No really I would try to isolate some of the little sliding 2 strings at once parts and the slaps and show them some "elements of Les" as it were. Give it the best shot
Andy Wing 9:13:12 AM
Love this track!

While preparing for this show, I thought back and could. not remember the last time anyone played "The Bar", so I put it in my set list. And then heard DJ Breezy play this very album side 2 days ago.
Brian D 9:16:11 AM
only on wprb! Perfect reason for fund drive support
DSM 9:16:38 AM
Blue Gene Tyranny on the piano I believe
Brian D 9:17:13 AM
Another wprb fave. Deirdre did a great Blue Gene tribute
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:17:14 AM
DSM you are correct
Guelo 9:17:28 AM
Are submissions for the spring Drive art open?

Guelo, that window closed a month ago.

I have Peter Greenway's 4 American Composers series about Ashley on VHS. Can't remember where I found it.

Christine 🦉 9:20:43 AM
@Guelo, hang on to that; another art drive will likely be announced at the end of summer.

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:21:10 AM
unoclay, that is a good description.
Andy Wing 9:22:20 AM
Ashley got a fair amount of airplay on the old Diaspar show. Also "The Park" was played on Stars End since it's so incredibly mellow.
unoclay 9:22:56 AM
whats the best place to start with this Ashley fellow. No, i didnt say Rick Astley.

@ unoclay: Private Parts; Perfect Lives (Private Parts) The Bar; Automatic Writing. You are hearing The Bar now, the others are a bit more ambient.

ISTR Ashley being featured on Echoes or maybe Totally Wired a long time ago.

This Laraaji piece was the track I planned on playing, and it made me think of this Robert Ashley track, hence "The Bar" was what I added as an afterthought.

@ ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) This extended monologue with music and muze-x and muse-iks IS A HOOT! Knowing absolutely nothing about him, he sounds like a quintessential and hugely talented California beatnik post-Zen poet/composer/performance artist ...
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:31:06 AM
@ Andy, yeah I recall hearing a lot of Ashley on 'XPN back in the late 70's, early 80s.
Guelo 9:31:33 AM
Generate bliss in the area around you, laugh laugh! seeing him live and laughing with the whole crowd in unison was a beautiful moment. Lodge room, LA
Brian D 9:31:43 AM
I think there is a tangled twisted thread from Ashley to Gary Wilson maybe. Maybe not.
Bud Burroughs 9:32:00 AM
Morning Dave. Hearing Robert Ashley took me right back to the "good" WXPN too!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:32:09 AM
@ Richard. Good morning, and yes, Ashley is a hoot. Very surreal sometimes.
Richard from Rocky Hill 9:32:17 AM

Saw Laraaji live at what was called Trenton State College in the late 80s. He was up and dancing with the audience.
Guelo 9:35:43 AM
We were told to bring blankets and pillows! My brother said it was the best sleep he got all month.
TAndy 9:35:58 AM
This is one hell of a time DJ!
Brian D 9:43:49 AM
I went to a few gong and percussion concerts with my wife when she was taking classes. Pillows; blankets, mats, comfy chairs (not the comfy chair! No!) were all encouraged. So relaxing. And at times thunderous and energizing!
Andy Wing 9:45:22 AM
Some serious Gong/Acid Mothers vibe here.

You certainly won't be hearing them at other stations. Anymore.😖
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:50:21 AM
@ Andy, because of their 'collective' nature, with constantly shifting subsets of musicians, each of their releases will have a different vibe. All space-rock jams, but different flavors.
Brian D 9:51:21 AM
same weekend as the cave concert, we stumbled upon a free show at Maverick venue (another great venue) in Woodstock. Steve Gorn and Indian musicians, beautiful music. Then a few weeks later i found out that Steve G, Tony Levin Jerry Marotta had realeased a performance from the mine years earlier . All connected. Prb and out there....

NIce to see that they have so many shows on archive.org!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:59:35 AM
But remember that Øresund Space Collective records every jam, and they aren't all top shelf material. You have to sift through a bunch.
