Musical based on the 1845 German children's book of cruel cautionary tales, Der Struwwelpeter, by Heinrich Hoffmann. It comprises ten illustrated and rhymed stories, mostly about children. Each has a clear moral that demonstrates the disastrous consequences of misbehavior in an exaggerated way. It is considered a precursor to comic books and is one of the earliest books for children that combines visual and verbal narratives in a book format

Lizbot (host) 5:00:05 PM
hello hello on this hot summer day!
Lizbot (host) 5:09:27 PM
roasting in the sun that's blaring through my window right now
Ambrose Hughes 5:11:13 PM
Hello Lizbot! Draw the shades maybe?
Lizbot (host) 5:11:27 PM
Hi Ambrose! No shades here
Ambrose Hughes 5:12:22 PM
Blinds?
Lizbot (host) 5:13:02 PM
I had a cat who liked to shred shades. Plus I don't like most shades. But I'm paying the price now. My show starts right as the sun hits this window next to my home studio computer at this time of year. I have weird-shaped super long windows too, but looks like I gotta break down and find something for them
Ambrose Hughes 5:14:26 PM
Oh geez!
Ambrose Hughes 5:15:17 PM
Hope you have AC or a fan blowing
Lizbot (host) 5:17:05 PM
@Ambrose - I have ac, which is not that strong right now. I am tempted to put one of those standing fans in here right next to the mic and back-announce songs into, making a electronic fluttery robot-voice
Ambrose Hughes 5:17:14 PM
This is good 'hot day' music.
Lizbot (host) 5:17:42 PM
@AMbrose - kicking back in the heat music, yes!
Ambrose Hughes 5:34:04 PM
YAY! My favorite Prince song!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:09 PM
@Ambrose - Yay!! Glad you're enjoying it!
Ambrose Hughes 5:38:53 PM

typing slowly because of some bad inflammation in my right hand I guess from work to say hello and this is reminding me Sheer Mag is great blast-from-a-stereo summertime rock
Lizbot (host) 5:39:40 PM
Hi Mary!
Mary Jones 5:40:20 PM
hello! ca't type much tonight but just wanted to say hi!
Mary Jones 5:41:51 PM
Aw, thanks for the shout-out! And Deth Elf is not easy to say!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:21 PM
@Mary - No problem! You appeared just as I was about to back-announce another 80s soundtrack Sparks song, so naturally Valley Girl and MVM's coverage of it popped into my mind!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:39 PM
@Mary - yeah, deth elf is tricky!
Mary Jones 5:46:07 PM
it's a very Dennis kind of band name
Lizbot (host) 5:46:12 PM
@Mary - Sorry about your hand inflammation. I hope it feels better soon!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:52 PM
@Mary - haha, I was wondering about that! So Dennis is responsible!
Mary Jones 5:46:55 PM
thanks very much--gonna retreat to listening for now, just to rest it.
Lizbot (host) 5:47:03 PM
@Mary - Rest up!
Ossy Hyouka 5:54:30 PM
Hot evening Liz, as i'm sweaty-smelly outside, LOOL!
Lizbot (host) 5:54:36 PM
Hi Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:01 PM
@Ossy - Thankfully my AC has been holding up, though not as strong as usual!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:27 PM
@Ossy - I hope you are staying cool! My home studio computer is right next to a shadeless window where the sun is blaring in on my face! Not as strong as it was at 5, thankfully!
Ossy Hyouka 6:00:11 PM
I am, in my room with cool ac lol to neutralize the heat. I hate that feel of shadeless windows to have sun rays in your face! Thankfully your ac has been keeping you cooling company!
Lizbot (host) 6:03:23 PM
@Ossy - My AC is stronger in this room than the rest of my place, thankfully! I just need blinds/curtains! I have odd-shaped windows so I either need to make curtains or get them custom-made, and I've never bothered - I honestly don't like the look of most curtains anyway! But yeah, I'm starting to realize I need them!
Lizbot (host) 6:19:58 PM
@Ossy - At the top of the show I played the soundtrack to Studio Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart and it has a sort of ambient video game vibe

