With Tim

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.- Dj Bryce

Hello
AndrewT 10:01:22 AM
Good morning!
Tim (host) 10:01:34 AM
Hey Andrew
AndrewT 10:02:38 AM
Might be a bit quiet after the next few minutes, I'm getting ready for a brisk morning walk 😎
Tim (host) 10:03:16 AM
Sounds like a great idea have a good walk
AndrewT 10:03:29 AM
Massive hero for starting off with 'Floyd by the way
Tim (host) 10:03:43 AM
oh cool glad ya like it
Brian D 10:04:47 AM
Nice. Supposedly one of the songs that jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour did some session work on in recordings for The Wall
Brian D 10:05:01 AM
One of My Turns that is.
Tim (host) 10:07:20 AM
@ brian - wasn't toni teneille the female voice in that
Brian D 10:10:47 AM
I believe Toni T sings on Show Must Go On and Waiting For Worms. Some actor named Trudy Young is that "are these all your guitars ? "voice supposedly
Tim (host) 10:11:01 AM
aha now i know
Brian D 10:11:24 AM
Nice to revisit this FLips lp. Some good ones on here.
Tim (host) 10:11:37 AM
yeah have you ever seen them live?
Brian D 10:12:03 AM
Saw them in double bill with Ween closing at Red Rocks on this lp's tour. GO! Team opened
Brian D 10:12:27 AM
It was very very. Just one of those right days/nights at the right place.
Tim (host) 10:13:08 AM
OH MAAAAN i would love to seen that - i always say my dream bill is polyphonic spree- flamin lips - go team - looks like you saw 2 of 3 howe as go team live?
Brian D 10:15:54 AM
I must admit we heard the Go Team from the parking lot chilling in the late afternoon / evening sun. Wanted to get in there to see them. Sirius satt radio was playing some of their stuff that year on their alt/college channel at the time. But... it was big ol socializing meet up fest in the lot.
Brian D 10:16:20 AM
wow 15-16 years ago that was...
Tim (host) 10:16:35 AM
yeah that can happen - i had tickets to go tem years ago but a snow storm came and intervened and we missed them
Tim (host) 10:16:50 AM
yeah time flies.....
Brian D 10:17:07 AM
Later on that summer the bill at Allentown Fairgrounds in PA was Ween, Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth. I missed that one..
Tim (host) 10:18:01 AM
yeah i saw them on teh soft bulliten tour at the troc which was my fave place to see a show and then mabe 3 years ago at the fillmorwe and they were spectacular - i was shocked at how good
Tim (host) 10:18:30 AM
i had tickets this past nov for them but covid interlined and i thought nope and sold the ticksts
Tim (host) 10:18:40 AM
intervined
Brian D 10:19:37 AM
My friends got to see them at the Bensalem PA casino 5 yrs ago or so & did the meet & greet package. Saw soundcheck etc. Got Wayne to record a video for their son that was too young to attend. Wayne said something like "c'mon mann... ain't you ever heard of a fake ID?
Tim (host) 10:20:27 AM
yeah its so crazy they were from oklahoma and i guess worked there way up - but ist like how could the flaming lips be from oklahoma
Tim (host) 10:20:57 AM
wayne is a character - one of my faves - a patron saint of the scratchy vinly show
Brian D 10:23:27 AM
YES! Love Wayne & gang. The docu and concert film on FLips are both great.
Tim (host) 10:23:40 AM
fearless freaks?
Brian D 10:24:19 AM
I forget which is which... Fearless Freaks is the docu I think. And the concert vid is live from the Zoo in Okie City
Brian D 10:25:04 AM
But ya great story there. The docu shows Wayne mowing the lawn in his white linen? suit in Okie city just chilling in his neighborhood...
Tim (host) 10:27:40 AM
ha - he would be a trippy neighbor
Brian D 10:28:48 AM
The mysterious Ronald Jones era . Wished they had more info on him. And I forgot that the guy from Mercury Rev actually was in the band for a while too. Gotta go back & watch that docu again
Tim (host) 10:29:44 AM
oh i didnt know there was a mercury rev connection but that makes sense
Brian D 10:31:51 AM
Ya it was MR frontman Michael Donahue that was in the FLips for a couple LPs and also did gtr tech before that. And Dave Fridmann also from Mercury Rev produced a bunch of FLips lps.
Tim (host) 10:32:12 AM
aint that a corker
Tim (host) 10:32:40 AM
i need to hear more mercury rev i ve only skimmed thier stuff
Brian D 10:32:57 AM
Love that MR Goddess on a Highway tune. Well done song there
Brian D 10:33:57 AM
But ya I am with you... I have to explore more of them. I only know bits and pieces and what I have read from FLips. And a book I read on the Woodstock/Central NY "scene" over the years. MR is from that area
Tim (host) 10:35:01 AM
yeah i need to become part of a scene! - i pretty much in the work nine hours at a desk "scene"
jimbeaux 10:35:35 AM
Hey peeps! Love mercury rev. Check out Boces and Yrself is Steam, also Harmony Rockets side project. BTW...bourbon princess song HEAVY.
Tim (host) 10:36:33 AM
yeah jim beaux bourbon princess is heavy they kinda sound like morphine-- but yeah that guy sings like he really is in the ambulance on the edge
jimbeaux 10:41:02 AM
Gal! https://moniqueortiz.bandcamp.com/album/stopline-by-bourbon-princess-feat-monique-ortiz
Brian D 10:41:11 AM
"In the ambulance on the edge" .... that reminds me of Joe Frank's " In The Middle Of Nowhere" show (shows.. 3 parts). Great crazy radio play starting with an ambulance driver that crashes into another car, picks that guy up to take him to medical attn in the middle of nowhere... their dialog is great. Then there are other crazy characters at this bar out there in nowhere... good listen. Joe Frank has a year's worth of good listens
Tim (host) 10:43:19 AM
@ brian where can i find joe frank?
Andy Wing 10:45:01 AM
Joe Frank was brilliant! WXPN played the entire series in the late 80's. It's probably out there on the web somewhere.
Tim (host) 10:45:57 AM
huh he totally slipped under my radar
Andy Wing 10:45:57 AM
The Ray character was the best part of "In The Middle Of Nowhere"
Andy Wing 10:46:25 AM
Ruby the Galactic Gumshoe was another great series.
Tim (host) 10:46:55 AM
i was around in the late eighties how the hell did i miss this guy
jimbeaux 10:47:23 AM
Looks like very direct Morphine connection! Common studio/players.
jimbeaux 10:47:29 AM

Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 11:06:31 AM
Sorry for the wait! Here's your sparkling freakadelic electric morning lemonade. Are you ready to order or would you like a few minutes?
Andy Wing 11:06:45 AM

Tim (host) 11:09:56 AM
man my typing is atrocious - 5 points off for typing
Brian D 11:10:06 AM
Tim, Joe Frank shows are for sale or to listen (as a member) on his site ( or his family's site I guess. Joe RIP.) : https://www.joefrank.com/listen/ And I just discovered some are on Soundcloud too : https://soundcloud.com/thejoefrank
Tim (host) 11:10:43 AM
oh cooll something to look forward too- dont know how this slipped by me
Tim (host) 11:10:49 AM
thanks for the assist
Andy Wing 11:11:16 AM
RJD2 mashup?
Tim (host) 11:11:56 AM
nope Gershon Kingsley - i think he was an early moog guy
Brian D 11:12:40 AM
Yes Andy! In the Middle of Nowhere is a fave. The ambulance driver trying get the injured guy to "buy something" in order to get change $ to use the pay phone in the ambulance " I mean.. really! I don't just drive around in an ambulance making change for people. You have to make a purchase. I have band-aids, ze Neosenephrine.... " I could go on and on down the Joe Frank rabbit hole for years....
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:14:28 AM
"Engrams" by Three Trapped Tigers is wonderful. I'd never heard it, so thanks for the spin!
Brian D 11:14:45 AM
Joe Frank's episode "Lies" was ripped off for the movie After Hours with Griffin Dunne, Rossana Arquette, Cheech & Chong (cameo)... Interesting story there. https://andrewhearst.com/blog/2008/05/the-scandalous-origins-of-martin-scorseses-after-hours
Andy Wing 11:15:22 AM
Kingsley is the "Popcorn" guy.
Brian D 11:15:42 AM
And Joe did a later episode on the whole story. His agent dealing with the screenwriter who stole the story etc.
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 11:16:01 AM
@Tim All sounds good except unfortunately we're out of the future-seeing OJ today, I'm sorry. We do have present-seeing OJ, would you like that instead?
Andy Wing 11:16:30 AM
I first saw RJD2 on MTV's Fashionably Loud in the 90's. Remember that show? The music was far more memorable than the clothes, lol.
Brian D 11:16:53 AM
"POPCORN" ! That's where I have heard the name Gershon Kingsley. That 45 record of Popcorn reminds me of indoor recess at school in the 70s on rainy days. A most requested record by us kids.
Tim (host) 11:17:34 AM
@ emeril sure that's great
Tim (host) 11:18:16 AM
what the hell happened to mtv were they bought out or people jsut stopped wathing music videos ?
Tim (host) 11:20:54 AM
@ brian- ahh the 70's rainy day indoor reess- which meant - the boys vs the girls for record player- boys kiss alive - girls saturday night fever-
Tim (host) 11:21:55 AM
oh and the big hit of sixth grade saturday night by the bay city rollers which was a HUGE hit in sith grade- which i hear and am reminded about by commie Francis on satureay nights
Andy Wing 11:21:59 AM
Here's the RJD2 video, vintage, but still pretty crazy:
Andy Wing 11:22:03 AM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abeUTN9OB8I
Andy Wing 11:23:39 AM
We never did rainy day record player duels, we played Mille Bournes. Drove the principal nuts as he did not approve of the "corrupting" influence of card games, lol.
Tim (host) 11:24:46 AM

