“Welcome to the Dollhouse” was filmed in West Caldwell and had music by NJ artists like Daniel Rey (Shrapnel guitarist and Ramones producer) and Bobby Steele (Misfits, Undead). I remember it played in Red Bank’s cinema. It might not have made it that far if it stuck with its working title, “Faggots and Retards”.

In 2004, Dawn Wiener’s brother and parents return in “Palindromes”, played by the same actors. Although Dawn is said to have killed herself, she and Brandon McCarthy seemingly return in “Wiener-Dog” (2016), played by Greta Gerwig and Kieran Culkin.

Thompson's book talks a bit about the “The Wild One”. I went to see the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Saint just because they named themselves after Marlon Brando’s gang in that movie. Lee Marvin’s gang in that same flick also inspired the name for some band, who became rather well known themselves.

The tragic density of the characters in Happiness makes them remind me of real people more so than any other movie... ok, my boss shall kill me, buh bye
