Hello! It's good to be back!!!
Number 6 5:01:36 PM
Yay! How's Lizbot and the Lizbotteers?
Brian D 5:01:37 PM
This all sounds very grown up.. .
Lizbot (host) 5:02:38 PM
Hi Number 6!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:39 PM
Hi Brian D!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:02:52 PM
Hello Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:36 PM
@Number 6 - welp, I'm no longer testing positive for COVID, nor is my daughter, but I have some residual lung tightening doom for which I'm on steroids, so look out! Reinforced mega-bot!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:41 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland!
Number 6 5:05:08 PM
There's crap going around. I had mild runs on and off these past weeks.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:05:26 PM
@Lizbot, I'm glad you're testing negative. Hopefully Residual Lung Tightening Doom will go on tour and never come back.
Lizbot (host) 5:05:49 PM
The first week I had a sub because it was at the beginning of my first bout of COVID and I was feeling particularly lousy the first 3 days - bad chills, body ache, throat very sore, lost my voice. THEN my daughter got it 3 days later, THEN my husband was in an accident and broke his right hip, which it turns out you need to do pretty much anything
Number 6 5:06:44 PM
Oooh! I hope he gets better soon!
George Korein 5:07:44 PM
So far so good!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:47 PM
@Number 6 - Yeah, I was all excited to get the new bicovalent COVID booster, and scheduled it for that Friday two weeks ago, but then got this creeping covid crud 3 days prior to my shot :( Looking forward to getting it when I can!
Lizbot (host) 5:08:59 PM
@Rob - haha, I might have to play Residual Lung Tightening Doom on my annual DevilPlusGhoul with KILLBOT show in 2 weeks - Thursday, October 27th!
George Korein 5:09:34 PM
Not on opioids! I am a once and future community ambulant without assistive device!

Lizbot (host) 5:10:54 PM
@George - Striving to ambulate!

@Number 6 - The man himself is here, walker and all, to tell the tale

Lizbot (host) 5:12:39 PM
@George - I WON'T be "Screaming for Vengeance" 'til I have the lung capacity!
Lizbot (host) 5:13:20 PM
@Brian D - What sounds grown up? Robert Wyatt? or breaking hips? or both?
George Korein 5:17:21 PM

Number 6 5:22:01 PM
I have some bad news also, the neon museum will be closing in December, so you'd best get there soon.:(
Lizbot (host) 5:24:25 PM
@Number 6 - I saw that news this week and thought of you! I ALSO thought of the neon museum a few days after hearing that they were closing as I drove on North Broad St onto where it turns into Old York Road, because I saw that the abandoned Oak Lane Diner's glorious neon steaming coffee cup sign is STILL sitting there, now unlit, and it would've been PERFECT for that museum! I used to drive by it often while it was still lit/the diner was still open, on my way to my in-laws' house
Lizbot (host) 5:25:34 PM
@George - Do you have a Hip Transistor implanted in your femoral neck now? Can it pick up WPRB??
George Korein 5:26:03 PM
I have a story about "And Through The Wire". When I first heard it I thought it was "cringe". Then after meeting Liz I thought she would love it and just imagining her embracing the earnest exuberance of the song made me love the song, so I played it for her and then she did too
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:26:08 PM
@Lizbot, it does sound like a Residents song
Lizbot (host) 5:26:10 PM
Now I'm married to a Mechanical Man. The Prophecy of DEVO, and Bent Bolt & The Nuts before them, has come true
CARLOS RAMONE 5:26:37 PM
@#6. Thanks again for putting info about neon museum a few weeks ago, especially since I see that it is closing.
Lizbot (host) 5:27:09 PM
My broken-hipped husband is part metal now, no giant magnets for him. Ruins my weekend plans to hang out under one of those giant car compacting junkyard magnets
Lizbot (host) 5:27:14 PM
Hi Carlos!
Lizbot (host) 5:27:41 PM
@Rob - Yeah, I WILL be doing a themed show about all this doom during the upcoming WPRB Fall Quiet Drive!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:28:32 PM
@Lizbot & @George, yikes!!!! I'm glad that you are not on opioids and can walk
CARLOS RAMONE 5:28:33 PM
@ Liz..wait till next time hubby goes to fly and has to show medical card for his metal parts prior to going thru TSA
Number 6 5:28:46 PM
I assume that the signs will go into storage. I hope that the storefront at 31st and Market will remain.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:28:50 PM
@Lizbot, looking forward to your themed show!
Brian D 5:28:53 PM
Lizbot, the "...it's quite grown up!" little kids station ID aired before you started. I like this music!
Lizbot (host) 5:29:23 PM
@Carlos Ramone & Number 6 - I am hoping to make it to the neon museum before it closes for good, but with everything going on with caring for my husband and doing all the childcare in addition to usual stuff, I can't see getting anywhere any time soon! I already had to miss a bunch of shows I had tickets for and was really looking forward to
Number 6 5:29:46 PM
Bummer!
Brian D 5:30:45 PM
The word "metal" sounds best when given the Rob Halford Brummie glottal stop treatment as "MEH-ull"
CARLOS RAMONE 5:31:25 PM
@ Liz..great part was walking back to temple station after the museum and an Oktoberfest celebration was go8
Brian D 5:31:27 PM
Devil Plus Ghoul approaching....
CARLOS RAMONE 5:31:32 PM
Going on
Rofflestomp 5:33:05 PM
On a positive note, I've never a cyborg I did not like. True story.
Brian D 5:33:07 PM
Hip Priest Screaming For Vengeance-uhh
George Korein 5:34:08 PM
I remember suggesting song titles for Behold the Arctopus. I don't think they used any of them, but one of them was, if I remember, "The Secret In My Bionic Hip Compartment"
Rofflestomp 5:34:10 PM
*never met*
George Korein 5:34:51 PM
let me guess: waiting for wonderland
Number 6 5:35:01 PM
How about a show about neon signs or something? There's some vids on youtube about the museum.
George Korein 5:35:23 PM
Dang I didn't type it fast enough to send before you mentioned the sea monster
George Korein 5:36:07 PM

