Bird Report: Saw snowy egrets and an osprey over Barnegat Bay and two pairs of pelicans over the ocean, and many many gulls and plovers

Any horseshoe crabs on LBI? There used to be so many, but I feel like they are rare now

Also spotted in the ocean: 1 porpoise and a school of cow-nose stingrays that swam right around me as I swam in about chest-deep water

@DSM - I haven't seen any this year at all

Whoa, but the the cow nose stingrays! That's something I've never seen there!

@DSM - I went to Kitt's Hummock beach in Delaware, near Dover, 10 years ago during horseshoe crab mating season and saw hundreds covering the beach. The smell was INTENSE, as many crabs met their doom, hopefully after mating! Loads were upside down, rotting in the sun, but it was a really cool sight to see and their tails left cool patterns in the sand.

@DSM - I've heard that now the horseshoe crab numbers in Delaware are down precipitously because the Pharma companies have been permitted to "milk" (extract their chalky blue blood for various industrial and pharma uses) far more of them than they used to and about half die from that process

Big Pharma damn you!

That mating season scene sounds intense for sure!

@DSM - Who knew horseshoe crab blood had so many uses?! and WHO discovered that and HOW?

@DSM - I took so many photos of that day. The crabs turn in the sand and the patterns they leave look like elaborate swirls and mandalas.

I can't resist lamenting that it's 86 degrees in Philly right now and in the 70s down the shore, where it was also in the 70s the entire time I was there. Wish I could just reside there forever, but then I'd only have Journey and Springsteen cover bands to watch live, unless I made the trek up to Asbury Park for The Stone Pony or Asbury Lanes, or maybe to Red Bank for the Count Basie Theatre...sorta near the shore

@Ossy - Earlier I played some chip-tune - Streets of Rage soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro

When I used to go to international folk dances Califone was the preferred record player. We only had vinyl and tapes back then. And the Califone had continuously variable speed.

@Lizbot, that was a good set ... the transition between the Eno songs in the end was not missed

Hi TAndy! Glad to hear it! Yeah, I took a reeeeeeeeally long time to wake up today. I wasn't really awake even when I was. A large black tea shortly before the show helped with that tremendously

Yesterday I was Steve Harvey Morning Show and they had a funny recherche topic of someone's lover being "sharp and smelly" LOL. Basically it was a written letter of the smelly alcoholic dude's wife read on live air, hoping she'll get advice from them on what to do, only to have them disgusted and making fun of the guy, because it's something she can handle by herself

@Ossy - ha, I wonder what the "sharp" part of "sharp and smelly" is referring to? Like sharp cheddar?!

I saw the Sundance premiere but on my little laptop screen in Jan 2022 and watched Sara Dosa's Q&A but can't wait for George to see it and the score is great - by Nicolas Godin of Air - I highly recommend this doc to you & Mary!