Yeah, but repelled by the vocal style.
Lizbot (host) 6:32:38 PM
@DTO - ah! This suite me, but vocal style is so subjective. I didn't like Peter Hammill for many years and now I love him
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 6:32:57 PM

@Lizbot, the birds are coping ok with the heat here in Maryland. But I am only out walking before 8:30 or so, when it's not that hot.
Ambrose Hughes 6:35:13 PM
190 ...that's all, slacker!😉
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦀 6:37:08 PM
@Lizbot, how are the birds taking the heat up your way? In particular, the catbird?
Lizbot (host) 6:37:12 PM
@Ambrose - haha!
Ossy Hyouka 6:38:39 PM
@Liz - Oh that Chibli's Whisper song, I heard that as well! It was beautiful and didn't know what it was at the time you played it. It does have an ambient game vibe and Stevie Wonder feel. Yeah curtains are a person's and animal's friend against hot sunray's!
Lizbot (host) 6:39:01 PM
@DTO - I am kind of amazed at just how much I hated Van der Graaf Generator when I tried listening as a teen, and it wasn't the music, it was all Hammill's voice. I thought, "WHO is this bombastic guy with these ridiculous vocals?!", but beginning in my late 20s I began to love him!
Lizbot (host) 6:40:52 PM
@Rob In Maryland - My parrots are loving the heat, but they aren't in the direct sunlight!
Lizbot (host) 6:41:39 PM
@Rob - Re: Mr. Catbird - It's been too hot for me to hang on the deck, so I don't know! As much as he gets on my last nerve, I wish him health and respite from the heat this week!

Lizbot (host) 6:43:49 PM
@Ossy - Yeah, I guess it had a bit of a Stevie feel. It was played during a scene where a large cat rides the bullet train alone
Lizbot (host) 6:44:35 PM
@DTO - Yeah, it took my getting into Peter Hammill's solo work first and then expanding to VDGG to appreciate it. So glad he played NEARFest Apocalypse!

Lizbot (host) 6:48:09 PM
@Addie - I don't know if you watch the animated Lisa Hanawalt show Tuca & Bertie or not, (I love it! Lisa designed all the characters in BoJack Horseman as well,) but the latest episode featured some super sweet snakes and reminded me of you and Slithers
Ossy Hyouka 6:48:22 PM
@Liz - So sorry about your cats passing and yes true, curtains get so much dust and gets stinky at times!
Ambrose Hughes 6:48:37 PM

@Wes - that surfer guy owns a surf shop now, or at least last I checked!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:31 PM
@Addie - It's a really good show. I don't watch a ton of animated shows, but this one is great. Gets deep into female friendships, mental health, etc, but is also just absolutely delightful, funny and filled with surrealist scenes in a world called BirdTown, inhabited by birds and talking plants
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:58:06 PM
Whoa, that sounds awesome! Will check it out
Wes Steenson 6:59:41 PM
Ms Bot - condolences on Pangur Bán’s passing. 😿♥️
Lizbot (host) 7:00:02 PM
@Addie - Definitely do! It's partway through its 3rd season right now. It keeps changing streamers, but it's currently on both HBO Max and I think Adult Swim Sundays at midnight.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:03 PM
@Wes - Thanks, Wes. I am not ready for another cat. Got my hands full with my crazy dog and my many birds! Thankfully my cats and birds always got along!
Wes Steenson 7:01:17 PM
Have been catching up on Tuca and Bertie now that it’s on HBO. Started with The Flood.
Lizbot (host) 7:02:26 PM
@Wes - I think that's the last episode of Season 2?
Lizbot (host) 7:02:50 PM
@Wes - It does help to watch it in order since there is a linear storyline, but it also stands on its own
Lizbot (host) 7:03:09 PM
@Wes - Not by the choice of its creator, but it's been on a different network every season!
Lizbot (host) 7:07:49 PM
@Dave the Obscure - I wonder what you think of the next song I'm gonna play...from an album many consider to be the moment this band "jumped the shark," but I am fond of this instrumental...starting now
Wes Steenson 7:08:11 PM
Zevon! The first time I heard this song was when Jackson Browne and David Lindley played it during a live concert radio broadcast from the Main Point.