Time takes an ambulette... and puts it in your mouth...
George Korein 5:36:23 PM
hahaha
CARLOS RAMONE 5:36:29 PM
A women at a bar asked me for my sign…I blinked and answered neon
Lizbot (host) 5:36:50 PM
@Brian D - Oooh, I have so many hip puns up my sleeve...I couldn't decide on what to call that show so I crammed a buncha wordplay together but I should just call it Hip Transistor and confuse Mike Lupica's listeners
Lizbot (host) 5:37:02 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!
George Korein 5:37:04 PM
Soprano sax so good in this song, and on other VDGG
Lizbot (host) 5:37:13 PM
Help that sea monster !
Number 6 5:37:14 PM
VDGG, truly an underappreciated band!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:11 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Oh no! I hadn't even thought of that! Oof. One more thing to remember when packing for flights!
George Korein 5:38:22 PM
summon the elephants! roll that whale seaward! bread that big ol' cutlet in the sand!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:30 PM
@Carlos - Plus no MRIs without some precautions!
George Korein 5:38:59 PM
until it is rinsed in the waters of the world and set free to glide through the tide!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:04 PM
@Number 6 - Yeah, I hope they find a new home for the museum in the near future
Brian D 5:39:11 PM
Camper Van Der Graaf My Ge-Ge-Ge-Generation Under a Groove
Lizbot (host) 5:39:45 PM
@Brian D - I think a station ID about being made outta MEH-ull in Rob Halford's voice is in order
Lizbot (host) 5:40:29 PM
@Carlos - oh dang! Yeah, so many good outdoor fests and shows in this last month before it's too cold out!
Brian D 5:40:33 PM
YES! I would love a long string of Rob MEH-ull's all cut together ala John Peel's The Fall The Fall The Fall The Fall....
Rofflestomp 5:40:39 PM
Hi Lizbot, yea at least a seat belt for for MRI stuff sounds wise. Ay, caramba!
Joe Moore 5:40:58 PM
Hey just wanted to say I am so sorry to hear about the wringer your crew has gone through lately Lizbot, its really nice to hear you back doing something that brings you joy and brings us joy too! Speedy recovery and good days ahead to all involved!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:47 PM
@Rofflestomp - The TSA will have to sit George down and question him about what he'd do if a wasp landed on him to make sure he's human enough to board a plane
Rofflestomp 5:42:09 PM
lol
Lizbot (host) 5:42:24 PM
@George - How long ago did you suggest that title to Arctopus and what made you think of it?
George Korein 5:42:25 PM
Thanks Joe!
George Korein 5:43:00 PM
What made me think of it? Hip!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:06 PM
Hi Joe Moore!
George Korein 5:43:13 PM
The bionic part secondarily
George Korein 5:43:33 PM
I would've suggested it circa 2003 or 4
Brian D 5:43:58 PM
And.. you'll need the wasp wheel, wasp swing, wasp ladder, a two-way radio, and a book on wasps you'll need to buy, that'll be £184.015
Lizbot (host) 5:44:16 PM
@Joe Moore - Thank you! It's been a crazy couple of weeks! Everything all at once! Would be good to not be COVID-y while dealing with an emergency!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:48 PM
@George - For some reason I was thinking that song suggestion was years ago, in the early days of Arctopus. It just sounds like something you'd come up with back then
Rofflestomp 5:45:16 PM
Never occurred to me that titanium was so hip.
Lizbot (host) 5:45:44 PM
Let it be known that George busted his hip on an e-scooter going uphill while singing Pink Floyd's San Tropez
Rofflestomp 5:46:14 PM
Please forward the get well vibe for me too.
Lizbot (host) 5:46:41 PM
@Brian D - ha! And don't forget an album by the band W.A.S.P.
George Korein 5:46:48 PM
yes that was the early days of Arctopus
Lizbot (host) 5:47:58 PM
@Rofflestomp - Titanium can be a hip transistor for transmitting Wprb radio waves. We can pick up the station on George's femoral neck if need be. Handy!
Rofflestomp 5:48:39 PM
Wonderful utility!
Lizbot (host) 5:49:30 PM
My promise to you listeners is that the show will pick up in tempo and mood after this Chameleons song! I realize it's been a bit on the melancholic tip today!
CARLOS RAMONE 5:50:10 PM
Fits the rainy day in these parts
Number 6 5:50:12 PM
The Chameleons are great!
Joe Moore 5:50:13 PM
We're digging it here so far. Matches the vibe out the window.
Brian D 5:50:53 PM
All Chameleons are great! UK and US (RIP Dan Hicks)
Joe Moore 5:50:55 PM
Also should update the San Tropez wikipedia as it is clearly a cursed song.
Rofflestomp 5:51:19 PM
@CARLOS, looking out the window thinking the same thing. :)
Number 6 5:51:32 PM
@ Brian- I agree.
Lizbot (host) 5:52:15 PM
@Rofflestomp - Pin-Hips on the Move - the new reworked song by Tuxedomoon! Also, if George doesn't mind my saying so, he revisited King Missile's The Boy Made Out Of Bone China in the light of his injury and I was enjoying revisiting that Failure album, so we'll probably hear that on the Hip Priest themed specialty Fall Quiet Drive Doubleplusgood next week.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:49 PM
@Joe - Thank you! Yeah, my mood all day has been: very happy/emotional to return to the airwaves + rainy day melancholy + sleep-deprivation
Brian D 5:57:08 PM
Classic here
Lizbot (host) 5:57:47 PM
@Joe Moore - Ha, also E-SCOOTERS are accursed machines that you can far too easily bust yourself on! George was only going like 16 mph, and uphill, and this was considered an unusually severe break for someone his age, what they call a 'high-velocity event'
Lizbot (host) 5:58:02 PM
@Brian D - Yes! I love this song!
Brian D 5:58:42 PM
Dreamy foggy lead guitar on the cliff above the water...
Lizbot (host) 5:58:48 PM
@Carlos Ramones - Thanks! Yeah, it's just one of those rainy day kinda mopey shows!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 5:59:15 PM

