There's crap going around. I had mild runs on and off these past weeks.

@Lizbot, I'm glad you're testing negative. Hopefully Residual Lung Tightening Doom will go on tour and never come back.

The first week I had a sub because it was at the beginning of my first bout of COVID and I was feeling particularly lousy the first 3 days - bad chills, body ache, throat very sore, lost my voice. THEN my daughter got it 3 days later, THEN my husband was in an accident and broke his right hip, which it turns out you need to do pretty much anything

Oooh! I hope he gets better soon!

So far so good!

@Number 6 - Yeah, I was all excited to get the new bicovalent COVID booster, and scheduled it for that Friday two weeks ago, but then got this creeping covid crud 3 days prior to my shot :( Looking forward to getting it when I can!

I ALSO thought of the neon museum a few days after hearing that they were closing as I drove on North Broad St onto where it turns into Old York Road, because I saw that the abandoned Oak Lane Diner's glorious neon steaming coffee cup sign is STILL sitting there, now unlit, and it would've been PERFECT for that museum! I used to drive by it often while it was still lit/the diner was still open, on my way to my in-laws' house

I have a story about "And Through The Wire". When I first heard it I thought it was "cringe". Then after meeting Liz I thought she would love it and just imagining her embracing the earnest exuberance of the song made me love the song, so I played it for her and then she did too

@Rofflestomp - yeah, honestly I feel so guilty because I bought him the damn thing for his birthday! But it's because he had such a great time scootering around on a rental e-scooter in Detroit during our midwest road-trip this summer! I am usually the overly cautious one who advises him not to use stuff like that, but I threw caution to the wind and tried to be less anxious and after three rides on the thing - broken hip!

@Carlos - haha, I HOPE not. God knows what all this cost. He had emergency surgery and was hospitalized for a week! Plus the physical therapy and follow-ups. And the ambulance ride! We haven't gotten any bills yet, but I DREAD dealing with the hospital billing dept when we do!

@Carlos Ramone - oh god. Yeah, I am not optimistic. Especially these days. Plus the hospital was very understaffed. But even back in the early 90s I remember when my grandmom was sick and hospitalized for a long stay, Jefferson sent one particular bill that didn't make sense to us so we asked for an itemized list and what they sent us listed the cost of regular old tissueboxes she supposedly used as THOUSANDS of dollars. Tissue. Boxes.

Liz - I haven't been actively into Box Trolls, but however love similar halloween movies like Coraline and Paranorman! Yeah, that'll be a horror flick of an e-scooter like some more scarier horror like a movie called Siren on the Syfy channel

@Carlos Ramone - I was raised by teachers, one of whom was a history teacher, and we consequently had no money and a lot of time in the summer for cheap road trips to forts! I even went to the Pig Wars fort and museum on San Juan Island off the coast of Washington state!

A few years ago I fractured my ankle at work. Luckily I fractured the left one so I was still able to drive. I did like tooling around the supermarket on the scooter though.

Wolfen is a weird one, I think it’s worth checking out, but doesn’t make much sense when you think about it. I love Gregory Hines in it, though.

@Dennis - When our beloved cat, Puss Puss Decrotandru, died a few years ago, I kept expecting him to trot up the drive to meet me when I got home, and to wake with him on my lap because he always chose to sleep on me

@Ossy - I gotta check out Siren...or perhaps not! Box Trolls was a better movie than most kids movies that came out around when my daughter was 6. Same studio made Kubo & The Two Strings, which was better and scarier, with those downright creepy sisters, PLUS ParaNorman and Coraline. My kid loved Coraline and made a comic about it before reading the Neil Gaiman comic the movie is based on! Then she got to meet Neil Gaiman at a Magnetic Fields show at The Apollo and was completed tongue-tied!

@Number 6 - oof, my friend fractured her ankle years ago and her recovery sucked. Unfortunately, George, broke his RIGHT hip, so no driving [or unassisted walking for that matter] for him for a loooong while!

@Lizbot thanks for your kind words. It is very very weird for Merry to be gone. If we hadn't already recorded a couple of episodes, we'd have taken the week off, but we accidentally built up a little buffer.

@Number 6 - a OR recovery room nurse at Einstein while George was coming out from anesthesia told me she had a patient who broke her ankle on an e-scooter while on a vacation in Panama and the hospital there was being so shady and asking for payment up front in CASH in FULL, so she booked an early flight and boarded with a broken Anke and had surgery in Philly!

@Lizbot- I did have crutches. They did give me one of those boots with the velcro then.

Liz - Nice to meet the famous author, Neil Gaiman! And looking at Freeform channel once again, I think the Corpse Bride is playing now, which I mistook for Vox Trolls. Yeah, I know Kubo from the same place as Coraline and Paranorman, never seen it, but hear it's good! About Siren, yeah it's an r-rated, too horror TV film, about a denomic clothless girl with a ominous melodic chant, to lure men for her prey. Saw that once years ago, too scary!!

@Lizbot Long Good Friday is *amazing*--one of the best movies we've covered. I would recommend that to everyone in a heartbeat. But Wolfen is an interesting and relevant pairing, and worth it.

@Lizbot oh, that is a rough way to find him. Yeah, there's nothing you can do but go on autopilot. We were in the middle of our workday, and I just told my boss we had to step away for a while--they were very understanding thankfully.

She even owned the deep-cut very off-Broadway album of the musical of Coraline that Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields wrote the music for, which is why Gaiman was at that show, and both George and I have met Claudia Gonson of MF in the past so she introduced Hattie to Neil...

@Lizbot yeah, we felt lucky that Merry didn't have to be euthanized, he just passed away on his own. 18 is pretty old for a cat, and it was just his time.