Lizbot (host) 7:13:32 PM
@DTO - haha, I have an emotional attachment to that song. I associate it with drives down the shore as a kid
Wes Steenson 7:14:11 PM
Come with me if you want to hear some tunes.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:14:31 PM
I totally get it. I have attachments to certain songs for similar reasons.
Lizbot (host) 7:15:13 PM
@DTO - I kinda wish I saw Phil just the once during his farewell tour several years ago. He has a serious terminal condition and sat for most of the sets apparently, but stood for "Take Me Home." It would've been corny to hear his cover of "can't hurry love" and whatnot, but I can't deny he left his mark on my childhood music experiences
Lizbot (host) 7:17:25 PM
@Wes - Oh wow! The Main Point! I used to live in Ardmore in the Haverford College Apartments in the late 90s. The Main Point had just been revived under new ownership and renamed simply The Point. I mostly only remember seeing the folk duo Rockwell Church there because a friend of mine wanted to go. One of the members of that duo was attending Haverford at the time. My parents saw some shows at The Main Point in the 70s
TAndy 7:18:02 PM
Hey hey everyone. Lovely music to start my evening off to 😎
Lizbot (host) 7:18:27 PM
Hello TAndy! Thanks! How're you?
Dennis Linggg 7:18:55 PM
Hi all! I bought Phil’s No Jacket Required as a tape to fill out the 12 Columbia records for a penny deal listened to that a lot, I’m not sure if I liked it, but I knew it. I liked Abacab, though.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:56 PM
@Wes - Check out Warren Zevon's cover of Steve Winwood's Back In the High Life Again. It is heartbreaking
Lizbot (host) 7:19:20 PM
Hi Dennis! I hear you are responsible for naming "Deth Elf"! I like the name but can never say it!
Wes Steenson 7:20:11 PM
Ms Bot - have heard it. True.
Lizbot (host) 7:20:47 PM
@Dennis - I loved Duke and Abacab. Man, Phil really loved putting GIANT orange-y close-ups of his face on his solo records! He updated them to feature Old Phil Face in recent reissues (I am mildly ashamed to know this...you know what? No, I'm not!)
Dennis Linggg 7:22:07 PM
Yup, sorry about that, I do tend to think more of how letters look together rather then how they sound.
Lizbot (host) 7:23:29 PM
@Dennis - you just brought back a very specific memory for me of sitting in my parents' back room, circling Columbia Records penny deal albums
Wes Steenson 7:23:41 PM
I got to perform at the old Main Point a couple of times with my acoustic folk trio. We got to open once for my banjo hero, John Hartford. He was very nice and complimentary to us! 🪕
Lizbot (host) 7:24:04 PM
@Dennis - Nah, I get a kick outta that sort of tricky assonance
Lizbot (host) 7:24:48 PM
@Dennis - I love that Stephin Merritt has a group called The 6ths with an album called Hyacinths and Thistles