Brian D 5:59:22 PM
I recently watched the Chad and J.T. episode on e-Scooters. What up Council?
Brian D 5:59:31 PM
They are lovable those 2
Lizbot (host) 5:59:52 PM
@Brian D / Number 6 - For some reason I listen to The Chameleons in the fall more than any other time of year. Script of the Bridge is great with a touch of gothic autumnal gloom
Lizbot (host) 6:00:17 PM
@Rob - Dos-e-Do (sp?) to the head of the playlist
Brian D 6:00:33 PM

Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 6:01:21 PM
@Lizbot, totally!!
Rofflestomp 6:01:45 PM
Cracked a rib last month falling off my ebike. Still hurts, safety is fickle. Love. love, love my helmet!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 6:02:10 PM
@Lizbot, this may be my favorite song from the 90s.
Brian D 6:02:19 PM
Well, I see them as kind of scary because they come riding past you so fast when you're just walking along. Yeah. Right. If you sign that, you can't say things like that anymore. Oh, okay. ( chuckles ) Thanks. Now for the rest of your life, you can never utter another bad word about e-scooters or those who ride them. Okay. Do you want my email? Yes, please.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦐 🇮🇷 6:03:21 PM
@Rofflestomp, yikes. And Lizbot/George, triple yikes. ebikes/escooters sound fraught.

LOL Brian, I normally enjoy things that crack me up; however...

