in it. The roads were absolutely overrun with people driving south from Portland to be in the path of totality and hotels were full, gas stations in small towns ran out of gas, a buncha people got stranded! I remember being on the waterfront and then SECOND it ended, all those paper eclipse glasses were littering the ground everywhereQ
Lizbot (host) 5:54:21 PM
@Lee Chandler - ha, true! It was not a very inviting mud pit, though!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:54:39 PM
I’m psyched because I’m supposed to be in the totality path next time around!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:56 PM
@Rofflestomp / Lee - During that same 90s Washington state/Oregon/Victoria/Vancouver trip we took a ferry to San Juan Island to learn about the most pointless war ever: The Pig War, and even visited the pig war fort. This is what happens on family vacations when your parents are both teachers!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:24 PM
I love Bainbridge Island's art museum, though. Hands down, best WA ferry island!
Christine 𓅓 5:56:25 PM
Traveling by ferryboat to an island where you have to be back at the dock by a certain time or else be stuck on the island all night adds a certain excitement. At least we thought so when we hiked around Isle au Haut that time (part of Acadia National Park only accessible by boat).
Rofflestomp 5:58:19 PM
That is way sad about the glasses issue. I stayed on Drain Bramage Island when I fist moved up there. I love that ferry too!

Christine 𓅓 6:05:04 PM
Lol, Number 6
Rofflestomp 6:05:08 PM
Lizbot, Drain Bramage is the response to people who call the island Brain Damage Island, and there are a lot of them in Seattle proper. The view at sunset on the ferry is top shelf, and many musical ensemble folk will just play for a few trips. The best.

@Carlos - haha, for years Jon kept talking about how he ALMOST had enough Ramones/Ramones-inspired holiday songs to warrant 2 sets, and now we can bask in the glory of double Ramones!
Lizbot (host) 6:07:27 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:08:47 PM
@Christine - snaildartha tends to coincide with my drive to my parents' house. I hope that's the case again this marathon!
Christine 𓅓 6:09:15 PM
I hope so @Lizbot
Christine 𓅓 6:11:19 PM
@Lee, I recommend visiting Isle au Haut to anyone who is in the area. Half of the island is Acadia National Park, and the other half is privately owned, but there is no hotel, services, etc.
Rofflestomp 6:12:09 PM
Jon put a link up to the Little Drummer Boy on the home page and I clicked on it and had to back out. It's just so worth the wait.
Lizbot (host) 6:12:52 PM
@Christine - I love Acadia. My parents adore Maine and my uncle mike used to run a community theater in Belfast, ME, so we'd drive up there and stay with him and then go hiking. The most stranded we ever got in Maine was way up near Baxter State Park, out on a peninsula only accessible by canoe, after a lengthy hike, which was preceded by a drive up a logging road. We stayed at my dad's friend's electricity-less, plumbing-less cabin. When we tried to leave, we found our car smashed by vandals
Lizbot (host) 6:13:06 PM
This part of the song feels ceremonial
Number 6 6:13:11 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:14:04 PM
There is always such a crazy line for the last ferry of the night on Bainbridge Island, but we've always made it on even though it felt like we wouldn't!
Number 6 6:14:12 PM
It could be called Ewtube.
Carlos Ramone. 6:14:21 PM
@#6. I used to hide the mojo Nixon Christmas cd from my kids when they were young
Lizbot (host) 6:14:29 PM
@Addie - Awesome! Wait...when is the next solar eclipse?
Lizbot (host) 6:15:21 PM
@Rofflestomp - I met a girl on the Bainbridge ferry who lives on the island but goes to high school in Seattle and has a crazy long commute from bus to ferry to another bus every morning
Rofflestomp 6:15:44 PM
@Lizbot, yea, it used to be 2am, so no last call at the blues bar. :(
Number 6 6:15:45 PM
Dark Side of the Christmas Tree is another old x rated fav.
Lizbot (host) 6:16:17 PM
@Number 6 / Carlos Ramone - haha, he'd have to make some edits if he played those!
Number 6 6:17:05 PM
Edits take all the fun out of them.:)
Christine 𓅓 6:17:44 PM
@Lizbot, that Maine adventure has got some Stephen King-type darkness at the end. Unsettling!
Lizbot (host) 6:18:43 PM
@Number 6 - I always lol when I hear "Santa Je T'aime" from Fred Schneider's ridiculous Christmas album, "Destination... Christmas!" It's not explicitly dirty, just implied, and the Santa voice kills me
Lizbot (host) 6:19:21 PM
@Christine - Not to mention the crunchy burned up bats the fell out of the cabin's oil lamp when we first got there!
Lizbot (host) 6:20:01 PM
@Christine - and the eerie sounds of the loons on Lake Pemadumcook
Lee Chandler 6:20:57 PM
Isle au Haut - added.
Rofflestomp 6:21:04 PM
@Number 6, Could their be a dark side of the stream though?🤔 Don't know how that all works with the FCC. lol
Number 6 6:22:20 PM
LOL!
Christine 𓅓 6:23:08 PM
😱 @Lizbot
Lizbot (host) 6:24:20 PM
@Rofflestomp - There's no dark side of the stream, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.
Lizbot (host) 6:24:50 PM
@Christine - I learned then the origin of the term "loony"!
Rofflestomp 6:26:14 PM
@Lizbot, Wow, I am surprized she did not go to High School on the Island. It's got more money per capita only behind Mercer Island, where Bill Gates lives, so it's got excellent resources. :)

