Due to time constraints, I am only airing the 'gat' in chautal and sultal.

Chautal, also knows as Ektal, is a 12-beat rhythm cycle. Sultal is a rarer, 10-beat cycle (2+2+2+2+2), as opposed to the more common 10-beat cycle Jhaptal (2+3+2+3).

Good morning, Andy.
Andy Wing 9:07:13 AM
Do you have that extended jam with Ashwin Batish and Zakir Hussain?
Sangeet Team (host) 9:08:11 AM
The "sitar power" guy? I do not.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:08:56 AM
I was not aware that they even met.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:11:14 AM
Not a bhajan, an aarti.
Andy Wing 9:11:47 AM
It was a live concert. Their fathers performed together since the 1940's.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:14:56 AM
I didn't know that. I thought S.D. Batish travelled in Bollywood circles.
the_dude 9:17:00 AM

This CD is another example of non-Indian music labels that release recordings of established musicians, but don't identify them on the outside. As if their target audience won't care.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:40:14 AM
Like, if it's not Bismillah Khan, it's just some random guy.
Andy Wing 9:52:19 AM
Delightful piece!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:54:01 AM
Jalathalangam is very sparkly. It's not commonly played, though.

Hi Dave - been enjoying the show from the beginning and got a few minutes be online. Have to leave soon, but will continuing listening
Sangeet Team (host) 10:22:06 AM
Thanks for dropping by, MC.
Sangeet Team (host) 10:25:19 AM
The surbahar is structured just like a sitar, but larger and with a deeper tone. It's ideal for the slow dhrupad style, and not the best for fast playing.
MusicChallenged 10:46:40 AM
Bye Dave - great to hear your show as always on a Saturday
Sangeet Team (host) 10:49:52 AM
Thanks, MC.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:31:33 AM
Pop singer Robert Palmer's song "The Silver Gun" was inspired by vocalist Dilshad Khan.

Sangeet Team (host) 11:55:35 AM
Scandalous!
Sangeet Team (host) 11:57:18 AM