Lizbot (host) 6:14:45 PM
@Rofflestomp - oh no! Just saw yr comment about your cracked rib now! That sucks!
DSM 6:15:29 PM
Hey Lizbot! Good to hear you back on the dial! Hope you and family are fastly fully recovered bots.
Shut Up Wesley 6:16:22 PM
Ooooh! Amelia from Hejira! Absolutely beautiful! ♥️
Lizbot (host) 6:16:40 PM
@Rofflestomp - George & I were talking about how, with regular bikes and scooters the rider seems more likely to have the instinct in a split second when losing control of the vehicle to let is slow to a stop or at least slow down and fall with ones hands taking the brunt of the force. But with this thing, not being used to wiping out on it, he went off while it was still at full speed
Shut Up Wesley 6:17:57 PM
Happy landings to you, Amelia Earhart; Farewell, First Lady of the air… 🎶
Lizbot (host) 6:18:20 PM
Hi DSM! Thank you! Times like these make me wish I WERE made of metal, or at least my lungs weren't so prone to viruses, but then again, now my injured husband is part metal and that's not so fun either!
Brian D 6:18:21 PM
Lizbot have you ever played Boredoms project OOIOO lp "Gamel"? Might fit on your show nicely.
Lizbot (host) 6:18:55 PM
Hi Wes[ley]! Happy belayed King Crimson Day
Lizbot (host) 6:19:36 PM
@Brian D - haha, that's Hot de Tune, ahhh
Rofflestomp 6:20:45 PM
@Lizbot, ouch! My front tire got stuck in a rut crossing some construction stuff. It's just too easy to go fast without any effort. New skill sets are surely needed.
Shut Up Wesley 6:21:26 PM
@Brian D - is Hot Detuna that band with Jorma Caulkconenen and David Cassidy’s father Jack?
Lizbot (host) 6:22:33 PM
@Brian D - As I type this, George's hospital discharge instructions are sitting atop my kid's school library physics books about velocity and Newton's laws of motion!
Rofflestomp 6:23:45 PM
E=mv
Lizbot (host) 6:25:04 PM
@Rofflestomp - yeah, honestly I feel so guilty because I bought him the damn thing for his birthday! But it's because he had such a great time scootering around on a rental e-scooter in Detroit during our midwest road-trip this summer! I am usually the overly cautious one who advises him not to use stuff like that, but I threw caution to the wind and tried to be less anxious and after three rides on the thing - broken hip!
CARLOS RAMONE 6:25:14 PM
@ Liz…with hospital bills being what they are now..is George the new 6 million dollar man?
Rofflestomp 6:26:45 PM
@Lizbot, wow, 3 rides is a hell of a learning curve. Talk about a crash course!
Lizbot (host) 6:27:14 PM
@Carlos - haha, I HOPE not. God knows what all this cost. He had emergency surgery and was hospitalized for a week! Plus the physical therapy and follow-ups. And the ambulance ride! We haven't gotten any bills yet, but I DREAD dealing with the hospital billing dept when we do!
Rofflestomp 6:27:21 PM
But they are fun.
Lizbot (host) 6:27:43 PM
@Rofflestomp - Now I see other people on them and I'm thinking "dead man scooting"
Rofflestomp 6:28:13 PM
LOL
Lizbot (host) 6:28:34 PM
@Rofflestomp - He had a blast on them in Michigan and also during our St. Louis trip later in the summer, but I think a big difference is that those citywide rental scooters are slower and clunkier
Number 6 6:28:48 PM
All that stuff is for the younguns.
CARLOS RAMONE 6:29:09 PM
@ Liz..my son had had a skating accident in college while under my insurance