Tim (host) 11:28:12 AM
@mike cool glad ya like it
Tim (host) 11:28:22 AM
thanks dude
Christine 🦉 11:29:16 AM
Dave the Obscure may have been lurking in the back shadows of the chatroom, ya never know.
Tim (host) 11:30:40 AM
is ozric tentacles - the "bat signal" of dave the obsucre?
Christine 🦉 11:31:41 AM
I think it certainly is one of them. Fun show, @Tim!
Tim (host) 11:31:57 AM
oh thanks
the_dude 11:32:14 AM
I wouldn't be surprised! And not exactly but they regularly make an appearance on his shows. You need you one of them there 3 hour shows too!
Brian D 11:33:56 AM
AWww yes... Stones Citadel. rawnch
Christine 🦉 11:34:25 AM
Those 3-hour time slots must be pretty luxurious. I like how Commie Francis and Jerry Gordon devote the final hour to a different theme. Other 3-hour DJs may do the same, but they're just off the top of my head.
Andy Wing 11:35:03 AM
Rosasolis' final hour is almost a show unto itself!
Tim (host) 11:35:49 AM
@ brian, i always thought that was a great psychedelic album - much maligned -
Christine 🦉 11:40:19 AM
This mood 💯
Tim (host) 11:41:31 AM
@ Christine sunday mornings are best- maybe fri nights as well
Brian D 11:42:44 AM
Same Tim. Satanic Magesties is one of my fave Stones lps. All the way through.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:46:55 AM
Oh my! The Rolling Stones' album Their Satanic Majesties Request is dissed as a tepid attempt to match the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's, but it contains real gems: Notably "Citadel," with dystopian futurism like Geo. Orwell's novel "1984" but seductively shiny ("Screaming people fly so fast/In their shiny metal cars/Through the woods of steel and glass." Indeed, "1984" gets a nod with the line "You can see the Miniluv ..." (the 'Ministry of Love" where dissidents are tortured and re-programmed.)
Tim (host) 11:48:37 AM
@ Richard- yeah i think competeing with sgt pepper didi it in - and the long instrumentals were a little weak - but deffinatley a top 10 psychdelic album
Tim (host) 11:49:02 AM
plus the inside gatefold was groovy
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:56:08 AM
@ Tim (host) and Brian D Yes, I agree! Their Satanic Majesties Request also contains true classics like "2000 Light Years from Home,"She's a Rainbow" and a wonderful (and unjustly rare) original by charter bassist Bill Wyman, "In Another Land." According to his memoir "Stone Alone," Wyman was able to record the track because Jagger & Richards (who had long since taken over the band's de facto leadership from founder Brian Jones) were absent at court hearings about pot busts. Ha!
Christine 🦉 11:57:47 AM
Thanks for a cool playlist this morning, @Tim. Sorry to have joined so late. Take care, everybody!
Tim (host) 11:57:49 AM
@ Richard - ha that's funny he got one in
Tim (host) 11:58:14 AM

Still there?
Christine 🦉 12:11:31 PM
Hmmm.
Richard from Rocky Hill 12:12:23 PM
@ Tim (host) Yes, Wyman has written several great books about his career. His first, "Stone Alone: The Story of a Rock 'n Roll Band" (1990, co-written with Ray Coleman) is highly recommended. Besides sharing priceless stories about the Stones, Wyman establishes that Brian Jones, not Jagger or Richards, founded & named the band, a fact bolstered in Paul Trynka's excellent 2014 bio "Brian Jones: The Making of the Rolling Stones." Happy readings!