Lizbot, I concur with the darkness.
Rofflestomp 6:29:51 PM
I remember having this song in my head the whole time I was reading Alister Crowley's book Moonchild.
Lizbot (host) 6:31:45 PM
@Rofflestomp - Oh, I know Bainbridge is quite fancy, but she attended some magnet (or whatever they call it) magnet school there. She was chatty!
Lizbot (host) 6:33:49 PM
@Rofflestomp - "There" as in Seattle
Elspeth Abel Slater 6:33:51 PM
I’m loving the show tonight, and this is one of my favorite Bowie songs, thank you for playing it.
Lizbot (host) 6:34:16 PM
Hey Pethie! Thanks! yeah, I love Sunday. It's a perfect song
Rofflestomp 6:37:16 PM
@Lizbot. Yes, commuting over to Seattle vs attending on the island.
Rofflestomp 6:38:05 PM
Good for her then though.
Lee Chandler 6:38:33 PM
After three dentist appts within three months, a combined total of nine hours & 25+ shots of anesthetic, a pesky, elusive wayward nerve was finally numb long enough to fill a tiny little cavity. That’s the magic of the Winter solstice.
Ossy Hyouka 6:39:25 PM
At least Freeform playing Frosty the Snowman tonight
Lizbot (host) 6:39:34 PM
@Lee Chandler - Ah, mazel! I have been in Dental Hell and can relate all too well. I am that person that usually needs more local anesthesia than most!
Ossy Hyouka 6:39:39 PM
Liz
Lizbot (host) 6:40:12 PM
@Ossy - I am picturing Frosty the Snowman free-forming. Maybe he's forming himself out of snow, and then improvising some music
Ossy Hyouka 6:41:15 PM
Yeah, with that Karen girl by his side!
Rofflestomp 6:41:55 PM

@DSM - I liked Up a Tree Again best from that debut album, but "Dave the Moon Man" would've worked with the Space Boy Dream song, as far as Stuart David moon-themed songs!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:54 PM
@Addie - Yeah, moody teen Liz listened to quite a bit of Nick Drake!
Lizbot (host) 6:50:36 PM
@Ossy - haha, I have to dig up that Chipmunks at 16 Speed project again for a different show. I love that thing!
Lizbot (host) 6:50:52 PM
@Rofflestomp - Glad you're enjoying it!
Rofflestomp 6:51:57 PM
Definitly nailed the Solstice with cool vibes. :)
DSM 6:53:17 PM
That's rad Lizbot. I played up a tree album so much when it came out.
DSM 6:53:36 PM
Catherine Ribeiro def has some solsitce vibes

Christine 𓅓 6:58:46 PM
Flawless solstice mood tonight 🌠
Lizbot (host) 6:58:59 PM
@DSM - Same! I even played those Gentle Waves Isobel Campbell albums a bunch when they came out. I was such a Belle & Sebastian obsessive
Lizbot (host) 6:59:09 PM
@Ossy - oh yeah!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:29 PM
@DSM / Christine - thanks!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:34 PM

TAndy 7:02:20 PM
That was a nice song to wake up to
Lizbot (host) 7:03:32 PM
@TAndy - Happy to help you usher in the night/waking hours!
Lizbot (host) 7:16:23 PM
I love the changes in that Dory Previn song and that crazy crescendo ending!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:13 PM
Someone uploaded the first ever Magnetic Fields concert (at a small venue in Cambridge), incorrectly billed as Magnetophone by local papers, and Stephin Merrit was doing lead vocals on all the early first two album songs instead of Susan Anway (as heard on that Lovers from the Moon song)
Christine 𓅓 7:25:07 PM
I like the sound of Sasha V. Never heard them before!
Lizbot (host) 7:26:42 PM
@Christine - Glad you enjoyed Sasha V! Great performer who has been in various bands/projects in Philly for 2+ decades
George Korein 7:27:12 PM
Glad to hear Sasha and Thousandth Cave!