Rofflestomp 6:29:33 PM
Yes, the e-rentals are much slower for the most part.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:40 PM
@Carlos - Oof, so scary! Was he badly hurt?
CARLOS RAMONE 6:30:12 PM
Surgery..3 days in ICU ..missed school for 2 weeks..when we g9t the bill 8 had t9 question whY did we even pay for insurance
Lizbot (host) 6:30:34 PM
@Number 6 - haha, I got him this scooter for a certain milestone birthday...What a way to usher in old age!
Lizbot (host) 6:30:55 PM
....well, more like middle age
Rofflestomp 6:31:23 PM
Age seems to target hips for sure.
Brian D 6:33:39 PM
Middle Age, Middle Earth...
Lizbot (host) 6:33:57 PM
@Carlos Ramone - oh god. Yeah, I am not optimistic. Especially these days. Plus the hospital was very understaffed. But even back in the early 90s I remember when my grandmom was sick and hospitalized for a long stay, Jefferson sent one particular bill that didn't make sense to us so we asked for an itemized list and what they sent us listed the cost of regular old tissueboxes she supposedly used as THOUSANDS of dollars. Tissue. Boxes.
Brian D 6:34:01 PM
Great lp this Julia Holter "Aviary"
Number 6 6:34:13 PM
At Burger King they have some vids of people jumping off of a ledge onto a trampoline and back onto the ledge. I would like to try, but I would probably break something.
Rofflestomp 6:34:49 PM
@Brian D, Old... :)
Brian D 6:34:51 PM
I think you can pay the hospital bills with "vibes". And "feels". Pretty sure
Lizbot (host) 6:35:00 PM
@Rofflestomp - haha, he's only 40! Welcome to Middle Age! To celebrate here's a broken hip! everything I look up about broken hips assumes the patient is 80!
Brian D 6:35:36 PM
Parkour Roi de Hamburger style!
Rofflestomp 6:36:39 PM
I bet the Angel of hip breaking was just saying hi.
Lizbot (host) 6:37:42 PM
@Brian D - ha, yeah, maybe I can break out my dusty old copy of the craptastic Jeff Goldblum/Cyndi Lauper psychic rom-com "Vibes" and send that to the hospital!
CARLOS RAMONE 6:40:05 PM
Do you get a handicap parking space for a while?
Lizbot (host) 6:40:23 PM
@Brian D - I think George's parkour days are numbered. And he was particularly big on stunts and jumps and ill-advised climbs (see his dance on the top of a narrow boat mooring on the very edge of the Allegheny River this past June!)
Rofflestomp 6:41:36 PM
Back in the day a couple of chickens and a goat was perfectly acceptable payment for services rendered.
Brian D 6:42:33 PM
I doubled down with my double knit double denim and got double mint gum stuck in the fabric.... twice

Lizbot (host) 6:44:27 PM
@Brian D - That's what a certain indie record label would call a Double Double Whammy, (which is also what Fred Schneider calls when one wears a wig stacked on top of another wig)
Lizbot (host) 6:44:31 PM
@Carlos - YES!
Lizbot (host) 6:45:41 PM
@Rofflestomp - If only! I had backyard chickens up until a few years ago and my friend has those and goats! I'd just make a visit to her backyard farm and pay her back in animal husbandry services later
Lizbot (host) 6:46:39 PM
@Carlos - I blanked on the name on air! That's such a pretty place in the autumn daylight, but not easy to get to!
Brian D 6:46:45 PM
big double bucks big double bucks big double bucks no Double Whammy no Double Whammy no Double Whammy
Rofflestomp 6:46:53 PM
The real workings of a community.

