Jon Field had played flute on Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" in 1973. That, and some networking by Steve Winwood of Traffic, helped get Jade Warrior a 4-LP contract with Island Records. "Way Of The Sun" was the fourth and final LP for Island Records.

This was a Carlos Santana project, but was released under the name "Devadip" (the "spiritual name" given to him by cult leader Sri Chinmoy). Soon, he would start bristling at Chinmoy's demands and restrictions, and ended his association with the cult by 1982.

Skaggs showed prowess at an early age, playing mandolin on stage with Bill Monroe at age 5 and appearing on TV with Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs at 7. He emerged as a professional bluegrass musician in 1971.