Lizbot (host) 7:37:01 PM
@Addie - What can I tell you? The breakdown of Winter Solstice songs is 80% new age, 15% metal and 5% prog!
richard lyons 7:37:07 PM
great show, Lizbot! Hi all :). Love the cozy, Addie!

Thanks, Richard Lyons!
Ossy Hyouka 7:38:41 PM
Wow, didn't realize Miriam played, few minutes ago
Lizbot (host) 7:40:02 PM
Listening to bouree makes me realize its tune is not dissimilar to Van Morrison's Moondance
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:40:16 PM
Oh glad you scrolled back and found it, Richard Lyons!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:41:06 PM
I’m certainly not complaining about flute jams, @lizbot! I adore them.
Lizbot (host) 7:41:56 PM
snort!
Lizbot (host) 7:42:13 PM
ding!
Shut Up Wesley 7:42:58 PM
Ian Anderson covering his own Boureé from JT’s Stand Up! More snorting and whistling…
Lizbot (host) 7:43:47 PM
Hi Wesley!

@Wesley - Snortin' & Whistlin': The Ian Anderson Story
Lizbot (host) 7:44:31 PM
@Wesley- but let's not forget prancing like a wild Puck
Christine 𓅓 7:45:49 PM
When Jethro Tull won a Grammy in 1988 in the "Hard Rock/Metal" category for Crest of a Knave, they jokingly responded by putting an ad in Billboard magazine that said, "the flute is a heavy, metal instrument."
Lizbot (host) 7:46:28 PM
@Christine - Ha! It's all relative!
Ossy Hyouka 7:46:36 PM
Liz - You heard or seen the Beauty and Beast ABC play, last Thursday, of it's 30th anniversary?
Lizbot (host) 7:47:05 PM
@Ossy - I have not! Might check it out soon!
Ossy Hyouka 7:48:19 PM
It's now on Disney plus and Hulu, for people that haven't seen it, and it's pretty good!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:15 PM
@Ossy - Adding it to my list of stuff to watch with Hattie during winter break!
Shut Up Wesley 7:50:29 PM
Hi Ms Bot! Always enjoyed how one of the “articles “ in the newspaper contained in the LP cover of Thick As A Brick referred to him as “One-legged flautist” Ian Anderson.
Lizbot (host) 7:50:49 PM
Dagmar's vocals capture the bitter chill!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:57 PM
@Wesley - haha! The worst traffic I ever got stuck in going through the Lincoln Tunnel while there was an accident in the tunnel, I managed to listened to ALL of Thick As a Brick parts 1 AND 2!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:18 PM
Dare me to play more Jethro!
Shut Up Wesley 7:52:29 PM
Has Ian recovered his singing voice? I remember a tv interview from years ago where he said he can speak but his singing voice was gone after so many years of touring…
Lizbot (host) 7:52:52 PM
haha, I have played all the Tull I can for the coming months, I believe!
jimboo 7:52:53 PM
BOT! 🤖
Lizbot (host) 7:53:00 PM
Hi Jimboo!!
Shut Up Wesley 7:53:32 PM
Welp, Ms Bot went and found more Jethro Tull!
Lizbot (host) 7:54:08 PM
@Wesley - I dunno, BUT I'm still mad about the Tull show that never was (for me, anyway) when I lost the old-fashioned paper tickets you used to get in the mail and I scoured my house and gave up. This was maybe 2007
Lizbot (host) 7:54:22 PM
@Wesley - No one objected!
Christine 𓅓 7:54:25 PM
With this playlist, we are renewed. Thank you, Lizbot!

Stay socked and gloved fire warm on the cold Christmas day and New Years day, Liz.
TAndy 7:56:34 PM
Thanks for the music this evening! The past hour did a lot to get some stress off my mind before having to get ready for work 💙

My Off The Rails Crazy Christmas Show will be airing at 1 AM, including Santa Lost A HO, and many more, until then, BCNU!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:09 PM
@Wesley - I worked with a guy many years ago who barely ever spoke at work, and then one day, Jethro Tull came on the radio and he stopped what he was doing, got a distant look in his eyes, and then just grunted "mmmm, FLUTE"
Rofflestomp 7:58:20 PM
Geez, so many open tabs and bookmarks to dig into. My WPRB folder over-flowith. That's my rating system, and this show was top notch. Thanks Lizbot! Wish George and Hattie a Merry Christmas for me an have a great season time.