@Brian D - That situation was double mint double mint dumb
Brian D 6:47:24 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:48:04 PM
@Brian D - Now you're just making me hungry for dinner!
Rofflestomp 6:48:40 PM
@Brian, And of course Double Jeopardy, where the stakes are doubled and ANYTHING can happen!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:04 PM
@Carlos Ramone - You know, I was wondering about that..I gotta look into how to get a disabled parking placard because man, just getting him a half a block the other day took ages, and I got a good parking spot that time
Lizbot (host) 6:49:57 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Not to mention, we were walking by the Keswick and a zillion ppl were leaving a show and not looking where they were going and walking into George on his walker
Number 6 6:52:02 PM
Not good to be oldenbroke!
Rofflestomp 6:52:47 PM
There are those other kinds of electric handi-capped scooters that people sit on. Too soon?
Lizbot (host) 6:53:13 PM
@Number 6 - yeah, George doesn't need any risky ideas for a King of Burgers and Bad Ideas! Good thing he got in his epic 40th birthday trip to the City Museum in St. Louis this summer because otherwise he'd probably never get to use their insane 10-story slide or climb all over that oversized adult playground!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:33 PM
@Number 6 - Olden & Broke is even worse! Olden times medicine - no antibiotics, and a bottle of whiskey for the pain!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:31 PM
@Rofflestomp - haha, I sense a conspiracy. E-scooter companies probably also manufacture The Lark and other disabled/limited mobility scooters!
Lizbot (host) 6:58:16 PM
@Brian D - Big Double Bucks County is what I call Upper Bucks
Rofflestomp 6:58:18 PM
@Lizbot - Job security. lol
Ossy Hyouka 6:58:42 PM
Hi Liz!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:30 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Ever been to Fort Mifflin? I was there as a kid but barely remembered it. It was really fun to walk around there in September and go in the grassy mound-covered buildings!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:33 PM
Hello Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:42 PM
@Ossy - You got here in time for a cute song!
Dennis Lingg 6:59:59 PM
Hey Liz and all!
Ossy Hyouka 7:00:22 PM
I know, so adorable and pretty! 💖❤🔥🌟
Lizbot (host) 7:00:54 PM
@Ossy - We've been talking about breaking oneself on e-scooters, which are, collectively, the Devil!
Lizbot (host) 7:01:05 PM
Hi Dennis! So sorry about Merry
Ossy Hyouka 7:01:15 PM
And on background TV of that Box Trolls movie on Freeform as 31 nights of Halloween
Dennis Lingg 7:01:31 PM
Thanks Liz, he was a good one.
Ossy Hyouka 7:01:51 PM
Oooo so scary scooters like snelly camping !
Ossy Hyouka 7:02:00 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:02:19 PM
@Dennis - I love the photos you posted of him, especially him posing with the turkey!
Lizbot (host) 7:02:23 PM
@Dennis - Will you still be recording an episode of MVM, or are you two taking the week off?
CARLOS RAMONE 7:03:19 PM
@ Liz..been to FT a few times..both my kids were history buffs at an early age..definitely gotta be looking for it..not finding it by accident
Dennis Lingg 7:03:25 PM
We actually recorded 2 last week with different guests. One should be up tonight.
Lizbot (host) 7:03:35 PM
@Ossy - Ooooh, my kid and I saw Box Trolls in the theater when it came out years ago. We enjoyed it, except for the gross part with the cheese!
CARLOS RAMONE 7:04:04 PM
Most times we tied it in to a trip to Bartrams garden
Lizbot (host) 7:04:34 PM
@Ossy - Someone needs to make a horror movie about a killer e-scooter - It'd be Stephen King's "Christine" for our modern times
Lizbot (host) 7:05:48 PM
@Dennis - Looking forward to it! I'm all caught up on MVM, but I wonder if I should've watched Wolfen before listening to last week's episode...From the sound of it, Mary would probably say Yes, but you didn't sound quite as enthused!
Lizbot (host) 7:06:32 PM
@Carlos - I love Bartram's! Almost got married there. A old friend works as an education coordinator there
Ossy Hyouka 7:07:26 PM
Liz - I haven't been actively into Box Trolls, but however love similar halloween movies like Coraline and Paranorman! Yeah, that'll be a horror flick of an e-scooter like some more scarier horror like a movie called Siren on the Syfy channel
Lizbot (host) 7:08:05 PM
@Carlos Ramone - I was raised by teachers, one of whom was a history teacher, and we consequently had no money and a lot of time in the summer for cheap road trips to forts! I even went to the Pig Wars fort and museum on San Juan Island off the coast of Washington state!
Number 6 7:08:07 PM
A few years ago I fractured my ankle at work. Luckily I fractured the left one so I was still able to drive. I did like tooling around the supermarket on the scooter though.
Dennis Lingg 7:09:39 PM
Wolfen is a weird one, I think it’s worth checking out, but doesn’t make much sense when you think about it. I love Gregory Hines in it, though.
Lizbot (host) 7:10:07 PM
@Dennis - When our beloved cat, Puss Puss Decrotandru, died a few years ago, I kept expecting him to trot up the drive to meet me when I got home, and to wake with him on my lap because he always chose to sleep on me
DSM 7:11:35 PM