Lizbot (host) 7:43:46 PM
@Wes - WHOA! No! I WANT ONE NOW
Lizbot (host) 7:44:06 PM
@Wes - That is my childhood! I grew up playing piano and Nintendo
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:44:10 PM
@Lizbot, he definitely will not. He does not have my contact information (being 'obscure' and all). I'll have to visit him at PREX.
Lizbot (host) 7:45:41 PM
@DTO - ah, I see. It's called "NO"
Dennis Linggg 7:45:59 PM
There was a Commodore 64 program by Roy Kawasaki that was some kind of synthesizer, I bet that could somehow be transformed into a keyboard somehow.
Dennis Linggg 7:47:13 PM
By Roy I meant “Ryo” pre-spellcheck.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:47:18 PM
Hi, nice show Lizbot! Tons of emulators out there these days for those old game sounds.
Wes Steenson 7:47:38 PM
Liz Bot + Dennis - I will look for it. Will post results on social media.
Commie Francis ☭ 7:47:41 PM
Bill: "is this.... Japanese ska?'
Lizbot (host) 7:48:00 PM
@Commie - haha!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:04 PM
Hi Rofflestomp!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:32 PM
@Dennis - ooooh, you made me think of the German electronic duo I sometimes pay on this show welle:erdball! They play commodore 64s and make very chip-tune-y stuff
Dennis Linggg 7:50:06 PM
@wes awesome! My instagram is full of circuit bending keyboard weirdos, I’m always on the lookout for more of that stuff, chasing the perfect “beep”.
Lizbot (host) 7:50:32 PM
@Rofflestomp - Thanks! I love the emulator I had on my original iMac over 20 years ago, but it had some kind of licensing issue
Lizbot (host) 7:52:02 PM
@Dennis - If you like circuit bending, did you ever get to those Data Garden events that happened at Bartram's Garden in West Philly about a decade ago? Those were really fun and had an installation of circuit-bent toy instruments everyone could walk up and play
ROFFLESTOMP 7:52:23 PM
Breadboards and wires Dennis, breadboards and wires...
Ossy Hyouka 7:52:32 PM
Mandrill!! I hear that reguarly on Sunday oldies night on Wide Wonderful World Of Butter, WDAS station!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:31 PM
@Ossy - haha, yeah WDAS! Mandrill is so good
Wes Steenson 7:54:30 PM
Mandrill was very popular at my high school.
Ossy Hyouka 7:54:43 PM
Speaking of that, rest in paradise to legendary singer, Michael Henderson, who collabed with many like Phyllis Hyman
Lizbot (host) 7:54:59 PM
@Wes - another band you listened to while heading out on the town on a Saturday night??
Dennis Linggg 7:55:37 PM
@liz I did make to one, it was very fun! I remember someone had a midi controller playing drum patterns on shells and leaves. And of course the wired up plants.
Lizbot (host) 7:55:49 PM
@Ossy - oh wow! just passed 2 days ago!
Ossy Hyouka 7:56:04 PM
Cameo, another many of bests! I love the magical song "Sparkle"
Dennis Linggg 7:56:39 PM
@roff ugh, I never have the time to get into it, but I’d love to. I’m a little intimidated.
Lizbot (host) 7:56:44 PM
@Dennis - Nice! Yeah, those were fun. My friend Jesse Kudler set up the installation in the pond
ROFFLESTOMP 7:57:01 PM
Lizbot, I'm sure my software has some 'licensing issues' even though it's on a Linux setup, which is generally cool for open source.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦀 7:57:25 PM
We enjoyed the show, @Lizbot! Stay cool!
Ossy Hyouka 7:57:29 PM
@Liz - Sadly, and story shared one of his songs with friends "In The Night" that played on WDAS sunday night, which had a tribute to William Hart of The Delfonics :(
Wes Steenson 7:57:32 PM
No, Ms Bot. When I was in high school I spent Saturday evenings listening to records and practicing my bass guitar.
ROFFLESTOMP 7:57:48 PM
Dennis, yeah time is a thing.
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦀 7:58:07 PM
You're playing music of the future ;-) "Sons Of (Thrill Jockey Records 2023)"
Wes Steenson 7:58:50 PM
Good evening, everyone! 👋
Ambrose Hughes 7:59:18 PM
Very fun Show Lizbot, thank you!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:22 PM
@Rob- haha, that's how it came up on the program I'm using and I didn't have time to fix it cuz I'm flying by the seat of my pants!
Dennis Linggg 7:59:32 PM
Have a good night everybody! Great tunes, Liz!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:32 PM
@Wes - Sounds like George
Lizbot (host) 7:59:47 PM

Lizbot (host) 8:01:30 PM
@Dennis - AND, since Tom brought up Alex Cox in the interview, did you guys ever consider covering "Walker"?
Lizbot (host) 8:01:39 PM
@Ossy - nice!
Rob from Maryland 🌻 🇺🇦 🦀 8:02:15 PM
@Lizbot, I see. No worries. I hope the seat of your pants get you to your destination ;-)