Dennis Lingg 7:15:06 PM

Dennis Lingg 7:15:24 PM
I love this bassline
Rofflestomp 7:16:04 PM
@Lizbot, I love the ferry over Friday Harbor in the San Juan's. Shrimp swimming right up around the docks. Awesome stuff in the rain shadow.
Rofflestomp 7:16:29 PM
This song is in high rotation on my playlist! :)
CARLOS RAMONE 7:16:34 PM
@ Liz..daughter lives in PDX in oregon. Every visit out there we go different Lewis and Clarke site to see some different history
Lizbot (host) 7:18:41 PM
@Ossy - I gotta check out Siren...or perhaps not! Box Trolls was a better movie than most kids movies that came out around when my daughter was 6. Same studio made Kubo & The Two Strings, which was better and scarier, with those downright creepy sisters, PLUS ParaNorman and Coraline. My kid loved Coraline and made a comic about it before reading the Neil Gaiman comic the movie is based on! Then she got to meet Neil Gaiman at a Magnetic Fields show at The Apollo and was completed tongue-tied!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:14 PM
@Number 6 - oof, my friend fractured her ankle years ago and her recovery sucked. Unfortunately, George, broke his RIGHT hip, so no driving [or unassisted walking for that matter] for him for a loooong while!
Mary Jones 7:20:30 PM
@Lizbot thanks for your kind words. It is very very weird for Merry to be gone. If we hadn't already recorded a couple of episodes, we'd have taken the week off, but we accidentally built up a little buffer.
Mary Jones 7:20:39 PM
Wolfen 90% rocks. Worth seeing.
Lizbot (host) 7:20:40 PM
Hi Mary!
Mary Jones 7:21:16 PM
Hello! Glad George is home from the hospital!
Lizbot (host) 7:21:55 PM
@Dennis - Yeah, I think you mentioned its muddled plot quite a bit in the episode! Maybe more of an [early 80s NYC] mood piece!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:41 PM
@Carlos - Nice! I love Portland. Went in 2016 and a couple times as a teen as well. PDX > Seattle!
George Korein 7:22:58 PM
Digging the OPN and other mystical electrotunes this ++good
Number 6 7:24:05 PM
@Lizbot- After hobbling around for a couple of weeks they finally did an MRI and found the fracture. No fun either way!
Lizbot (host) 7:24:48 PM
@Mary - I wasn't expecting you guys to record an episode this week when I saw yr news, but it's good you had a couple already completed!
Lizbot (host) 7:25:22 PM
@George - Thx! Glad you like these moody rainy night electronix
Lizbot (host) 7:26:05 PM
@Number 6 - yikes! No fun to be hobbling on it without any cast or crutches!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:01 PM
@Number 6 - a OR recovery room nurse at Einstein while George was coming out from anesthesia told me she had a patient who broke her ankle on an e-scooter while on a vacation in Panama and the hospital there was being so shady and asking for payment up front in CASH in FULL, so she booked an early flight and boarded with a broken Anke and had surgery in Philly!
Number 6 7:28:16 PM
@Lizbot- I did have crutches. They did give me one of those boots with the velcro then.
Ossy Hyouka 7:28:41 PM
Liz - Nice to meet the famous author, Neil Gaiman! And looking at Freeform channel once again, I think the Corpse Bride is playing now, which I mistook for Vox Trolls. Yeah, I know Kubo from the same place as Coraline and Paranorman, never seen it, but hear it's good! About Siren, yeah it's an r-rated, too horror TV film, about a denomic clothless girl with a ominous melodic chant, to lure men for her prey. Saw that once years ago, too scary!!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:54 PM
@Mary - I need to do a Wolfen / Long Good Friday double-feature for early 80s/bad old 70s hangover NYC development vibes
Number 6 7:29:52 PM
@Lizbot- Luckily I didn't need any surgery.
Lizbot (host) 7:30:15 PM
@Mary - When our cat Puss Puss died, I found him just before we had to leave for a ceremony honoring my octogenarian dad's high school track & field records, so we just sorta went into auto-pilot for the ceremony
Mary Jones 7:32:37 PM
@Lizbot Long Good Friday is *amazing*--one of the best movies we've covered. I would recommend that to everyone in a heartbeat. But Wolfen is an interesting and relevant pairing, and worth it.
Mary Jones 7:33:46 PM
@Lizbot oh, that is a rough way to find him. Yeah, there's nothing you can do but go on autopilot. We were in the middle of our workday, and I just told my boss we had to step away for a while--they were very understanding thankfully.
jimbeaux 7:35:01 PM
Yeeeo Bot! Hope Bionic George mends up. 🤖🤖🤖🦿🦿🦿
Lizbot (host) 7:36:15 PM
@Mary - I've had The Long Good Friday on my list ever since yr episode! I wanna watch that one w/ George because I think it's up his alley. Also, doesn't it have Helen Mirren?
Lizbot (host) 7:36:23 PM
Hello jimbeaux!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:56 PM
@jimbeaux - ah yes, that robo-leg emoji is a lot more relevant to us now!
Mary Jones 7:37:38 PM
Yep, Helen Mirren, and she is *fantastic* (of course). It's really a fascinating movie.
Lizbot (host) 7:38:08 PM
@Number 6 - That's good! Yeah, my friend had the boot and crutches for a while on and off because she kept reinjuring it!
Lizbot (host) 7:39:26 PM
@Mary - I take solace in the fact that Puss was curled up in his favorite chair on the deck and died seemingly peacefully in his sleep. No prolonged illness or need for making the dreaded euthanasia decision
Lizbot (host) 7:40:16 PM
@MAry - Everything about it, including casting, sounds great
Joe Moore 7:40:41 PM
Was away but we had the show on all night, while we had dinner, got ready for bed. Thanks for the wonderful soundtrack. Before books the nearly 3-yo and I had a dance party to Oneohtrix Point Never. Very excited to dig into more Helena Hauff and this Emily A Sprague!
George Korein 7:41:17 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:41:35 PM

A few seconds of silence just now
Lizbot (host) 7:46:47 PM
@Ossy - It was so funny! She basically tried to yeet into the empty seats near here to get away from him, she was so starstruck! This was when she was 8 years old. She even owned the deep-cut very off-Broadway album of the musical of Coraline that Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields wrote the music for, which is why Gaiman was at that show, and both George and I have met Claudia Gonson of MF in the past so she introduced Hattie to Neil...
Mary Jones 7:47:05 PM
@Lizbot yeah, we felt lucky that Merry didn't have to be euthanized, he just passed away on his own. 18 is pretty old for a cat, and it was just his time.
Lizbot (host) 7:47:23 PM
@Ossy - [continued!] - ....Hattie edged away, and then Neil Gaiman took George's cell and took a photo of him with Claudia Gonson!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:47:51 PM
Aw Mary, my cat just passed away last night. Sorry to hear about yours.

It takes a Bazilian Erics to give a hoot
Lizbot (host) 7:48:04 PM
@George - ha
Lizbot (host) 7:48:30 PM
@Addie - oh no! I'm so sorry!
Mary Jones 7:48:40 PM
I used to work at a bookstore that had Gaiman come for a signing, and he couldn't be nicer. Stayed long after the mall closed so that everyone could get their stuff signed. I was 19 or 20, and star-struck.
George Korein 7:49:08 PM
